Robert P. Arthaud - Oct. 1, 2008
A celebration of life for Robert P. Arthaud will be held at 3 pm Thursday, October 9th at the First Presbyterian Church, 420 N. Broadway, Aberdeen.
A private inurnment with his parents in Fern Hill cemetery will have taken place.
The family suggests memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Arthaud, also known as Robert Bob Arthur in many films and television programs, died at his home in Aberdeen, Wednesday, October 1, 2008.
He was born in Aberdeen June 18, 1925, the son of Paul and Gertrude B. (Sather) Arthaud.
He was a graduate of Weatherwax High School, and had served in the Navy. He turned to acting and performed in many films and on television, returning to Aberdeen in 1995.

Roger Fritz - Sept. 23, 2008
Roger Fritz, 81, a barber and motel operator in Grays Harbor for many years, went home to be with our Lord Tuesday, September 23, 2008, in Providence St. Peter Hospital, Olympia.
He was born in Dodge, N.D. on April 3, 1927, the son of Paul and Henrietta (Hanson) Fritz. He attended high school in Dodge where he was a member of the basketball team.
The family came to Bremerton in 1942 and Roger went to work at the ammunition depot until he joined the Army in 1945.
After his discharge in 1946, he returned to the depot for six months. He moved to Seattle in 1947 and then Westport in 1948 where he was a commercial fisherman.
In 1949 he went to Vancouver, Wash. to work at the carborundum plant. It was at this time he met Wanda Louise Allen and they were married
in Stevenson, Wash. in 1952. They returned to Bremerton that same year and he worked at the ammunition depot until it closed in 1957.
They returned to Vancouver in 1960 where Roger attended barber school while working at the bowling alley.
They came to Aberdeen in 1964 and he operated Rogers Barber Shop in several locations. They owned a shop in Fritzs Shoreline Motel at Pacific Beach from 1977-83, and also owned Earrings & Things from 1983-86. Roger continued to barber, retiring in 1994 to care for Louise who was terminally ill.
He remarried
in 2000 to Edythe Stone in Ulysses, Kan. They made their home in Aberdeen.
Roger enjoyed bowling, playing pool, fishing, clam digging, and gardening. He loved reading the Bible, singing with his church family, and get togethers with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Edythe Edie Stone-Fritz, Aberdeen; a daughter, Debbie (David) Kilwien, Cosmopolis; a step-daughter, Beverly Lock, Ulysses, Kan.; two step-sons, Dave (Karen) Stone, Newport Beach, Calif., and Dan (Adrian) Stone, Denver, Colo.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Roger was the last of ten brothers and sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 3 pm, Tuesday, September 30th at the Church of Christ in Central Park. Pastor Rick Ashlock, will officiate. A potluck dinner will follow the service at the church.
A private inurnment will take place in Fern Hill cemetery.

Richard Allen McAllister - Aug 27, 2008
Richard Allen McAllister, 72, a former Harbor resident, died at his home in Mountlake Terrace, Washington, Wednesday, August 27, 2008. He was born in Aberdeen on February 4, 1936, the son of Edward J. and Esther I. Ekstrom McAllister.
Dick was raised on the family farm in Central Park by his mother and stepfather Fred Bird. He graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1954 and attended the University of Washington from 1954-56.
Dick served in the Army from 1958 to 1960 and after the service worked for the Seattle School District. He married
Bonnie McDuff on Feb. 5, 1961 in Aberdeen. They were later divorced. He married
Karen Burke in Hawaii on October 30, 1985. They later divorced in 1998.
From 1963 to 1976, Dick and his brother, Robert, owned and operated Industrial and Marine Supply on Levee Street in Hoquiam which later became a dealership for Kawasaki Motorcycles. He was also a member of the Hoquiam YMCA where he loved to play racquetball and handball.
Dick sold real estate for Ted Brower Real Estate until the late 1980s. He also fished commercially in Alaska in 1985 for a cousin, John Edwards. While living in Lynnwood he sold real estate for a short time. Dick then became the supplier representative west of the Mississippi River for Hartz Mountain Company, a supplier of carpet cleaning products for store outlets. Beginning in 1994 he drove for Shuttle Express at SeaTac Airport for 10 years, retiring in 2004.
Dick was a member of the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity at the UW. He also found time to race hydroplanes and motorcycles, climb mountains, fly airplanes and go fishing. He enjoyed doing stained glass windows and was an avid reader, especially Stephen King novels. He also enjoyed telling wonderful stories of his own life experiences. He was a wonderful father.
Dick is survived by a son, Scott, Puyallup; a brother, Robert McAllister, Lost Lake, Shelton; two grandchildren, Trais and Richard Taran McAllister; several nieces and nephews; and a daughter- in-law, Candy.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Saturday, Sept. 6th, in the chapel at Fern Hill Funeral Home. Inurnment will take place in Fern Hill cemetery, Aberdeen.

