Sammie Clifford Davis

Sammie Clifford Davis, 72, of Northport passed away Oct. 1, 2004 at his home.

Davis was the son of John Clifford Davis and Viola Augusta (Babe) Sullivan.

He was born April 20, 1932 in Byers, Texas.

Memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 9 at the Marble Community Fellowship.

The service will begin at 1 p.m. with Pastor Jim Buck officiating.

Davis was preceded in death by a sister, Imogene Bartholomew.

In 1952, Davis married Angelea Cunningham at Ellington Air Force Base, Houston, TX.

Davis was a country-western swing musician for much of his life.

He performed with many celebrities like Glen Campbell, Patsy Cline, Conway Twitty and Bobby and Larry Black, to name a few.

In the early 1960s, he performed regularly on KTVU Channel 2 with Black Jack Wayne.

His stage name was Sammie Clifford.

Locally, Sammie was the first Quadra-Fire stove sales representative.

His hobbies included music, volunteering at the Spokane Healing Rooms and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Angelea Davis; sisters Patsy Marie Morrell and Sandra Gray Fairman; three daughters, Debora Davis Hawkins, Julie Marie Davis and Kelly Wickey; two sons, James Clifford Davis and Robert Joseph Davis; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Marie Scharf

Marie Scharf, a two year resident of Colville, passed away on Dec. 8, 2004, at the age of 82.

She was born on Feb. 5, 1922 in Blue Mountain, Arkansas, the daughter of Matt and Ethel Anderson.

At her request, no funeral service will be held.

Mrs. Scharf was raised and schooled in the Blue Mountain area, and graduated from high school in Booneville, Ark.

She took some college courses at Russelville, Ark., Chico State University (California).

In 1952, she married Bill Scharf in Reno, NV.

Shortly after their marriage, the couple moved to Petaluma, CA, and lived there for nearly 20 years.

While in Petaluma, Mrs. Scharf worked in the medical field as a nurse and as a supervisor in medical records.

She moved from Petaluma to Oroville, CA and opened an art gallery called The Thumbnail Sketch, which she owned and operated eight years.

She sold her own paintings and the work of other artists, art supplies, and had numerous art classes taught there by a variety of artists.

Her greatest joy in life was found in her family and her love for painting.

She is survived by her sons, Bob Scharf and his wife Lynda, Colville; Nicholas Scharf and his wife Jenny, San Francisco; a brother, Holly Anderson, northern Georgia.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

David Wiks Jr.

David L. Wiks, Jr. passed away July 23, 2004 at Spokane Veterans Hospital.

Mr. Wiks was born on Nov. 1, 1939, in Coeur d'Alene, ID, the son of David and Doris (Kerr) Wiks, Sr.

Graveside service for David Wiks, Jr. will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 29, at the Meyers Falls cemetery in Kettle Falls.

During his childhood, the family moved to various parts of Idaho, and in 1954 settled in Marcus.

He graduated from Kettle Falls High School in 1957, attended Eastern Washington State College for a time, then entered the U.S. Army, and was a member of the Army Band.

Upon discharge, Mr. Wiks attended Washington State University and received his Bachelor's degree.

He was employed by Long Lake Lumber Co. and Plum Creek Lumber Co.

He was an avid reader and musician, and enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include a sister, Norma Norton, Spokane; a brother, Jake Wiks and wife, Debbie, Spokane; five nieces and three nephews; former wife and friend, Patty McCullough and family, Kettle Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Doris Wiks.

Danekas Funeral Chapel and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Dick Andres

Richard C. "Dick" Andres passed away August 5, 2004, in Overton, NV, at the age of 60.

Mr. Andres was born on August 25, 1943, in Coeur d'Alene, ID.

He was raised in Spokane, Kettle Falls, and graduated from Coeur d'Alene High School in 1962.

He joined the U.S. Army, and worked two years with the Lynnwood Police Department.

Mr. Andres married Mary Braun on July 3, 1965 in Kettle Falls.

In 1973 he joined the Stevens County Sheriff's Department.

From 1986-1994 he served as the Sheriff of Stevens County.

Mr. Andres enjoyed the climate in Nevada, playing golf, and playing cards.

