Cheryl R. (Amsbury) Dombroski
OLYMPIA — Hoquiam resident Cheryl Renee (Amsbury) Dombroski died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. She was 48.
Arrangements are pending through the Harrison Family Mortuary of Aberdeen.
Robert Johnson
SHELTON — Robert B. Johnson of Mason Lake died Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, in Shelton. He was 83.
He worked as a designer for Rognlin’s since 1965.
Service details will be announced in a complete obituary.

Ronald A. Foulds Sr.
SHELTON — Lifetime Hoquiam resident Ronald Andrew Foulds Sr. of Shelton died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015, in Shelton. He was 94.
Donations are suggested to ILWU Scholarships C/O Longshore Federal Credit Union, 3107 John Stevens Way, Hoquiam WA 98550.
At his request there will be no services.
Arrangements are by the Neptune Society in Tacoma.
Terry J. Lang Sr.
Terry John Lang Sr., a resident of Ocean Shores, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen. He was 65.
He was a retired U.S. Coast Guard Licensed Chief Engineer.
A memorial reception will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Ocean Shores Eagles No. 4197.
Cremation arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
Bonita F. DeLaCruz
TAHOLAH — Bonita Faye DeLaCruz of Taholah died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015, at home. She was 63.
Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Coleman Mortuary. A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Community Center in Taholah.
Gordon James Peterson
Gordon James Peterson, a longtime resident of Aberdeen, Wash., died on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen. He was born on Nov. 21, 1930, in Flint, Mich. to Edwin C. and Anna (Paulson) Peterson.
When Gordon was about six months of age his family moved to McNeal Island, Wash. where his father, Edwin, worked as a prison guard. There, Gordon received his early formal and un-formal education. He was not only instructed by the teachers at the island school, but by a few of the trustee inmates who preformed many of the tasks, outside of the locked area of the prison.
In 1941, the family left the island and moved to Lakewood, Wash. There, Gordon attended school, graduating from Clover Park High School in 1948. While growing up, Gordon enjoyed playing basketball and football. He had been selected captain of the football team.
After high school he attended Washington State University and soon transferred to the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma where he graduated in 1952. His next education was with the United States Army Medical Service Corps, where as a First Lieutenant, he was assigned to an Evacuation Hospital in Europe.
During his high school and college summers, from 1945 through 1952, he worked at Mountain View cemetery in Tacoma as a groundsman.
Following his military discharge in 1956, he attended the California College of Mortuary Science that was located just across the street from Los Angeles General Hospital. Following a year of intensive study, he was able to pass the Washington State Board testing for funeral directors and embalmers.
1957 found Gordon Peterson working at Elerding Funeral Home in Aberdeen, Wash. In 1970 he opened the Fern Hill Funeral Home and operated it until selling in 1995.
For numerous years he enjoyed flying. He was a member of the Grays Harbor Chapter of the Washington Pilot’s Association. He also belonged to the Aberdeen Kiwanis Club; a Life Member of the Aberdeen Elks Lodge and the South Beach Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3057 at Westport. He was an active member of the local Knife and Fork Club. He was on the Board of Directors Campfire for 10 + years; Active Club and American Legion Post No. 5.
Gordon is survived by his brother and sister, who are twins, Earle Peterson of Boise, Idaho and Ardis Howell of Everett, Washington and his best buddy, Charley. He was preceded in death by his brother, Harland Peterson, DDS of Tacoma, Washington.
Special thanks goes to his caregivers, Nancy Rust, Ken Hutchinson and Brandy Martinez.
A private graveside service was held at the Aberdeen Fern Hill cemetery.
Direction was by the Coleman Mortuary, 422 – 5th Street in Hoquiam.
Mike Richard Vita
Mike Richard Vita, 71, Aberdeen resident and former police officer with the Aberdeen Police Department, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 27, 2015, at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Wash.
Mike was born on Dec. 17, 1943 in Minneapolis, Minn. to Clarence and Grace (Melstrom) Vita.
At the age of 8 the family moved to Aberdeen and Mike graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1961.
He worked for Swanson’s as a box boy and worked his way up to manager of the Sporting Goods Department in the South Aberdeen Store.
He then went to work for the Aberdeen Police Department and retired after 26 years on the force.
He was president of the Aberdeen Police Association from 1984-87 and was the 1st Annual, Aberdeen Elks “Policeman of the Year” award winner in 1986.
Mike also worked on the staff of Fern Hill Funeral Home and for the Grays Harbor Housing Authority.
On Aug. 1, 1985, Mike married
Kathleen A. Harmon at Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. She lives at the family home.
Mike was a member of the Aberdeen Elks Lodge No. 593, Elks Officer of the year 1987-88 and Aberdeen Elks “Loyal Knight” 1990-91.
Mike loved spending as much time as he could with his family, grandkids and friends.
He also enjoyed trains, doing crossword puzzles, playing solitaire and working in the yard.
Mike is survived by his wife of 29 years, Kathleen Vita of Aberdeen, two daughters, Dawn Currie of Montesano and Deanne and husband Tim King of Cosmopolis, a son, Christopher Vita of Aberdeen, a stepsister, Charlene Dawe of Florida, and eight grandchildren: Mike King, Jessica King, Joey King, Kassidy Currie, Katelyn Currie, Mattison Vita, Ayden Vita and Kenadi Vita.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 31st at 4 p.m. at the Aberdeen Elks Lodge.
Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen.
Leslie Allen Strandberg
Leslie Allen Strandberg died Dec. 22, 2014, after a long battle with cancer.
He was born April 3, 1949, to Leslie Ambrose and Genevieve Louise Strandberg.
In 1966 he joined the U.S. Marines and was honorably discharged in 1968.
During the 1970s, Les was married
to Barbara Peters and later to Sharon Schneider.
In 1987 Les married
Cova E. Smith in Raymond, Wash. They later divorced.
He later married
Janis Lemieux in April of 2014, and she survives him at the family home.
Les was a workaholic who loved what he did, working in the woods.
He continued to work throughout his battles with cancer up until this last round.
He lived for taking care of his grandkids, which he did up until his death.
Les was a very spiritual man who loved debating religion, and his favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing until his health forced him to stop.
He was a very kind man, helping anyone who needed it.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his mother and stepfather Willis Randall, daughter Tayler Covah (Bill) Turpin, 13 stepchildren, brothers Cory (Margaret) Randall, Lewis Arquette Randall, and Daniel Hud Randall. Sisters Genevieve (Steve) Porter, LeoLyn DuVal, Teena (Allen) Butterfield, and Toni Zalocko, five grandchildren, numerous step grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren who he was raising at the time of his death, numerous nieces and nephews and many, many cousins.
Les was preceded in death by his father (1952), brother Leonard Arquette Randall (1989) and a sister, Juanita Oneal.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Bonita Faye DeLaCruz-Moorehead
Bonita Faye DeLaCruz-Moorehead, 63 years of age and a longtime resident of Mocilps, Wash. passed away Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015, at her family home in Taholah, Wash.
She was born Jan. 11, 1952, in Crescent City, Calif. to Cornelius and Alberta (Bahr) Moorehead.
She was raised in Smith River, Calif., graduating high school at Delmore County, Calif.
She married
and had two children shortly after high school.
Bonnie was a professional homemaker, worked secretarial jobs and was a bank teller while raising her two sons, Gregory and Christopher Samuelsen.
Her free spirit brought her to Washington where she worked her way to the Taholah School, working as a secretary.
She later married
Franklin DeLaCruz Sr. and continued secretarial work and housekeeping until their children graduated high school.
She enjoyed her work with the Union as a flagger for almost 10 years and naturally advanced in her efforts.
Her caring nature, honest hard working values and love for her family were but a few of her attributes.
Bonnie loved being with family and would often make road trips back home to Smith River.
She worked for the Roger Saux Health Center the past 6 years and was known, respected and adored by her co-workers and loved by the patients and community members they cared for.
She was preceded in death by her husband Franklin DeLaCruz Sr., son, Christopher Samuelsen, brother Harvey Moorehead and parents Cornelius and Alberta (Barr) Moorehead.
She is survived at the family home by her sons Gregory Samuelsen, Franklin DeLaCruz Jr. (Chandra Bryson), and daughter Dawneen R. DeLaCruz (Gerry Dan Jr.), grandchildren James Black, Nathaniel Samuelsen, Franklin DeLaCruz III, Savannah Dan, James Dan, Kylie Dan and Alice Johnstone, brother Darrell Moorehead and sister Elaine Moorehead and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was known as Gramma Bonnie in the community.
Visitation will be at the Coleman Mortuary on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 2, 2015, at the Community Center in Taholah.
Direction was by the Coleman Mortuary, 422 – 5th Street in Hoquiam.
Danny Ray Miller
Danny Ray Miller, 57, Wishkah Valley resident for most of his life and truck driver for Puget Sound Wood Products, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen of a stroke.
Danny was born on Nov. 10, 1957, to Raymond LeRoy and Mary Ann (Zelepuza) Miller in Aberdeen, Wash.
He graduated from Weatherwax High School and was a truck driver for over 35 years.
Danny is survived by his mother Mary Miller of Wishkah Valley, two brothers: David L. Miller of Summit Lake, Wash. and Donald Miller of Aberdeen, many nieces and nephews, his dog, Bailey and cat, Cleo. He was preceded in death by an infant sister Kimberly following her birth.
There will be no services.
Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen.
Einar R. Laaksonen
Einar R. Laaksonen, age 93, passed away peacefully Jan. 16, 2015, at his Seattle home.
He was a longtime resident of Aberdeen and Hoquiam. He is survived by his daughter Diane Laaksonen, brother Stanley, granddaughters Autumn Smith, and Allyson Scott, three great-grandchildren, stepson Rick Gilbert and numerous relatives.
A celebration of his life will be at the Alki Bathhouse, 1702 Alki Ave S.W. in W. Seattle on Thursday, Feb. 12 at 1 p.m.
James Milton Queen
James Milton Queen, age 50 and a longtime Grays Harbor resident, passed away Jan. 16, 2015, at Tacoma General Hospital.
He was born on June 18, 1964, in Peoria, Ill., to Lawrence and Nancy (Norris) Queen. James attended Oakville High School.
He enjoyed antiquing, fishing and playing the guitar.
James is survived by his daughter, Brittany, son, James Anthony, 6 months, and daughter Toni Elizabeth, 2 years., to Tracey I. Koonrad, brothers Larry, Randy and Tom, and a sister-in-law Becky.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Nancy.
