Denny Simpson
April 13, 1960 - October 26, 2014
Denny Simpson passed away in Portland, Ore., on Oct. 26, 2014. Denny, a native of Hoquiam, Wash., was born April 13, 1960. He is survived by his wife, Susan; two children, Andrea and Rian; his mother, Barbara Rydman; his father, Dennis Simpson; two sisters, Leann and Sarah and three brothers, Craig, Stephen and Jon. A celebration of Denny’s life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 11 a.m. at Valley Christian Church in Wilsonville, Ore.
Dennis Eric Rydman
Dennis Eric Rydman, 65, died suddenly on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2014, at Mesa View Regional Hospital in Mesquite, Nev. He was born March 8, 1949, in Aberdeen, Wash., to Richard Eric and Frances Lee (Frazier) Rydman. On Aug. 15, 1970, he married
Kathryn Ann Krause in Aberdeen. They had two sons and were later divorced. On Sept. 4, 1987, he married
Jacquelyn Ann Hill in St. Petersburg, FL.
Dennis lived most of his life in Washington. He enjoyed his schooling at the St. Martins High School and College, Lacey, WA. He grew up in a fishing family and loved the industry. With hard work, ingenuity, and a gregarious personality, he rose from fishing off the coast of Washington and Alaska to CEO/President of Ocean Gold Seafoods Inc. based in Westport, Wash. He was respected and appreciated by his employees, business partners and other industry executives.
In 2010, he semi-retired to Mesquite, Nev., where he enjoyed 4-wheelin’ in the desert, playing blackjack and time with family. He was able to balance a successful career while being close with his wife and children. He was devoted to caring for his wife as she endured breast cancer treatments for over a year. He will be remembered with love and admiration.
Survivors include his wife Jackie Rydman, Mesquite; three sons, Mark (Holly), Olympia, Wash., Eric (Courtney), Bay City, Wash., and Ross (Mandy), Las Vegas, Nev.; a brother, Richard (Cathy), Othello, Wash.; and two sisters, Penny (Kirk) Jones, Bainbridge, Wash., and Lynda (Robert) Patterson, San Diego, Calif. There are also seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014, at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aberdeen. A reception will follow at the Rotary Log Pavilion. Private interment will be in the Fern Hill cemetery in Aberdeen.

Franklin D. DeLaCruz Sr.
Franklin D. DeLaCruz Sr., 68 years of age and longtime resident of Moclips, Wash., died on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014, at Smith River, Calif. He was born on July 7, 1946, in Aberdeen, Wash., to Joseph DeLaCruz Sr. and Edna Lane DeLaCruz.
He was raised in Moclips and attended the local schools, and then attended school in San Diego, (Claremont District) Calif. He returned to Moclips and enjoyed working in the woods as a cedar block cutter, was an avid fisherman, master carver of walking sticks carved with designs of the eagle, salmon and native art. Franklin carved the DeLaCruz family ocean canoe named sh'agatio. Franklin began fishing on the Chehalis River in the 1970’s and became an institution on the river, known by many as the “old man of the river.” Many people looked up to Franklin for his strong beliefs in Quinault cultural.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Franklin DeLaCruz and Chris Samuelsen; parents Joseph DeLaCruz and Edna Lane Ebling; step-father, Arthur R. Ebling; brothers, Joseph B. DeLaCruz and Allen Ebling; sisters, Jacqueline Simmons Capoeman, Sharon Simmons McCrory and Arlene DeLaCruz.
He is survived at the family home by his wife, Bonnie Moorehead DeLaCruz; sons, Franklin DeLaCruz Jr. (Chandra Bryson), Greg Samuelsen and Tommy White, all both of Moclips; daughter, Dawneen DeLaCruz (Gerry Dan Jr.) of Taholah, and Leigh Ann Pudmeroff of Pacific Beach; grandchildren, Savannah Dan, James Dan, Kylie Dan, Franklin DeLaCruz III, James Black, Nathaniel Samuelsen, Alice Johnstone, Amber White, and half the village of Taholah called him “Grampa.” Surviving siblings are Edward DeLaCruz of Central Park; James DeLaCruz Sr. of Taholah, Everelda Brooks of Moclips, and Myrna Figg of Pacific Beach. Other survivors include numerous nieces, great- and great-great-nieces; nephews, great- and great-great-nephews.
The pallbearers will be Jonah Billie Sr., David McCrory, Chino Young, Donald Waugh Jr., Vernon McCrory Sr. and David Purdy.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014, at 1 p.m. at the Taholah School Gymnasium with a dinner following at the Taholah Community Center.
Direction is by the Coleman Mortuary, 422 – 5th Street in Hoquiam, Washington.
Mary Nell Farmer
Mary Nell Farmer was born on June 8, 1927, in Johnson City, Tenn., to Don Warren and Mae Dunn Warren. She lived a life of love for her family and husband, Bob Farmer.
She and Bob had four children: Kent (Bev) Farmer, Jackie (Milan) Bruner, Fran (Larry) Harrison, and she was predeceased by her son Donnie Farmer. Mary Nell and Bob lived most of their lives in the logging community of Lake Quinault, Wash.
Mary Nell passed away on Oct. 6, 2014. Her husband, Robert Kent Farmer, passed away in 1983. She had twobrothers, Max Warren and was predeceased by Ron Warren.
Mary Nell was a homemaker most of her life. After her children went to school, she became a proficient waitress and also worked at Crane Creek Shingle Mill. She was an outstanding cook and left a legacy of wonderful favorite foods for her family.
She is survived by four grandchildren: Michael (Alysha) Bruner, Melanie Farmer Florek, Bryan (Lisa) Bruner, and Michelle (Chad) Olsen. She had seven great-grandchildren: Brayton, Layne, Merryn, Mylan, MyKenzi, Jaelyn, Aubree, and Lynsey, and one great, -great-grandson, Shayde.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Cosmopolis Lion’s Club at 1 p.m. Flowers and the Mariners were Mary Nell’s passion, but with her love of Christmas and children, donations may be made to Toys for Tots in her memory. Longtime Aberdeen resident Ida Belle Heggie died at her home Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014. She was 83.

