Barbara A. (Mask) Ayres
Our beloved mother Barbara Ann (Mask) Ayres, 81, passed peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015 in Olympia, Wash., surrounded by her children. She was born March 16, 1934, in Roswell, N.M. to James Leland Mask and Nell Hewitt. In 1954 she married
Ted Ayres, moved to Hoquiam, Wash. and together they raised three children, Rebecca Lorenzo, Cheryl Ayres and Jim Ayres. She dedicated herself to raising her family and worked many years in the Hoquiam school system before retiring and moving to Olympia with her husband to be closer to their kids. An adventurous spirit, she loved to travel with family and friends and spend time boating on the Hood Canal.
A unique soul and long known for her positive outlook on life, Barbara enjoyed singing with her choir group at local retirement and Alzheimer’s homes. She was an active and dedicated member of the Aberdeen Pioneer Association and The Red Hat Society. Barbara will be remembered often and dearly missed.
She was predeceased by her husband. Beside her daughters and son, survivors include four grandsons, one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral services with reception to follow at Mills & Mills Funeral Home Tumwater, Wash. on Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 1 p.m. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Barbara’s life. Remembrances can be made to Providence Hospice (360) 493-7981.
Ruby Ester
A memorial service for Ruby L. Ester of Raymond, who died Nov. 6, in Raymond, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Raymond Baptist Church.

Lawrence A. Saunders
OLYMPIA — Lawrence Allen Saunders, a resident of Hoquiam, died Friday, Nov. 4, 2016, at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. He was 53.
He had worked as an electrician at Weyerhaeuser, Sierra Pacific and most recently Ocean Spray.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Coleman Mortuary Chapel in Hoquiam.
Robert J. Babineau Jr.
Robert John Babineau Jr., an Aberdeen resident and former crewman for the City of Aberdeen, died Friday, Nov. 11, 2016, in Aberdeen. He was 64.
A memorial Mass is being planned for December at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and details will follow in The Daily World.
Arrangements are by Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen.
Myra M. Bridgewater
SOUTH BEND — Longtime Raymond resident Myra Margaret Bridgewater died Monday, Nov. 14, at the Willapa Harbor Hospital in South Bend. She was 88.
At her request, no services will be held.
Donations are suggested to the American Heart Association Donations Processing Center, 1710 Gilbreth Road, Burlingame, CA 94010-1795.

Diane M. Anderson
Diane Marie Anderson, age 72, went to be with the Lord after a struggle with Alzheimer’s disease on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015 in Yelm, Wash. Diane was born on Jan. 30, 1943, in Oakland, Calif. to Prentice and Eileen Weber.
In August, 1962, Diane married
John David Jerome. They had four children together: Jim Jerome, Roy Jerome, Tracy Dorr and Joann Forsythe. The marriage ended in 1977. In June, 1978, Diane married
Larry Anderson and together they raised Larry’s children from a previous marriage, Lenny Anderson and Tina Mitchell.
Diane worked as a homemaker and later in the banking industry. Diane was particularly known for being a loving wife and amazing mother full of humor, wise words, and quick comebacks. She made cinnamon rolls Christmas morning, constantly worried if her kids and grandkids were happy and safe, and loved her family completely. Diane gave her love unconditionally, including during her children’s tumultuous teenage years.
Diane is survived by her husband, Larry, six children, fourteen grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held privately with family later in the spring of 2016. Memorial donations may be made in Diane’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
Ronald W. Caufman
Ron passed away in Seattle on Dec. 15, 2015 at the age of 81. He was born on Oct. 17, 1934 in Bellingham, Wash. to Walter N. and Caroline S. Caufman.
Ron was raised in Bellingham and received a Bachelor’s degree from WWU. After a short stint as an art teacher, he began a long career in the banking industry. He started as a teller and retired as a branch manager and regional Vice President. Much of his career he worked as a commercial loan officer. He started at National Bank of Commerce and through consolidation in the banking industry eventually retired from Bank of America. After his retirement, he also worked for the Bank of the Pacific in Aberdeen on a part time basis for several years.
Ron and his wife Marita moved around the state with his banking career spending significant periods of time in Skagit Valley, Shoreline, and Aberdeen.
