Robert Eugene Cheney

Robert Eugene Cheney, born May 21, 1930. He passed away at home on July 22, 2012, with his family at his side.

Robert was a lifetime resident of Glenoma. Preceding him in death was his father Archie Cheney, Sr., his mother Stella F. Cheney (Coleman), his wife Mina Joy Cheney (Ball), his sisters Betty Rose Cheney and Irene Harris, his brother Archie T. Cheney, Jr.

Robert is survived by his children, Betty Lou Ihrig (John), Katherine Irene Yost (Steve), Robert Eugene Cheney, Jr. (Cathy), Rosie Mae Gall (Richard), Albert Lee Cheney, Nyla K. Cheney and (Sam) James Daniel Cheney. He has 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Also best friend Vivian Flemming.

Robert was a lifetime logger. His biggest enjoyment was the time he spent with his wife at the casino. Robert was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a life time NRA supporter. His hobby was creating knives from saw blades and elk horns.

The family of Robert Cheney would also like to give thanks to Melissa Zapalac for her support and care for Robert in his last days with us.

Per Robert's and families wishes, no service will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Cattermole Funeral Home, Winlock.

Jenny Craig (Virginia Yvonne Talley)

Jenny Craig (Virginia Yvonne Talley), 53 of Chehalis, Wash., went home to be with the Lord on July 24, 2012 on the High Tower Trailhead near Ashford, Wash. She was born Jan. 16, 1959 in Traver City, Mich., and was the daughter of the late Clifford and Loretta Talley who preceded her in death. Jenny graduated from Mt. St. Helens High School at Winlock, Wash., in 1977. On May 2, 1981 Jenny married Terry Lynn Craig of Centralia, Wash. Together they had two sons, Joseph and Mathew Craig of Centralia, Wash.

Jenny volunteered for many years for the Rochester School District before beginning her employment there in 1998. She was an education assistant for the past 14 years and worked with countless students during her tenure that meant so much to her. Jenny also held her church family at Faith Baptist Church in a special place in her heart. As a young girl Jenny loved horses and has been known her whole life as a hard worker. Jenny enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, the outdoors, crafting, reading, walking, and was especially fond of hummingbirds. She was loved by many and known by her friends and family as someone who would always be there for you no matter what. She was always quick to support her community in times of need. Her infectious smile and sense of humor will truly be missed by all.

Jenny is survived by her ex-husband Terry Lynn Craig; sons, Joseph and Mathew Craig; grandson Rylen Craig; brother and sister-in-law Clifford and Annette Talley; nieces and nephews Chandra (Joe) Tuder, Colton (Carissa) Talley, Danielle Craig, Glenn Craig, Ryan Althauser, Katrina (Chris) Springer, Miranda (Landon) Shoemaker, and Bryceson Talley; great-nieces and nephews Jaycee Talley, Gunnar Talley, Kiley Talley, Garrett Springer, Grady Springer, Shane Springer, Delaney Shoemaker, Sawyer Shoemaker, Hudson LJ Shoemaker, Alaina Craig, Bailey Warner, and Henry Steiger; close family friends Pam and Mark Althauser, Joe and Betty Slape, Angela Buemann, Rod Woodruff, and a long list of many loved ones Jenny held near to her heart.

A graveside service will be held at Claquato cemetery, Chehalis, Wash., on Tuesday, July 31 at 1 p.m. for family and close friends. A celebration of life and reception will follow at Grand Mound Elementary School in Rochester, Wash., at 4 p.m. Funeral arrangements are in the care of Sticklin Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Jenny’s name at Security State Bank.

Leslie T. Atkins

His daughter Shannon (Patrick) Sauter of Chehalis, daughter Stephanie (Scott) Longa-necker of Tumwater, WA. His pride and joy were his grandchildren, Johnny Sauter who resides in Chehalis, Michelle Sauter of Athens, Ohio, and Jena Longanecker of Tumwater. Additional survivors are his mother-in-law Myra McConnell of Onalaska, step grandchildren, his sisters Theresa (Manny) Hettler of Centralia, WA, Lorraine (Frank) Elke of Longview, WA and his brother Jim (Linda) Atkins of Helena, MT and numer-ous aunts, cousins, nieces nephews and life long friends. Les is preceded in death by his parents, grandmother (Iva Hail) and brother Chuck Atkins, brothers-in-law Larry and Lee Roy McConnell.

