Patricia Jane Legander
Patricia Jane Legander, age 85, a resident of Hoquiam, died on Sept. 15, 2015, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital. Mrs. Legander was born on Feb. 26, 1930, in Hoquiam to Rollo Charles and Blanche Muriel (Major) Manley.
After graduating from Hoquiam High School in 1948, she moved to New Jersey, Ohio where she remained until returning to Hoquiam in 1992.
She was a member of Our Lady of Good Help Catholic Church where she was an officer in the Altar Society and loved bingo at the Senior Center, tending to her flowers and plants and watching her favorite show, “Law and Order.”
Surviving relatives include three sons, Kenneth Legander Jr. of Hilliard, Ohio, Frank Legander of Hoquiam and James Legander of Delaware, Ohio; a daughter Patricia O’Connor of Hoquiam; three sisters, Betty Manley, Sally Carlson and Gretchen Samples, all of Hoquiam. The extended family includes five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Legander Sr., a daughter Sarah Legander and a sister, Isabel Gilbert.
At her request, there will be no public service.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Hoquiam Senior Center, 703 Simpson Av., Hoquiam, WA 98550.
Cremation arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
Anna Grace Lantz
Grace Lantz was born on April 23, 1920, in Elma, Wash., to John and Alma Kelly. Grace passed away on Sept. 8, 2015. She was predeceased by her five brothers Doug, Harry, Vic, Horace and Earl.
Grace married
Wes Johnson and had two daughters, Sharon and Donna. Wes passed in 1958. Grace was remarried
to Bob Lantz. They resided in Central Park until his death in 1999. Bob had four children, Gerry Friberg, Bob Jr., Dick and Dan. She moved to Belfair in 2005.
Grace is survived by all six children and many grandchildren.

Sherlie L. Barrett
Sherlie L. Barrett, 87, a long-time resident of Montesano, died peacefully Sept. 15, 2015 at The Hampton Alzheimer’s Special Care Center in Tumwater, Wash.
Sherlie was born on June 25, 1928 in Elma, Wash. to Erskine and Helen (Carter) Van De Wall. The family moved to Montesano where Sherlie graduated from Montesano High School and went on to have a long banking career.
She enjoyed flower gardening, puzzles, reading and baking. She was the “Cookie Grandma” for all of her grandchildren, who loved to help her. Toward the end of her life she was comforted by her teddy “Brown Bear, ” much to the delight of the Hampton’s residents and staff.
She is survived by her sister Lorene Ramsaur of Montesano, daughter Vicki (Darryl) Tinnerstet of McCleary, and son Owen Barrett in Montesano. Sherlie had five grandchildren: Joanne Broten, Bob Forsman, Jesse Ellis, Kyle Keeney and Rachel Barrett; and great-granddaughter Codi Jo Broten. She was preceded in death by her daughter Patti Keeney, brother Ralph Van De Wall, and sister Eleanor Hiles.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24 at Satsop cemetery.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Harrison Family Mortuary of Montesano.

Carl E. Gowey
Carl Evaston Gowey, a Copalis Beach resident and former auto parts store manager, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015, following an auto accident on the Moclips Highway. He was 73.

Mary Jo Jones
ELMA — Mary Jo Jones, an Elma resident and cashier at Astro’s Chevron in Elma, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 2015, at Summit Pacific Medical Center in Elma. She was 52.

Jack Oliver Bronson
Jack Oliver Bronson, 95, a resident of McCleary, Wash., and former street superintendent for the City of Aberdeen, died Monday, Sept. 7, 2015, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen.
Jack was born on Nov. 19, 1919, in Aberdeen to Vernon and Olive (Nichols) Bronson. He attended school in Tokeland. He worked for Strand Fisheries of Aberdeen before joining the Navy in November 1940. He was honorably discharged on Sept. 27, 1945.
While he was in the Navy he married
Dorothy Delphine Vasbinder on Sept. 16, 1943. She lives in Hoquiam.
Jack worked in construction and ran a road grader before going to work for the City of Aberdeen Streets Departmet as superintendent of maintenance. He retired in 1981. He moved to Lake Cushman for a few years before moving to McCleary in 1994.
He was a member of the Aberdeen VFW Post 224 and he enjoyed building things around the house.
Jack is survived by his wife of 72 years, Dorothy Bronson of Hoquiam; a son, Alan (Linda) of Montesano; a daughter, Gail (Ken) Flodstrom of McCleary; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Phillip Bronson.
A memorial service is being planned for later and details will follow in The Daily World.

ELMA — Gary Pearson of Elma died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015 at his home. He was 65.

Nancy Bair
Nancy C. Bair of Copalis Beach died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015 at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen. She was 81.

Charles Stalnaker
Charles F. Stalnaker of Ocean Shores died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2015 at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen. He was 71.

