Gisley, Gene Friday, 11 May 2007
Gene Gisley, longtime editor of the Kitsap (Bremerton) Sun, died on May 11, 2007, at his niece’s home in the Boston area.
He was born in 1923 to Ole and Sybil Gisley in Hinsdale, Mont.
He was a graduate of Hinsdale High School and the University of Montana. He attended graduate school at the University of Washington and was awarded a professional journalism fellowship at Stanford University.
He began his newspaper career while still in high school by working as a printer for a local Montana paper. He worked a succession of jobs as a printer before being hired by the Sun as a reporter in 1956, and later became the editorial page editor for the Star Free Press in Ventura, Calif. He returned to Bremerton as the Sun editor in 1969 and remained as editor for the next 20 years.
He enjoyed golf, travel, politics and reading. He spent much of each year traveling in his motor home.
Friends and colleagues are invited to attend a Celebration of Life in Gene’s honor on June 4 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Kitsap Golf and Country Club, 3885 NW Golf Club Hill Road, Bremerton.

Martin, William Friday, 04 May 2007
William Wyatt Martin of Issaquah passed away on May 4, 2007, at Providence Marianwood in Issaquah.
He was 87.
He was born on Oct. 28, 1919, in Hot Springs, S.D., to Charl and Grace Martin.
He was raised in Hot Springs, where he graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1937. Following high school he furthered his education at the Colorado School of Mines.
He married
Marie Sovold on Nov. 26, 1947, on Vashon Island.
During World War II he worked at Todd Ship Yard in Seattle on military vessels. He later worked as a ticket agent on the Black Ball Ferry Lines, then spent 25 years as a machinist at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard before retiring in 1978.
He was a member of Burley Bible Church, serving as an elder for many years. He was also a volunteer fire fighter for the Burley Fire Department.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on cars and church activities.
He is survived by wife Marie Martin of Issaquah; sons Bill Martin of Edmonds and Dave Martin of Bellevue; daughter Julie Ames of Issaquah; brother Ken Martin of Hot Springs, S.D.; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister Grace Mae Ashmore in 1998, brother Eben Martin in 1999, and granddaughter Madeline Martin in 1990.
A graveside service will be held on 11 a.m. on May 9 at Lower Hillside cemetery, 500 West Sunset Way, Issaquah. A gathering will follow at Flintoft’s Issaquah Funeral Home, 540 East Sunset Way, Issaquah.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on May 12 at Burley Bible Church, 14687 Olympic Drive SE, in Port Orchard.

Pritchard, Donald Thursday, 03 May 2007
Donald Clyde Pritchard, of Southworth, died at Ridgemont Terrace in Port Orchard, Washington on May 3, 2007.
He was 71.
He was born on May 20, 1935, in Eatonville, to Evan and Mary (Johnson) Pritchard.
He attended school in Vaughn.
He married
Helen L. Grimm on April 11, 1996, in Lake Tahoe, Nev. His first wife, Nancy, preceded him in death in 1986.
He worked for 33 years as an Aerospace Machinist for Boeing Aerospace, retiring in 1995.
He was a member of the Burien Elks and the Eagles.
He is survived by his wife Helen Pritchard, of Southworth; sons from his first marriage Donald J. Pritchard of Port Orchard, Kenneth Pritchard of Bonney Lake, and Bruce Pritchard of Victor, Mont.; brother Wayne (and wife Sharon) Pritchard; sister Lorna Olsen of Poulsbo; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother Leland.
No services will be held at his request.

McWilliams, Edward Monday, 30 Apr 2007
Edward Blaine McWilliams, of Port Orchard, died on April 30, 2007. He was 78.
He was born July 10, 1928, in Maltby, Mont., to George W. and Helen E. (Youderian) McWilliams.
He worked for 36 years as a shipfitter at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, retiring in 1986. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War, where he played trumpet in the band.
He is survived by daughter Wendi B. Crain of Oklahoma City, Okla.; sons Mike E. Brennan, of Shelton, Eddie B. (Bobbie) McWilliams, Jr. of Bremerton and Ross M. Brennan of Allyn; and five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandachild.
Interment will be at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard.
Anderson, Dorothy Thursday, 26 Apr 2007
Dorothy Grace Anderson, of Olalla, died on April 26, 2007, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tacoma.
She was 79.
She was born on July 16, 1927, grew up in Grapeview, and lived most of her life in Olalla.
She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, gardening and baking.
She is survived by son Gale Westfall of Olalla; sisters Margaret Finger, Charlotte Kelley and Carol Dague; brothers Walter Burkhardt and David Burkhardt; and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by sister Anna Maloney and brothers Herman and Richard Burkhardt.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. on May 7 at King of Glory Lutheran Church in Purdy.
Oliver, Katie Tuesday, 24 Apr 2007
Katie Oliver, of Port Orchard, died on April 24, 2007.
She was 84.
She was born on Dec. 5, 1922, in Harlowtown, Mont., and moved with her family to Port Orchard at the age of 21.
She lived here for 14 years before moving to Ketchikan, Alaska, where she worked as a cook and, along with her husband, in a variety of occupations, from fishing to operating a fish hatchery.
She moved back to Port Orchard in 1989.
She enjoyed traveling.
She is survived by sons Lyle and Bob Rowsey, of Port Orchard, Stan Rowsey of Tempe, Ariz., and David Pierce of Gig Harbor; daughter Karen Sandland of Port Orchard; four step-children, 20 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandchildren.
She will be cremated and her ashes scattered in the Soda Bay waterway, where husband Edward Oliver disappeared in 1989.
Hunsaker, Marcella Wednesday, 26 Jan 2005
Marcella J. Hunsaker, of Port Orchard, died on Jan. 26, 2005, in Bremerton.
She was 89.
She was born on Jan. 21, 1916, in Hawarden, Iowa, to Ervin J. and Glady (Jaco) Waterman.
She married
Rex Hunsaker on June 5, 1925, in Burke, S.D.
She graduated from Hawarden (Iowa) High School in 1934 and was a homemaker.
She enjoyed gardening, baking, cooking and late-night movies.
She was a member of the Port Orchard Eagles Auxiliary.
She is survived by sons Gary (and wife Esther) Hunsaker of Port Orchard and Farrell (and wife Lynne) Hunsaker of Port Orchard; and 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Hunsaker, in 1977; brothers Ervin Water Jr., Eldon Waterman, and Robert Waterman.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Feb. 2 at Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard.
Ross, Mansfield Friday, 21 Jan 2005
Mansfield Bruce Ross, of Allyn, died on Jan. 21, 2005, at Ridgemont Terrace Care Center in Port Orchard.
He was 84.
He was born on Jan. 6, 1921, in Wilmar, Minn., to Vane Bibber and Carrie (Matthews) Ross.
He married
Ellen Weber on April 25, 1944, in Port Jefferson, Ohio.
He graduated from Truesdale High School in Larabee, Iowa, in 1938.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a storekeeper during World War II.
He later worked as a retail sales manager for Woolworths in Gilroy, Calif., before owning and operating a Hallmark Greeting Card store in Watsonville, Calif., for 26 years.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge and the American Legion.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Belfair.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen Ross, of Allyn; son David (and wife Marsha) Ross of North Aurora, Ill.; daughter Carol (and husband Wallace) Beard of Belfair; and six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held at North Mason United Methodist Church in Belfair, followed by burial at Twin Firs cemetery in Belfair.
