JOSEPH H. DESORCIE
HIGHGATE CENTER -- Joseph H. Desorcie, 68, a lifelong resident of this community, died Thursday morning, March 14, 2002, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington.
Joe was born in Highgate Center, March 13, 1934, the son of the late Philias and Gladys (Lothian) Desorcie. He graduated from Saint Mary's High School in St. Albans with the Class of 1952. On April 8, 1961, he was married to the former Catherine McMahon.
Since 1964, Joe has served the people of the Highgate and surrounding areas as the owner and operator of the well-known Desorcie's Market. A devoted and active resident of the Highgate Community, he has served on the Highgate Volunteer Fire Department since it's founding in 1962, holding the rank of Chief for seventeen years. He also served as Town Fire Warden for twenty years and was a longtime member of the former Highgate Community Men's Club. He was known for many volunteer projects that helped to beautify the Highgate Center Village, which included the Christmas decorations, the daily raising and lowering of the American Flag, cleaning of park and many more. He was also instrumental in the establishment and building of the Highgate Sports Arena. In 1974, he was elected as the Highgate Man of the Year.
Joe was also a lifelong parishioner of St. Louis Roman Catholic Parish, serving several years on the Parish Council and was a Third Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, Saint Edmund of Canterbury Council #7669 in Swanton. He faithfully served his country first in the Vermont Army National Guard and later during the Korean Conflict in the United States Air Force.
He will be especially remembered by his family and friends for his favorite past time of playing with his tractor Elmira in the woods.
Joe leaves his companion of 15 years, Annette Loyer of Highgate Center; two sons, Douglas Desorcie and his companion Lisa of Valdez, Alaska and David Desorcie of Highgate Center; and his daughter, Deborah Modry and her husband Jay of Lake Elmore. Also surviving are two brothers and their wives, Allen and Patricia Desorcie of Austin, Texas and Daniel and Judy Desorcie of St. Albans; two sisters, Elaine 'Toots' Boudreau and Martha Jacobs and her companion Ron all of St. Albans. He also leaves three granddaughters, Mallory, Chelsey and Gabrielle Baraby; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, March 18, 2002, at 11 a.m. from St. Louis Roman Catholic Church, Lamkin Street, Highgate Center. Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE, director of St. Anne's Shrine in Isle La Motte will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the Desorcie family lot in St. Louis Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on Sunday, March 17, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Members of the Highgate Volunteer Fire Department will lead a prayer service on Sunday evening at 8 p.m. Gifts in Joe's memory may be made to Missisquoi Valley Rescue, P.O. FLOYD W. McSWEENEY, JR.
RUTLAND/ST. ALBANS -- Floyd W. McSweeney, Jr., 61 of Rutland, died March 8, 2002, at Eden Park Nursing Home.
He was born June 30, 1940, in St. Albans, the son of Floyd and Marion (Donaldson) McSweeney.
He was a truck driver and mechanic at Yandow Pontiac in Burlington.
Mr. McSweeney was a member of the Army National Guard.
Survivors include his mother, Marion Neveau of West Swanton; a son, Floyd McSweeney III of San Antonio, Texas; two daughters, Trudy McSweeney Jones of St. Albans, and Michelle McSweeney Coe of St. Albans; two brothers, Robert McSweeney of San Antonio, Texas, and Douglas McSweeney of Alburg; two sisters, Shirley Peltier of Swanton and Brenda LaFountain of Highgate; three grandchildren, Brandi Lumbra, Jesse Lumbra, and Molly Lumbra of St. Albans; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no services at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home.
PATRICIA ANN (YOUNG) RENAUDETTE
ST. ALBANS -- Mrs. Patricia Ann (Young) Renaudette, age 52, died Sunday, March 10, 2002, in Fletcher Allen Health Care after a long battle of cancer. She was born March 15, 1949, in St. Albans, daughter of the late Howard and Felicia (Dennis) Young.