Shirley R. Winter - Oct. 15, 2008
Shirley R. Winter, 74, a longtime resident of Aberdeen, died at Grays Harbor Health and Rehabilitation Center in Aberdeen, Wednesday, October 15, 2008. She was born in Aberdeen December 23, 1933, the daughter of Frances Stephenson Hart.
She attended Aberdeen schools and went to live with an aunt in Everett for a time before returning to Aberdeen and graduating from Weatherwax High School in 1951.
Shirley married
Norman VanBeek in Aberdeen in 1952. They were later divorced. She married
Wayne Axtell in 1962, and later divorced. She went to Longview in 1970 and was married
there in 1971 to Delbert Winter.
She owned and operated taverns in Kelso and Stella, Washington. In her earlier years she had worked at the A & L Tavern here in Aberdeen.
In 1983 she retired due to being severely burned in an accident in her home.
Shirley loved her dogs and kept in touch with her friends on the computer. She liked to play games, do crossword puzzles and watch Wheel-Of-Fortune.
She is survived by two sons, Stephen VanBeek, Lolo, Mont., and Paul VanBeek, Ilwaco; a daughter, Laurie Chesterman, Aberdeen; two brothers, George Hart, Montesano, and James Hart, Westport; five grandchildren, Jon, Will and Dan Chesterman, Christopher and Jason VanBeek; and six great-grandchildren, Caine, Thyme, Sage, Shannon and Zabien Chesterman and Brookelynn Boyer. She was preceded in death by a son, John VanBeek; her mother, Frances; her sister, Margaret; and a grandson, Michael Paul VanBeek.
A potluck celebration of her life will be held from 1:00 to 6:00 pm, Saturday, October 25, 2008 at the Grays Harbor College Hub.
A private inurnment will take place at Fern Hill cemetery.

Violet Cook - Oct. 2, 2008
Violet Cecelia Cook, 85, a lifetime resident of Aberdeen, died Thursday evening, October 2, 2008 at Northwest Hospital & Medical Center in Seattle.
Violet was born January 30, 1923 in Aberdeen to Frank and Mandina (Martinovich) Burich.
She graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1941 and then from Grays Harbor Business College.
In 1945, Violet married
Monte Cook. They lived in San Diego, Calif. while he was stationed in the Navy, returning to Aberdeen to raise their family.
Violet worked for the Grays Harbor Medical Bureau in Aberdeen for twelve years, retiring in the late 70s. She had also worked for Dr. Erhart for ten years before he was killed in a plane crash. Previously she worked at JC Pennys.
Violet loved being with her friends and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Yugoslavian Lodge and St. Marys Catholic Church.
She is survived by her son, Monte Skip Cook of Lynnwood; a daughter, Michelle Hagen of Seattle; and a granddaughter, Brittany Hagen of Seattle. She was preceded in death by a sister, Nada Walters.
There will be a graveside service for Violet at 2 pm, Friday, October 10, 2008, in the Fern Hill Mausoleum.
Violet had battled MS for 30 years and the family suggests memorials may be sent to the National MS Society, P.O. Box 4527, New York, NY 10163 or 1-800-344-4867.

