Sarah Dollinger
December 7, 1916 - March 12, 2010
Sarah Dollinger, an 8 year resident of Inchelium, WA passed away on March 12, 2010 in Colville, WA at the age of 93. Sarah was born on December 7, 1916 in Lehr, ND the daughter of Antone and Margaretha (Kluck) Diede.
She was raised in Lehr, ND where she also attended school. At the age of 17, Sarah moved to Lodi, CA. While in Lodi, she met Arthur Dollinger. They were married
on Sept. 12, 1934 and made their home in Lodi, CA. Arthur would purchase bare ground where he would build a home and working farm. He would then sell the property and start in a new location. His occupation required and progression of moves beginning in Lodi, CA and then moving the family to Escalon, Waterford, Livingston, Denair, CA, and after many years to Ceres, CA where they began enjoying retirement. Sarah worked in the home raising their four daughters, Marylin, Marjorie, Myrna and Shirley. Sarah also assisted on the farms as needed. Sarah and Arthur moved to Camas, WA in 1988. In 1990, Arthur passed away. Sarah stayed in Camas until 2003 and then moved to Inchelium, WA where she could be closer to family.
Sarah loved to travel, especially with her family as they migrated south in the winter. She was also very devoted to her Seventh Day Adventist faith and dearly loved her church family. She commissioned the lovely painting you see in the baptisimal and wanted everyone to enjoy it as much as she did. She loved her family and they will cherish her sweet nature and wonderful sense of humor. She always opened her home and heart to new friends and friendly acquaintances. Sarah was one who always planned ahead and took great pride in keeping a neat and clean home. She truly was gifted with a wonderful gift of hospitality. Sarah was blessed with good health and able to maintain a wonderful level of independence throughout her golden years. 'Grandma Sarah' will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, 12 siblings and her parents.
She is survived by her four daughters: Marilyn Wood and her husband, Fred of Inchelium, WA, Marjorie Reimann and her husband, Roger of Inchelium, WA, Myrna Mitchell and her husband, Earl of Spokane, WA, Shirley Beatty and her husband, Gene of Petaluma, CA; fourteen grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 20, 2010 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Inchelium, WA. BERNICE STRONG
December 30, 1935 - March 11, 2010
Tommy Roger Strong Sr. was born July 15, 1932 in Coeburn VA. to John and Mary Strong. Bernice Moore Strong was born Dec. 30, 1935 in Norton Va. to Ray and Lillian Moore. The two were married
Nov. 28, 1952. Bernice passed away March 11, 2010 and Tommy passed March 13, 2010.
Tom spent time in the military and served in the Korean War. He also worked as a welder for many years and later in his life did various odd jobs.
Bernice spent most of her time raising her children. She loved to sew and made many beautiful quilts.
Tom and Bernice loved to go camping and spent many hours with their children at different lakes around the country. They both enjoyed music and loved to dance.
During the last couple of years both Tom and Bernice suffered from many aliments, but through it all their love for one another shone brightly. Their love withstood the test of time and only grew stronger as time passed. They leave a legacy behind that will keep them alive forever.
They are preceded in death by: both of their parents, a daughter, Jacqueline Parker, a son, Eric Strong and two grandchildren, Troy Anderson and Wesley Tolliver.
They are survived by nine children: Nancy (Earl) Bunts of Cortland, OH. Vivian (Max) Burkhart of Colville, WA., Tommy (Judy) Strong of Canfield, OH., Donna Strong of Colville, WA., Ranae Anderson of Spokane Valley, WA., Sharon Tolliver of Colville WA., Rebecca (Enrico) Laurino of Valhalla, NY., Brian Strong of Chewelah, WA. and Karen (Jeff) Friend of Colville, WA. 26 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

DUSTIN D. ELDRED
July 23, 1984 - March 7, 2010
Dustin Eldred, 25, passed away tragically in a car accident near Kettle Falls on March 7, 2010. He was born on July 23, 1984 in Colfax, Washington to Frank and Linda (Hoffman) Eldred. Dustin was raised most of his life in the Colville and Kettle Falls area. Dustin was the kind of person that put everyone else’s needs before his own and will always be remembered for his smile. One of his favorite pastimes was playing video games, whether it was an X-Box, WII, or Play Station 3, he was "one of the best". He was also known as "Uncle Dustin" to Brooklynn Rose. He loved teasing and playing with her, and "Uncle Dustin" could make her laugh like no other. Dustin had a talent for tinkering with cars and loved helping his friends and family with their cars. He also enjoyed getting outdoors and hunting with his Dad and brother. In Dustin’s short time with us, he lived his life to its fullest and had a heart of gold. Dustin was loved by so many and will be missed by his family and friends.
Dustin is survived by his parents, Frank and Linda Eldred of Colville; his brother David Eldred of Colville; his sister Melissa Eldred and her fiancé Cody Snyder of Colville; a niece Brooklynn Rose Snyder; and his many friends.
A visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m., Thursday, March 11 at the Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville, Washington. Cremation will follow at Danekas Crematory in Colville, Washington. The Danekas Funeral Chapel & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.