She owned and operated "Patty's Bake Shop" for several years. She married Ronald Renaudette, Oct. 23, 1999. She loved baking her cakes, working at farmers markets, shopping, lawn sales, setting up parties, and most of all, spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Besides her husband Ronald, she is survived by four children, Russell Hudson, Jr. and his wife Joyce of Edgewood, Md., Tammy Hudson and friend Robert Langevin, Jr. of St. Albans, Mike Butcher and his wife Tonya of St. Albans, and Crystal Butcher and wife Kelly Young of Swanton; four grandchildren; several brothers and sisters to include Gladys Cawley and her husband Cornell of Burnt Hills, N.Y., Robert Bugbee and his wife Barbara of Jericho, Janice Proper of St. Albans, Illa Juaire and her husband Lawrence of Fairfield, Richard Bugbee and his wife Judy of Bakersfield, Elizabeth Benoit and her husband Roland of Swanton, Arthur Bugbee and his friend Lauire of Berkshire, Loraine Gagne of Swanton, George Young and his wife Margaret of Enosburg, Marjorie Hemingway of St. Albans, and Dorothy Howard of Montgomery. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Samual and Harvey Bugbee; and a sister Donna Young.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at 10 a.m. in the St. Albans Bay United Methodist Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St., from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the family in care of Brady & Levesque Funeral Home. Arrangements are entrusted to Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.
PEARL G. BENJAMIN
SHELDON/DUFFY HILL -- Pearl G. Benjamin, age 84, died Monday, March 11, 2002, at her home following a brief illness.
She was born in Sheldon Nov. 26, 1917, the daughter of the late Anthony and Eva (Machia) Burns.
In 1935 she married William (Bill) Delisle who predeceased her in 1955. In 1956, she and her son Dale moved to Duffy Hill in East Sheldon where she joined Vernon Benjamin and helped with the farm until his death in 1976. Pearl moved off the farm to a house just down the road where she lived peacefully enjoying life with her family and many friends. She took every opportunity to travel and dance and loved to feed and watch the birds in her yard. Pearl enjoyed spending time with her brothers and sisters and her special friends Betty Kane, Noella Bates and her sister-in-law Thelma Delisle.
She is survived by a son, Dale Delisle and his wife Cheryl of Enosburg; three brothers and their wives, Ronald and Lucille Burns of Madrid, N.Y., Bernard and Simone Burns and Donald and Connie Burns of Sheldon; two sisters, Edith Fiske and Lorraine Tracy both of Enosburg; four grandchildren, Dawn Dugre of Alfred, Me., Candy Levesque of Springvale, Me., Allison Delisle of Enosburg and Derick Butler of Enkenbach, Germany; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Leverton; and three brothers, Elmond, Charles and Lewis Burns; and a grandson, Daryl Delisle.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11 at the Spears Funeral Home on Dickinson Ave. in Enosburg.
Friends may call on the family at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 7-9 p.m.
Burial will be later this spring in the East Franklin Cemetery.

GERALD W. SARGENT
EAST BERKSHIRE -- Gerald W. Sargent, age 67, died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at F.A.H.C. in Burlington following a brief illness.
He was born in Newport May 1, 1934, the son of the late Gerald A. and Anna (Sarno) Sargent.
Gerry had been a resident of Berkshire for the past 32 years and was the 8th grade teacher at the Berkshire Elementary School for 24 years retiring in 1990. He graduated from Newport High School in 1952 and then from Lyndon Teachers College in 1961. He was a U.S. Army veteran stationed at White Sands Proving Grounds in White Sands, N.M. Gerry was a member and past commander of the American Legion Post #42 of Enosburg Falls and a member, past commander and Adjutant of the D.A.V. Jay Peak Chapter #16 of Richford. He was also the rural mail carrier on the Berkshire-Montgomery route for the past 25 years.
He is survived by a son, William Sargent and his wife Fran of Tinton Falls, N.J.; a daughter, Karen Geraw of Houlton, Me.; one sister, Wilma Beck of Newport; five grandchildren, Andrea and Christopher Sargent, Forrest, Amanda and Krista Geraw; one great-grandson Michael W. Sargent. He was predeceased by his wife Rita Sargent in 1991.
Friends may call at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., in Enosburg Wednesday afternoon from 1-3 p.m. Funeral services will then be held at the funeral home at three o'clock on Wednesday.
Burial will follow in the East Berkshire Congregational Cemetery.

PAUL E. DANSEREAU
WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. -- Paul E. Dansereau, of Wappingers Falls, N.Y. died on Sunday, March 10, 2002, at Vassar Brothers Hospital at age 58. He was employed as a Senior Technical Support Leader at Information Builders Incorporated in New York City. He retired in 1992 from IBM in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. where he was a Systems Programmer/Tester. Paul was devoted to his family, his work, his faith, and his community.
