Kenneth Huguenin
05/02/1925 - 10/04/2010
Kenneth Huguenin, a lifelong resident of the Colville area passed away on October 4, 2010 at the age of 85. He was born May 2, 1925 in Arden, WA, the last of 6 children born to Ed and Georgia Huguenin.
Throughout his life, he loved farming and being around animals, and always had a favorite dog and horse near at hand. His last dog, Eva, grieves with the rest of us.
To friends and family of all generations, Kenneth was known affectionately as ‘Unc’. His warm and friendly manner collected long term friendships everywhere he went. He loved to tell and hear good jokes (the bluer the better), and the twinkle in his blue eyes and infectious laughter were two of his defining characteristics. Another was his colorful vocabulary; sometimes shocking to strangers, but completely without harmful intent.
Kenneth worked as a logger and farmer all his life, frequently teaming up with brothers and his nephew Eddie Cox. They used draft horses for skidding long after motorized jammers and skidders took over most other operations. He drove his own logging truck.
Haying and harvesting were labor intensive and light on machinery. Teams of family and neighbors would move from farm to farm with the men working in the fields and the women preparing a huge midday harvest dinner. Kenneth was an important member of these work groups; and he was always an enthusiastic (and hardy) eater. No one loved home cooked food more than Unc, even after he retired from heavy physical labor. He fed and watered, by hand, a small herd of cattle into his 80’s.
Kenneth is survived by his sister, Katie Berg, and his loving partner, Darlene Wells and her daughters, Carlene and Candy. He was preceded in death by 4 siblings, Elsie Burse, Tykie Painter, Johnnie Huguenin and Frankie Huguenin.
He will be missed by 5 generations of family, who recognize the unique place that he filled in our lives; Unc was truly a wonderful and once-in-a lifetime character, and his influence has enriched our lives and made us all better people.
