Carr, Mazie Sunday, 22 Aug 2004
Mazie Carr, of Port Orchard, died on Aug. 22, 2004.
She was 88.
She was born on June 8, 1916, in Pennsylvania and moved to Port Orchard in 1944 with her husband Casper Carr.
They were married
for 47 years; he preceded her in death in 1999.
She and her husband worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and later operated two snack bars at the Veteran’s Home at Retsil for 15 years.
She enjoyed traveling. camping, cooking, and her membership in TOPS of Port Orchard.
She is survived by sons Clifford Carr of Port Orchard and Phil Carr of Yakima; daughters Mary Nelson of Port Orchard, Linda McDaniel of North Carolina and Carol Middleton of Seattle; and many grandchildren.
There was a memorial service at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, Aug. 25, at First Baptist Church of Port Orchard, 2308 Sidney Ave.
Starkel, Lorna Tuesday, 17 Aug 2004
Lorna Marie Starkel died Aug. 17, 2004, of cancer at her home in Gig Harbor.
She was born on Oct. 30, 1923, in Annapolis to William and Emma Hatfield.
She graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1941. She married
James E. Starkel on Feb. 10, 1945 in Port Orchard.
She was a homemaker and stay-at-home mom.
She enjoyed camping, traveling in an R.V., several clubs and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, James of Gig Harbor, and sons Richard (Barbara) Starkel of Fairview Lake and Roger Starkel of Southworth; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Private services will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to be made to the Cancer Fund of 2338 Auxiliary in Port Orchard.
Glascock, Elizabeth Wednesday, 18 Aug 2004
Elizabeth Glascock died Aug. 18, 2004, at Harrison Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
She was 77.
She was born on Feb. 26, 1927 in Mansfield to Christian and Myrtle Christensen.
She graduated from Mansfield High School in 1944, from Holy Names Academy in 1948, and attended the University of Washington.
She worked as a social worker for 30 years. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband of two years, Donald Glascock of Port Orchard; son Chris (Liz) Lippincott of Jacksonville, Florida; daughters Cathy Lippincott of Port Orchard, Debbie (Buddy Maupin) Lippincott of Illinois and Terry (Hans) Dewitt-Dunshee of Snohomish.
She was preceded in death by her brother Ward Christensen.
Arrangements were handled by Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made to the local Humane Society of the giver’s choice.
Barnes, Wanda Wednesday, 11 Aug 2004
Wanda Sue Barnes of Port Orchard died Aug. 11, 2004, in Bremerton. She was 57.
She was born on Oct. 25, 1946, in Middletown, N.Y., to Edward and Ethel Barnes.
She graduated from Middletown High School in 1964 and Orange County Community Col-lege in 1966.
She worked as a medical technologist in New York, Bremerton and Tacoma for 27 years, and retired 10 years ago.
She enjoyed music, the New York Yankees, her cats, TV and reading.
She is survvived by longtime friend Victor Razo; brother Edward (and wife Donna) Barnes of Port Orchard, and three nieces and nephews.
Interment was at Sunset Lane Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements were handled by Rill Chapel.
Swearingen, John Thursday, 05 Aug 2004
John C. Swearingen, a Port Orchard resident, died August 5, 2004 at home of lung cancer.
He was 86.
He was born Sept, 18, 1917, in Sac City, Iowa, to Guy and Josephine Swearingen.
He attended Coe College and graduated from the University of Iowa Dental School in 1943.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1976, working as a dentist.
He married
Jane Furmeister in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on July 31, 1943. She preceded him in death in 1997.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan Rosapepe of Port Orchard, and two grandchildren, Elisabeth and Kathryn Rosapepe.
Roinas, Marjorie Monday, 09 Aug 2004
Marjorie Eileen Dimmen Roinas of Port Orchard died Aug. 9 at home of cancer.
She was 73.
She was born Nov. 30, 1930, in Tacoma to Walter and Margaret Dimmen. When her family moved to DeKalb, Illinois, she met and married
Nels Roinas. They had three children and moved back to the Northwest, living in Tacoma, Aberdeen and finally Port Orchard.
She enjoyed volunteering and was a subsitute teacher at a local preschool.
She was a member of Grace Bible Church for 22 years, and was happiest when surrounded by her family.
She is survived by her husband Nels, daughter Cyndi (Mike) Smith of Gig Harbor, daughter Jan (Jack) Hansen of Port Orchard and son Nels (Lisa) Roinas of Belfair; sister Barbara (John) Nelson of Illinois, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held today at 4 p.m. at Grace Bible Church.

Reite, Delores Saturday, 07 Aug 2004
Delores T. Reite, a Port Orchard resident, died August 7, 2004 at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
She was 82.
She was born August 13, 1921, in Fertile, Minn., to Walter and Mary Doughtery.
She attended school in Minnesota and married
Lloyd J. Reite on June 6, 1953, in Seattle.
She worked in food service for the South Kitsap School District and sold Avon products. She enjoyed traveling and dancing, in particular the Port Orchard Eagle’s Sunday dances.
She is survived by her husband, Lloyd, of Port Orchard, son Dr. Dale Reite, D.D.S. of Seattle, and daughter Laura Reite of Bremerton; two sisters, Hazel Wollwert of Seattle and Faye Humphrey of Knoxville, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by sisters Della Fish, Margaret Dougherty, Violet Argetes, Florence Melick, and brothers Ray and Lloyd Dougherty.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center.
Memorial donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
McFate, Janet Monday, 09 Aug 2004
Janet Helen McFate, a South Colby resident, died August 9, 2004, in Port Orchard.
She was 71.
She was born March 25, 1933, in Vancouver. She married
Ed McFate in Vancouver on June 12, 1955.
She taught at Olalla, Orchard Heights and South Colby elementary schools before retiring in 1988, and volunteered with Hospice of Kitsap County, PTO and Campfire Girls.
She enjoyed puzzles and gardening.
She is survived by her husband, Ed of South Colby, daughters Kris Lee of South Colby and Joy McFate-Lee of Houston, Texas; brother Norman Erkkila of Brush Prairie, and four grandchildren.
A service is planned at her family's home on the beach for Sept. 19 at 2 p.m.

Lively, Juanita Wednesday, 04 Aug 2004
Juanita Lively, of Port Orchard, died August 4, 2004, at her home after a bout with cancer.
She was 61.
She was born Aug. 5, 1942, in Huntington, West Virginia, to Donald and Dollie (Johnson) Turner. She graduated from Waipahu Community High School in Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1976.
She married
Neil H. Lively on Oct. 22, 1960, in Huntington. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by two sons, Neil and Earl, both of Port Orchard; three daughters, Tina Lively and husband Harold Soete of Port Orchard, Elison Cook (Dean) of LaCenter, and Helenia Lively of Port Orchard; two brothers, Donald Turner of Texas and Charles Turner of West Virginia; two sisters, Helen Eves of Ohio and Janice Panganiban of Port Orchard.
Services were held Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at Rill Chapel, with interment immediately following at Sunset Lane Memorial Park.