Ron and Marita were true Anglophiles having traveled to the United Kingdom for several weeks every summer for about thirty years. They hosted many friends and family on these trips which featured lots of sightseeing, epicurean delights, scotch and wine tastings, and golfing. Attending the British Open was always a highlight. Ron was close to a scratch golfer in his prime and made numerous holes in one. In addition to his love of the game he was also a talented artist, avid reader and builder of models of any and all sorts.
Ron was predeceased by his wife Marita and is survived by his brother John and sister-in-law Sue Caufman of Clifton Park, N.Y., his daughter Catherine and son-in-law Michael Henderson of Shoreline, and his son Scott Caufman of Lakewood. Ron had three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions can be made to Grays Harbor Community Foundation in Ron’s name.
The family would like to thank the Foss Home in Seattle for the loving and compassionate care he received the last several weeks.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Ann C. Jelovich
Ann (Hoder) Jelovich, 97 years of age, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015, in Bellevue, Wash. She was born on Jan. 8, 1918, to Leo and Augusta Ladwig Hoder. She had a sister, Alice Espedal, and a brother, Leo Hoder. Ann was a member of the last sixth grade class to attend Franklin Grade School before it closed. She graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1936, then attended Grays Harbor Business College. She was employed by Anderson & Middleton as a secretary; then was the office manager for Adamore and Brown-Elmore shoe companies for six years.
She married
Sam Jelovich on Oct. 21, 1944. He preceded her in death in July of 2000. She is survived by her daughter, Sandy (Paul) Skoog, and her son, Sam (Susan) Jelovich.
She has seven grandchildren: Jason (Abbie) Skoog, Jon (Julie) Skoog, Zachary (Jodi) Jelovich, Nathan (Hannah) Jelovich, Jacob (Keirstin) Jelovich, Isaac (Joslynn) Jelovich, and Micah Jelovich. She has eight great-grandchildren: Josephine, Ava, Violet and Jordan Skoog; Hunter, Luke, Daniel and Shepherd Jelovich.
Ann served as a volunteer on PTA committees, Red Cross Blood Bank, FISH programs, and the Cancer Drive. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. Ann was a member of St. Mary’s Church where she was a member of Altar Society, Prayer Chain, and treasurer of St. Margaret’s Guild for many years.
She enjoyed her family, church, traveling, homemaking, shopping, and gardening.
Visitation for friends and family will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 21 in the chapel at Fern Hill Funeral Home.
A Rosary will be recited at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Aberdeen. A funeral Mass will follow at 1 p.m. in the church. Interment will take place in Fern Hill cemetery in Aberdeen.
The family suggests memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 306 E. 3rd St., Aberdeen, WA 98520.

Todd C. Robinson
Todd Christian Robinson passed away on Dec. 4, 2015, at Harbor View Medical Center. He was 53 years old. Todd was born on Jan. 30, 1962. He was the son of John C. and Eleanor M. Robinson. Todd was raised in Aberdeen and attended McDermoth Elementary, Hopkins Junior High and Weatherwax High School where he graduated with the class of 1980. He also attended GHC.
He began his painting career working for several individuals and companies in the Harbor area. In 1992, he incorporated Todd Robinson Painting, which specializes in Commercial and Industrial Painting. He built a very successful business with hard work and dedication. He was well known and respecting in the commercial building industry. His company has become and will remain his Legacy.
He was also involved at time in other business ventures. At one time he owned Snow Creek Resort in Neah Bay, Wash. He enjoyed time spent there, and entertained many friends and Associates at the Resort. He enjoyed watching numerous sports and was an avid Seattle Seahawks fans. He loved traveling, sunshine, boating, blackjack, laughter and gatherings with family and friends. His home in Palm Springs was his favorite place to visit.
Todd had a big, generous heart and helped many people throughout his life. He is survived by his brothers Jayce, Joel and wife Debbie, nephews, Chace, Robert, and Drew, nieces, Ambria and Charlynn and three great-nephews, and other family members, his extended Todd Robinson Painting family which includes Robert Robinson, Nicolas Seculich, Dawn Gafford, Ken Cookston, Angela Taggart, Mark Schlatter and numerous past and present painters. He is also survived by his numerous, lifelong friends.
The family requests that you donate to a charity of your choice in his memory. There will be a Celebration of Life held on Friday, Dec. 18 at the Red Lion Hotel Grand Ball Room in Olympia, Wash., beginning at 4 p.m.