Vlasta B. Paulson - Sept. 11, 2008
Longtime Harborite Vlasta Beatrice Paulson, 90, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen.
There will be no services.
Inurnment took place at Fern Hill cemetery in Aberdeen.
Cremation arrangements are by Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen.
William "Bill" David Teske - Sept. 16, 2008
William "Bill" David Teske, a former resident of Grays Harbor passed away at his home in Mukilteo, Washington, September 16, 2008.
Bill was born December 19, 1952 to Richard Teske and Victoria (Kohlhepp) Teske in Syracuse New York. He spent his childhood in many places including New York, Guam and Adak, Alaska before settling in Hoquiam where he attended Hoquiam High School, graduating in 1972.
In 1974 he returned to Syracuse where he married
and lived with his wife and children.
In 1985 the family moved to Baltimore, Md. In 1989 Bill and his family moved back to Hoquiam where he worked as an assembler at Lambs Grays Harbor. In 1999 he took a position at Lambs in Mississippi. Bill then returned to Washington where he worked as a Machine Shop Lead at HydraMaster in Mukilteo, from 2002 to the present.
Bill enjoyed sports, bowling, hunting, fishing, camping and most of all spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his children, Bill Teske of Cheney; Rebecca Welsh of Couer D'Alene, Idaho; and Kevin Teske of Renton; three grandchildren, Tesha, Roxanne and Jackson Teske; and his sisters, Brenda Kohlhepp of New Mexico and Debbie Bentow of Hoquiam. Bill also had two step sisters, one step brother and an adopted sister. Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Victoria.
There will be a memorial service at 1 pm Saturday, September 20, 2008 in the chapel at Fern Hill Funeral Home.

Astrid F. Carlstrom - Nov. 3, 2008
Astrid F. Carlstrom passed away peacefully at the Montesano Health and Rehab November 3, 2008 at the age of 88. She was born, June 13, 1920 in Worchester, Massachusetts, to Alex and Marie (Youngberg) Olson.
She grew up in Worchester and graduated form Millbury High School in 1937.
In 1942 June married
Peter A. Carlstrom, and they were married
for over 50 years. In 1947, they moved to Hoquiam and in 1966 they moved to Lost Lake, near Shelton.
Astrid had worked for Grays Harbor Veneer Plant in Hoquiam for over ten years. She went to work for Rognlins Inc. as a bookkeeper until her retirement.
In 1984, she and Peter moved to Westport, where they spent their summers, and wintered in Arizona. While living in Westport, she volunteered at the Westport VFW and The Chamber of Commerce.
Astrid loved to travel and was an avid reader. During their retirement, she and Peter spent time in Canada with their son and family, hunting and fishing. They had taken several trips to the east coast to visit family and friends.
Astrid is survived by a son, Jared (Sylvia) of Campbell River, B.C., a daughter, Karen A. Lyden of Westport, five grandchildren, four great- grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband Peter, one brother and one sister.
At Astrids request there will be no services. Any donations can be made to your favorite charity.

Darwin Morris Crites - Nov. 20, 2008
Darwin Morris Crites, 86, former resident of Aberdeen, died at the Hawthorne House, Tumwater, Thursday, November 20, 2008. He was born in Webster Springs, West Virginia August 12, 1922, the son of Ray C. and Dora L. (Hamon) Crites.
He came with his family to Montesano as a boy and graduated from Montesano High School in 1940.
Darwin worked at the shipyards in Tacoma from 1940 to 1942.
He married
the former Mildred I. Hogberg in Aberdeen in June 1942. Darwin joined the Army Air Force in 1942 and served in the 29th Bomber Group in the Pacific Theater. He was discharged in 1945.
He returned to the Harbor and worked for Graystone Concrete Company and in 1971 established Reliable Roofing. He operated the company until he retired in 1998, but continued to work in roofing sales until just a few years ago. He moved to Tumwater 2 years ago.
His wife Mildred, of 64 years, died here November 16, 2006.
Darwin was a member of Light and Life Community Church of Hoquiam and the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars of Aberdeen.
He enjoyed his family and life long friendships, hunting and gardening.
He is survived by two sons, Daniel M. Crites, Spokane, and Steven James Crites, Olympia; three daughters, Carol Ann Lewin, Tumwater, Nancy L. Crites, Phoenix, Ariz., and Janet D. Baker; two brothers, Elwin R. Crites, Yuma, Ariz., and Oshel C. Crites, Tumwater; two sisters, Martha G. Mollett, Mesa, Ariz., and Phern E. Yakovich, Olympia; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas L. Crites; and a sister, Nelda B. Kelly.
Visitation will be held 1:00 to 8:00 pm, Monday, November 24, 2008 in the chapel at Fern Hill Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 1:00 pm Tuesday, November 25th. Interment will take place in Fern Hill cemetery.
