Spanjer, Wilmer Sunday, 19 Oct 2003
Wilmer R. Spanjer, 92, a resident of Port Orchard, died Oct. 19 at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
He was born on Aug. 24, 1911, in Quincy to Edward and Jennie (Sallberg) Spanjer.
He married
Edna Jane Spanjer in Quincy on June 1, 1934. She preceded him in death in 1928.
He graduated from Quincy High School in 1928 and later worked as a supervisor at Lakeland Village, a state school for the mentally challenged.
He retired in the early 1960s.
He enjoyed golf, fishing and billiards.
He spent his winters in Arizona.
He is survived by his sons Earle Simmons and his wife Rena of Oak Harbor and Robert Spanjer and his wife Marlene of Port Orchard; his daughters Jackie Simmons of Phoenix, Ariz. and Frances Heng and her husband Don of Port Orchard; his sister Florence Parry of Oregon City, Ore.; also 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home in Spokane, followed by interment at Spokane Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements were handled by Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center.
Memorial donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society.
Tviedt, Marie Saturday, 18 Oct 2003
Marie (Lovelace) Tviedt, 99, a resident of Olalla, died Oct. 18 at Ridgemont Terrace.
She was born on Jan. 1, 1904, in Rhoda, W.Va., to Amos and Tacy (Graham) Hendershot.
She is survived by her son Chuck Lovelace of Olalla and her daughter Roxie Kirkpatrick of Utah; also five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Interment will be this Saturday at Fraola cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Arrangements were handled by Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center.
Patterson, Jean Saturday, 18 Oct 2003
Jean Joan Patterson, 60, a resident of Arizona City, Ariz., died Oct. 18, 2003, in Casa Grande, Ariz.
She was born in on Aug. 27, 1943, in Gillette, Wyo., to Lena and Paul Patterson.
She worked as a medical office manager.
She belonged to Beta Sigma Phi-Laureate Beta Zeta, and spent 23 years in sorority — Preceptor Alpha Mu. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, reading and shopping.
She is survived by her sons Scott Hetrick of Lacey and Jerry Hetrick of Albuquerque, N.M.; daughters Dianne Kogan of Tucson, Ariz. and Joanne Warren of Port Orchard; brother Jerry Patterson of Hunterville, Utah; and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister Judith Wall.
A Celebration of Life was held at on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, at Valley Chapel.
Graveside services were held on Friday, Oct. 24, 2003 at Mount Pisgah cemetery.
A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at United Methodist Church.
Hendricks, Thomas Friday, 17 Oct 2003
Thomas “Dick” R. Hendricks, 77, a resident of Rochester, died Oct. 17, 2003, at Washington Veterans Home in Retsil.
He was born on June 14, 1926, in Klamath Falls, Ore., to Thomas and Gladys Hendricks.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He is survived by his sons Scott and Jeff Hendricks; his daughters Christine Shielos and Anne Curtis; brother Scott Hendricks; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service was held on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, at Washington Veterans Home.
Yandell, Joseph Thursday, 16 Oct 2003
Joseph A. Yandell, 71, a resident of Port Orchard, died Oct. 16, 2003 at Bremerton Health and Rehab Center.
He was born on June 20, 1932 in Fredonia, Ky., to Thomas and Carrie (Rolston) Yandell.
He married
Barbara (Mobley) Yandell on Nov. 9, 1957.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1972 and achieved the rank of first sergeant as an Engineer Bridge Builder. He was a welder with Boeing Aircraft Co. in Seattle for 13 years.
He retired in 1986.
He was a member of the Port Orchard American Legion Post 30.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Yandell of Port Orchard; son Joseph Yandell Jr. and his wife Theda of Kent; daughters Bonnie Larson and her husband Richard of Olalla and Sally Marquette of Port Orchard; brother Voris Yandell of Marion, Ky.; and grandchildren Jason Yandell, James Marquette and Brandi Marquette.
Viewing was held on Oct. 17 and 18, 2003. A graveside service was held Monday, Oct. 20, 2003 at Fraola cemetery in Port Orchard. Arrangements were handled by Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center.
Memorial donations may be made in Joseph Yandell’s name to the Fisher House, c/o American Legion Post 30, Port Orchard.

Linda M. Butterfield, 51, a resident of Port Orchard, died Oct. 14, 2003.
She was born in Oakland, Calif. to Elbert L. and Marlene S. (Wendt) Kees. She married
Michael “Mick” Butterfield on May 20, 1995, in Las Vegas, Nev.
She graduated from Sunset High School in Hayward, Calif., in 1970 and from Bates Vocational in Tacoma.
She was a nurse for seven years until her medical retirement in 1999.
She enjoyed fishing, camping, arts and crafts, Bible study group and was involved in Children’s Cancer Camp. She was a member of the United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband Michael Butterfield of Port Orchard; parents Elbert and Marlene Kees of Olalla; son Kevin Jon Darcey and his wife Kim of Port Orchard; daughter Kymberly Kay Darcey; brother Steven Mark Roux of San Francisco, Calif.; sisters Susan J. Keller and her husband Robert of Huntington, Ore. and Karen L. Kees of Gig Harbor; and grandchildren Devyn D’Andre Darcey and Kennedy Paige Darcey, both of Port Orchard.
A memorial service was held on Oct. 17 at Port Orchard United Methodist Church.

Patraw, Margaret Monday, 13 Oct 2003
Margaret Louise Patraw, 88, a resident of Bremerton, died Oct. 13, 2003.
She was born on Nov. 11, 1914, in Chippewa Falls, Wis. to Edward and Louise (Schindler) Rubesch. She married
Donald A. Patraw on Oct. 6, 1937. He preceded her in death in 1999.
She was raised and educated in Wisconsin. She enjoyed bingo, was a member of the Perpetual Adoration Society at church and liked to spend time with her family and grandchildren. She was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton.
She is survived by her sons Donald E. Patraw of Bremerton and Jerry E. Patraw and his wife Jeanne also of Bremerton; daughter Mary Beth Campbell and her husband Robin of Bremerton; granddaughters Debby Portrey, Angela Patraw and Rebecca Campbell; grandsons Derek Ormiston, Michael Ormiston and Christopher Campbell; brothers Leonard Rubesch, Bud Rubesch, Jack Rubesch and Jim Rubesch, all of Wisconsin; and sisters Eleanor Church and Arylene Raawe, both of Wisconsin and Kathy Taft of Des Moines.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Helen, Marie, Louise and Rita.
A Rosary and a mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church on Oct. 16.
Cremation was handled by Cherry Grove Crematory and inurnment at Forest Lawn cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Port Orchard resident Zelma M. Deal died Oct. 11, 2003, in Port Orchard. She was 82.
She was born Nov. 8, 1920, in Cambridge, Neb., to Earl V. and Nellie Viola (Landon) Johnson.
She graduated from Cambridge High School and worked at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and at Rainbow Realty.
She enjoyed playing pinochle, traveling, bowling, quilting and was active in the Red Hat Society.
She is survived by her companion Ernest A. Wood of Port Orchard; daughters Joy Lehmann of Novato, Calif., Molly Siegel of San Marcos, Calif., and Molly Fike of Prescott, Ariz.; sister Rayma Craven, of Port Orchard; grandchildren Erich and Katie Lehmann, Jeremy Deal, and Daniel and James Fike; and great-granddaughter Brooklynn Deal.
There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m., Oct. 15, at Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center followed by burial at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.