OLYMPIA — Longtime Aberdeen resident Bruce Addison Caron died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014, at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. He was 72.

Janice Sherman
Janice C. Sherman of Westport died Friday, Oct. 31, 2014, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen. She was 84.
A celebration of her life will take place at the South Beach Presbyterian Church at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16.

Wayne Alan Richey of Aberdeen died at home on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014. He was 61.

COPALIS BEACH — Donna Leeann Nisbet died at her home in Copalis Beach on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014. She was 65.

Jeffrey John Kahn of Hoquiam died at home on Monday, Nov. 10, 2014. He was 55.

Sonya Dee-Tracy Martin died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014, at home in Hoquiam. She was 35.
She was an enrolled member of the Yakama Nation.
A graveside service will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at Methodist cemetery in White Swan, Wash.

Russell Dean Allen of Tacoma died Friday, Nov. 7, 2014, while visiting in Ocean Shores. He was 58.

Laura Linnenkohl Ellis
Laura Linnenkohl Ellis, 85, longtime Aberdeen resident and former owner of Linnenkohl Furniture and Hardware in Aberdeen, died at her home on Monday, Nov. 10, 2014.
Services are pending and a full obituary will follow in The Daily World.

LeRoy Earl Senf
LeRoy Earl Senf, 81, resident of Aberdeen, Wash., passed away on Nov. 4, 2014, in Seattle, Wash., after a battle with cancer.
Mr. Senf was born on March 19, 1933, to Otto and Gladys (Hayner) Senf and was raised in Sheldon, N.D., and lived there and worked as a cattle truck driver and farmer. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1959. He served in Korea. He was discharged as an E-4. In the late 1960’s he moved to Washington and worked as a painter. He worked in various places in Washington and Oregon until settling in Aberdeen.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis, son, Michael, and parents, Otto and Gladys (Hayner)Senf. He leaves behind him four sons, Rex Taylor of Yelm, Wash., Tom Starkweather of Yelm, Dale Starkweather of Montana and Scott Senf of Yelm, nine grandchildren, many great-granchildren, a brother, Leon Senf of West Fargo, N.D., and sisters, Deloris Olson of Brooklyn Center, Minn., Lorraine Sandvig of Silverdale, Wash., and Cheryl Lindberg of Allen, Texas
There will be a time of visitation on Thursday from 1-8 p.m. in the Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen. The funeral will be at Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen on Friday, Nov. 14, 2014, at 11 a.m. Military honors will be given at the graveside following the service. Memorials can be sent to the SIDS Foundation.