He attended St. Joseph's School in Chehalis, Mossyrock and St. Martins High School, graduating from Stevenson High School. He graduated from Centralia College and was also a graduated of St. Martin's College, where he completed his teaching degree. Les spent is entire teaching career at W.F. West High School in Chehalis, substitute teach-ing for several years after retirement in Winlock and Onalaska High School. He also served 4 years in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Fletcher.

Les had many interests in his lifetime. He was a SW Washington Fair lifetime member, including several years as a board member and as President. He served on the Advisory Committee for the Puyallup Fair FFA, the Advisory Board of the Electronics Department at Centralia College, Chehalis High School FFA Advisor, District III FFA Advisor, Chehalis Activators, Lewis County Farmers Market, and the Lewis County Youth Fair, of which he was a founding member.

Les had many hobbies and interests, including gardening, woodworking and bird watching. He most enjoyed watching his grandchildren's sporting events, where you could always see and hear him on the sidelines.

A visitation for Les Atkins will be Saturday, October 30, 2004 from 4:00 pm-7:00pm and Monday, November 1, 2004 from 9:00am-5:00pm at the Stick-lin Funeral Chapel. A Funeral Mass is scheduled to begin at 11:00am on Tuesday, November 2, 2004 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be held at the Alpha cemetery, Onalaska.

Shirlie Jeanette (Tebbs) Verley

Shirlie Jeanette (Tebbs) Verley passed away on November 10, 2010 at her home in Chehalis, Washington. She was born February 16, 1931 in Goldendale, Washington, first child of the late Cedric McEwen Tebbs and Anna Loretta (Thomson) Tebbs. She grew up in Goldendale and attended high school in White Salmon, Washington where she graduated Salutatorian of her class in 1949, and where she met Gene Ray Verley, to whom she was married on August 31, 1950 (his birthday).

Shirlie received her Bachelor (1962) and Master’s (1968) degrees in Education from Central Washington State College (now University). She taught elementary grades in San Leandro, California (1958-1964), and Chehalis (at Cascade Elementary and R.E. Bennett, 1964-67), eventually “graduating” to W.F. West High School, where she was chair of the English department for many years, and taught English classes from 1967 until her retirement in 1989. She was a dedicated and innovative teacher, respected and admired by all who knew her.

Shirlie spent a number of summers in Europe as a study-tour teacher and chaperone with groups of high school and college students from Lewis County and elsewhere. She was a lifelong student herself, interested in many topics. She loved snow skiing and line dancing, aerobic exercise and gardening, and did them all for as long as she was able.

Shirlie remained active in many organizations before and after retirement. She was especially involved in genealogy and she and Gene spent a week every year (after wintering in Lake Havasu City, Arizona) at the LDS Library in Salt Lake City researching their family histories. Shirlie was a member of the Lewis County Genealogical Society, Daughters of the Pioneers of Washington and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also an active member of the St. Helens Club in Chehalis and the Clara Armstrong Guild of Children’s Hospital, Delta Kappa Gamma, and a past member of the Lewis County American Association of University Women. She attended the Grace Foursquare Church in Centralia, where she taught adult Bible Study classes for many years.

Shirlie was preceded in death by her brother Willis Larry Tebbs (1938-2002). She is survived by her husband of 60 years and their three children, Susan Kay Verley, Steven Ray (Debbie) Verley and Shane Curtis (Cynthia) Verley, all of Chehalis; three grandchildren, Zane Verley, Adam Verley and Sara (Verley) Hinkey; ten great-grandchildren, her other brother, Donald Cedric (Sandra) Tebbs, of Granite Bay, California, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Her many friends in Lewis and Klickitat counties and her entire family will miss her very much.

A memorial service will be held at Grace Foursquare Church, 3030 Borst Ave. in Centralia, at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 17. A second, smaller service and burial will take place in White Salmon, Washington on Friday, November 19.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Assured Home Health/Hospice through the Visiting Nurses Foundation or the American Cancer Society.

Lucille Bremgartner Pakar

Lucille Bremgartner Pakar was born on Oct. 13, 1917 in St. Urban (near Winlock), Wash to Lawrence and Josephine Bremgartner.

As a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, the good Lord came to take her with him to heaven on July 26, 2012, at the age of 94.

She married Paul Pakar on July 24, 1943.

She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Baker (Mike) of Chehalis, Janice Sanford (Bill) of Randle, daughter-in-law, Corinne Pakar of Randle, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Paul, her son, Jim, her parents, her brother and sister.

