Taber Jason Merchant
Taber Jason Merchant - 11, passed away in the comfort of his family at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington on Friday, April 29, 2011. Born in Berlin on July 26, 1999, he was the son of Brian P. and Nicole (Dalley) Merchant.
Taber was currently a 6th grade student at Crossett Brook Middle School in Duxbury where he enjoyed participating in theater and music. His interest in theater extended out side of school as well where he was a member of the One Studio Theater in Waterbury. An avid reader, Taber loved learning about new things and was recently researching his family’s genealogy. He also loved to cook and participated in this years Junior Iron Chef Competition.
Taber is survived by his parents, Brian and Nicole Merchant of Duxbury; his brother, Parker Merchant of Duxbury; his paternal grandparents, Dennis and Pamela Merchant of The Villages, FL; his maternal grandparents, Michael and Pamela Dalley of Waterbury Center; his paternal great-grand mother, Dorothy Merchant of Duxbury; his maternal great-grandparents, G. Wendell and Evelyn Parker of Waterbury Center; as well as a large and close extended family.
Memorial services will be held from the Crossett Brook Middle School in Duxbury on Friday, May 6, 2011 at 4 p.m. There will be no calling hours. Interment in Holy Cross cemetery, Duxbury will be private. Nathaniel Edward Wells
(December 20, 1945 - May 6, 2011)

Nathaniel Edward Wells - 65, a longtime resident of Waterbury and more recently of Waitsfield, passed away in the comfort of his family at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH on Friday May 6, 2011. Born in Hardwick on December 20, 1945, he was the son of the late Stanley E. and Florence (Eastman) Wells.
Nathaniel attended Waterbury High School and then served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Following his discharge, he went to work first at the Carpenter Farm in Waitsfield, and then became a heavy equipment operator working for the H.A. Manosh Corp. for many years. He later was employed as an equipment operator for the G.W. Tatro Co. of Jeffersonville Co. from which he retired. Nathaniel is lovingly remembered for the care he provided for his parents so they could remain at home and for the love he shared with his children, grandchildren and siblings.
His memberships included the National Rifle Association and in his leisure time enjoyed hunting, photography, traveling and spending time outdoors.
Nathaniel is survived by 2 sons, Marty Wells and his wife, Tracy of Duxbury and their daughters, Natalee and Emalee Wells, Shannon Wells of Duxbury and his daughters, Michaela and Megan Wells; a sister, Elaine Sumner and her husband, Stanley of Montpelier; 2 brothers, Clayton Wells and his wife, Bev of Waterbury, and Nathan Wells and his wife, Mary of Barton; as well as nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Heather Mack of Northfield, whom he thought of as a daughter.
A celebration of Nathaniel’s life will be held from the Waterbury American Legion, 16 Stowe Street, in Waterbury on Friday, May 13, 2011 at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow. Peter J. Hebert
(April 9, 1959 - May 6, 2011)
Peter J. Hebert DMD - 52, of Stowe VT and most recently of Waterbury Center VT, passed away unexpectedly in Jacksonville NC while piloting his personal aircraft. Born in Manchester CT on April 9, 1959, he was the son of Jean-Louis Hebert and the late Pauline (Coulombe) Hebert. Peter was formerly married
to Jeanne M. Grant for 26 years and has two daughters, Kristin M. Hebert and Allison J. Hebert. Peter was a 1977 graduate of Manchester (CT) High School and continued his education at Boston University, graduating in 1981 with a bachelor’s degree in biology and a minor in chemistry. He then enrolled at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine and graduated in 1985 as a Doctor of Dental Medicine. Peter began his practice with his father in Manchester CT, which spanned 13 years, before moving to Vermont where he has practiced in Waterbury since 1997. He was an active member of the Waterbury and Stowe communities and a participant in the Vermont Dental Association and the Aircraft Owners and Pilot’s Association. Peter had a true zest for life and lived every second to the fullest. If not on the mountain skiing he could be seen in the air flying over the green mountains. Peter had many passions. Along with being an avid skier and aviator, he loved to bicycle on road and off, hike and backpack the world's mountains and ride his motorcycle. He is fondly remembered by his family as a Renaissance man; he was industrious and a true craftsman in everything that he approached. An experienced aviator for over 25 years, Peter not only loved to fly but he also enjoyed building his own planes. Peter's positive attitude was contagious. A believer in cutting edge dentistry, he brought his abilities, his knowledge and his compassion to his patients who in turn have expressed their gratitude and appreciation. Peter is survived by Jeanne Grant Hebert of Stowe VT; two daughters, Kristin M. Hebert of Bellingham WA, and Allison J. Hebert of Stowe VT; his father, Jean-Louis Hebert, DDS of Milwaukee WI; a sister, Suzanne McNeill and her husband, Matthew of Whitefish Bay WI; a brother, Paul Hebert and his wife, Sharon of Manchester CT; and two nieces, Elizabeth and Jennifer McNeill of Whitefish Bay WI. He will be truly missed by the countless lives that he touched. Services will be held from the Stowe (VT) Community Church on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 3 pm. Constance Clark Bull
(September 17, 1934 - May 15, 2011)
Constance “Connie” Clark Bull - 76, a longtime resident of Stowe, passed away at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington following a brief illness. Born in Holyoke MA on September 17, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Francis Raymond Clark and Agnes (Draghi) Clark. On April 8, 1961, she married
William Tillinghast Bull in Stowe. Mr. Bull passed away on March 29, 1994.
