Peggy Bentley

Algia Aileen (Peggy) Bentley was a lifelong resident of Stevens County. She past away Nov. 12, 2010 from the effects of a long-term illness at the age of 77.
Peggy was born Algia Aileen Martin Oct. 7, 1933 to Thomas and Bertha Martin. She was the third of 10 children.
She went to school in Marcus, Kettle Falls and high school in Chewelah (class of 1951).
Peggy met her future husband, Clyde Bentley, on a music night at Newland’s Café. On Sept. 18, 1964 they were married
. The couple has been together for 47 years.
She was the mother of four children who meant the world to her. She loved them with all her heart and soul.
Peggy loved to dance, sew, bowl, play cards and go camping with her grandchildren.
She worked for over 20 years in the food service industry. She was also a longtime member of the Eagle’s Lodge in Colville.
She was preceded in death by one son, Baby Dean; her parents, four brothers, Frank, August, Thomas and Donald Martin; two sisters, Doreen Calvin and Betty McDermott.
Peggy is survived by her husband, Clyde Bentley, at the home; daughter Connie Anderson and husband Jerry, of Evans; J. Dan Bentley, Marcus; a daughter, Lynda Dexter and husband, Ken, Electric City; two sisters, Joan Malliat and husband Don, Othello; June Fife, Arden; one brother, Cary Martin and wife Connie, Wenatchee, four grandchildren, Tony Bentley, Harmony Reilly, Jason McPherson and Joline Foster; five great-grandchildren, Jennifer Garvin, Bekka Bentley, Piper Reilly, Roan Reilly, Josie Foster and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Peggy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be with us in spirit and in heart forever.
In accordance with her wishes there will be no funeral service.
Jim Beardslee

James 'Jim' Ray Beardslee, a lifetime resident of the Colville area, passed away on Dec. 15, 2010 at his home, with his loving wife Jude by his side. He was born on Sept. 19, 1943 in Wapato, the son of Kenneth James and Evelyn M. (Carl) Beardslee. Jim was an enrolled member of the Yakama Nation and a descendent of the Muckleshoot Tribe.
Jim moved with his family to Daisy, where they resided for a short time before relocating to Arden. He attended grade school at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Chewelah and then transferred to Colville High School, where he graduated in 1961. Jim then moved to Spokane where he earned his Barber’s license at Moler Barber College in 1962. He returned to Colville, where he worked for Don Stratton at Don’s Barber Shop.
He would later purchase Don’s and rename the business Jim’s Barber Shop. He moved the business from south Main Street to Pinkney City Mall and eventually to its current location in the Barmans Building, bringing along the much loved children’s horse barber chair. At every location, it was often the center for information and a community hub for great conversation. His love of people complimented his life work as a dedicated barber and friend to his multi-generational clientele.
Jim married
Judie M. (Young) Sinn on May 23, 1976 in Ione. Jim and Judie purchased his family’s orchard and started a shake and shingle mill on the property in the 1980s. Jim focused his attention on the new business for a time, eventually returning to the barber shop full-time. Jim approached his retirement by gradually reducing his hours until his health required full retirement in 2009 as he fought a courageous battle against cancer.
Jim loved the outdoors, especially time spent on and around the water. Jim and Judie fished year round from Twin Lakes near Inchelium to the Arrow Head and Kootenai Lakes in Canada. He enjoyed panning for gold, huckleberry picking, tying flies, and snowmobiling. He often reminisced of breaking horses with his uncles in the Yakima Valley and his work as an auxiliary officer with the Colville Police Department. His family found great support in his strong and big brotherly ways. The ever-present twinkle in his eye will be forever cherished.
Jim is survived by his wife, Judie Beardslee, at the home; mother-in-law, Marge Young, Ione; Carolyn Hern (mother of Al and Lisa), Barstow; sons, Al Beardslee and his wife, Annie, Coeur d’Alene, ID; Tim Sinn and Sylvia, Kettle Falls; daughters, Lisa Wolfe and husband, Nick, Colville; Sally Hewett and husband, Jeff, Ione; sisters, Jan Madison and husband, Joe, Deer Park; Carla Rosenoff and husband, Jack, Bellevue; brother, Fred Beardslee and Daralyn, Lewiston, ID; grandchildren, C.J., Craig, Samantha, Kelsey, Lacey, Katie, Jackie, Jake, Max, Samie, Sarah, Shada, Brian and Cameron; great-granddaughter Kendall; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service to say, 'We love you Jim and miss you, ' will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011 at the Ag-Trade Center in Colville. Pastor Tony Pinkham will officiate.

