Vernon Tooley, Jr.
Vernon 'Vern' Chester Tooley, Jr., a 27 year resident of Kettle Falls, WA passed away on July 7, 2007 at the age of 87.
He was born on August 17, 1919 in Aurora, Illinois to Vernon and Isadora (Reynolds) Tooley.
Vern was raised in Illinois where he attended and graduated from the Broadview Academy.
Vern then joined the Army as a medic and worked with surgeons or by himself caring for wounded soldiers.
He spent his time on a ship and served on seven tours to England, France and Italy, and one tour to the Philippines.
After his honorable discharge on January 2, 1947, Vern began classes in basic accounting at the San Jose State Night School in San Jose, CA.
He then continued his education at the Advanced Accounting School in Chicago, IL.
Vern then went to work for Pacific Press as the foreman in shipping and receiving.
Vern began his career as a manager and assistant manager for the Book and Bible House in Central California, the Texaco Conference and Nebraska.
He later worked as the assistant manager and associate manager of the Book Department Review and Herald Publication Association in Maryland.
Vern then moved to Oregon and he worked as an accountant for the Arden Danielson Company and Larry Smith Gasket Company.
Vern loved to spend time outdoors fishing and playing golf.
He especially loved music, whether he was singing or playing the trumpet.
Vern was good with his hands and liked to tinker and work on things in his very organized shop.
He loved to play many kinds of games and had a great sense of humor.
He was a very empathetic man and cared for his wife very much.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Muriel Tooley, Colville; sons, Vernon Charles Tooley III, Williamsport, MD, Dale Tooley, Martinsburg, WV; daughters, Moriah Savage, Florida, Gail Muriett, Henderson, MD; 4 step-children, 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
A memorial service for Vern Tooley will be at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, July 22, 2007 at the Kettle Falls Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Pastor Ken LeBrun will officiate and Military Honors will be present.

Marie Yates
Our beloved Marie Hotchkiss Yates passed away Jan. 6, 2008 in Spokane following a yearlong illness.
Marie was born October 7, 1922 to Clifford W. and Elsie Hotchkiss of Colville.
She was the youngest of seven children, growing up on the family farm and attending a one-room schoolhouse for the first eight years of her education before attending Colville High School.
Marie graduated in 1940 and began her employment as a receptionist for the Associated Doctors clinic in Colville.
They were busy offices, with many, many patients.
It was said that Marie knew more people from Stevens, Ferry, and Pend Oreille Counties than anyone around.
She worked for 15 years before marrying in 1955 and beginning her family two years later.
In 1968, Marie was remarried
to Herbert Yates of Spokane, where she resided the remainder of her life.
Marie was a committed, active, volunteer and a friend to all.
Her favorite causes involved young people and law enforcement organizations.
She gave her time to the Women of the Water Power, Regina Hall Auxiliary (halfway house for girls), Lilac Chapter of Sweet Adelines, Police Advisory Committee, COPS S.E. Neighborhood COPS Shop, Spokane Police Dept. Citizens Review Committee and various other organizations.
Marie received several awards for commitment to helping others.
In 1997, she received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Colville High School.
She was awarded the City of Spokane Citizenship Award in 2001, and in 2005 she received the Spokane COPS Shop Bob Hooper Memorial Award for Outstanding Service.
Marie is survived by her daughter, Sheri Bayley Kever and husband Kevin, Puyallup; son Douglas James Bayley and wife Debbie of Spokane; stepsons Karl and Keith Yates and their wives, Kay and Barbara, Spokane; sister Gladys Stewart of Colville; sister-in-law Lucile Hotchkiss of Proctor; eight grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marie will be remembered for her loving, caring heart, her dedication to friends and family, her sense of humor and her zest for life.
Services will be held at Manito Presbyterian Church, 401 E 30th, Spokane on Jan. 14 at 1 p.m.

