Sanchez, Noah
Noah Dean Sanchez, of Port Orchard, died in Bremerton on March 13, 2008. He was 39.
He was born at Clark Air Force Base, Philippine Islands, on Jan. 8, 1969, to Francisco Q. and Magdalena S. (VanMeter) Sanchez.
He graduated from High School at Guam Community College, Mangilao, Guam, in 1987.
He served for a year in the National Guard after training and worked at the Guam Airport as an auto mechanic.
He was Roman Catholic.
He enjoyed tinkering with machines and electronics, fishing and boating.
He is survived by his parents; brothers Francisco V.M. Sanchez and Lonnie V. M. Sanchez of Guam; sisters Emily V.M. Sanchez of Guam, Sharon S. (and husband Andy) Usita, and Eileen V.M.S. (and husband Julian) Quintanilla both of Washington, Jeanette S. (and husband David) Porell of California.
Services are being scheduled in Guam and will be announced online when determined.
Fassett, Harold
Fox Island resident Harold Stedman Fassett, Jr. died on March 10, 2008, at the age of 78.
He graduated with degrees from both San Diego State University and the University of Puget Sound and served 20 years in the U.S. Navy.
He was assigned Operations Officer on the USS Comstock, which participated in the first five amphibious landings in Vietnam, including the first modern-day U.S. Navy river operations at Hue.
In 1968 he assumed command of USS Ashtabula. A highlight of his career was his involvement in Navy cryptology at Kamleeya, Japan.
In retirement he served on the South Kitsap School District Board of Directors, was a 20-year member of Gig Harbor Lions, and a member of Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife Joanne Fassett; sister Mary Ellen Gendreau; children Ted, Susan, Chris, Scott and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church in Gig Harbor at 3 p.m. on March 25. Inurnment will follow in Arlington National cemetery in Virginia.

Trogdon, Jeanne
Jeanne Bodle Trogdon, of Port Orchard, died at home on March 9, 2008. She was 79.
She was born in Port Orchard on March 13, 1928, to Jonas H. and Lucy Belle (Colburn) Bodle.
She attended Broadway High School in Seattle for two years and then her family moved back to Port Orchard and she finished her junior and senior years at South Kitsap High School, graduating in 1946.
She attended the University of Washington.
She married
Jerry L. Trogdon on March 1, 1958.
She was claim supervisor at Northern Life Insurance Co. until 1959.
She was an assistant teacher of square and round dancing for Curley Q’s and for the teenage dance group Russell’s Rustlers.
She is survived by her husband Jerry Trogdon; sister Lucille and brother Joe (and wife Marguerite) Bodle; sons Ronald (and wife Kari) Trogdon and David Trogdon, both of Port Orchard; daughter Sandra (and husband Timm) Gleason of Port Orchard; and six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was proceeded in death by her brother George Bodle.

A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m. on March 24 at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard, with a reception after at Ron and Kari’s home.
Gallegos, Robert
Robert L. Gallegos died on March 4, 2008, at Harrison Hospital in Bremerton.
He was 57.
He was born in Bremerton and grew up in Port Orchard, graduating from South Kitsap High School in 1969.
He served in the United States Air Force from 1969 to 1971.
In 1972 he became an apprentice at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a rigger. He worked as a rigger for 35 years and retired in 2006.
He was active in community events, including the Fathoms o’Fun Festival, for which he designed and built parade boats. His interest in the development of the South Kitsap community inspired him to run for mayor of Port Orchard in 1999.
He was married
and widowed by Debra Foshay in 1976. He later married
Sheril Bell on Feb. 20, 2006, in Port Orchard.
His hobbies included masters swimming and coaching, composing and performing music on the guitar, biking, racing sailboats and restoring classic cars. He was a few hours away from attaining his pilot’s license.
He is survived by his wife of two years, Sheril; daughter Jessica Gallegos-White of Bellingham; mother Betty Widman of Port Orchard; brothers Nick Gallegos of Bremerton and John Gallegos of Belfair; sister Dolores Magneson of Bremerton; stepchildren Jesse Gonzales Jr. of Denver, Colo., Jerry Gonzales of Bremerton, and Trina Keeton of Cleburne, Texas; and one grandchild.
