Cain, Stephen
Stephen K. Cain, of Port Orchard, died on Dec. 29, 2006, at home.
He was 56.
He was born on July 3, 1950, in Redwood City, Calif., to John and Ruth (Thomas) Cain.
He graduated from UCLA with a degree in English.
He is survived by wife Theresa Cain of Port Orchard; daughter Laura Hart and brother John Cain.
A memorial service was held at Rill Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard on Jan. 4.

Kogan, Mathew
Mathew C. Kogan, of the Washington State Veterans Home at Retsil, died on Dec. 28, 2005, at Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton. He was 59.
He was born on Dec. 9, 1949, in Ely, Nev., to Joseph and Delsa (Gardner) Kogan.
He graduated from Kennewick High School in 1965 and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, earning numerous decorations, including a Bronze Star.
He was a member of the nuclear inspection team for 15 years at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at the ABATE Motorcycle Club.
He enjoyed reading, building and riding three-wheelers, and is a past member and president of the Retsil Resident Council.
He is survived by brothers William Kogan, of Lund, Nev., Joseph Kogan of Prescott, Ariz., James Kogan of Marana, Ariz., and Thomas Kogan of Richand.
A memorial service was held on Jan. 2, at the Retsil Chapel, followed by burial at the Lund (Nev.) cemetery.

Blowers, Steven
Steven Lloyd Blowers, of Okanogan, died on Dec. 27, 2006, at the Valley Care Center in Okanogan.
He was 54.
He was born on Jan. 24, 1954, in Mohall, N.D.
He was a carpenter.
He was a member of the Northwest Junior Rodeo Association as a rodeo clown and participated in team roping events throughout his adult life.
He is survived by parents Lois Ann (Miller) Dean of Shoreline and Lloyd H. Blowers of Queen Creek, Ariz.; sisters Pat Ebbert, of Twisp, Connie Anderson, of Leavenworth, and Sandy Doucette, of Port Orchard.
A memorial service is scheduled for Jan. 20 at 3 p.m. at the Active Club Building, 1027 Tacoma Ave.

Brownhill, Cecelia
Cecelia Louise (Brownie) Brownhill, RN at Harrison Hospital
Cecelia Louise (Brownie) Brownhill, 86, a resident of Bremerton, died Sept. 12, 2003 at Harborview Medical Center.
She was born on May 6, 1917 in Enumclaw to James and Louise (Richardson) Boland.
She married
James Brownhill on March 7, 1947.
He preceded her in death in 1994.
She graduated from Union High School in 1934 and attended Nursing School at Olympic College.
She was a Registered Nurse at Harrison Hospital from 1957 to 1979, when she retired.
Prior to her nursing career, she and her husband were co-owners of Society Cleaners in Bremerton.
She enjoyed her family and friends. Her hobbies were photography and music and she enjoyed Bingo, cards and the Seattle Mariners.
She is survived by her sister-in-law Betty Boland of Tacoma and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband; sisters Frances Carns, Dorothy Norby and Marion Golub; and brothers John, James, George, and Dennis Bo-land.
At her request there will be no services. Cremation was handled by Cherry Grove Crematory and inurnment will be at Forest Lawn cemetery in Bremerton.
Arrangements were handled by Lewis Funeral Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Kitsap County, PO Box 3416, Silverdale, WA 98383-3416 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Garner, Florence
Florence Mary Garner, of Port Orchard, died on Dec. 8, 2007, at Manor Care in Gig Harbor.
She was 90.
She was born Nov. 1, 1917, in Centralia, Ill., to John and Ferol (Stewart) Gearon.
She mar-ried Robert C. Garner on March 17, 1946 in Stockton, Calif.
He preceded her in death in 1969.
She worked as a bookkeeper for Sears, Roebuck Corp. for 25 years, retiring in 1978.
She loved folk, square and line dancing.
She was a member of the Catholic Church.
She is survived by daughter Ferol (and husband Robert) Williams of Port Orchard; and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and three brothers.
Graveside services will be held at the Stockton Rural cemetery in Stockton, Calif., on Dec. 13.
Bryars, Russell
Russell Lynn Bryars, of Port Orchard, died on Dec. 6, 2007 in Bremerton.
He was 49.
He was born on Feb. 14, 1958, in Tacoma, to Orvil and Ione R. (Escucerga) King.
He graduated from Yelm High School in 1977 and married
Lynne Sutherland on Aug. 13, 2000, in King County.
He worked as an automotive technician and enjoyed fishing, boating, scuba diving and his pets.
He is survived by wife Lynne Bryars; daughter Krisse; sons Russell and Rodger; stepdaughters Danyell and Brandy; and five grandchildren.
A celebration of life service was held on Dec. 12 at Rills Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard.
Simonson, Edwin
Edwin Simonson, a long time resident of Port Orchard, died on Dec. 5, 2007.
He was 88.
He was born on on Feb. 25, 1919, in Minot, N.D., and married
Sylvia Ardele Baker in 1955.
He joined the U.S. Army during World War II, became a member of the military police (MPs) and was stationed at Adak Island in the Aleutian Island Chain of Alaska.
After the war, he returned to Minot and worked for Borstad Motors and later moved to the Northwest and worked as a marine electrician at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton. He worked out of Shop 51 for 26 years until he retired in 1974.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sylvia Simonson, of Manor Care Nursing Home in Gig Harbor; son Ronald Simonson and two grandchildren.
A gathering of family and friends was held on Dec. 11 at Rill Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard, followed by a graveside service at Sunset Lane cemetery.
Simonsen, Mary
Mary Evalyn Hodge Simonsen, of Port Orchard, died on Dec. 2, 2007.
She was born in Bedford, Iowa, and spent her childhood in LaGrande, Ore., and later the Palouse.
She moved to Tacoma, and then to Port Orchard, where she became a long-time resident.
She was active in the Bethany Lutheran Church, the Sweet Adelines, the Sons of Norway and various arts and crafts classes.
She is survived by daughters Diane Watson, Mary Jane Hodge Fraser and Deborah Hodge Hollingsworth; sons Thomas Watson and Daniel Hodge; and nine grandchildren.
A celebration of the life will be held on Dec. 21 at 2:30 p.m. in the Victorian Rose Tea Room at 1130 Bethel Avenue, Port Orchard.
McGuirl, Mary
Mary Louise McGuirl, of Port Orchard, died on Nov. 26, 2007.
She was 85.
She was born June 10, 1922, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to John and Florence (Allen) Beale.
She married
James E. McGuirl on Sept. 11, 1948. He preceded her in death in 1996.
She graduated from high school in Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1935.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed crafts, needlepoint and bingo.
She was a member of T.O.P.S. and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Port Orchard.
She is survived by daughter Florence (and husband Gordon) Scheib of Port Orchard; brother William (and wife Katherine) Beale of Fredericksburg, Va.; and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband James E. McGuirl in 1996 and son James J McGuirl in 2000.
A memorial service was held on Nov. 30 at Rill’s Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard.