Lucille enjoyed camping and fishing trips with family and close friends. She also enjoyed maintaining her flower and berry gardens. She spent may years crocheting and knitting afghans and sweaters for her family. She donated numerous afghans to her church and to the St. Urban Settlement Fund for raffles.

The family would like to thank the staff of Morton General Hospital for their love and compassion during this difficult period. A special thanks to Nancy Pederson for all her kindness, help and continued special attention to our mom. We would also like to thank Hospice for their help and concern.

Services will be at the Sacred Heart Church in Morton, Wash., on Aug. 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m.

A potluck will follow at the church hall.

Services are under the care of Cattermole Funeral Home, Winlock.

Buresh Dorothy

Dorothy Lela (Bailey) Buresh, 94, passed away Monday, July 23, 2012 at her residence. Dorothy was born May 26, 1918 in Tacoma, Wash., to Sarah (Biles) and Berry Bailey. At the age of four, Dorothy moved to LaGrande, Ore., with her parents.

Dorothy worked for Falk's Department for eight years. During WWII, Dorothy moved to Denver, Colo., where she worked for the U.S. Forest Service. She transferred to Alaska to work for the Federal Forest Service as an accountant. She married Emil Buresh and settled in Juneau before retiring in Alaska. In 1978 Dorothy moved to Port Angeles Wash., untill 1988 when she moved to Chehalis Washington where she lived the rest of her life.

Dorothy will be deeply missed by everyone that knew her.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two sisters Mary Herman and Connie Jones.

She is survived by two step-children Gail Field and Gary Buresh, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Arrangements are under care of Brown Mortuary Service, Chehalis, Wash.

Kurt Lee Van Noy

Kurt Lee Van Noy passed away quietly on July 31, 2012 after a very long and hard battle from various aliments. Kurt was born in King City, Calif., on Oct. 31, 1951. Kurt and his family moved to Centralia Wash., in 1963. Kurt spent most of the next 49 years in and around the Centralia area.

Kurt’s smile, laughter, and sense of humor could win over any room. Kurt loved his family especially the little ones. Kurt was a fighter, he struggled with finding his direction and path in life but he never gave up till the bitter end. Kurt’s life took many twist and turns and he always lived life to the best of his ability. Kurt fought death as he often fought life, tooth and nail.

Kurt was extremely talented he could use his big ole hands to make something beautiful out of nothing. He was an outstanding athlete in youth sports and for his high school the Centralia Tigers of Centralia Wash., participating in wrestling, football, and baseball. He was also a veteran of the Vietnam War. Kurt worked many years in the Centralia area as a logger. Kurt loved the Centralia area and it is fitting his life here on earth ended where he had his happiest and sometimes most bitter memories, many will truly miss him.

Kurt was preceded in death by his parents, father Richard John Van Noy and mother Opal Roberta (Van Noy) Oviatt, and brother John R. Van Noy whom past away on Jan. 5, 2012. Kurt is survived by one brother Albert (Herk) Van Noy of Lathrop Calif., step-daughter Courtney Crouch of Olympia, Wash., and numerous nieces and nephews living in California, and many friends both in Washington and California. Kurt was 60 years of age at his passing.

Daniel Bernard Webster (Grandpa Dan)

On July 30, 2012, Dan passed away at his home in Napavine, Wash., where he resided for the last 34 years. He was 74.

Dan was born to Herbert and Jeanette (Merritt) Webster in Cincinnati, Ohio on Jan. 11, 1930. Dan's school days were spent in Cincinnati Ohio along with his 12 siblings.

Dan met the love of his life, Beverly Bliss (Kay) in California. They were married in Riverside, Calif., on Sept. 22, 1962. Together they raised their three kids, Donald of Napavine, Michelle of Raymond and Robert of Chehalis, in the Everett, Chehalis and Napavine school districts. Dan and Bev spent 49 wonderful years together.

Dan is survived by his beloved wife, Bev at their home in Napavine, sons, Donald Webster and Robert Webster (Jeni) and daughter, Michelle Lister (Chad), 11 grandchildren. Dan was expecting his first great-grandchild in March, 2013.

A celebration of Dan's life will be held on Saturday Aug. 11, 2012 at the home of his son Robert, in Chehalis at 2:00 p.m.

Verna Louise Albrecht

Verna Louise Albrecht died July 29, 2012 at the Logan House Adult Family Home in Centralia, Wash.

Verna was born Sept. 20, 1932 near Arlington, Wash., to Nora Mae and Thomas Duffin. Verna lived near Chehalis, Wash., most of her life. She attended Chehalis High School graduating in 1950. She was married to Roland Leslie Albrecht on Nov., 3, 1951. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2001 with a large gathering of friends and relatives.