Kenneth W. Millen
Lifelong resident, Kenneth W. Millen passed away at his home on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015. Kenneth was born in Seattle on March 17, 1930 to Earlam and Lou (Jacobson) Millen.
He was a longtime member of the Aberdeen Elks and graduated from Weatherwax High School in June 1948 and also attended Grays Harbor College. He loved singing Karaoke and going to casinos.
A brother Earl preceded him in death.
At Ken’s request, there will be no services.
Dale A. Owen
Dale Albert Owen, 56, beloved father, brother and son, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2015 in Shelton, Wash. He attended Montesano High School and worked in various jobs in his community, most recently as a correctional officer in Shelton for the past 15 years. He enjoyed horseback riding, clamming, fishing trips to Mexico, cooking and telling stories.
Dale is survived by his two daughters, Lyndsey Owen-Klusman (Leife Klusman) of Raymond and Kory Owen (Ryan Mackey) of Lacey his siblings, Diane Van Foeken of Elma, Richard Owen of Montesano, Tom Owen of Alaska, Linda Olson of Olympia, his mother, Mabel Owen of Montesano and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert “Bud” Owen of Montesano and his sister, Christine Rudy of Elma.

Jerry W. Benning
Jerry Wayne Benning was born on Dec. 16, 1944 to George and Beatrice Benning in Sturgis, S.D. After finishing high school and college, he enlisted in the Navy. Upon his return to South Dakota he married
Candy Plumb on Jan. 8, 1966. He moved with his family to the Long Beach Peninsula in 1967. He was employed at SIDS Market as a butcher until he joined the Long Beach Police Department. He started working with the Pacific County Sheriff’s Department soon after. Jerry was the Resident Deputy in Naselle in the early 70’s and brought his family to Raymond in 1974. He was employed with the Pacific County Sheriff’s Department for most of his law enforcement years. He served the last 12 years of his 31 year tenure as the Pacific County Sheriff. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents. A foster son, Clayton Moravec and his first wife of 45 years, Candy. Survived by his brother, James (Beth) of Spearfish, S.D.
Jerry married
Helen R. Shepperson in Piedmont, S.D. on June 30, 2012. She survives at the family home in Ilwaco. Jerry and Helen went to high school together in Sturgis and re kindled a loving relationship after 52 years apart. Reuniting a large family in which they had started years before with the birth of their daughter Debbie in 1960.
Jerry was a very proud man. His pride was very apparent when he spoke of his children. Along with daughter Debbie (Bob) of Black Hawk S.D., and Kim Gehrke, Rapid City, he is survived by daughters, Jeanne of Portland, Sandy (Mike) of Menlo, Sherry (Mark) of Vancouver. His grandchildren were a constant source of joy to him. Jordan was a very large part of his life and lived with him and Grandma Candy for all of her school years. He loved them all equally and was always bragging about them all. He will forever be loved and remembered by each and every one of the grandchildren. Jerry has 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Jerry’s heart was full! He was a very special “fill in father” to so many young people who spent many hours under his loving care. He loved you all.
Jerry was a huge part of the community and enjoyed being active in many local clubs and groups. He was very active in the Masonic Lodge and Pacific County Democrats. He enjoyed participating in events with the Beach Barons and the Lower Columbia Classics Car Club. Fishing and hunting were two sports he did to relax, but time spent playing cards, dancing and laughing with family and friends filled his heart!
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Dec. 19 at 1 p.m. at the Ocean Beach Presbyterian Church, 500 N Place, Seaview, Wash. Internment will be at The Black Hills National cemetery in Sturgis, S.D.
John W. Wilkinson Sr.
OLYMPIA — John William Wilkinson Sr., a former longtime Harborite, died Monday, Dec. 7, 2015, at Providence Saint Peter Hospital in Olympia. He was 87.

Todd Robinson
SEATTLE — Former Aberdeen resident Todd C. Robinson of Summit Lake, died in Seattle, Friday, Dec. 4, 2015. He was 53 and was a painting contractor in Olympia.
A celebration of his life will be at 4 p.m. Friday at the Red Lion Hotel in Olympia.
Private inurnment took place in the Fern Hill cemetery Mausoleum in Aberdeen.
Arrangements were by the Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen.
