Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Carl Richard Anderson, 65, of Cosmopolis, Wash., known to many as Rick, passed away on Oct. 21, 2015 due to complications resulting from Cancer.
Rick was born on Jan. 15, 1950 in Monroe, Wash. and lived in nearby Index before moving to Port Angeles as a young boy. After graduating from Port Angeles H.S. in 1968, he began working in the timber industry around the North Olympic Peninsula and later would become a Clallam Bay Correctional Officer in 1992. Upon transferring for their careers, Rick and his wife LouAnn moved to Yakima in 1996 before finally settling in Cosmopolis in 2002. He retired in 2013 as a Correctional Sergeant.
He was known for being an outgoing jokester, with a quip for every occasion and a contagious sense of humor. There is a real beauty when loved ones can make each other laugh so hard, that it can bring you to tears. Rick definitely had that personality connection with his loved ones. Those times spent in laughter are special in our hearts.
He enjoyed water skiing (even barefoot) as a young man, playing decades of softball with friends, home improvement, camping, fishing, taking care of his vehicles, and watching sports in general. He also enjoyed custom woodworking, creating many special pieces over the years that he gave as gifts to his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife LouAnn, sons Rian Anderson (spouse Lacey) of Sequim, Nicholas Anderson (spouse Wyndi) of Port Angeles, daughter Amy Marie Mellies (spouse Blake) of Denver, and stepson Robert Spargur (spouse Colleen) of Aberdeen; sisters Anna Molina of Port Angeles, Peggy Roston of Sequim; grandchildren Quinlee, Nicholas, Hayden, Austin, Carter, Kier, and seven nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his close companion Dip-Dog.
He is preceded in death by his father Carl, mother Dorothy, stepfather Harold Abrams, and sister Carol Drake.
We all loved him and will miss him very much. There will be no formal service. At Rick’s request, an informal private gathering will be held at a later date at one of Rick’s favorite places, Kalaloch in Olympic National Park, where he will have the opportunity to join his mother and sister in spirit.