Memorial service for Dick Andres will be held at a later date. Danekas Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Andres, Colville; three daughters, Holly Cummings and husband, Keith, Otis Orchards; Christy Collins and husband, Bob, Spokane Valley; Libby McInelly and husband, Leamon, Rice; nine grandchildren, Jason, Rachel, and Krista Cummings; Katelynn, Jacob, and Sidney Collins; Morgan, Leamon, and Mya McInelly; five brothers, Bob Andres, Colville; Bill Andres, Liberty Lake; Dutch Andres, Liberty Lake; Karl Andres, Lynnwood; Jim Andres, Port Angeles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fabian and Fanny Andres; by a brother, Frederic Andres, and by a special cousin, John Mitchell.

John Ochs

John Douglas Ochs, a 36-year resident of Colville, passed away on August 3, 2004, in a wind-surfing accident near Kettle Falls.

He was born on Feb. 9, 1961 in Auburn, the son of Gerald Arthur and Dorothy Irene (Tonstad) Ochs.

The memorial celebration for John D. Ochs was held August 9, at the Ag-Trade Center in Colville. Pastor Greg Knox officiated.

Mr. Ochs spent his early years in Auburn, and then moved with his family to Colville, where he began second grade.

While in school, he played baseball and wrestled.

Following his graduation in 1979, Mr. Ochs became very active in recreation league sports.

He played recreation volleyball, basketball, softball, and coached Little League baseball.

He worked on the family farm for several years before going to work in the truck repair shop for Vaagen Bros. Lumber Co.

He soon became the shop foreman and had worked for Vaagen's for over 17 years.

Mr. Ochs married Carolyn "Camie" M. Kenner, in Colville, on Oct. 3, 1987.

They have resided in the Colville area since their marriage.

Mr. Ochs, often referred to by his family and friends as Opie, John Boy, John Bear, Uncle John and/or Brother John, was a loving, caring, and extremely generous man.

His approach to life was to enjoy every moment.

His inventive nature was often applied to his love of mechanics.

Some of his early farm equipment creations are still in operation.

Mr. Ochs loved to trade and barter for everything from cars and parts to landscaping and electrical work.

He was an avid golfer, hunter, camper, fisherman, and skier of both water and snow.

He loved to play pranks and stir things up in a positive way.

He spent countless hours playing golf and socializing at the numerous "social gatherings" he had organized.

His contagious love for life will live forever in the hearts of those who knew him.

Mr. Ochs is survived by his wife, Camie Ochs, at the home; his parents, Jerry and Dorothy Ochs, Colville; his brothers, Greg Ochs and wife Lisa, Colville; Jeff Ochs and wife Linda, Colville; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lucille and Jay Kenner, Kettle Falls; his sisters-in-law, Dawn Naff and husband Mike, Kettle Falls; Twila Weilep and husband Guy, Colville; his brother-in-law, Mike Kenner, Kettle Falls; nieces and nephews, Chris, Jodi, Justin, Jessie, and Jenny Ochs; Christopher and Taylor Naff; Dawson and Jacob Weilep; and numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, and extended family.

Memorial contribution can be given to the Shriner's Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, or any other charity benefiting children.

Woody Woods

Charles "Woody" Douglas Woods, age 62, of Coupeville, passed away Dec 28, 2004 at Island Hospital in Anacortes.

Mr. Woods was born August 2, 1942 in Caldwell, Texas.

He attended schools in Burleson County, Texas.

Mr. Woods, then entered the U.S. Air Force and served two years.

He lived life to the fullest.

He loved helping others and touched many lives with his kindness.

Mr. Woods was a great family man and would stop at nothing to protect them.

He enjoyed fishing, especially with his son-in-law Bruce, and being outdoors.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Shirley Juenke Woods; his loving daughter, Teri Ann La Londe, Son-in-law Bruce La Londe, who loved him dearly, and his two grandchildren, "who were the light of his life, " Shaun Douglas La Londe and Shelbi Ann La Londe, all of whom currently reside in Oak Harbor.

Other survivors include his sisters, Katherine McCoy and Mary Lee Williams of Texas; his brother, Robert Lee Woods; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Don and Sally Juenke of Kerrville, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Susie B. Estes; his father, Marvin Woods, and his brother, William Harold Woods.

Mr. Woods lived out his final days in the Home Place in Oak Harbor.

He had a one-year battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

The staff at Home Place were loving and caring toward him and his family.

The family is very grateful that he had such a wonderful place to live out his final days.

He died peacefully in the hospital and now is with our Lord and Savior, and those that went before him.

A Memorial service will be Monday, Jan. 3, at First Baptist Church of Oak Harbor, Pastor Clint Webb officiating.
