Judy E. Cook (Mink)

Mrs. Judy Elenora Cook (Mink) died peacefully at home on Nov. 6, 2015, in Aberdeen, Wash., at the age of 74. Judy was born on Nov. 11, 1940, in Mountain City, Tenn., to Jason and Nina Mink. She was the youngest of eleven children, and also blessed with an additional fourteen step-brothers and sisters. Judy was a woman of faith who cherished church and participated in church activities frequently. Judy was also blessed with a generous heart toward everyone she met. She was always thinking of others and putting everyone’s needs before her own. As a grandmother, she took pride in all of her grandchildren, caring for each of them as they were growing. She treasured time with family, especially on her favorite holiday, Christmas.

Judy is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Thomas Cook of Aberdeen, Wash., her son; Robert (Anna) Brooks of Onalaska, daughters; Deanna (Dale) Beard of Vader, and Trina (Scott) Devlin of Olympia, and twin brother; Jerry Mink of Mountain City, Tenn., as well as grandchildren; Ericka (Ryan) Arnold, Emalee Beard, Michael Beard, Ashlee Devlin, Kennan Devlin and Cielo Devlin and two great-grandchildren; Lucas and Rielyn Arnold. She will be remembered by her extended family and numerous friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents Jason and Nina Mink and nine brothers and sisters.

A Celebration of life is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 1 p.m. at Harbor City Church, 1700 Cherry St., Aberdeen, Wash., with a pot luck reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Judy Cook’s life.

Vernon R. Dawson

Vernon Ray Dawson, 64, lifetime Aberdeen resident and former machinist for Olympic Arms in Nisqually, died Oct. 31, 2015 at his home in Aberdeen.

Vern was born on May 6, 1951 in Aberdeen to Drury and Wanda (Watkins) Dawson. He graduated from Weatherwax High School and worked for Ocean Spray in Westport. He then worked as a machinist for Olympic Arms for fifteen years.

He loved the outdoors, fishing, metal detecting and really enjoyed Christmas.

He is survived by brothers: Harry Dawson of Shelton and David Dawson; a sister Kathy Dawson of Aberdeen and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a graveside service for Vern on Friday, Nov. 13, 2015 at 1 p.m. in Shoestring cemetery, Onalaska, Wash.

Arrangements are entrusted to Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen, Wash.

Virginia Geraldine “Ginger” Kelley Bryant

Virginia Geraldine “Ginger” Kelley Bryant, age 90, was born on Jan. 28, 1925, in Shawnee, Okla., to Clarence Kenneth and Opal Ophelia (Adams) Kelley. Her father died when she was 12 and her uncle, Norman and Poppy (Jacob Adams) raised her with her mom, Opal.

She met her husband at Silver Dollar Club in Oklahoma, while he was in the Navy, and married him, three months later, on Sept. 10, 1943, and they celebrated 70 years of marriage prior to him dying on Sept. 27, 2013.

The couple had lived in Cottage Grove, Ore., Pacific Beach, Aloha and Aberdeen.

Ginger had been a waitress for many years, last working in Pacific Beach, the Lighthouse Café and J & M Diner.

She loved being with family, they were her life, watching grandkids and great-grandkids sports events. She was such an avid supporter that she was once asked to leave a wresting match.

She is survived by a son, Larry (Connie) Bryant of Montesano, where she last resided; a son, Gary (Kim) Bryant of Cosmopolis; eight grandkids; fourteen great-grandkids, three great-great-grandkids, two sisters, Lillie Klein and Goldie Micciche of Montesano; a brother-in-law, Dale Bryant of Aloha and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Larry, an infant daughter, Linda Ann, a brother, Roy Kelly and a grandson, Kenny “K-Boy” Bryant.

The family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society; ATTN: Relay For Life, 1313 Broadway, Suite 100, Tacoma, WA 98402.

At her request there will be no formal funeral service.

Cremation arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary, 422 - 5th Street in Hoquiam.

On Nov. 16, 2015, she left us with her granddaughter by her side.

Zona was born Jan. 17, 1931, at Balch, Wash., to A.C. and Gertrude Miller. Zona lived all of her life in Oakville.

On Jan. 2, 1947, she married Robert “Bobby” Johnson. Bobby passed Feb. 14, 1982. Together they had four children: Robert “Ron” Johnson of Oakville, Keeta Zepp of Elma, Carl “Doug” Johnson of Aberdeen, and Sherri (Jim) Lofton of Nogales, Ariz. Zona had 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Zona spent many years as a waitress. She belonged to the Oakville Eastern Star. She also belonged to a league of bowlers. She loved spending time and bowling with the girls. She also enjoyed going to bingo and visiting with friends at Jag’s Restaurant. Her two sidekicks (her dogs) Rudy and Missy were great company and wonderful companions to her.