Billy C. (Bill) Gazzaway

Billy Gazzaway passed away in Spokane on December 15, 2010 at the age of 63. He was born April 2, 1947 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Bill and Evelyn Gazzaway.
Bill moved to Washington in 1969 and married
Jo Ann Moe-Olson on June 13th, 1969.
Bill worked at Boise Cascade for 20 years then at Northwest Alloys for 20 years where he was nicknamed the gentle giant. Bill’s greatest love were his family, going fishing, camping and his log home.
Bill was preceded in death by is parents and brothers LeRoy and Ronnie Gazzaway.
He is survived by his wife Jo Ann Gazzaway; his daughter Josie Jensen & Bruce; sons Jim Olson & Jacqueline, Joe Gazzaway & Kate, Jake Gazzaway & Debbie; his sisters Wanda, Sandra, & Joleen, and his brother Ken Gazzaway. Grandchildren: Joshua Olson & Melissa, Chas Perigo, Shafiea & Erica Jensen, Shailey Maupin, Jordan, Justyce & Jalen Olson, Kiersten, Morgan, Justin & Dillon Gazzaway. Great grandchildren: Jayla & Reyna Olson, Deklen & Rori Perigo & Braden Jensen. His best friend Ray Lawrence and special friend Julius Haas.
At Bill’s request there will be no services.
Elizabeth Romine

Elizabeth Ann Romine, a 20-year resident of Colville, entered into rest on Dec. 14, 2010 in Colville at the age of 68. She was born on Nov. 16, 1942 in Grants, New Mexico, the daughter of Ernest Cecil and Emma Elizabeth (Bearden) Myers.
Ann moved with her family as a young girl and lived in New Mexico and Idaho before settling in Winthrop as a teenager. She graduated from Omak High School in 1961. She met the love of her life Paul Romine, through mutual friends, and the couple was married
on Jan. 5, 1963 in Omak.
Paul was in the U.S. Navy, so Ann moved to Long Beach, CA with Paul, and managed a 40-unit apartment complex while Paul was at sea. After the Navy, they moved to Walla Walla, where Ann finished her degree in cosmetology. They then moved to Omak and Ann worked for a short time in a beauty salon. Once she started a family, she stayed home to take care of her family. Ann was a foster parent for many years, and at one point had 100 foster children come through her home in three years. She moved to Colville in 1990, where she enjoyed living in her cozy home with a view of White Mud Lake.
Ann was gifted with making crafts, and loved turning antiques things such as jars and silverware into home decorations. She never took classes in interior decoration, but her natural eye for fashion was expressed in her lovely handiwork around the home. Ann also enjoyed reading, and enjoyed reading true crime stories and especially books by Ann Rule. Most of all, Ann loved spending time with her family and friends in her church group. She was very loving and kind, and many will miss her friendship.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, by her brother, Earl Myers in 2008, and by two nephews.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 48 years, Paul Romine, Colville; her daughter, Elizabeth 'Lisa' Paparazzo and husband, Roger, Spokane; her son, Troy Romine and wife, Wendy, Woodinville; her three grandchildren, Reese, Kaden and Jaxton Romine, Woodinville; her sister, Nyla Raab, Spokane; her brother, Boone Myers and wife Rhea, Pahrump, NV; her brother-in-law, Dewayne Romine and wife Rita, Omak; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The memorial service for Elizabeth Ann Romine will be held at a later date in the spring. The private burial was held at the Mountain View Park cemetery in Colville.

Ellis J. 'Corky' Shrock

Ellis J. Shrock, 83, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Dec. 16, 2010. Ellis was born in Wapato on Sept. 4, 1927 to Jacob and Rhoda Shrock. He had one brother and six sisters.
He graduated from Wapato High School in 1945. Ellis joined the Army shortly after. He was stationed at Camp Stoneman, California.
On March 4, 1960, Ellis married
his soulmate, Winona Dickinson. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. They moved to Colville in 1971 from the Tri-Cities. Ellis worked for Colmac Industries as a line technician until retirement in the early 1990’s.
He enjoyed farming for many years. Ellis was an Elder in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
In 1996 Ellis and Winona moved back to the Tri-Cities area.
Ellis is survived by his loving wife, Winona; by three children, Cheryl (Earl), Jim (Dawn), and Jana (Wayne); six grandchildren, Ryan (Ashley), Darci (Nick), Jacob, Tyler, LeAnna Winona Ellis and Max; and four great-grandchildren, Keoni, Kalani, Isabel and Malayna.
Ellis 'Corky' Shrock lived a wonderful life and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Funeral service was held Dec. 21, 2010 at Mueller’s Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 South Union Street, Kennewick, with burial at Desert Lawn Memorial Park.
Ashley Crawford