Gail Delacruz
Gail Marie Delacruz, 48, passed away on Jan. 2, 2008.
She was born in Aberdeen on Dec. 23, 1959 to Dorothy and Joseph Delacruz.
Gail is an enrolled member of the Colville Confederated Tribe.
She is also part of the Quinault Indian Nation from her father’s side.
Gail attended Tahola Elementary School, North Beach High School and completed her last three years at Inchelium High School, where she received her high school diploma.
Gail received her AA degree at Evergreen State College and went on in Washington State University to continue her education.
She also attended Olympia Technical School.
Her main educational field of interest was Accounting and Business Administration.
Gail worked for the Quinault Tribal Enterprises as head accountant for nine years and then moved to Inchelium, to work for the Colville Tribe as Benefits Coordinator in 1994.
She eventually accepted the position as Colville Tribes Risk Manager.
Gail was elected to the Colville Tribal Business Council in 2004, and was re-elected in 2006.
She was a Colville Tribal council-person to the day of her passing.
Gail’s hobbies throughout her life begin with softball and all other sports, coaching Little League and Babe Ruth baseball, camping, hunting, fishing, pool, horseshoes, beading, Tribal business and taking care of family, grandchildren, her nieces and nephews.
Gail always opened her home to any family and friend that needed a home.
Gail was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Burton Delacruz, and by her grandmother, Mary (Quintasket) and Earl Lemery.
She is survived by her soul-mate, Kimbo Swan; her sons, Anthony and Gilbert Seymour; her mother, Dorothy Delacruz; her sisters, Lisa Kyle and Tina Delacruz; her brothers, Joe and Steve Delacruz; five grandchildren, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other extended family.
The Rosary for Gail Delacruz was held, Jan. 7 at the Inchelium Community Center, with the Funeral Mass following.
Burial service followed at the Inchelium Hall Creek cemetery and dinner at the Inchelium Community Center.

MARK TYLER
Mark H. Tyler, a 20-year resident of Kettle Falls, passed away on Jan. 5, 2008 after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage three days earlier.
Mark was born on March 11, 1950 in Port Arthur, TX, the son of Cecil and Bonnie Tyler.
Mark spent his youth in Texas and Florida, graduating from Pompano Beach High School in 1969.
In his younger years, he worked as a meat cutter and carpenter in Florida and California.
In 1976 he moved to Kettle Falls where he met Jodi Prather.
They became life partners and were married
in 1990.
Mark continued to work as a carpenter, both as an independent contractor and more recently working for Fosback Construction for the last 13 years.
Mark was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt.
He had a great sense of humor and no one was a stranger in his presence.
He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Mark is survived by his wife, Jodi Prather, at the family home; a son, Mark Jameson and wife, Sandra ; his brothers, Phil Tyler and wife, Jan, Lower Lake, CA; Ross Tyler and wife, Terry, Kettle Falls; Steve Tyler, Lehigh, FL; granddaughters, Megan and Ava; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 12 at the Danekas Funeral Chapel, with a potluck to follow at the Kettle Falls American Legion Hall.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Myra Vanderbol
Myra Ann Bliss Vanderbol passed away on Jan. 4, 2008 in Colville following a lengthy illness.
She was the oldest of seven children born to Margaret and Myron Bliss on Sept. 27, 1927 in Gooding, Idaho.
Myra was raised in Gooding and graduated from Gooding High School at the age of 16.
She attended nursing school in Portland for a time before marrying John Vanderbol on Sept. 29, 1946 in Gooding.
They and their young daughter, Judy, moved to a farm near Daisy in 1951.
She was active in the Stranger Creek Grange and the Queen Esther Rebekah Lodge at Rice and also worked with her husband, who was the Postmaster of Daisy.
In 1982, they moved into Colville, where Myra has made her home ever since.
Myra volunteered at Mount Carmel Hospital Emergency room six evenings a week for 14 years as a member of the Hospital Auxiliary.
Myra’s creed was best expressed in the following verse: 'Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming 'wow' what a ride!!'
Myra is survived by her daughter, Judy Estep and husband, John, Colville; her granddaughter, Ann Estep, Spokane; her sisters, Donna Scheibe and husband Fred, Walla Walla; Carol Hayes, Gooding; Coral Clemons and husband, Duane, Gooding; her brothers, Vern Bliss and wife, MaryJane, Evanston, WY; Dale Bliss, Poulsbo; Jim Bliss and wife, Judy, Scottsdale, AZ.
Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 10 at the Colville United Methodist Church with Reverend Eric Ordman officiating.
Memorials may be made to either the Mount Carmel Hospital Auxiliary or to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Colville.
Cremation preceded the memorial service at the Danekas Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