Ida E. Kaplan
Longtime Aberdeen resident Ida Elizabeth Kaplan died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014, in Hoquiam. She was 90.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, at Fern Hill cemetery in Aberdeen. A celebration of her life will follow at 2:30 at 619 S. Clark St. in Aberdeen.
Harold Valentine
GRAND MOUND — Former Montesano resident Harold Valentine of Grand Mound died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, in Grand Mound. He was 80.
He had been a truck driver with Simpson logging for 15 years and Papac Logging for 20 years.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Wynooche cemetery in Montesano, followed by a memorial service at the Montesano Church of God.
Agnes Reime
Longtime Hoquiam resident, Agnes Reime, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2014, surrounded by family at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Haldis and Knut Totland, where she had been living for the past year and a half. She was 94 years old.
Agnes was born in Varhaug, Norway on Aug. 7, 1920, to Karoline and Thomas Reiestad. She married
Hans Reime in 1940 and had three children in Norway before immigrating with her family to the United States in 1952 and becoming a U.S. citizen. Agnes and Hans settled in Hoquiam, where they made their home and had two more children.
Agnes enjoyed maintaining her Norwegian heritage and was an active member of the Grays Harbor Sons of Norway Lodge, where she proudly received her pin for 60 years of membership last May. She was a loyal supporter of the Sons of Norway, lending her talents of cooking and baking for many events over the years. Agnes was also a member of the Lutheran World Relief Quilting Club for 60 years, where she made many lifelong friends and gave to the needy through her love of quilting. She was also a longtime member of the Saron Lutheran Church in Hoquiam.
Agnes is survived by her children, Haldis Totland and her husband, Knut; Karen Lynn; Hans Reime and his wife, Lynette; and Robert Reime and his wife, Stephanie. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren and numerous relatives in Norway. She was preceded in death by her son, Terry in 1960, her husband, Hans in 2009 and her son-in-law, Jerry Lynn in 2009.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saron Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 517, Hoquiam, WA 98550 or to the Grays Harbor Sons of Norway Lodge, P.O. Box 511, Hoquiam, WA 98550.
There will be viewing at the Coleman Mortuary, 422 – 5th Street, in Hoquiam from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16, 2014, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 17, 2014. A private family graveside service with vault interment will be followed by a reception at the Sons of Norway Hall, 717 Randall Street in Aberdeen at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014. All of Agnes’s friends and family are invited to come and celebrate her life.

Audrey (Hopfensperger) Morgan, AIA Emeritus.
Born Oct. 19, 1931, in Neenah Wis., died Nov. 6, 2014, in Seattle, Wash.
Audrey moved to Appleton, Wis., in 1940 and to Albany, N.Y., in 1947 where she graduated from the Milne School in 1949. She then attended the University of Washington College of Architecture (B.A. 1955), Seattle, Wash. Her architectural career began in Seattle, working for a number of firms prior to starting her consulting practice in 1983. She had projects in 27 states from coast to coast, Alaska to Florida. Over the years she developed a specialty in health care architecture; she served on the State of Washington Technical Advisory Groups to the State Building Code Council for Barrier Free Design, Non-Residential Buildings, and as Associate Member of the State Fire Marshall Group. Audrey was licensed in Washington and Oregon, and was a participant in the health care regulation process for both states; a contributor to the document “Guidelines for Construction and Equipment of Hospitals and Medical Facilities”, and co-editor of the document “Design Considerations for Mental Health Facilities”. She was a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and its Academy of Architecture for Health; also a founding member of the Pacific and Northwest Region Architecture for Health Panel. She retired in 2007.
Audrey was a member of Girl Scouts of America (GSA) for 50+ years and served Totem Council as a member of their Property-Finance Committee. When her children were growing up, she was a Girl Scout troop leader for Brownie and Cadette Scouts and a trainer of troop leaders. She also taught counselor in training (CIT) and leader in training (LIT) courses for high school Senior Scouts.
In 1990 Audrey and her partner, Prentiss Bement (deceased), moved to a home on the canal in Ocean Shores, Wash. She served on the library building committee and the Galilean Lutheran Church retreat center building committee. They enjoyed reading, playing Pinochle, swimming, beach combing, sailing, camping, and traveling across the USA in their VW camper van, visiting friends and relatives along the way. Audrey lived a full life, maintaining her independence throughout.
She is survived by her children, Diana Hansen (James), Nancy Morgan, Susan Heiner (Brian), and Michael Morgan (Joanna), all of Washington. Also survived by three grandchildren, Robin Heiner and Gregg Heiner, both of Washington, Karl Heiner (Sara) and her cherished great granddaughter, Emma, of Idaho; sisters Patricia Reis (William), Jolene Kussmann (Roger), and brother Andrew Hopfensperger (Roseanna), all of Wisconsin. Memorial services: Sunday, Nov. 16, 2014, 12:30 p.m. at St John United Lutheran Church, 5515 Phinney Ave N, Seattle, Wash., and Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014, 1 p.m. at Galilean Lutheran Church, 824 Ocean Shores Blvd NW, Ocean Shores, Wash.
