Delphine D. Spaulding
Delphine D. Spaulding, 78, of Newport died April 17, 2009, in Newport.
Mrs. Spaulding was born May 2, 1931, in Coventry, a daughter of William and Delia (Crowe) Sanville.
She was employed by Indian Head Plywood for many years.
She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 798 Auxiliary of Newport. She enjoyed working and cooking.
She is survived by her son John Spaulding and his companion, Gail Parenteau, of Newport; by her grandchildren Corinna Lancaster and her husband, Royce, of Newport and Corey Spaulding and his wife, Nancy, of Derby; by great-grandchildren: Hannah, Mallory, Royce Jr., and Alex Lancaster and Kameron Spaulding; by stepgreat-grandchildren Jordan and Tara Spaulding; by her sister Silverine Wright of Newport Center; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers and six sisters.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Charlotte Griffin Cloutier
Charlotte Griffin Cloutier, 92, died peacefully on April 21, 2009, at Michaud Manor in Derby Line, surrounded by family members.
Born November 15, 1916, in Newport Center, Mrs. Cloutier was the eldest child of Ray Elwin and Grace Ella Griffin’s six children.
She graduated from Albany Village Graded School and attended Barton Academy, graduating in June 1933.
On July 4, 1933, she married
Joseph Raoul Cloutier.
She is survived by eight of her nine children: Victor Cloutier and his wife, Carol, of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, Ronald Cloutier and his wife, Colleen, of Barton, Gerald Cloutier and his wife, Sharon, of Colchester, Rosemary Badeau of Barre, Jeanine Kelley and her husband, Roy, of Brockton, Massachusetts, Rene Cloutier of Jericho, Aime Cloutier and his wife, Linda, of Derby, and Carl Cloutier and his wife, Nancy, of Colchester; and by her brother Evan Griffin and his wife, Olive, of West Glover. An impressive legacy to the Cloutier family is that she lovingly leaves 21 grandchildren and step grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren to carry the love of this most wonderful woman. Heartfelt sorrow is shared by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her devoted husband, J. Raoul Cloutier; by her son Andre; by her granddaughter Sarah; by her son-in-law Paul Badeau; by her daughter-in-law Mary Ann Cloutier; by her sister Ruth Babcock; and by her brothers: Elwin, Everett, and Eldon Griffin.
She devoted her life to her family. She played the piano, enjoyed music, and instilled a love of music into all her children’s early lives. She was a wonderful gardener, ensuring food for her large family all year long. She took great pride in her gift for growing lovely flowers, which were admired by all who drove by her home.
She gently guided her children through life’s trials and was always a positive force in their lives. She was a loving and devoted wife to her adoring husband, J. Raoul, for 62 years.
A celebration of her life will be held at the Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Home on Darling Hill Road in Newport on Saturday, May 2, at 10 a.m. A graveside service will follow at the Newport Center cemetery. Graciously, two local ladies guilds will be providing a luncheon, for all who care to attend, at the Trinity Parish Hall in Orleans.
Should friends desire, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mrs. Cloutier’s name to a charity of one’s choice.

Muriel Esther Gilson
Muriel Esther Gilson, 78, of Orleans died and left this world on Friday, April 24, 2009.
Mrs. Gilson was born August 17, 1930, to Reginald and Eva (Rickard) Noble in Fitch Bay, Quebec. Her family moved to the States when she was four years old and operated the Allendale summer tourist home on the Bluff Road in Newport.
She married
Leonard Brown Gilson on May 25, 1952, and devoted her life to being a loving wife and mother.
She enjoyed embroidering, attending yard sales, and collecting dishes. She had a plant hobby.
She is survived by her sister Althea Schneider of Nampa, Idaho. She leaves four perfect daughters: Lynne Hall and husband, Ted, of Naples, Florida, Kathy Eastman and her husband, Randy, of Bryant Pond, Maine, Nancy Carter and her husband, Randy, of Derby, and Lori Ghelli and her husband, David, of Newport Center. She leaves her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought her much joy. She was predeceased by her husband on June 3, 2006, and by infant son Leonard Noble Gilson in 1953.
A celebration of her life was held at the Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Memorial Chapel in Newport April 28 with the Reverend Martha Peck officiating. Interment will follow in the Lyndon Center cemetery.

