Lawrence Fox
Lawrence "Shorty" Fox, 63, passed away in Spokane on April 10, 2004, due to heart failure.
He was a lifetime Colville and Northport resident.
He was born on August 25, 1940 to George Sr., and Delores Fox of Colville.
Both are deceased.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Evelyn, married
in Coeur d'Alene on May 7, 1960; a daughter, Wanda and Dennis, Spokane; sons, James and Loretta, Yelm; and Doug and Jessie, Spokane; Stacey and Lori, Spokane; Martin and Katie, Colville; honorary son Rex Weilep, Colville; and daughter, Margo Reickers, Northport, and 18 grandchildren: Willy, Sheena, Shalako, Sabrina, Jori, Torrie, Dalton, Jessika, Audriana, Taylor, Lane, Amanda, Garret, Cordell, Chase, Andrew, Cole, Ashely, and one expected great-grandchild.
Surviving siblings include sister Blanche and Cecil Storer, Kettle Falls; sister Margaret Jenkins, Colville; sister Helen and Bill Daniels, Canyon Lake, TX; sister Mary Kidder, Philomath, OR; twin sister Lucille and Les Hallam, Kettle Falls; sister Betty Hallam, Northport; brother Mike and Susan, Bagdad, AZ; sister-in-law LaVonna, Colville; brother Jack and Linda, Spokane; brother Dale and Sherry, Colville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was employed by and retired on June 28, 2002 from Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad (43 years).
He enjoyed computers, collecting HO trains, fishing, hunting, traveling, going to yard sales and watching the Mariners play (he got to see the Mariners in person on Aug. 26, 2003).
Going to coffee every third Thursday of the month with the retired Burlington Northern guys was also a hobby.
He enjoyed Penny, his dog, and puppies.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Sr. and Deloris Fox; by brothers Harold, George Jr. and grandchild Megan.
He was a great family member to all and enjoyed his grandchildren.
Memorial service was held April 24 at the Danekas Funeral Chapel.
A potluck followed the service at The Arden Community Hall.

Deirdre Haran Abeid
Deirdre Haran Abeid passed away May 29, 2004 at her home in Rice after a courageous battle with cancer.
Deirdre was born August 27, 1955, the daughter of James and Maura Therese McCarthy Haran.
She grew up in San Francisco in a large Irish-Catholic family.
In 1977 she married
Simon Abeid and moved to Rice where they built their home and raised three children, Mellad, Caitlin, and Claire.
Deirdre was an incredibly gifted musician.
In grammar school she played flute in a woodwind quartet; at Lincoln High School in San Francisco she sang in an award-winning choir.
She began Irish step-dancing at the age of five, and her talent as a dancer ultimately led her to establish the Haran School of Irish Dance in Kettle Falls.
Her strong voice was the heart of her church choir, and she participated in Woodland Theater productions as an actress, singer, dancer, and choreographer.
Among other shows, she performed in "Trial by Jury" and "Pirates of Penzance, " and was the unforgettable, lovely Irish lass, Sharon, in "Finian's Rainbow."
She was a natural performer who brought joy to many audiences.
The Haran Irish Dancers are famous for their wonderful, lively shows, all beautifully directed by Deirdre.
Her talents also included the domestic arts: she was a master gardener, cook, knitter, and seamstress.
She loved working with her hands and took pleasure in all sorts of creative and practical projects: she could upholster a couch, shear a sheep, embroider a Celtic border on a beautiful dance dress.
She also loved to host large, festive gatherings of family and friends.
Deirdre was a born teacher. She taught reading to students of all ages and home-schooled her own children.
Her dance studio has been a vital part of the community for years, and many families are grateful for the way she has touched the lives of their children.
Above all, Deirdre was devoted to her family.
She was a person of strong faith and an eternal optimist.
She had a terrific sense of humor and loved to tell a story, especially a funny one.
Deirdre will be remembered as a cheerful, strong, fearless woman whose joy and laughter and generous spirit were an inspiration to all who knew her.
Deirdre is survived by: husband Simon Abeid and children Mellad, Caitlin, Claire; father James Haran and stepmother Loyce Haran of Sonoma, CA; sister-in-law Betty Ann Abeid, brother-in-law Tom McLaughlin and their children Jamilah, Emma, and Norah or Deming, WA; brother Terry Haran and sister-in-law Susan Haran and their children Jeff and Alex of Boulder, CO; sister Mary Cleere Haran and son Jacob Gilford of Brooklyn, NY; sister Bronwyn Harris and brother-in-law Doug Harris of Evans; sister Brigid Haran of Petaluma, CA; brother Tim Haran and daughter Angela Haran of San Francisco, CA; brother Ned Haran of Sebastopol, CA; sister Eithne Bullick and brother-in-law Brian Bullick and their children Teal and Jamie Junco of Sonoma, CA; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Deirdre was preceeded in death by her mother Maura McCarthy.
Friends of the Abeid family are encouraged to make contributions to Catholic charities in Deirdre's memory.
A vigil will be held Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Kettle Falls.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Colville with a reception to follow.
Danekas Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Merle Clark "Mickey" Brainerd
Merle Clark "Mickey" Brainerd age 82, of Silverdale, passed away at her home on July 20, 2004.
She was born September 25, 1922 in Wilbur to Glen R. and Georgia (Cronn) Clark.
She worked for 23 years as an Administrative Secretary for the Newport-Mesa Unified School District, retiring in 1979.
She is survived by her daughters Dana Brainerd, Karen and husband Steve Monaco, all of Silverdale; brother Bernard Clark of Colville; sister Geraldine Scamahorn of Leavenworth; and grandchildren Nick and Jaime.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brothers, Ken and Jack Clark.
Inurnment will be held in Colville.