Services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 1:30 p.m. at Oakville Methodist Church with a potluck following.

Graveside will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Oakville Fire Department.

Services are under the care of Sticklin Funeral Chapel, Centralia.

Madeleine M. Miller

SHELTON — Madeleine Marie Miller, former Raymond resident, died Tuesday, Oct., 25, 2016 at the Alpine Care Center in Shelton. She was 87.

She worked at the cannery in South Bend ans was a nurse’s aide for Dr. R.A. Bussabarger at his Riverview Clinic.

Cremation arrangements are in care of Stollers Mortuary in Raymond.

Frank Larner

A celebration of life for longtime Harborite Frank H. Larner, who died Sept. 18 in Lacey, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, at the Grays Harbor College Schermer Building, Rm. 4134.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Grays Harbor College Foundation, The Frank Larner Founders Scholarship, 1620 Edward P. Smith, Drive, Aberdeen 98520.

Arrangements were by Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home, Aberdeen.

Melissa R. Taylor

A celebration of life for Elma resident Melissa Rose Taylor, who died Oct. 9, in Olympia, will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the McCleary Community Center.

The family suggests memorials be made to Kitten Rescue, 420 SR 3, Shelton, WA 98584.

Arrangements are by Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home, Aberdeen.

James H. Richardson

James Harold Richardson died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, at his home in Aberdeen. He was 65.

An inurnment will be held at a later date in Everett.

Arrangements are by Harrison Family Mortuary of Aberdeen.

Jeffrey A. Absalom

Jeffrey Arthur Absalom of Ocean Shores died Sunday, Oct. 30, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen. He was 57.

Judy Mathison

Judy Mathison, 70, of Montesano, passed away Nov. 16, 2015, at her daughter’s home after a year-long struggle with cancer. Judy was born Dec. 30, 1944, in Hibbing, Minn. She grew up on the family farm in Northern Minnesota. Judy married Vern Mathison and they moved to Washington in 1967. Judy was a devoted wife and mother, always there for her family and friends. One of her greatest joys was the birth of her grandchildren; participating in their lives and watching them grow to adults.

Judy had unending energy, taking care of her home, being the bookkeeper for her husband’s business, raising her twin children, Dale and Gail. Judy loved the outdoors, gardening - especially her roses, fishing and was an accomplished elk hunter.

Judy is survived by a son from a previous marriage, Sheldon Bixby of Minnesota, husband Vern Mathison, a daughter Gail (Kevin) Bussard and grandchildren Lindsey and Jordan Bussard, foster brother Robert Pirami, Jerry Danyluk, Michael Danyluk, Julieann (Ronald) Hanson and Lindie (Terrence) Newman, numerous nieces and nephews. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Julia Danyluk, and her son Dale. Judy will always be sadly missed by those who loved her. It was a blessing to have her in our lives.

A funeral service will be held at 12 o’clock on Saturday, Nov. 21 at Harbor City Church in Aberdeen. Private interment will take place at Wynooche cemetery in Montesano.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Harrison Family Mortuary of Aberdeen.

William Shumway

OLYMPIA — Elma resident William L. Shumway died Friday, Nov. 13, 2015 at Puget Sound Healthcare Center in Olympia. He was 55.

Arrangements are by Funeral Alternatives of Washington in Tumwater.

Justin C. Yakovich

Justin Case Yakovich, 33, passed away on Nov. 7, 2015. He was born in Olympia, Wash., to his loving parents George and Connie Yakovich. He was the baby brother to George Jr. Yakovich, Craig Yakovich and Jonathon Jasper. His first loves were his five nieces and one nephew. Later, he shared that love with his new wife Samantha Yakovich and their 7-month-old daughter Adia Sue. While Justin grew up in Central Park, Wash., and resided in San Diego for the past year — he always called Newport Beach, Calif., his home.

Justin was notorious for being everyone’s best friend and always having a smile on his face. He had a huge heart and used it to help as many people as he could, whether he knew them or not. Justin also enjoyed fishing, hunting, entertaining his new baby girl and surrounding himself with his close group of friends who he referred to as his brothers. Justin was in the lineman apprenticeship and loved what he did. In large part to the apprenticeship, Justin was able to visit and live in many areas over the West Coast and eventually include Samantha in his travels.

Justin will be greatly missed by his wife, daughter, parents, brothers, grandmother Kathryn Yakovich, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephew and friends. Although his death was unexpected, he would not want anyone shedding any more tears for him, so please join us in a Celebration of his life on Saturday, Nov. 21, at Grays Harbor Foursquare Church for the service at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow at Cosmopolis Lions Club.