Tabitha Ann-Marie Maxwell
Tabitha Ann-Marie Maxwell, 26, of Colebrook, New Hampshire, died and went to be with the Lord on April 22, 2009, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, surrounded by family and friends.
Ms. Maxwell was born May 20, 1982, in St. Johnsbury, a daughter of Christopher and Veronica Maxwell of Island Pond and Sandra Castrogiovanni of New Hampshire.
She was a loving, compassionate, stay-at-home mother of two, Damien and Blake Champaign. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling the roads between Colebrook, New Hampshire, and Island Pond “several times a day.” Her sociable personality always left those she met with pure pleasure. She was sure to make people laugh with all her theories of life and her spontaneous needs. There is a piece of her left with each and every one who knew her, which will be treasured for eternity.
She is survived by her family, Raymond Champaign and their children Damien and Blake Champaign of Colebrook; and by her parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and many cousins.
A service was held April 28 at the Island Pond Congregational Church with the Reverend Alan Magoon officiating. A graveside memorial will be held on Saturday, May 2, at 10 a.m. at Lakeside cemetery in Island Pond.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at the Passumpsic Bank of Island Pond, P.O. Box 412, Island Pond, Vermont 05846 in care of the Tabitha Maxwell Memorial Fund.

Herbert Max Schenke
Herbert Max Schenke, 68, died March 25, 2009, in Manorville, Long Island, New York, after a battle with leukemia.
Mr. Schenke was born January 14, 1941, in the Bronx, New York, a son of Max and Elfriede Schenke. He graduated from Sewanhaka High School on Long Island in 1960.
He enlisted in the Army after high school and was stationed in Germany. After an honorable discharge, he worked for Volkswagen as a mechanic until he retired in 1996.
He loved to play golf and made two holes-in-one in his lifetime, one on September 17, 2008, on hole 18, which is 167 yards.
He is survived by two sisters, Norma Stoddard and her husband, Ed, of Chester, New York, and Rita Nye and her husband Terry, of Barton. He was an uncle to seven nieces and nephews and to three great-nieces and -nephews.
Graveside services will be held at the Nye cemetery in Barton on June 6.
Richard Simino
Richard Simino, 75, died peacefully on April 21, 2009, in Glover, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Simino was born October 9, 1933, in Albany, a son of Frank and Gertrude (Friend) Simino.
He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He enjoyed reminiscing about his military life.
He married
Rebecca Perron on August 30, 1958, and they resided in Glover at the bottom of Perron Hill for 50-plus years together.
He spent his life doing many types of work, logging, woodworking, cutting logs in his own sawmill, meat cutting, and professional carpentry since 1988 with Ralph Vincent.
He was always available to lend a helping hand for his neighbors, friends, and family. His special dog and friend was Timon. He enjoyed cooking and loved to feed family who stopped by for a visit, and everyone looked forward to Richard’s fudge at Christmastime.
He loved his work and took pride in doing a good job — whatever he did. But there was no greater pride than the pride he carried for his grandchildren. That is what truly brought out the twinkle in his eyes and joy in his heart.
Besides his wife, Becky, he leaves his children: Carl Simino and his friend, Paulette, Daryl Simino and his wife, Debbie, and Alfreda Trucott and her husband, Richard; his nephew Jason Simino and his wife, Kelly; his grandchildren: Jessica and Ethan Ward, Ryan Richard Simino, Kaulana Simino, Shae Del Simino, Alarice Simino, and Amanda Trucott Rollins and her husband, Joseph Rollins; great-grandchildren Emma and McKenna Ward; extended family members: Kimberly LaBounty, James LaBounty, Michelle LaBounty, Alarnie Lacey Fellows, Sarah Lord, Nathaniel Walker, Wendy Trucott Allard, Tonia Trucott Pryce, and Trina Lynn Trucott and their families; siblings: Carole Blay of Raymond, New Hampshire, Joseph Simino of Claremont, New Hampshire, Shirley and Paul Valencourt of San Antonio, Texas, Robert “Jack” Simino of Lempster, New Hampshire, Frank “Franky” Simino of Woodsville, New Hampshire, Gertrude “Peggy” Dole and John Dole of Newport, New Hampshire, and Charles and Pauline Simino of Claremont and their families, hi