Dick Garringer
Richard K. (Dick) Garringer, 52, a lifetime resident of Colville, passed away on August 6, 2004, as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident near Prineville, OR.
Mr. Garringer was born on April 22, 1952, in Colville, the son of Robert Keith and Ora Mardell (Humphrey) Garringer.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, August 12, at the Ag-Trade Center, in Colville.
Graveside service and vault interment will follow at the Mountain View Park cemetery in Colville. Pastor Greg Knox will officiate.
Mr. Garringer grew up in Colville, where he attended school, and graduated from Colville High School in 1970.
He then moved to Spokane and attended Spokane Falls Community College.
In 1972, he transferred to Washington State University in Pullman, where he completed his degree in business.
Mr. Garringer went to work as an insurance investigator in the Tri-Cities area, for a short time, prior to working in the residential construction industry.
He returned to Colvllle in the late 1970's, and went to work for Melby Construction.
On May 22, 1982, he married
Theresa Michelle Kroiss, in Coeur d'Alene, ID.
They made their home in Colville, and in 1983, Mr. Garringer purchased the Garringer Insurance/Realty from his parents. He and Theresa are the third generation to have owned and operated Garringer Insurance/Realty.
Mr. Garringer was an avid adventurer.
He loved to snow and water ski, ride both dirt and street motorcycles, go on pack-in hunting trips, and countless snowmobile trips. He also enjoyed taking road trips and going fishing, but not necessarily for the fish; more so for the company. Mr. Garringer was very strong-willed, and had a fun-loving approach to life and a sense of humor that will be dearly missed.
The Colville man was a member of Kiwanis, the Colville Volunteer Fire Department, and the Driftriders Snowmobile Club.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bob Garringer, on May 21, 2004.
Mr. Garringer is survived by his wife, Theresa Garringer, at the home; two sons, Matt Garringer, Moscow, ID; Karl Garringer, Colville; his mother, Mardell Garringer, Colville; two brothers, ; Dave Garringer and wife Debbie, Colville; Don Garringer and wife, Mary Ann, Coeur d'Alene; one sister, Diane Ferraro and husband, Pat, Colbert; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions can be given to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Colville Volunteer Fire Department, and/or St. Jude's Hospital.

Carolyn "CJ" Lockner
Carolyn "CJ" Lockner passed away at her Arden home on Sept. 26, 2004 at the age of 60.
She was born on August 1, 1944 in Ontario, Oregon, the daughter of Robert Rex and Ruby Winonah (Mickelson) Grove.
Mrs. Lockner was raised and schooled in Payette, Idaho and graduated from high school there in 1962.
She attended one year of college at Boise Junior College.
Memorial Service for Carolyn Lockner was held on Oct. 1.
On February 18, 1965, she married
John Lockner in Payette.
The couple moved to the Colville area in 1977.
In 1998 they moved to Arden.
Mrs. Lockner worked for Sears, Washington Water Power and JC Penney.
In 1984 she began working for Spokane Community College in Colville.
Mrs. Lockner retired there on August 31, 2004.
Very active in her community, Mrs. Lockner was a member of the Eagles, Arden Community Club and Arden Old-Timers Rodeo Association.
She loved crafts, flowers, shopping and had a large collection of bird figurines.
She loved her family and many friends and will be missed by all.
Survivors include her husband of 38 years, John Lockner, Arden; two daughters, Lisa Ochs and husband, Greg, Colville; Dawn Golden and husband, Dean, Colville; five grandchildren, Chris, Jodi, Justin, Ashley, and April.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Laura in 1965.