Mary K. Wilson
Mary Kathryn Wilson of Aberdeen died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015, at Grays Harbor Health and Rehabilitation Center in Aberdeen. She was 98.
Cremation arrangements are by the Harrison Family Mortuary of Aberdeen.
Dorothy M. Austin
Dorothy Maxine Austin of Central Park died Friday, Dec. 11, 2015, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen. She was 90.
At her request there will be no formal service.

Katherine Ann (Harper) Thompson
Sept. 22, 1942 - Dec. 10, 2015
Katherine Ann (Harper) Thompson passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Dec. 10, 2015 at the age of 73. She was born Sept. 22, 1942 in Hoquiam, Wash. where she graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1960. Ann was married
to Dennis Thompson also of Hoquiam in 1962-1976. They ultimately settled in Salem, Ore. in 1968 where they bought their home and Ann resided there until her death.
Ann’s working career began immediately after high school becoming Executive Administrative Assistant to the Principal of Hoquiam High and continued on to be Executive Assistant to the Oregon State Employees Director, Oregon State Legislature, Willamette Health Care Director, Office of Academic Affairs Director, Speaker of the Oregon House of Representatives and Oregon Independent Telephone Association. Ann returned to school and received her Bachelor’s Degree in 1993 from Western Oregon University graduating Magna Cum Laude. She continued as a case manager at Willamette Valley Senior Services until she retired in 2007. Ann also enjoyed volunteering at Salem Memorial Hospital and with Hospice.
Ann enjoyed tending to her yard, planting flowers each spring, working in her memory garden, loved collecting knick knacks, adored all animals and traveling with her son Ron and daughter-in-law Pam. Ann was very proud of her grandchildren and loved spending time with them, buying them gifts and watching them all play sports highlighted by grandson Cameron playing college football. Ann had a large circle of friends and enjoyed meeting them for lunch, shopping or just chit chatting. Her favorite time of day was getting her morning coffee at Java Crew with her dog Zeppy. In her younger years Ann even road dirt bikes on occasion.
Ann was preceded in death by her older brother who died at birth, her father Fred when she was two years old, parents Elo and Katherine Salo and grandson Nicholas. She is survived by son Ron and Pam Thompson of El Dorado Hills, Calif., son Jeff Thompson and Kris Whetstone of Albany, Ore., three grandchildren, Cameron of Portland, Ore., Sam and Tessa of Lebanon, Ore., unofficial adoptive grandma of her good friend Sherry’s three grandkids of Ohio, her beloved dog Zeppy and many close friends, ex-coworkers and neighbors who supported her though her illness.
A celebration of Ann’s life will be held Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016 at West Salem Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Ann would like contributions made to any local non-kill animal shelter of your choice. Assisting the family is Virgil T Golden Funeral Service.
Walter George Laine
Walter George Laine, of Grayland passed away from complications of Esophageal Cancer the morning of Dec. 9, 2015. He was with his sons Wesley and Stacey at his home. He is survived by his siblings, Kenneth Schick of Seattle, Larry Laine of Goodyear, Ariz. and Susan Jackson of Sacramento, Calif. He was preceded in death by a sister Marleen Trail of Aurora, Colo. He raised his sons Stacey Laine of Seattle, Wash. and Wes Laine of Salem, Ore., with his late wife Toula Laine of Chalcis, Greece. He is also survived by his two grandchildren Maxwell Laine and Madison Laine of Salem, Ore. He has several nephews in Colorado, Arizona and California.
George graduated from Ocosta High in Westport, then attended Grays Harbor Community College and later joined the U.S. Air Force where he married
Toula Friggis in Chalcis Greece. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force and returned to Washington. George learned several skills and then became a Journeyman painter closing out his 30 year career painting for the Westin Hotel in Seattle. Some famous people who observed his craft include former Washington Gov. Dan Evans, billionaire Charles Simonyi to presidents Reagan, Bush and Clinton.
George was a family man. His pride came by showing his kids different sports, hunting, fishing and scholastics. Raising animals and finally closing out his life with his dad’s cranberry bog. In his own way he showed how important family is and always showed selfless acts of kindness when it mattered most. He was 74 years old.
A Celebration of life will take place at the Grayland Lutheran Church, 2424 WA-105, Grayland, WA 98547, Saturday, Dec. 19, at 1 p.m.