A celebration of his life was held at Westlook cemetery in Glover April 24 with full military honors.

Jeffrey D. Skinner
Jeffrey D. Skinner, 56, of Gilmanton, New Hampshire, died at Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia, New Hampshire, on Thursday, April 23, 2009.
Mr. Skinner was born July 14, 1952, in Hartford, Connecticut, a son of Edward M. and Ruth (Lucey) Skinner, and he lived in Chester, Connecticut, for several years before moving to the Concord, New Hampshire, area 25 years ago.
He was employed by the state of New Hampshire for 23 years.
He enjoyed playing cards, fishing and lobstering, and he enjoyed physical labor.
Survivors include his wife, Babette Ann (Stone) Skinner, of Gilmanton; six daughters: Emily Lyon of Epsom, New Hampshire, Sara Skinner of Couer d’Alene, Idaho, Jennifer Bojang of Seattle, Washington, Rebecca Skinner of Manchester, New Hampshire, Jamie Mullen of Leicester, New York, and Julie Stone of Gilmanton; five grandchildren; his stepfather, Donald Wustrack, of Connecticut; and brothers Edward M. Skinner of Albany and Gary L. Skinner of Port St. Lucie, Florida.
He body has been donated to Harvard Medical School.

Alice J. Wells
Alice J. Wells, 97, of Orleans died peacefully April 26, 2009, in Newport, surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Wells was born August 28, 1911, in Stanstead, Quebec, a daughter of Austin and Lillian (Millington) Smith.
On October 15, 1938, she married
Arthur Eugene Wells, who predeceased her.
She was a nurse’s aide and was employed at area nursing homes.
She was a member of the Orleans Federated Church and the Order of the Eastern Star of Orleans.
She is survived by two children, Bickford Libbey and his wife, Audrey, of Orleans and Barbara Cleveland of Orleans; by grandchildren: Gail, Richard, Mark, Donna, and Connie; by great-grandchildren: Melissa, Randy, Timothy, Jennifer, Danielle, Jessica, Aaron, Trevor, Desiree, Lydia, Rehanna, and Dana; by great-great-grandchildren: Cody, Jordan, Joshua, and Jacob; by her brother Bucky Smith of Ontario; and by two friends, Gwen and Gloria. She was predeceased by her brother Dean Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, at the Orleans Federated Church with the Reverend Carol Borland officiating. Friends may call from 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Interment will follow in Pleasantview cemetery in Orleans.

Richard P. Austin
Richard P. Austin, 79, of Newport died Saturday, May 2, 2009.
Mr. Austin was born March 9, 1930, in St. Johnsbury, a son of Elmon and Helen (Blodgett) Austin.
He was a member of the Vermont Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired and the Helen Keller Society.
He prided himself on his appearance. He loved children, animals, fishing, and keeping busy, and he was very intelligent.
He was loved by many people with whom he came into contact. He had patience with people he dealt with as he was teaching them different facets of life with which he was familiar.
He is survived by special friends Kathlene Douglass and Jim Jarvis and many friends at Kingdom Way.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 7, at 10:30 a.m. at the Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Home on Darling Hill Road in Newport with the Reverend Yvon Royer officiating. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s cemetery in Newport.
