Nelson-Balogh, Linda Mae Wednesday, 23 Jul 2003
Linda Mae Nelson-Balogh, 58, a resident of Port Orchard, died July 23 at home.
She was born April 30, 1945, in Seattle to Donald and Lucille Nelson.
She was enjoyed sewing, floral arranging and doll collecting.
She is survived by her mother, who lives in Port Orchard; her children Laurie Gordon of Leesburg, Fla., Thea Ambler of Port Orchard, Jayson Spriggs of Port Orchard and Jonathon and Daniel Balogh of Port Orchard; her sister Marilyn Shull and her husband Dennis of Monroe; her brothers Darrell Nelson and his wife Rachel of Yelm, Garry Nelson of Port Orchard, David Nelson of Belfair and Robert Nelson of Vashon Island; also 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A private memorial will be held Aug. 17 at 2 p.m. Call 874-6699 for more information.
Davis, John Tuesday, 22 Jul 2003
John Perry Davis, 78, a resident of Olalla, died July 22 in Oregon.
He was born Jan. 14, 1925, in Terry, Mont., to Burt Uriah and Dora Bell (Nolen) Davis.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Marie (Marvin) Davis. They married
in Port Orchard on Oct. 15, 1949.
He graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1946. He graduated from Brigham Young University, in Provo, Utah, in 1967.
He worked as a chemical engineer at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 24 years, retiring in 1990.
He enjoyed scouting, horses and being with his family. He was an Eagle Scout.
He is survived by his sons Stevan of Forest Grove, Ore., Michael of Olalla and Lawrence of Portland, Ore.; his daughters Grace Ludwig of Springfield, Mo., Susan Davis of Renton, Mary Patterson of Portland, Ore. and Tina Davis of Olalla; his brother Leo A. Davis of Kent; his sister Mae Marie of Tacoma; also 23 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
A funeral was held Monday at the Port Orchard Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, followed by interment at Fraola cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
Blair, Donald Tuesday, 22 Jul 2003
Donald L. Blair, 48, a resident of Port Orchard, died July 22, 2003 in Coos Bay. He was born on Oct. 22, 1954 in Seattle to Leo and Ruby (White) Blair. He Married Susan “Nikki” (Nicodemus) Blair on Sept. 23, 1975 in Manti, Utah.
He graduated from Edgewater High School in 1971 and the University of Florida in Gainesville, Fla. in 1974.
He worked for 36 years in construction. He was a General Contractor at Blair Construction in Port Orchard, was a former Project Manager with Pirie Construction, Lugo Construction and Kirtley-Cole Construction Companies.
He was a member of the American Motorcycle Association, Washington Motorcycle Road Racing Association and Washington Old Timers Motocross Association. He loved motorcycling, his family and his dog. He also was an adventure enthusiast and enjoyed hiking, fishing and coaching sports.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Port Orchard.
He is survived by his wife Susan Blair of Port Orchard; father Leo Blair of Fairbanks, Alaska; daughters Celeste Blair of Port Orchard and Cerissa Blair of Port Orchard and Pullman; sisters Paula Williams of Long Beach, Calif and Kathy Blair of Huntington Beach, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his mother Ruby Blair.
Viewing was Saturday, July 26 followed by a memorial service at Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center. Arrangements were handled by Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center.

Davis, Thomas Monday, 21 Jul 2003
Thomas Watts Davis, Jr., 92, a resident of Belfair, died July 21, 2003.
He was born on May 9, 1911, in Moss, Miss., to Thomas W. Davis, Sr., and Lillie Lee (Walker) Davis. He married
Irene (Roulot) Davis in Port Orchard on Feb. 15, 1942. She preceded him in death in 2001.
He was a shipfitter with Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 30 years, retiring in 1969, and was a lifetime farmer.
He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Shipbuilders, Blacksmith and Forgers, Local 290. He was a trustee and served on Mason County Weed Board.
He is survived by his sons James and wife Elaine of Bremerton, John and wife Judy of Kennan, Wisc., Benjamin and wife Carmen of Port Orchard, Stanley and wife Soni of Belfair and Michael and his wife Becky of Belfair; daughters Lora and husband Steve Wood of Gig Harbor, Sharon and husband Rich Hankinson of Belfair, Peggy and husband Ken Van Buskirk of Belfair, Marilyn Davis of Belfair and Jacquelyn and husband Ray Mastel of Belfair; brothers Clarence E. Davis of Port Orchard and William Ralph Davis of Hattiesburg, Miss.; sister Jewell Katensky of Johnstown, Pa.; and 37 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by six brothers and four sisters.
A memorial will be held on Sunday, July 27, at 2:30 p.m. at Belfair Community Baptist Church. Inurnment will be a private committal at Twin Firs cemetery in Belfair.