Evelyn J. Dotson

Evelyn Josephine Dotson, 93, passed into the loving arms of her husband Orville and son Ronald on Nov. 16, 2015.

Evelyn was born in Tacoma, Wash., Nov. 5, 1922. Shortly thereafter she was adopted by Charles and Bessie (Ferguson) Peterson. Evelyn resided in the Elma/McCleary area most of her life. She was married to Orville Dotson for 47 years before the angels called him home. Together they raised seven children, three adopted. Ronald (Jeannette) who preceded her in death; Donald (Eileen); Sharon Gibbs (Terry); Sherian Tuntland; Dennis (Sher) and Suzanne Taylor; Elvin Dotson.

Together Orville and Evelyn owned and operated Dotson Auto Service. She enjoyed “running parts” for clients and meeting new people. In her spare time she enjoyed crocheting, when her fingers would cooperate. Evelyn would crochet pot holders and dishtowels. In the past she made many baby blankets, tablecloths and bedspreads for her children and grandchildren. Evelyn’s greatest joy was her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Besides her own children, Evelyn babysat for many of the children in the Elma/McCleary area.

Evelyn later married Harvey Madsen and lived in the Belfair area where they enjoyed fishing and country music before returning to Elma. Harvey preceded her in death.

A celebration of Evelyn’s life is being held Saturday, Dec. 12, in the McCleary Community Center at 1 p.m. Please come join us and bring your stories. Evelyn was a wonderful lady that touched many lives in her 93 years. Please contact Sher or Dennis Dotson (360) 943-5554 or sherdotson@aol.com.

Evelyn J. Dotson

NOTICE — Due to unforeseen circumstances (an illness in the family) the “Celebration of Life” for Evelyn Dotson that was to be held at the McCleary Community Center on Dec. 12, 2015, has been postponed. A later date will be announced, so keep your stories at hand.

Daniel J. Carey Sr.

Daniel John Carey Sr., 57 years of age and a longtime Harborite, died on Monday, Nov. 16, 2015, at his home in Aberdeen. Daniel was born on April 3, 1958, in Prineville, Ore., to Wilbur H. and June M. (Derks) Carey.

He was raised in Warm Springs, Ore. The family moved to Philadelphia, Miss. when he was three and then to Hoquiam in 1968. He attended school in Hoquiam and graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1976.

Dan was married to Carol Boileau in 1981 in Aberdeen and they were divorced in 1986. He had been a member of the Cosmopolis Police Department for several years.

He was employed at the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Department from the late 1980’s until 2008. He had been a DARE Officer, a shooting instructor for the Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Department and a member of the SWAT Team.

Dan was married to Kelleen Hupp in 1987 and they divorced in 1994.

He always enjoyed working on cars and several years ago he built an A. C. Shelby Cobra. His hunting trips had taken him to Canada, Alaska, Montana and Idaho where he also enjoyed fishing. Traveling to California allowed him to visit his favorite place, Disneyland. He was also an avid photographer.

Daniel is survived by his son, Daniel J. Carey, Jr. of Vallejo, Calif.; his two daughters, Lesley Myers (Jason) of Saint Louis, Mo. and Taylor Ellison of Lacey; one granddaughter, Lily Mae Myers; his parents, Wilbur H. “Will” and June M. Carey of Hoquiam; his brothers, David Carey (Patti) of Fountain, Colo., Stephen Carey (Mary) of Montesano and Patrick Carey (Olesya) of Auburn; his sisters, Norma Rabe (Phil) of Anita, Iowa and Anna Shanks (Richard) of Aberdeen as well as other relatives.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 12 Noon, Monday, Nov. 23, 2015, at the Our Lady of Good Help Catholic Church, 200 “L” Street in Hoquiam, Washington with Father Brian D. Thompson, presiding celebrant. A time of fellowship for family and friends will follow in the church lounge.

Direction is by the Coleman Mortuary, 422 - 5th Street in Hoquiam.

Eileen R. Schafer

A celebration of life for longtime Humptulips resident Eileen Rissmann Schafer, who died Nov. 4 in Aberdeen, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Humptulips Grange. A potluck gathering will follow.

Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.

Warren Turner

CENTRALIA — Warren Turner, a resident of Chehalis, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015, at Liberty Country Home Prestige Care in Centralia. He was 80.

He lived is Grisdale from 1965 to 1985.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 6 at the Montesano Moose Lodge.

Arrangements are by the Cattermole Funeral Home in Winlock.

Edith J. Leithold

Edith Joanne Leithold, a lifetime Aberdeen resident, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 2015, at Pacific Care Center in Hoquiam. She was 89.

A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday at Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen.
