Anna Lee Rogers

Anna Lee Midkiff Rogers passed away Sept. 17, 2004.

Born Dec. 3, 1939 to Jesse Midkiff and Mae Wilbanks in Northport.

The funeral was held Sept. 22 in Maine.

After her father's death in 1952, Anna and her little brother movesd with their mother to Everett to be near her older sister, Jewel, and her husband Bill.

In 1956, she met and married Sam Rogers, a U.S. Navy man from Essex County Maine.

The family moved to Maine and had three daughters, Jewell Ann, Brenda Lea, and Marlene Marie.

The family moved to Spokane in 1970 where Roger worked for West Valley Excavating.

In 1972, the family moved back to Maine.

He passed away in 2001.

Anna was preceded in death by three brothers, Roy Ellis Midkiff, Ray Andersron Midkiff and George Vernon Midkiff; two sisters, Jewell Mae Moser and Betty Lou Bryant.

She is survived by one brother, Jack Leroy Midkiff, Colville three daughters, several grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Anna loved hunting, fishing and sewing.

She made lap robes for the elderly and caps for the babies at Goodall Hospital in Alfred, Maine.

She was a hard worker who had a quick wit and was always willing to lend a hand.

She will be missed by all.

Darryl Robert Olson

Darryl R. Olson, an 11-year resident of the Boyds area, passed away on Nov. 22, 2004 at the age of 68.

Darryl was born on Dec. 7, 1935 in Kalispell, MT, the son of Kenneth E. and Pauline (Dorshak) Olson.

He was raised in Kalispell where he attended school and was a 1954 graduate of Flathead Valley High School.

Darryl then attended telegraphy school in Spokane before starting his 37-year career for the Great Northern (Burlington Northern) Railroad.

One of his early assignments was to Kettle Falls where he met Margaret Miller.

They were married on Oct. 28, 1957 in Coeur d'Alene, ID.

Together they resided in Salmo, B.C., where they began a family.

Darryl's job required they reside for short time periods in Newport, Bonners Ferry, ID, Libby, MT and then returning to Bonners Ferry until 1967.

Darryl then earned a promotion from telegrapher into the Claims Department.

The family then spent two years in Spokane followed by eight years in Seattle.

Prior to Darryl's retirement on July 31, 1990, they made one final company move for Burlington Northern Railroad to North Dakota where they resided for seven years in Grand Forks and then Fargo.

Darryl and Margaret retired to Boyds where Darryl enjoyed raising horses.

His interest also included trap shooting with the Morehead Rod & Gun Club in North Dakota and Ft. Colville Gun Club in Colville.

He will be remembered as a gentleman with a debonair, generous and positive character.

Darryl deeply loved his family and to them he was everything.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Margaret Olson at the home; two sons: Arne Olson and his wife, Susan, Bonners Ferry and David Olson and his wife, Sonya, Spokane; three daughters: Leslie Olson, Boyds, Helen marie Farrar, Spokane and Patricia Regan and her husband, Michael, Stanwood; five brothers: Joel Olson, Arlington, Dennis Olson and his wife, Hazel, Oklahoma, Kenny Olson and his wife, Shirley, Columbia Falls, MT, Rodney Olson, Columbia Falls and Mark Olson, Arlington; five sisters: Frances Brookins and her husband, jack, Superior, MT, victoria Rundhaug and her husband, Dave, Tacoma, Jeanine Burke and her husband, Bob, Chateau, MT, Maureen Olson, Idaho and Kathleen Olson, Hayden, ID; nine grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A vigil service for Darryl Olson was held Friday, Nov. 26 with the Funeral Mass on Saturday, Nov. 27 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Kettle Falls.

Graveside services followed at the Calvary cemetery in Colville with celebrants Victor Blazovich and Robert McNeese.

Memorial contributions can be given to the N.E. Washington Home Health or the Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation, www.ctrf.org.

Danekas Funeral Chapel and Crematory was in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Hills

Margaret Mae Hills a 74 year resident of Kelly Hill, passed away at her home on Dec. 3, 2004, at the age of 84.

Mrs. Hills was born in Pasco on March 9, 1920.

She was the daughter of Herman and Bertha (Baxter) Behrens.

The Behrens family moved to Kelly Hill when she was 9 years old.

Mrs. Hills graduated from Marcus High School in 1939.

That same year she married Clifton Hills in Colville.

The couple made their life-long home on his family's farm on Kelly Hill, farming and raising cattle.

Mr. Hills passed away in 1997 shortly after the couple celebrated their 58 anniversary.

Mrs. Hills was a member of the Kettle River Grange, L.O.S. and Order of Eastern Star Pinetree Chapter in Kettle Falls, and the Rollin-20's Camper Club.

She also enjoyed quilting, sewing, and traveling.

Survivors include one son, John Hills and wife, Deb, Spokane Valley; two daughters, Joyce Denison and husband, Dan, Davenport; Carolyn Redelings and husband, Roland, Mesa, AZ; a brother, John Behrens and wife, Helen, Kelly Hill; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton Hills, in 1997.

Funeral service for Margaret Hills will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 9, at the Kettle River Grange.