Connie was a 1952 graduate of Holyoke (MA) High School and then worked as a secretary for the Monsanto Corporation for several years. Moving to Vermont in1957, Connie settled in Stowe where she met her husband Bill and together they ran the former Old Shoe Skiers Dormitory for 10 years. Busy and happy as a homemaker and raising her children, she later went to work at the Union Bank in Stowe for several years before embarking on a 25 year career with the Town of Stowe, first working in the Town Clerk’s Office and then with the Selectman’s office, from which she retired.
Since 1999 Connie was a member, served as a director and had been secretary for the past 3 years for the Stowe Historical Society. Her other memberships included the Stowe Tennis Club, the Stowe Country Club and worked as a volunteer for the Stowe Rotary Club. In her leisure time she enjoyed tennis, gardening, golf, skiing both downhill and cross-country, had a keen interest in local and state politics and was active in the community of Stowe as a volunteer.
Connie is lovingly remembered by her family for her deep affection for her children, her grandchildren (who affectionately called her “Muzzie”), and her vibrancy in all of the many aspects of life she was involved in.
Connie is survived by her children, Barbara Fitch of Stowe, William T. Bull, Jr. and his wife, Jennifer of San Diego CA; her four grandchildren, Ryan Bull, Jason Bull, Lily Bull and Eliza Fitch; two sisters, Margaret Keith and her husband, David of Holyoke MA, and Frances Clark of Branford CT; a brother, James Clark of Holyoke MA; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by three sisters, Barbara Zolin, Sally Clark and Nancy Moynihan.
Funeral services will be held from the Stowe Community Church on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 2 p.m. with interment to follow in the Riverbank cemetery in Stowe. Kenneth E. Griffith, Jr.

Kenneth E. “Sonny” Griffith, Jr. - 72, of Turner Hill Road, passed away in the comfort of his family at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center on Saturday, May 21, 2011. Born in Duxbury on August 16, 1938, he was the son of the late Kenneth E. Griffith, Sr. and Lillian E. (Harvey) Griffith. On June 8, 1957, he married
the former Dorothy A. Porter in Littleton, CO.
Sonny attended schools in Duxbury and was a 1956 graduate of Waterbury High School. Joining the Vermont Air National Guard, he went to basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio TX and then went to Lowry Air Force Base for additional schooling on Jet Radar Systems. From April 1958 until April 1973, Sonny worked full time for the Vermont Air National Guard as a technician and then went on to work for Waitsfield Telecom, retiring in May 1989. In addition, Sonny retired from the Vermont Air National Guard at the rank of Master Sergeant following 27 years of service.
His memberships included Winooski Lodge #49 F&AM, the Wesley United Methodist Church and the Harry N. Cutting American Legion Post #59, all of Waterbury. In his leisure time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, golf and playing cards.
Sonny is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy A. Griffith of Duxbury; their children, Kenneth E. Griffith III and his wife, Annette of Duxbury, Scott A. Griffith and his wife, Ronda of Trinity NC, Todd P. Griffith and his wife, Misty of Duxbury, Craig A. Griffith and his wife, Bette-Jean of Duxbury, Darryl Q. Griffith and his wife, Lori of Plainfield; his grandchildren, Kenneth E. Griffith IV and his partner, Ashley Atwood, Kasey E. Griffith and her partner, Josh Lemery, Timmy P. Griffith, Meesha S. Griffith and her partner, Charles O’Brien Jr., Alexander S. Griffith and his partner, Bailey King, Tanner A.C.B. Griffith, Justin E. Griffith and Eirnin M. Griffith; his great-grandchildren, Jackson C. Palermo, Kenneth E. Griffith V, Olivia Griffith and Owen Griffith; his sisters, Ramona Byers and her husband, Fred of Nokesville VA, Lorna Grimes and her husband, Gary of Ocala FL, and Penny Williams of Fort Mill SC; a brother, Rodney Griffith and his wife, Sandy of Severn MD; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by a grandson, Todd P. Griffith II.

Steven G. Mayhall
(August 5, 1948 - May 22, 2011)
Steven G. Mayhall, son of Anne and Millard Mayhall, passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2011. Steve grew up in Battle Creek, Michigan with younger brothers, Bill and Tom. He earned his B.A. from Michigan State University and followed a career in Finance and Operations at Digital Equipment Corporation to New England. Boston is where he reunited with hometown friend, Marilyn Yeager and where the two embarked on 38 devoted years that were fulfilled by loving children, Elizabeth, John, and expecting daughter-in-law, Kelsey. Following 25 years raising a family in Groton, MA and maintaining leadership roles at Digital and Fidelity Investments, Steve spent the twilight of his career pursuing his passions in Stowe, Vermont by consulting local technology start-ups and acting as the Treasurer of the Vermont Association of Conservation Districts. With Marilyn and their two dogs, he lived a healthy and truly happy life in Stowe, filled with golf, skiing, fly-fishing, yoga, and the frequent company of family and friends.

