"When I became city editor in 1972, he really taught me a lot about layout and page flow. When we were running late, he always used to say, 'C'mon, son, we're sucking hind teat! We got a deadline to meet!' "

Gene Kuhn, the newspaper's present composing foreman, began work under Russell at the old World plant in 1972.

Roy Enholm, a retired member of the International Typographical Union here, worked with Russell at The World from 1959 to the mid-'70s.