Paul was born Nov. 11, 1943, in St. Albans, Vt.. His childhood was spend in both St. Albans and New Paltz, N.Y. He graduated from New Paltz High School in 1962, and attended Marist College. Paul served as a sergeant in the United States Air Force from 1964 through 1968. He married Winifred M. Holohan on Jan. 25, 1969, at St. Mary's in Wappingers Falls. They have shared 33 years of a fulfilling life together.
Along with being survived by his wife Wendy, Paul is survived by his mother, Laura Dansereau of Gardiner, N.Y.; his children, Cecilia Dansereau-Rumley and Phillip Rumley of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Paul T. Dansereau and Abbie LaBatt-Dansereau of Fort Knox, Ky., Patricia Dansereau of Wappingers Falls, N.Y., and James Dansereau of Wappingers Falls, N.Y. Paul had four grandchildren whom he adored: Patrick and Caitlin Dansereau, and Brandon and Michaela Rumley. In addition, Paul is survived by three sisters and a brother, his twin Pauline Williams of New Paltz, N.Y., Alice Decker of Gardiner, N.Y., Blanche Dansereau of Ste. Foy, Quebec, and George Dansereau of Wappingers Falls, N.Y. He is also survived by 21 nieces and nephews; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Paul was predeceased by his father, Armand A. Dansereau and his brother, Armand H. Dansereau.
Paul was a humble and generous man who volunteered many hours to his church and his community. He had been a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls for 38 years. He was a life member of S.W. Johnson Volunteer Firehouse. He was a member of the Dutchess County Fire Advisory Board, and a member, and past president of the former Harlem Valley Fire Chiefs Association. Paul devoted many years to the Boy Scouts in Dutchess County. He was a former Assistant Club Master in Pack 27 and a former Scout Master in Troop 68 in Wappingers Falls. Paul had also volunteered time with the former Heart of the Hudson Valley Drum and Bugle Corps.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, March 12, 2002, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Delehanty Funeral Home in Wappingers Falls, N.Y. The S.W. Johnson Firehouse will hold a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. The funeral will be at St. Mary's School Hall in Wappingers Falls on Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

RONALD STEVENS MASKELL
SWANTON -- Ronald Stevens Maskell, 65, a lifelong area resident died unexpectedly Friday afternoon, March 8, 2002, in his residence on Merchants Row.
He was born in Highgate Springs, June 12, 1936, the son of the late Judson and Beulah (Berger) Maskell. He attended schools in Highgate Springs and in October of 1958, married the former Judith Sulham who predeceased him on Sept. 11, 1973.
For thirty years Ronnie was associated with A.G. Anderson Concrete until illness forced him to retire. In earlier years he worked for the Reginald Rice Construction Company. He faithfully served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and received the National Defense Service Medal. He was a longtime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Charles DaPrato Post #778 in Swanton having served two terms as Post Commander. He was also a member of the Abenaki Nation of Vermont.
Ronnie will always be remembered for his love of NASCAR racing, traveling, fishing, hockey, especially John LeClair and the Philadelphia Flyers, and for his great sense of humor.
He leaves his fiancee, Sherry Vance of Swanton; two sons, Timothy R. Maskell and his wife Mikayla of St. Albans and Ken Maskell of Franklin; two daughters, Melody Ferland and her husband Richard of Franklin and Tracy LaPan and her husband Robert of Highgate. He also leaves his sister, Beulah LaPan and husband Larry of Swanton; three brothers, James Maskell and his companion Beverly of Highgate Springs, Frederick Maskell and wife Barbara of Highgate Springs and William Maskell and wife Dorothy of Swanton; five grandchildren, Scott, Jami, Erin, Cam and Owen. Also surviving are very close and devoted friends, Helen Pierce and Peter and Dorcas Pelissier all of Swanton.
Four brothers, Arthur, Roy, Carlton and Terry Maskell, predeceased him.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at 3 p.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton. Jeff Benay, Director of the Governor's Commission on Native American Affairs will conduct the services. Private interment will take place later in the Highgate Center Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until the hour of the funeral.
