Katherine May Copperthite
January 27, 1941 - June 10, 2015
Katherine May Copperthite, 74, of Port Orchard passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 10th 2015 due to complications from breast cancer. Born on January 27th 1941 in Washington D.C., she soon moved to Alaska, then back to Florida where she lived adventurously on a sailboat, and then Oregon before finally settling in Port Orchard for the past 40 years.
Since that day at the kitchen table in Alaska, she faithfully attended a local church wherever she lived, and always lit up those around her with a joke, a smile, or a compliment. Her joyful spirit, even in old age, reminded you of the gentle rain and new green growth in springtime. She loved the outdoors and all animals like squirrels and sparrows, and especially white horses, the cat tails in the pond, blue herons and Canada geese in the spring, and even the mud and skunk cabbage. Can you hear the spring peepers singing joyfully? Love, joy, and peace.
Throughout her life she worked diligently as an executive secretary at the FAA, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, and Washington Mutual in Seattle, but above all devoted many years to her children as a homemaker baking numerous blackberry pies. After retirement, she attended horse carting events, the Dahlia Flower Club and kept busy around the house.
Katherine is survived by her beloved pets Happy and Lattie Corr, two sisters Florence Sadler and Sarah Beers, and her four children: Ted, Jon, Dora, and Tim Copperthite; and four grandchildren: Matthew, Aria, Julian, and Abigail - all of California. Mom - you never made it to California!
A celebration of her life will be held in Port Orchard in September 2015. Please inquire at: kc_life@runbox.com.