Ashley Lynn Crawford, 25, passed away Jan. 19, 2011 at her home in Colville. She was born August 14, 1985 in Colville to Alan Crawford and Bonnie Brannock.
Ashley attended Colville schools until she moved to Kettle Falls, where she graduated from Kettle Falls High School in 2003. She enjoyed playing softball and was involved with the Children’s Theater, acting in the play, The Secret Garden.
Ashley loved to create floral arrangements and worked for Main Street Floral, which broadened her artistic ability. In 2007, she was blessed with becoming a mother, a title she cherished dearly. She became a mother again in 2008.
Ashley had a great love for music - all kinds from easy listening, to heavy metal and everything in between. She enjoyed reading poetry and has written many poems of her own. Ashley liked to play in the snow as long as she was on a snowmobile, cruising around the back country and enjoying the beauty of the outdoors. She was an excellent cook and would watch cooking shows to learn new ways to cook.
Ashley was looking forward to attending culinary arts school in the future. Her greatest love was to spend time with and caring for her two young boys.
Ashley was a welcoming friend to everyone she met. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Ashley is survived by her fiancée, Michael George, and their two sons, Phoenix and Marley George, Colville; mother, Bonnie Brannock and her husband, John, Kettle Falls; father, Alan Crawford and his significant other, Rita Hill, Colville, brother Tommy Graham, Arden, a sister, Christine Graham, Medical Lake, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles; and godfather, Les Curtis.
There will be a memorial service in the spring.

Dorothy Baumann

Dorothy Gertrude Baumann, a longtime resident of Colville, passed away on Jan. 18, 2011 in Colville at the age of 87. She was born on March 17, 1923 in West Bend, WI, the daughter of Henry M. and Theresa (Melder) Peters.
Raised in West Bend, Dorothy attended school and graduated from high school there. She attended classes at St. Agnes School of Nursing in Fond du Lac, WI and received her degree as a Registered Nurse. Dorothy fell in love with Norbert W. Baumann and they were married
on Nov. 14, 1945 at the Holy Angels Church in West Bend.
They owned/operated a dairy farm near Halder, Wisconsin for 16 years before they moved west and settled in Walla Walla. Dorothy worked for St. Mary’s Hospital in Walla Walla and received specialized training in coronary and intensive care. She moved to Colville in 1970 and worked at Mt. Carmel Hospital until her retirement in 1983.
Dorothy loved her work as a nurse so much that she kept up on health issues as a hobby. She loved the outdoors, especially working in her beautiful garden and flower beds. Dorothy was talented with her hands and knitted her family mittens, scarves and caps. She also crocheted many large afghans for all of her children and grandchildren. Dorothy loved her family with all of her heart, and she will be deeply missed.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Norbert in 2002; by her parents, and her siblings Raymond, Marie, Genevieve and Edmond.
She is survived by seven sons: Tom (Sue) Baumann, Gene Baumann, Jerome Baumann, James Bauman, all of Walla Walla; Bob (Kathy) Baumann, Weston, OR; Fran (Mary) Baumann, Chewelah; Norb (Trudy) Baumann, Colville; WA, three daughters: Carol (Frank) Noal, Germaine (Steve) Brown of Walla Walla, Barb Kinman, Puyallup; her siblings. Donald (Harriet) Peters, Lillian (Tony) Ritger, Al (Edna) Peters, Francis (Rita) Peters, and Henrietta (Joe) Schnitzler all of Wisconsin, as well as 31 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Dorothy Baumann will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 29 at the Grace Evangelical Free Church in Colville. The graveside service will follow at Mountain View Park cemetery in Colville.
Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Spokane, 121 S. Arthur, Spokane, WA 99202, or the Coronary and Intensive Care Unit at the Providence Mt. Carmel Hospital in Colville.

Irma Beusan

Irma Dallman-Beusan died in the early morning hours, Tuesday, Jan. 4 at Providence Mount Carmel Hospital, after years of fighting emphysema.
She leaves behind four children: Larry, Spokane; Steve/Lea, Colville; Ken, Kettle Falls; Kevin/Lisa, Colville; seven grandchildren, Rachel Tinney, Portland; Casey and Arden, Kettle Falls; Travis and Tyler, Spokane; Katie and Kallie, Colville and two great-grandchildren, Sawyer Arden and Makenna Grace, both of Spokane.
Irma was born Feb. 11, 1940 to William and Jo Ella (Fate) Carroll at Mount Carmel Hospital.
Irma loved bingo, Scrabble and being outdoors, picking mushrooms and asparagus.
Irma was preceded in death by Arden Dallman, Ralph Beusan; a brother, Bill Carroll; and sisters, Bernice Goens and Florence McNeil.
Sandy Ayars

Sandra June Ayars of Spokane passed away Jan. 14 after a courageous battle with cancer. Sandy was born in Renton on June 30, 1952, the oldest of 10 children, to George and Laura Hastings.
After spending most of her childhood in Kent, Sandy graduated from Colville High School in 1970. She then attended Spokane Falls Community College, where she met Albert Lee Ayars, Jr., her husband of 33 years.
Sandy was a talented graphic and fine artist whose career spanned many years. She worked for agencies and clients throughout the Spokane area.
Her times at Spirit and Priest Lakes inspired many of her paintings. She was a devoted and loving mother.
Sandy is survived by her husband, Lee, her son Albert; her parents; sisters, Kathy Ayers, Janet Nelson, Nancy Sliman, Patty McClean and brothers, Ben, Gary, Marty, Dan and Ron Hastings, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate Sandy’s life will be announced in the future.