Verna was raised during the depression. She was an active member of the Chehalis First Baptist Church nearly all of her life. She worked in the family logging business. She spent a number of years working as a Grey Lady volunteer at the MacMillan Sanitarium. Later she worked with special education students in Chehalis and Centralia and volunteered in the H.O.S.T. reading program at Adna. Verna’s interests included flower gardening, photography and travel. She took a number of trips over the years in the United States and Europe, which she thoroughly enjoyed.

Verna was preceded in death by her husband Roland, two brothers, Roy and Tom, two sisters, Dorothy and Martha. She is survived by one sister, Millie, of Winlock, sons Robin (AKA) Charlie of Chehalis, and Mike and his wife Molly of Corvallis, Ore., and grandchildren Andy of Corvallis, Ore., and Robin of New York.

Visitation may be made Thursday, August 2, 2012 between Noon and 5:00 p.m. at Brown Mortuary in Chehalis. A graveside service is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m., Friday August 3, 2012 at Claquato cemetery followed by a memorial service at the Chehalis First Baptist Church on Market Blvd. at 1:30 p.m. with a reception following.

Matthew Robert Baker

Matthew Robert Baker was born on Dec. 15, 1971 and passed away Aug. 7, 2012 in his Centralia, Wash., home. He was raised in Packwood, Wash., and loved his roots there. He went on to be a diesel tech mechanic and had just started a plant store in Chehalis, Wash., that he was very excited about. Matt enjoyed and lived life to the fullest and loved being with his friends and family.

Through the pain from a separation from his wife Karrie Hamilton, Matt had recently turned his life over to Jesus and was very passionate in his faith.

He was very appreciative of his surviving parents, Robert and Cheryl Baker and had expressed how grateful he was that they were always there for him.

He loved and was proud of his 21 year old son, Christian Reeves of Tacoma, Wash., and was looking forward to more “father and son” outings.

His surviving siblings, Brian Elliott, Michele Willis, Patti Kelly, Dustin Baker, Andrew Baker and Robbie Baker are already missing Matt’s adventures and are proud to say that he was their brother.

Matthew was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Marie Baker, sister, Yvonne Marie Baker.

Please join us in a “celebration of life” service for Matthew Robert Baker at the Packwood Assembly of God on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. There will be a BBQ following the service at the Baker Ranch (if you can bring a salad or dessert that would be appreciated). Richard Anthony Bieker

Richard Anthony Bieker died in a motorcycle accident near Bozeman, Mont., Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012. Rich was born Oct. 8, 1949 in Auburn Wash., and was raised in Chehalis. He is survived by his father and step-mother, Dick and Jean Bieker. He is preceded in death by his mother, Doris Bieker. He is survived by his companion, Allyson Flowers. His siblings Renee Brewer, Kirkland Wash., Ron and Mary Jo Bieker, Puyallup Wash., and Resa and Todd Wilson, Kirkland Wash. His Children are Tony Bieker (Jennie Roberts, mother), Tor and Lisa Bieker, Sam and Trinity Bieker, Beth and Whit Hamlin (Pat Fetter, mother). He had four nieces and nephews and seven grandchildren.

Rich lived a passionate and adventurous life traveling the globe and doing what he loved. Richard had an extensive career in real estate and property management. He was the owner of RAB Properties in Seattle, Wash.

There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012 at St. Joseph School, 123 SW 6th St. Chehalis, Wash., from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Pamela Jean De Long

Pamela Jean De Long, 48 passed away Friday Aug. 17, 2012 in Centralia, Wash. She was born Nov. 8, 1963 to Steve and Jean (Starkey) De Long in Reedsburg, Wis.

She attended school in Reedsburg, Wis., and graduated from Rochester High School in 1982. She later earned her AA in drug and alcohol counseling from Centralia College. She also worked in the nursing field for several years.

Survivors include her three loving children, daughter, Stephanie and two sons, Kevin and Tommy De Long; one granddaughter; mother, Jean De Long; sister, Vicki (De Long) Lucht; niece, Paula Lucht; great-nephews, Steven, Johnny, Erick and Austin Lucht.

She is preceded in death by her father Steve De Long.

A memorial service for Pamela De Long is scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012 at Sticklin Funeral Chapel with pastor John Johnstone officiating. A luncheon reception will follow the service in the Sticklin hospitality room.