Barbara Mary (Walczyk) Siemion
Barbara Mary (Walczyk) Siemion passed away peacefully in Bellingham, Wash., on Sept. 1, 2015, surrounded by family and friends. She is survived by her daughter Michele, her son Matthew and his family, her brother Patrick and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Oct. 17 at 1 p.m. at Moles in Ferndale, Wash.
Eugene A. “Gene” Murphy
Eugene Adolph “Gene” Murphy, age 91, of Snohomish died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015, joining the loving arms of his wife Nancy and son Patrick.
Gene was born Aug. 16, 1924, at the family home in Brady, Wash., the 4th of 7th sons of John Patrick and Gertrude (LaPointe) Murphy. He grew up on the family dairy farm that had been in his family since before statehood.
He attended Olympic View School in Brady while working on the farm. He married
Nancy Lee Pease on Sept. 16, 1944, in Elma. She preceded him in death on Sept. 20, 2013 after 69 years of marriage. They enjoyed Saturday night dates, dancing, gardening and travel. Together they raised a wonderful family of five children.
He continued his dairy career at Arland Dairy Farm in Montesano, the Washington State Reformatory’s Honor Farm in Monroe, and was the dairy plant manager at Walt’s Milkhouse in Snohomish. He owned the M & M Ice Creamery in Snohomish from 1974-1979. He was known for making the best ice cream in the whole state, winning numerous awards.
Gene especially enjoyed boating, taking long walks with his dog Spencer and gave his grandchildren a special appreciation of Lawrence Welk.
Gene and Nancy lost their only son Patrick in 1984 in a plane crash in Alaska. Besides his beloved wife and son, Gene was also preceded in death by his brothers John, Joe, Bill, Jim and Frances and their wives. He is survived by four daughters: Linda Koontz, Sheila (Jim) West, Trudi (Ron) Trewin, and Michelle (Larry) White. He also cherished his seven grandchildren: Tara and Donovan Sydow, Angie and Paul West, Aaron and Cristina Trewin, and Ryan Beauchamp. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren: Brielle, Teagan, Syrena, Mikayla, Dannica, Payton, Ashley, Natalie, and Patrick. Also, a brother, Michael Murphy of Montesano.
A celebration of life will be held Monday, Oct. 12 at noon at Bauer Funeral Chapel, 701 First Street, Snohomish. A reception will follow at Waltz Building, 116 Avenue B, Snohomish.
Memorial donations can be made to the Nancy Murphy and son, John Patrick Murphy Memorial Scholarship Fund at Snohomish High School.
The family wishes to thank Providence Hospice for caring for Gene and his family during his last few weeks.
Jean Dolores Kauno
Jean Dolores Kauno passed away and went to be with the Lord on Oct. 6, 2015. Jean was born to Elmer and Faye Graves on May 23, 1926. She grew up in Tilden, Neb., spending most of her childhood years on the family farm where she loved to ride her horse, Lady, and to take sleigh rides in the snow. She was fortunate to have a large extended family close by and grew up with much love. Jean attended high school with the late comedian Johnny Carson in Norfolk, Neb. She went on to attend Wayne State Teacher’s College in Wayne, Neb. before venturing to Denver, Colo. to work at the Bell Telephone Company. Jean had a long career in social work and as a secretary to government agencies.
In 1946, she married
Frank McMahan, who preceded her in death. They had three children, Dr. Celestine McMahanWoneis, George McMahan, and Paul McMahan. In 1965, Jean moved to Aberdeen, Wash. and was involved in many activities and boards, including her church and the Finnish Lodge, of which her late husband Leo Kauno was a member. Jean had the opportunity to travel extensively in many countries and lived a rich, full life. She enjoyed quilting, spending time with her family, dancing, and volunteer work. Jean moved to Astoria, Ore. in 2006 to be near family during retirement. She attended the First Baptist Church in Astoria and was involved with the Warrenton Senior Center.
Jean is survived by her children, as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Children of George and Janice McMahan are Sarah Coplen, Rachel McMahan, Rebekah Lilley, Roberta Rivera, Boaz McMahan and Jesse McMahan. Children of Paul and Mary McMahan are Krystal McMahan, Aubrey McMahan, Janelle McMahan, Joshua McMahan, Joseph McMahan, Jonathan McMahan, and Annora McMahan, greatgrandchildren are Taylor Falls, Lauren Burr, Felipe DeJesus, Aubrey McMahan, Zadok Burr, Shane McMahan, Georgia McMahan, Anmaree Lilley, Alana McMahan, Everlee Lilley, and a great-grandson due in February. Jean was dearly loved by all, and has left a legacy of which she can be proud. She will be greatly missed. Although we mourn, we know there is rejoicing in Heaven.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 4 p.m. at Shively Hall in Astoria. We welcome all who knew Jean to join us in celebrating her life. A private graveside service will be held for the family on Monday, Oct. 12.
Alberta Patricia (Patty) Friberg
Patty Friberg, age 82, passed on to be with her precious Savior on July 15, 2014, in Hoquiam. She began her life journey Sept. 11, 1931, in Hoquiam. She moved to Lacey, Wash. in 1987 where she resided for 25 years. She was very active within her church family as well as community charities. She is survived by her daughters, Shannon Rouse, Donna Jeanne Williams, Kathy Payton and her son, David Friberg. The Lord also blessed her with 9 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Patty is also survived by her brother Bill Rochon and her sister, Barbara Suslick and numerous nieces, great-nieces, nephews and great-nephews.
Her sole aspiration in life was to be a good mother as well as to be a reflection of her savior, Jesus. She lived to see all of her children and grandchildren realize their spiritual and heavenly destiny. As stated in Proverbs 31:28, “Her children arise and call her blessed.”
A celebration of her life will be held at the Light and Life Community Church 2740 Simpson Ave., Hoquiam, at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 23. A reception will follow.