Kenneth R. Chadwick
(October 13, 1933 - May 24, 2011)
Kenneth R. Chadwick - 77, of North Main Street, passed away in the comfort of his home and family on Tuesday, May 24, 2011. Born in Berkshire on October 13, 1933, he was the son of the late Fay and Henrietta (Archambault) Chadwick. On January 31, 1953 he married
the former Janet G. Martin in Johnson.
Ken was a 1951 graduate of Enosburg High School and continued his education at Johnson State College where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in education in 1955. He later earned his Master’s in Education from the University of Vermont.
Ken began his long teaching career in Marshfield where he also served as the head coach for the varsity basketball team that won a state title under his leadership. He held teaching positions in the towns of South Royalton and Norwich before coming to Waterbury High School. Here in Waterbury he was a teaching principal and was very proud of being instrumental in starting the school’s first Kindergarten program. With the opening of Harwood Union High School in Duxbury in 1966, Ken began teaching Junior High mathematics and helped develop and organize the team teaching approach to education at the junior high level. While at Harwood he was also a driver education instructor and helped develop the driving skills course in the school’s parking lot. Ken retired in 1986 following 31 years of service to the education field.
His memberships included the Waterbury Jaycee’s and Lion’s Club, the Central Vermont Retired Teachers Assoc., St Andrew Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and the Knights of Columbus - Father Galligan Council of Waterbury.
An avid card player, Ken also loved to hunt with his sons at their camp in Worcester, was a proud member of Red Sox Nation, and enjoyed spending time with his family at Fairfield Pond where boating was a fulltime recreational pursuit.
Ken is fondly remembered by his family for his devotion and love for his dear wife Janet and being the best Dad, grandfather and great-grandfather his family could ever have hoped for. Ken spoke often of his great appreciation for the care and comfort his daughter Linda, gave to him during his illness.
Ken is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Janet Chadwick of Waterbury; their children, Linda Chadwick and her husband, Richard Smith of Duxbury, James Chadwick and his wife, Sheena of Waterbury, Lawrence “Larry” Chadwick of Hardwick, Brian Chadwick and his wife, Carole of Orange, Jeffrey Chadwick and his wife, Krista of Northfield, and Ronald Chadwick and his wife, Becky of Waterbury Center; 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mary Helen Kane and her husband, Jim of West Suffield CT, and Betty Domingue and her husband, Maurice of Sheldon Jct; 2 brothers, Carlton Chadwick and his wife, Carole of Jacksonville Beach FL, and Harvey Chadwick and his wife, Pauline of Swanton; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Eli Hubert Chadwick and Robert Chadwick.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Andrew Catholic Church in Waterbury on June 1, 2011 at 11 a.m. with reception to follow in the church parish hall. Mary I. Haslam
(August 24, 1929 - May 25, 2011)
Mary Haslam died peacefully early on May 25, 2011 in her home with her family and pets by her side. Born on August 24, 1929, Mary was the daughter of George R. and Mary (Ivans) White of Philadelphia, PA.
In 1979, she moved to Waterbury Center from Pomona, New York. Mary’s career in office management varied from medical offices to local government and was hired by the IRBA Insurance Company in Waterbury soon after her move. Before retiring, she worked hard for 8 years as the Unit Coordinator at CVH Emergency Room where she enjoyed the challenge of multitasking problems and the camaraderie of her fellow workers.
Mary was an avid supporter to multiple charities and to her local community. She was active with the CVH Auxiliary, the Waterbury Ambulance (WASI), was a member of the Waterbury Library Commission and the Education Advisory Board for the Dale Correctional Facility. She mentored at Thatcher Brook Elementary School and Crossett Brook Middle School, tutored through the Vermont Adult Basic Education Program, and gave her time to several political campaigns.
Mary was most passionate for family athletics, good mystery novels, the performing arts, animals, and nature. She spent many years enjoying horseback riding and schooling students in English style riding.
Her favorite pass time was hiking to the stream or Waterbury Reservoir with her dogs, digging in her flower gardens, catching up with family, playing cards, and reading. She was a loyal fan to the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, Boston Celtics, the PGA, tennis and NASCAR.
Mary is survived by her four children, Valorie Haslam of NC, Chris Haslam and wife Dyan of NY, Eve Haslam of NC, and Taggert Haslam and wife Staci of Waterbury; her grandchildren, Heather Newman and husband Frank of NJ, Nicole Maldanado and husband Jon of NY, Jenna Haslam of NY, Amanda Haslam of Waterbury, Sandra, Danny, Bridget, Maggie and Bonnie Haslam of NY; great granddaughter; Jordyn Maldanado of NY; her brother; George White and wife Janice of PA; by nieces Wendy McClusky of MA and Carla White of CT and by nephew Ritchie White of NH.
Funeral services will be held from the Wesley United Methodist Church in Waterbury on June 6th, 2011 at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow in the church dining room. Friends may call at the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home in Waterbury on June 5, 2011 from 7 - 9 p.m.