A celebration of life ceremony was held at the Port Orchard Church of Christ, 2585 Carr Lane SE, Port Orchard, on March 10.
Miller, Bette
Bette Louise Miller, of Port Orchard, died at her home on March 2, 2008. She was 80.
She was born April 14, 1927, in Ellensburg, to Elmer and Zella (Smith) Gregory.
She graduated from Weatherwax High School in Aberdeen in 1945.
She married
Laurence E. Miller on June 19, 1965, in Ellensburg. He preceded her in death in 1995.
She was a homemaker.
She belonged to several bowling leagues in SeaTac and Burien.
She is survived by son Gregory (and wife Kelley) Miller of Everett; daughter Pamela (and husband Jun) Aromin of Port Orchard; brother Gene (and wife Dorothy) Gregory of Renton; sisters Mary (and husband Jerry) Hubbard of Ellensburg and Madelyn (and husband Duanne) Carlson of Yakima; and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by first husband Charles Miller and brother Glenn Gregory.
A visitation is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. on March 8 at Rill Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard. A funeral service will be held at Southminster Presbyterian Church in Des Moines at 11 a.m. on March 10. Burial will follow at High Valley cemetery in Ellensburg at 1 p.m. on March 11 followed by a reception at First Christian Church in Ellensbrug.
A memorial service will be held at Park Vista Retirement Home in Port Orchard at 2 p.m. on March 12.
Remembrances can be made to Hospice of Kitsap County or American Cancer Society.
Standaert, Paula
Paul Standaert, of Kent, died on March 1, 2008.
He was 85.
He was born in Belgium on July 23, 1922, and with his wife Marie-Louise, emigrated to the United Stated in 1952. After working for many years in highway construction and oil rigs, he moved to Port Orchard in 1967, where he went to work for the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a pipefitter.
He is survived by brother Roger Standaert; daughters Ann (and husband Bill) Bowden, Maryrose (and husband Michael) Bellert, Carol Standaert, Kathleen (and husband Dan) Benoit, Monica (and husband Don) Askins and Denise (and husband Rich) Firman; sons Frank (and wife Mary) Standaert and Steve (and wife Lori) Standaert; and 19 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; daughter Therese Standaert; brother Basil Standaert; and sisters Marie-Jose DeDecker and Simone Heyse.
Funeral services were held at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard. Burial followed at Holy Rood cemetery.
Sires, David
David B. Sires died in Port Orchard on Feb. 29, 2008.
He was 78.
He was born on Oct. 16, 1929, in Yakima to David and Anna (Swank) Sires.
He graduated from Yakima High School.
He married
Jennie Johnston on Feb. 17, 1991, in Port Orchard.
He worked for 31 years as a shipfitter at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, retiring in 1982.
He enjoyed woodworking, especially making cabinets. He also worked with fruit trees and liked gardening.
He is survived by wife Jennie; sons David (and wife Tara) Sires and Kyle (and wife Joyce) Johnston, Fred Sires and Lloyd Sires; brother Donald (and wife Nina) Sires of Shelton; sisters Doris Jean (and husband Wilbur) Johns of Yakima and Diane (and husband Eddie) Fiske of Rosamond; and five grandchildren.
A graveside service was held on March 11 at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard.
Gahler, Helen
Former Port Orchard resident Helen B. Gahler, of Arlington, died in Everett on Jan. 28, 2008.
She was 90.
She was born on Oct. 23, 1917, in Portland, Ore., to Rangbald and Flossie (Eltz) Olden.
She married
Arnold Gahler on Oct. 6, 1942, in Portland and they resided in Port Orchard from 1979 to 2004.
He preceded her in death in 1996.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed knitting, crocheting and making cut-out birthday theme cakes.
She was a member of Eastern Star.
She is survived by daughter Carolyn (Stan Shaff) Beddingfield of Arlington; son William R. Gahler of Kent; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by sister Beverly McAuley.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon on Feb. 2, followed by a funeral service at Rill Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard.
Burial will follow at Sunset Lane Memorial Park, also in Port Orchard.