Jim Patterson
March 30, 1939 - March 6, 2010
Jim Patterson born March 30, 1939 and died March 6, 2010, he is and always will be greatly missed.
Our father was born in San Francisco, Califorina. From the time he was a kid until the day he died, he made sure that everyday there were no missed opportunities. Our Dad always had his ups & downs with family and friends but he loved everyone in his own special way, and somewhere under it all he had a heart big enough for the whole world. Our father touched many lifes and lived a full life of laughter, love, and termoil, but he always lived life to the fullest. We are all so thankful for the times we shared & the laughs we had together. We will cherish the memories in my heart forever...

PANSY MADELYN BAKER
May 25, 1935 - March 4, 2010
Pansy M. Baker, 74, of Davenport, WA passed away on March 4, 2010 in Chewelah. Pansy was born in Ford, WA on May 25, 1935 to Earl and Florence (Martzall) Lyons. She grew up in Ford, WA where she attended school at the Ford School house. On Dec. 11, 1952, Pansy married
Eldon Baker in Coeur d’Alene, ID. Together they resided in Ford where she worked at home tending to the needs of her growing family. Pansy and Eldon eventually parted ways. Pansy continued to reside in the Stevens County area. She worked at Freddies Café for several years and then became a caregiver which she loved.
Pansy has lived in Davenport for the past 10 years with her companion, Jim Swiger. Pansy had a fiesty character with non-stop energy. Her children fondly remember her coaxing them to speed up to keep up with her. Pansy enjoyed her eclectic collection of salt and pepper shakers and embroidering.
She had a big heart and provided a needed haven to the occasional wayward soul. She also enjoyed the company of her favorite cockatiels and dog. Pansy was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Pansy was preceded in death by nine siblings and her son Michael.
She is survived by her children; Martha Miller (John), Colville, Junior Baker (Nancy), Boyds, Kenny Baker (Julie), Spokane, Terry Baker, Wenatchee, Nancy Mather (Wade), Chewelah, Dennis Baker (Carrie), Springdale, Chris Laughter (Stephanie), Chewelah, John Laughter, Hoquiam, twenty grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, sister, Lila Buck, Kelso, companion, Jim Swiger, Davenport, a special Lil’ sis, Mary Spencer, many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10, at Danekas Funeral Chapel, Colville. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 11, at 11:00 at Pleasant View cemetery (Happy Hill) Ford, WA with a potluck to follow. HOWARD JACKSON BASS
April 22, 1942 - March 4, 2010
Howard Jackson Bass, Jr., a 21 year resident of Springdale, WA passed away on March 4, 2010 in Spokane, WA. Howard was born on April 22, 1941 in Bellingham, WA the son of Howard Jackson and Barbara Joyce (Corder) Bass.
Howard was raised in the Bellingham, WA area where he attended school and graduated from Bellingham High School in 1959. He was an excellent athlete and exceptional football player. After high school, Howard attended Western Washington University and continued to play football. His love for the game carried him into the semi-pro football league where he played for seven years. Howard was a resident of Bellingham and worked for Intelco for 21 years. During this time he was able to spend time with his five children from his first marriage. He moved to North Eastern Washington in the late 1980’s. Howard purchased a home in near Springdale, WA in 1989. While he was working on the heavy equipment at the Northwest Alloys plant, he met Carolyn Smithson. They were wed on June 22, 1991 in Springdale, WA. Howard had often dreamed of living in Alaska and in 1996 he found the opportunity to work in Anchorage, AK using his welding and knowledge of heavy equipment. Carolyn resided with Howard during his Alaskan adventure. Due to his declining physical health, Howard and Carolyn returned home to Springdale, WA in 1999. They have resided in Springdale since that time.
Howard loved to travel with Carolyn. He also enjoyed the fact that his parents often traveled with them. He was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for fishing and hunting. Howard was very active in the Boy Scouts of America and embraced the memories made camping and hiking with the various troops. He was a man with great pride for his country, a love of Christ, and a gentleman’s character. Howard had a wonderful outlook on life, contagious laugh and radiant smile.
He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.
Howard is survived by his wife, Carolyn Bass, at the home; mother, Barbara Bass of Spokane, WA; sister Virginia Strachila and her husband, Bob of Acme, WA; brother, Ken Bass of Arcadia, OK, five children, Cathy, Michelle, Dawn, Dan and Greg Bass, and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Mr. Howard J. Bass, Jr., will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 13, 2010 at the Springdale Community Church in Springdale, WA. Memorial contributions may be given to the Springdale Community Church, 420 N. Main, Springdale, WA 99173.

Marleen Kay McGuire
December 22, 1954 - February 27, 2010
Marleen Kay McGuire, a resident of Valley, WA passed away on February 27, 2010 in Valley at the age of 55. She was born on December 22, 1954 in Sacramento, CA the daughter of William and Julie McGuire.
Marleen was raised in California and joined the United States Air Force shortly after graduating from high school. She was a boom operator on a KC-135 and worked her way to Tech Sergeant while serving in Okinawa, Japan. She spent her last couple of years at Fairchild Air Force Base before retiring in 1998. Marleen especially loved her animals, whether dogs, cats or even more recently her sheep and goats. Her loving and caring personality touched all of her family.
