Joan Mae Raska
Funeral service for Joan Mae Raska was held Monday, Nov. 29, 2004 at the Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville.
Graveside service and vault interment followed at the Mountain View Park cemetery, Colville.
Pastor Greg Knox officiated.
Mrs. Raska, a lifetime resident of Colville, passed away on Nov. 23, 2004 in Spokane at the age of 79.
Joan was born on June 12, 1925 in Colville, the daughter of James Glenn and Twila LaRue (Craft) Snoddy.
She attended both grade school and high school in Colville and graduated in 1943.
Joan then worked at the Stevens County Extension Office for several years.
She married
Joseph Francis Raska on Aug. 21, 1947 in Colville.
They soon had a family and Joan then chose to work as a homemaker.
The family moved to Spokane in 1955 and in 1963 returned to Colville.
In 1965, Joan went to work for the U.S. Forest Service.
She was soon promoted to an office manager's position and was stationed at the Kettle Falls Ranger District.
Joan retired in 1986 from the Kettle Falls station.
Since she was a young child, Joan has enjoyed family gatherings at the Lake Thomas cabin.
She passed those family values onto her children and grandchildren who continue to enjoy the lake cabin gatherings.
Joan was always very concerned and willing to worry for the welfare of others.
She dedicated time to her community through volunteering at the Chamber of Commerce and was a past member of the Eastern Star.
Joan also enjoyed reading, sewing, traveling to Nevada to visit "Lady Luck" and was always willing to socialize with friends and family over a game of pinochle.
She was preceded in death by one son, Kevin Raska.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Joseph Raska at the home; son Ron Raska and his wife, Diane, Spokane; daughter: Sharon Loan and her husband, Dale, Colville; three grandchildren: Brent Raska, Jamie and Whitney Loan; three sisters: Jean Flugel, Colville, Beverly Sjoa, Sun Valley, CA and Betty Hoffsmith, Tucson, AZ; numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty Jo Kaiser
Betty Jo Kaiser, a 2 and 1/2 year resident of Colville, WA passed away at her home on November 30, 2004.
Betty Jo was born in Crane, TX to Daniel and Mary Duncan on June 1, 1929.
Betty Jo grew up in Southern California, and graduated from San Pedro High School in 1947.
In that same year, she married
Hosea Hoopingarner.
She did accounting and bookeeping for several different companies.
She moved from Southern California to Roy, UT in 1995, then moved to the Seattle, WA area in 1998.
Betty Jo moved to Colville in 2002.
She is survived by: her son, Glenn Hoopingarner and his wife Gail, Colville, WA; granddaughter, Ciarra Hoopingarner, Colville, WA; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
At Betty Jo's request, no services will be held.

George Pittman
George Lester Pittman passed away Dec. 6, 2004, in Spokane, at the age of 80.
He was born Feb. 7, 1924 in Algona, Iowa.
Mr Pittman was the son of Ray and Jennie (Falwey) Pittman.
He was a member of the CCC's before joining the US Army during WWII.
He proudly fought Northern France, the Ardennes and Rhineland while serving in I company 329th Inf. 83 Inf. Division (Thunderbolts).
He received his honorable discharge in April 1946.
Mr. Pittman received the Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts, European-African, Middle-Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal with Expert Combat Infantryman Badge with M1 Rifle Tab.
He was a member of the American Legion and Lifetime member of DAV and VFW Post no. 1435.
After discharge from the service he moved to Colville in 1954.
He married
Ilene Drake in 1954.
The couple made their home in the Aladdin area, where Mr. Pittman farmed and worked for area lumber mills, including Draper Lumber, Vaagen Brothers Lumber, the Arden Mill and a short time for Colmac Coil.
In 1965 the couple moved to Spokane, where he was employed at the Long Lake Lumber Co.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ilene Pittman, Spokane; his children, William L. Pittman and wife, Debra, Ohatchee, AL; Linda I. Hall and husband, John R., Spokane; Raymond Pittman, Spokane; Sue S. Dancer, Spokane; his sisters, Erma of Arizona and Alice of Kenmore; 15 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Glen, Harold and Vern Pittman, and by his parents.
Funeral service was held Dec. 10, at the Danekas Funeral Chapel.

