Crystal C. Samuels, of Port Orchard, died on Sept. 3, 2007, at Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton.
She was 96.
She was born on April 23, 1911, in Daleville, Ind., to Ervin and Edith Coffman.
She attended and graduated from high school in Daleville and worked as an assembler for General Motors in Anderson, Ind.
She was a member of the Eagles and the American Legion.
She enjoyed square dancing, sulky horse racing, quilting, crafts, canning and was a talented seamstress.
She is survived by daughter-in-law Kay Baker; sisters Helen Anderson and Dorothy Soloman and one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Leroy Baker, grandson Dale Baker and great granddaughter, Alexandria Camacho.
At her request, there will be no formal services held.
Akana, Cecelia Saturday, 01 Sep 2007
Cecelia Lewis Untalan Akana, of Port Orchard, died on Sept. 1, 2007.
She was born in Kolonia, Yap Islands F.S.M.
During the Japanese ruling of Yap, she became familiar with the Japanese culture and language and was fluent in Chamorro and English. As a result, her lifelong passions were Japanese art, dancing, music and creative cooking.
She is survived by children and spouses Ed and Karen, Rik and Ana, Frances, Helen, John and Flo, Vicky and Rommel, Priscilla and Pius, Thelma and Akira, Jacob and Virginia; siblings and spouses Antonio and Heidi, Virginia and Ignacio, Luis and Lourdes, Francisco and Marcia, Felicia, Baltazar and Terry, Lou and Mike; and 29 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband Henry Akana in 2006.
A funeral mass was held at Saint Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard on Sept. 11.
Burial followed at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.
Price, Michael Saturday, 01 Sep 2007
Michael Sean Price, of Belfair, died on Sept. 1, 2007, in Port Orchard.
He was 26.
Mike was born in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, on March 30, 1981.
He attended South Kitsap High School and was an avid baseball player through his teen years.
He enjoyed spending time with his two dogs, camping, fishing, working on his cars, skydiving and skiing.
He completed his apprenticeship in sheet metal and spent eight years at Air Systems Engineering in Tacoma.
He is survived by his father David (and wife Suzie) Price; brother Christopher Price; sisters Ashley Lessing, Cameron Lessing; grandparents George and Marilyn Price, and Joyce Kinsler; and great-grandparents Daisy and Bus Curry, Jill and Terry Hall and Debbie and Glenn Kent.
He was preceded in death by his mother Kimberly Joy Price.
A memorial service is scheduled for noon on Sept. 8 at Christian Life Center in Port Orchard, with viewing an hour prior to the service.
Smith, George Thursday, 30 Aug 2007
George Lincoln Smith, Jr., of Port Orchard, died at home Aug. 30, 2007.
He was 79.
Born and raised in La Puente, Los Angeles, Calif., he owned and operated Butts & Smith’s service station in Hamilton City and Monterey Park, Calif., for more than 20 years. Later, he was the parks supervisor for the City of West Covina, Calif., until his retire-ment in 1990, where he lived in Hemet, Calif., until his move to Port Orchard.
George had a passion for playing and watching golf, enjoyed computers and traveling and loved his recently restored 1969 Mustang.
He was a member of the Kitsap Mustangs, International Order of Foresters, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks.
He is survived by wife Margaret Smith, of Port Orchard; son Roger (and wife Mary) Smith; step-daughters Darylla Jean (and husband Rick) Lermo and Naomi (and husband Rob) Polen and husband Rob; brother Jack (and wife Mildred) Smith; and nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Clifton, William Tuesday, 15 May 2007
William H. Clifton of Port Orchard died on May 15, 2007.
He was 78.
He was born on May 4, 1929, to William Harry Clifton and Doris Marion LaVine in Steubenville, Ohio.
He went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps during World War II.
He married
Stella Bush on Feb. 22, 1951.
He worked for the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office for 28 years, retiring as Chief of Detectives.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, softball, refereeing and golfing.
He is survived by brothers Dan (Shirley) Clifton, Harold (Bev) Clifton, both of Buffalo, Minn.; sisters Rena (Lloyd) Westphal of Buffalo and Dolly Boyd of California; daughters, Cam (Doug) Green of Port Orchard, Bill (Mike) Middleton of Port Orchard; son, Mike (Josie) Clifton; stepson, Scott Tetz of Port Orchard; stepdaughter, Lori O’Leary of Port Orchard; six grandchildren and one great-grandson.
A gathering of family and friends was held May 20. Memorial contributions may be made to the South Kitsap School District athletics program in care of Marsha Wintzel.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the Linde Family Funeral Service of Bremerton.
Reynolds, Jerry Tuesday, 15 May 2007
Jerry Jay Reynolds, a life-long Port Orchard resident, died on May 15, 2007, at Northwoods Lodge in Silverdale.
He was 71.
He was born on July 26, 1935, in Port Orchard to Paul and Geneva Reynolds.
He graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1953 and served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1961.
He married
Marlene Barnes on Jan. 11, 1958, in Port Orchard.
He worked as a builder/contractor in the community.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and automobiles. He was the original owner of his 1961 Starliner, which he loved to drive and race.
He is survived by wife Marlene Reynolds of Port Orchard; daughters Jalynn Calvani, of California, Sue (and husband Kevin) Dahl, and Cindy (and husband Ed) Friend, both of Silverdale; brother John Reynolds; and five grandchilren.
He was preceded in death by sisters Marsha and Marjorie.
A funeral was held on May 22 at Rill Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard.
Oke, Bob Monday, 14 May 2007
Retired Sen. Bob Oke of Port Orchard died May 14, 2007.
He was 66.
Oke was born in Spokane on Sept. 4, 1940, and was raised in West Seattle.
After graduating from West Seattle High School, he joined the U.S. Navy.
He served for 26 years before retiring at the rank of Sr. Chief Petty Officer.
He was first elected to the Washington State Senate in 1990 to serve the 26th District, and was re-elected three times to serve a total of 16 years before stepping down in 2006.
Oke is survived by his wife, Judy; three daughters, a son, and eight, soon-to-be nine, grandchildren.
While a senator, Oke served on standing committees dealing with transportation and fish and wildlife issues.
In his spare time, he was an avid fisherman and pheasant hunter, and enjoyed growing vegetables at his home in Port Orchard.
A celebration of Oke’s life will be Sunday, May 20th at 2:30 p.m. at the Christian Life Center in Port Orchard.
A military graveside burial for family will be Monday at the Tahoma National cemetery in Kent.

Esther Brown, 100, formerly of Port Orchard
Esther Brown, formerly of Port Orchard, died on May 12, 2007, in Wheeling, Ill.
She was 100.
She was born on April 9, 1907, in Chicago to Hilda and Albin Putkonen, who immigrated from Helsinki, Finland, in the early 1900s.
After high school Mrs. Brown attended business school and became an accountant working in insurance firms in Chicago.
After marriage, first to Fred Bruder and in later years to Harry Brown Sr., she was a homemaker and worked at various jobs outside the home including power machine operator in a work glove factory, proofreader for Playboy Publications and was a published freelance writer.
When she was 78 years old she took up oil painting and accepted a scholarship to the Art Institute of Chicago.
Mrs. Brown is survived by daughters, Rosalie (Bruder) Atkinson of Manchester and Marlene (Bruder) Latimer, Akron, Mich.; sons Howard and Fred Bruder and Harry Brown, all of the Chicago area; and 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Don, Leo, George and Arthur.
A memorial will take place at some future date to be determined by her sons at the Greek American Nursing Home in Wheeling.