Marleen is survived by her sister Sharon Harms (Ben) of Valley, WA and her brother Mark McGuire of Bend, OR.
RAYMOND ALBERT ERDMAN
September 1, 1929 - February 25, 2010
Raymond A. Erdman, a longtime resident of Valley, WA passed away on February 25, 2010 in Spokane, WA at the age of 80. He was born on September 1, 1929 in Lind, WA the son of Fred and Elsie (Sauer) Erdman.
Ray moved to Valley in 1937 with his family where he attended school. He started courting Wanda Williams in 1947, and they were married
in Spokane on September 14, 1957. He worked for Morlan Tire in Spokane until 1962 when he moved back to Valley. Ray worked for a few years at the Magnasite Plant for Ernie Smith. He then took a job at North American Marble in Chewelah where he was the plant supervisor until 1979 when he retired. During retirement, Ray and Wanda enjoyed traveling and attending local fairs. Ray also became very popular with friends, family and neighbors for volunteering his time to repair all things mechanical.
Ray loved to spend time outdoors picking morel mushrooms, huckleberries, rock hounding, or searching old homesteads for bottles and other collectables. He always helped Wanda maintain the most beautiful garden in Valley. Ray will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda in 2008 and four siblings: Helen Carr, Harry Erdman, Willy Erdman and Rubin Erdman. He is survived by his son, Dennis Erdman and his wife Danna of Syracuse, UT; his daughter Connie Murphy and her husband John of Spokane, WA; his 4 grandchildren, Dennis Erdman Jr., Danielle Rasmussen, Danielle Murphy and Aaron Rux; 2 great grandchildren Dylan Darcey and Colton Darcey; his brothers Mervin Erdman, James Erdman, Les Erdman and Gerald Erdman and sisters; Judy Ely, Betty Christenson and Evelyn Wagner.
GLADYS SYLVIA YARNELL
July 17, 1914 - February 16, 2010
Gladys S. Yarnell, a 25-year resident of Hunters, WA passed away on Feb. 16, 2010 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chewelah, WA. She was born on July 17, 1914 in Vancouver, B.C. the daughter of Arthur M. and Nora C. (Nelson) Higgins.
Gladys was raised and attended school in the Seattle area and graduated from Lincoln High School. She married
Daniel V. Turner in Seattle. In 1943 they moved to Kenmore, WA where they raised their family. Gladys worked at various places of employment during her life. Her last job was for the Northshore School District.
Daniel preceded Gladys in death on Dec. 2, 1974. Gladys retired in 1976 and moved to Startup, WA where she married
Clarence Yarnell in 1980. They later moved to Hunters, WA where they built 'by hand' their log home. They have resided together in Hunters since that time. Gladys was active in the Cedonia Community Church and Grange. She and Clarence loved to square dance and play pinochle with their friends. They traveled to Hawaii, backpacked in Alaska, and kayaked in Mexico. They also traveled to Maine to see Gladys’ sister Ruby and to California to see Gladys’ brother Victor. Gladys was always very active and young at heart. She left little-to-question when it came to discipline and her expectations. She loved her family, especially all the grandchildren. One of her hobbies was to crochet blankets for her grandchildren, which will be forever cherished.
Gladys is survived by her husband Clarence; brother Victor Higgins of McKinleyville, California; sons Jack and wife Edie of Ephrata, WA; Bill and wife Pat of Long Beach, WA; 7 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; step-sons Dennis Yarnell and wife Theresa of Addy, WA; and Ron Yarnell of Fairbanks, AK; 3 step-grandchildren and 9 step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Daniel; brother Norman Higgins; sister Ruby Higgins Couden; and great grandson Jeremy Firestone.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22, 2010 at the Floral Hills cemetery in Lynnwood, WA followed by a memorial service at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010 at the Cedonia Community Church in Cedonia, WA. Memorial contributions may be given to the Cedonia Community Church.

John W. Kluckner
October 7, 1925 - February 15, 2010
John W. Kluckner passed away on February 15, 2010 in Chewelah, WA at the age of 84. He was born on October 7, 1925, the son of Frank and Maggie Meyers and the family homestead in Longdale, OK.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his 4 siblings and his two sons, Vic Kluckner and Rick Kluckner, both of Chewelah.
He is survived by his wife Lois Kluckner of Chewelah; his son Ronald Kluckner of Valley; his 2 grandchildren Josh of Chewelah and Jennifer of Bloomington, MN; his 3 step-sons Rick, Terry and Jody Gibson and their families; his one niece, two nephews and their families, all of Oklahoma.
John was a WWII veteran and served in the European Theatre. He worked for Boeing and retired in 1983, but was a farmer all of his life. He especially loved spending time outdoors, whether farming, fishing, hunting or just spending time in the wilderness to enjoy its beauty. In his later years, John loved to spend time at the Chewelah Casino. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
The private family graveside service was held at the Pioneer cemetery in Chewelah, WA.