Henry Croteau
Henriot J. (Henry) Croteau passed away May 24, 2004, in Colville, at the age of 86.
Mr. Croteau was born on Nov. 24, 1917 in North Grosvenordale, CT.
He was the only son among several sisters of Euclid J. and Couranna (Mandeville) Croteau.
Henry started working at the age of 13, in Thompson, CT at a bakery.
He also worked several years at the American Optical Co. in Southbridge, MA.
Henry married
Cecelia Sorel on June 8, 1940 in Quinebaug, CT.
Together they raised three daughters and four sons.
In 1952 Henry, his wife and children started out on their journey to sunny California to escape the humidity and get into a dryer climate, due to the illness of one of the children.
They traveled across country in a 1940 Chevrolet, with their six children, ages 10 1/2 years to 15 months of age, with only $300 in their pocket and a few personal belongings.
Arriving in Salinas, they then went to L.A.
They lived there until October of 1960, when they moved to Colville.
Henry worked in several lumber mills in the area and retired in 1984 from the Plum Creek Lumber Mill in Arden.
He was an excellent, dependable worker and provided faithfully all through the years for his family.
One of his greatest joys were to join with his two buddies and cut firewood for the needy and elderly.
He also joined his wife in ministering to people in jails, hospitals, nursing homes and shut-ins.
He truly demonstrated a heart of compassion toward those in need and especially so to his dear wife in her later years of illness: a perfect example of commitment.
Gardening was enjoyable to Henry and using the riding lawnmower given to him on Father's Day from his children.
His taste for chocolate Hershey bars and Pepsi were a real enjoyment.
Henry loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always was thrilled to see them and revel in the beauty of their lives.
Children were his passion.
The last two years of his life were lived at the Valley View Adult Home with the Connelly family and Vicki Rogers as his care providers.
What a blessing they were.
"Thank you" doesn't always say enough!
Their labors of love were evident.
This was Henry's home away from home.
Henriot J. Croteau: father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend will be terribly missed!
He had that "Blessed Hope" burning in his heart and looking forward to seeing Jesus and living forever with Him.
We will all miss you, Daddy--but we'll see you again in Heaven...joining hands together, meeting at the Savior's side.
Survivors include three daughters, Roberta Engebretsen and husband David of Centralia; Louise Pearson and husband Arne of Colville; Susan Daniel of Omak; four sons, Maurice Croteau and wife Joan of Kennewick; Lawrence Croteau of Riverside CA; Mark Croteau and wife Maria of Colville; Wesley Croteau and wife Beth of Rescue, CA; 17 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren that were his pride and joy.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cecelia on May 17, 1998.
Funeral service for Henry Croteau will be held on Tuesday, June 1, at 10 a.m. at the Colville Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Burial will follow with vault interment at Mountain View Park cemetery, Colville.

Mary Richards
Mary Catherine Richards, a nine-year resident of Colville, passed away August 5, 2004, in Colville, at the age of 84.
She was born on March 19, 1920, in Seattle, the daughter of H. Vincent and Lessie (Newland) Hyde.
Ash interment service will be held at 11 a.m., on August 21, at the Mt. View cemetery in Leavenworth.

Mrs. Richards grew up in the Seattle area, and was a 1938 graduate of Ballard High School.
She attended one year at Western Washington College.
She married
Orville Richards on July 20, 1940, in Coeur d'Alene.
They moved from Seattle to the small town of Winton, near Leavenworth, in 1949.
Mr. Richards passed away in 1994 and Mrs. Richards continued on in Winton for a year, before moving to Colville, in 1995.
Mrs. Richards was active in the Colville community since her arrival in Colville.
She was a member of the Mount Carmel Hospital Auxiliary, the Stevens County Historical Society, Habitat for Humanity, and the Colville United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed reading, and was an avid supporter of the 4-H, while in Leavenworth.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Green and husband, Bernie, Silver Lake, Ohio; her son, Dr. Terry Richards and wife, Donna, Colville; her grandchildren Amy Richards and husband Kevin Schwartz, Anacortes; Paul Richards, Portland; Bradley Green, Madison, WI; Bryan Green, Morgantown, WV; Darren Green, State College, PA; Deborah Green, Charlotte, NC; two great-grandchildren, Zoie and Olivia Schwartz, Anacortes.