Rutz, Leona Monday, 21 Jul 2003
Leona E. “Bettyjo” Rutz, 80, a resident of Port Orchard, died July 21 at Northwoods Lodge in Silverdale.
She was born May 21, 1923, in Pomeroy to John J. and Maude L. (Tuttle) Frankele.
She married
Reinhold Rutz on Nov. 15, 1955, in Lewiston, Idaho. He preceded her in death in 1987.
She graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1936.
She worked as a welder at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for two years during World War II and as a bartender for 40 years.
She raised exotic birds at Lazy R Ranch, enjoyed intricate painting and crafts and loved her grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons Mervin Todd of Hanford, Calif. and Randy Rutz of Port Orchard; her daughter Susan Littleton and her husband Steve of Port Orchard; also four grandchildren — Stephen and Kelsey Littleton of Port Orchard, Alex and Randi Rutz of Virginia and Debra C. Todd of Hanford, Calif.
There will be a graveside service for family and close friends starting at 1 p.m. on Aug. 4 at Sunset Lane Memorial Park.
Memorial donation may be sent to Group Health Hospice.
Bray, Karen Monday, 21 Jul 2003
Karen J. Bray, 61, died July 21, 2003 in Chehalis. She was born on May 21, 1942 in Yelm to Nona Heath. She married
Homer L. Bray in Cour’D Alene, Idaho on Aug 12, 1963. He preceded her in death in 1993.
She enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling with her husband.
She is survived by her mother and stepfather Nona and Glenn Heath of Port Orchard; son Terry; daughters Tammy and Teresa; foster sister Michelle of Cle Elum; 6 grandchildren and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
There will be no services per her request. Inurnment will be at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.
Seymour, Lois Thursday, 17 Jul 2003
Lois Seymour, 52, of Port Orchard died July 17 at Harrision Hospital.
She was born to Maurice and Ester Seymour.
She enjoyed spending time spending time with her grandchildren, attending destruction derby races with her family, and arts and crafts.
Survivors include her sister, Linda Beck of San Antonio, Fla.; brother Leroy Seymour of San Pablo, Calif.; grandchildren Joseph and Tiffany Seymour, both of Port Orchard; three nieces; two nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Shirley Seymour; and daughter, Heather Seymour on July 13, 2003.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Surby, Irene Tuesday, 15 Jul 2003
Irene A. Surby, 86, a resident of Port Orchard, died July 15, 2003. She was born on June 2, 1917 in Hartford, Conn. to Joseph and Mable (Scott) Krauss.
She married
Edward Surby in San Francisco in 1938. He preceded her in death in 1979.
She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lakeport, Calif.
She is survived by her son Robert E. Surby of San Francisco; daughters Judith A. Talley of Port Orchard and Mary E. Shipman of Travelers Rest, S.C.; and 6 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Robert and Joseph.
A memorial service was held July 21, 2003 at Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center and inurnment was at Prospect Hill cemetery, York, Penn.

Gaspar, Jim Tuesday, 15 Jul 2003
Former Port Orchard dentist Jim Gaspar, 51, died July 15 in Tacoma.
He was born Aug. 14, 1951, in Wenatchee to George and Betty Gaspar. He attended Wenatchee High School, and the University of Washington before earning his Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree from Emory University in 1977.
He married
Patricia Hardin in 1978 and together they lived in University Place with their three daughters.
He began practicing dentistry with Puyallup Indian Health Services and opened a private practice in Port Orchard in 1979. He practiced here for 24 years.
He was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his wife, Patty; his three daughters, Kelly, Kari and MacKenzie; his brothers and sisters-in-law Rich and Cathy Gaspar of Seattle, and Dan and Debbie Gaspar of Wenatchee; and his neices and nephews Sarah, Isaac, Adam and Jenifer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Betty, his uncles Ray and Bud, and his father-in-law Austin.
A memorial service was planned for Saturday, July 26, at St, Charles Borromeo, 7112 South 12th St., in University Place. A reception will follow at St. Andrews Episcopal Church.

Dahlke, Katherine Tuesday, 15 Jul 2003
Katherine A. Dahlke, 87, a resident of Port Orchard, died on July 15, 2003, at Martha and Mary Nursing Home in Poulsbo.
She was born on Nov. 13, 1915, in Rice Lake, Wisc., to the Rev. George and Ida (Redlin) Adascheck. She married
Clarence Dahlke on Oct. 10, 1942, in Yakima.
She was preceded in death by her son Dale Dahlke and by four brothers and seven sisters.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 22, at 3 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church. Interment will be a private committal service at Sunset Lane cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center.