Burial will follow at the Kelly Hill cemetery. Pastor Robert Morton will officiate.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Tri-County Hospice or Charity on one's choice.

David Slaven

David S. Slaven, a four year resident of Kettle Falls, passed away on Dec. 5, 2004, at his Kettle Falls home.

He was born in Glendale, CA on Oct. 25, 1959 the son of Harold Mitchell and Mary Beatrice (Rubalcava) Slaven.

At a young age, Mr Slaven moved with his family from Burbank, CA to LaCrescenta, CA.

While in LaCrescenta, he attended school.

Following high school graduation he moved with his brother Paul to CA.

He eventually returned to LaCrescenta and then to Burbank where he resided until moving north in 1996.

Mr Slaven has resided in the towns of Priest Lake, ID, Spokane and Kettle Falls.

Due to a physical handicap, Mr. Slaven was unable to work, so he made a living out of helping others.

He was always proud of his Mexican-American heritage and was fluent in both English and Spanish.

David's unwavering generosity and good nature will be dearly missed by his family and a host of friends.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Bea and Ted Parvin, Sandpoint, ID; three brothers, Paul D. Slaven and his wife, Kathy, Priest Lake; John R. Slaven, LaCrescenta; Steven A. Slaven-Stockholm, Sweden; and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be an ash interment for David Slaven, at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park cemetery in Hollywood Hills, CA.

Memorial contributions can be given to any local Catholic Church.

Danekas Funeral Chapel and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.

Judith Y. Boring

Judith Y. Boring, 55, of Colville WA died May 31, 2004 at her home.

Judith was born June 30th 1949, the daughter of Melissa E. (Fincher) and Charles Fredrick Wood in Ione WA.

Judith lived in Cusick, WA for several years until the Diamond Match Mill at Usk shut down, and then moved with her family to the Seattle area.

She relocated to Colville in 1976 to raise her family.

She is survived by her husband Randy L. Boring, a local Colville area logger, whom she married in 1982; her daughters Tamera P. Kennedy, Vicki A. Clowser, and son Robert E. Dunlap; step children Christopher Boring and Rene Adkins; 13 grandchildren, Daniel, Darla, Joshua, Vanessa, Shane, Kiara, Kevin, Christopher, Sean, Alec, Jordan, Issabella, and Elijah; brothers, Loyd Rowe of Medford Oregon and Fred Wood of Deer Park WA; sisters, Nancy Houghton of Newport WA and Patricia Gordius of Westport WA.

Judith is also survived by her parents Melissa E. and Charles F. Wood of Kettle Falls WA.

Judith was a devoted wife and mother who took pride in maintaining a home where everyone could feel the love of Jesus.

She enjoyed Bible studies, gardening, genealogy, history, music, and her family, friends, and neighbors.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Open Memorial services will be held at Colville Seventh Day Adventist Church on June 6, 2004 at 1:00 PM.

Judith will be interred at the private family mausoleum located on their property.

A short service for immediate family will be held at that time.

A reception will follow at the Kettle Falls Seventh Day Adventist Church at 4:30 PM.

Catherine Hergesheimer

Catherine Anne Hergesheimer, age 88, a long-time resident of the Cedonia area, passed away on July 24, 2004.

She was born on May 6, 1916, in Bowden, Alberta, Canada, the daughter of James Francis and Mary Adelaide (Doughty) Fay.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 29, at the Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville.

Graveside and vault interments will follow at the Cedonia cemetery, with Pastor Terry Walker officiating.

Mrs. Hergesheimer spent her early years in Canada, before moving to the Aspen Valley area near Colville.

There she attended school and helped on the family farm.

On March 16, 1940, she married Fay Hergesheimer in Spokane.

The couple moved to Cedonia, where they owned and operated the family farm for over 30 years.

In 1972 they began to enjoy retirement, and eventually moved to Arden, in 1981.

Mr. Hergesheimer passed away on August 24, 1997.

Mrs. Hergesheimer moved to the Buena Vista Retirement facility in August of 2002.

She was always a hard worker, whether it be on the farm, or in her garden.

She loved flowers, and grew them from seed in both the greenhouse and garden.

Mrs. Hergesheimer was also an avid reader; she read books about flower gardening to old west novels.

She enjoyed sewing, knitting, painting, listening to and reciting old western tales.

Memories of her will include her always-present, yet quiet, love for her family; her ability to cook, especially the special baking of pies and cinnamon rolls.

Mrs. Hergesheimer was preceded in death by her sisters, Alice, Mabel, Frances, Doris, Lillian; and by her brothers, Bob and Jim.

She is survived by her daughter, Darlene MacNaughton and her husband, Leo, Colville; one step-son, Darrell Benzel and his wife, Judy, Dixie; three sons, Gale Hergesheimer and his wife, BJ, Gifford, Dean Hergesheimer, Vancouver, Dorlan Hergesheimer and his wife, Diana, Lewiston; 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; former daughters-in -law, Judy Lambie, Michelle Hergesheimer, Sharon Selder, and Evelyn Sheldon.

Memorial contributions can be given to the Colville Christian Church or the Cedonia cemetery Fund.

Danekas Funeral Chapel and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