Alexander (Sandy) Wilson
Alexander (Sandy) Wilson passed away June 22, 2014, from complications of a stroke. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family that loved him deeply.
Sandy was born September 16, 1940, in Alert Bay, B. C., Canada to Walter and Signe Wilson. He grew up in Sointula, BC, a small Finnish community.
He moved to the U.S to take a job with Lamb Grays Harbor in Hoquiam Wash. He spent most of his career working for Lamb’s. He was known for his work in the pulp and paper industry. He loved his work and was acknowledged for his amazing ability as a problem solver. He and a co-worker started a business together called Viatech. He was working up until the day he died.
Sandy absolutely loved his family and spent countless hours and vacations with them. It was rare that he would miss a birthday or event for his grandchildren. He enjoyed concerts, sporting events and most of all golf! If he wasn’t playing it, he loved watching it. He was a productive person and thoroughly enjoyed serving others.
Sandy is survived by two daughters and one son, Ella-Mae Keatts of Lewiston, Carrie Amato of Portland and Michael Wilson of Seattle. He had eight grandchildren which he delighted in. He is also survived by his brother, Lawrence (Larry) Wilson of Surrey, BC.
Sandy was well loved. His family is heartbroken and will miss him immensely.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on Aug. 2, 2014, at the Grays Harbor Country Club at 2 p.m. For those who would like to play a round of golf in Sandy’s honor, a shotgun round of golf will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Earl K. Boling
Earl K. Boling, the son of a Chehalis (Grays Harbor) County pioneer family, passed away peacefully on Sept. 28, 2015, in Southern Oregon. He was 89 years old. Earl was born at the family home on the Mox Chehalis ranch on May 8, 1926, to Manny I. and Zelpha J. (SUTTERFIELD) Boling. His paternal grandparents, Elijah Jefferson Boling and Mary Alice (HATTABAUGH) Boling were early settlers on the Mox Chehalis. Earl’s maternal grandfather, Allen Lee Sutterfield was instrumental in building the still existing city hall in Elma and numerous historic buildings, homes and schools in then Chehalis County, including the first school on the Moxee.
Earl graduated from Elma High School in 1943 and lived and worked in the Grays Harbor area for many years. At one time owning the Porter Store and The Gibson Creek Grocery. He also sold automobiles for The Day Motor Company in the fifties and sold life insurance for New York Life. He left Grays Harbor for Anchorage, Alaska, in 1964 where he worked for The Anchorage Daily Times for many years before relocating to ranches in Alberta, Canada; finally, in Southern Oregon where he sold real estate, farmed and raised seed for The Territorial Seed Company.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Manny and Zelpha Boling and by his siblings: Jefferson Lee Boling, Phillip Ralph Boling and Grace Boling Sherwood. Also preceding him in death were his wife of many years, Patricia Tetreau Boling and daughter, Diane Emerson.
Earl is survived by his children: Sharon Boling Wilson, Linda Boling Smith, Carol Boling Seaman, Douglas Boling, John Boling, David Emerson, Debra Emerson-Goodroad. Also, surviving Earl are many friends, family, nieces & nephews, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren still in Grays Harbor-and elsewhere.
Earl—father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle to many, will be remembered with a private celebration of his life later this year.
Marilyn E. Hamerski
Marilyn Elizabeth Hamerski, 79, sister of Shirley I. Oliver Johnson of Montesano, died at a Lacey convalescent home Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015.
Marilyn was born in Toledo, Ore. on Dec. 28, 1935, the daughter of John Dan and Mildred M. (Metzger) DeGroot. The family came to Everett, Wash. and Marilyn graduated from Everett High School in 1953. She went on to Everett Business College.
She had worked at Everett’s Totem Drive-In during school, later working in the business office of a dairy. In the 1960’s she went to Washington, DC to be a secretary at the Bureau of Land Management. She would then live in California going on to Gresham, Ore. where she worked in the offices of Liberty Mutual Insurance, Co. in Portland, retiring in 1994.
Marilyn is survived by two sons: Michael P. Rundell, Gresham, Ore. and Scott A. Rundell, Canby, Ore.; and a sister: Shirley I. Oliver Johnson, Montesano. There are also three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Charles F. DeGroot in 2013 and Lawrence DeGroot many years ago.
At Marilyn’s request there will be no formal memorial services.

Maria A. Leguizamo
SEATTLE — Maria Antonia Leguizamo of Humptulips died Monday, Sept. 21, 2015, at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle. She was 55.
