Muriel Hutchins Eaton
It breaks our hearts to lose you, but you didn't go alone, for part of us went with you, the day God called you home. Gone from our presence, but not from our hearts.
Muriel Hutchins Eaton, 90, of Rochester, Vermont, passed away in the loving embrace of her family at Hope Hospice in Fort Myers, Florida on November 5, 2004.
She was born in Granville, Vermont on September 16, 1914, one of ten children born to the late Edith and Edward Hutchins.
On March 20, 1936, she married
John Eaton of Hancock, Vermont, who preceded her in death September 1973. Cooking was her great passion.
She loved baking cookies, muffins, donuts, pies and cakes, giving them away to family and friends. She owned and operated the Rochester Inn for many years. People came from miles around to taste her home cooking.
She loved music, it came to her naturally. She sang beautiful harmony, played the electric organ and a rhythm stick that her father had made especially for her. She was a loving Mother and an adoring Grandmother. She loved life and lived for her family.
She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Hancock Methodist Church. She supported many charities. She was always there to lend a helping hand to those in need. She is survived by her daughters Carol Eaton of Fort Myers and Mary Brothers and son-in-law Richard Brothers of Waitsfield.
She leaves to cherish her memory grandchildren and great grandchildren, Kim and Baron Cohen, Kelly, Billy and Cody Cannon, Neil Johnson, Lyle, Alison and Max Johnson, John Pollock, Crystal Bedard, Philip and Kerri Bedard, Anne Fontana and sons Carter and Kirk, Sarah, Macall and Robbie Meslin. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law Gordon and Martha Hutchins, her sister, Lucille Huntley and many nieces and nephews.
Contributions may be made in her memory to Hope Hospice and Palliative Care, 9470 Healthpark Circle, Fort Myers, Florida 33908. Services to celebrate her life will be held at the Rochester Federated Church, Rochester, Vermont on November 17, 2004 at 10:30 a.m.
Josephine M. Yustin

Josephine M. Yustin, 77, died Saturday, November 6, 2004 at her home in Warren.
She was born on September 16, 1927 in Derby, CT, the daughter of Stephen and Louisa (Byrne) Croncota.
Josephine was a member of Our Lady of the Snow in Warren. She was past president and treasurer of the Warren Alpine Village Assoc.
Josephine was predeceased by her husband John Yustin Sr. on October 24, 1992.
She is survived by three sons and their wives, John and Jennifer Yustin of Waltham, Louis and Patricia Yustin of Seymour, CT. David and Susan Yustin of Bridport, daughter Deborah Pinto of Providence, RI; seven grandchildren Kate, Christopher, Kelly Jo, Jeremy, Melanie, Luke and Logan; brother Stephen Croncota of CT; several nieces and nephews. Josephine was predeceased by a son Charles.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 11, at Our Lady of the Snow in Warren. Interment will be in Warren Village cemetery. Friends may call at the Brown McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Margaret C. "Peggy" Wright

Margaret C. "Peggy" Wright passed away peacefully on October 30, 2004. Born in New York City on September 2, 1923, to Blake and Melissa Carpenter of Brookfield, CT, She married
Eugene Wright Jr. in 1952.
Peggy was always very active and enjoyed tennis, sking and playing bridge with her friends. She was involved with St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Port Salerno, FL and St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church in Waitsfield. She enjoyed doing Pet Therapy with her little dog "Bijou" as a volunteer with Hospice in Florida.
Peggy was pre-deceased by her husband Eugene and their daughter Jessica Wright. She is survived by her daughter Diana Wright of Montpelier, son Brian Wright of Walden, and Mary Ellen Wright of Reno, NV. She is also survived by grandchildren Namino and Daemion Glantz and great-grandchildren Jessica, Nicholas and Lillian Grace Glantz.
There will be a memorial service held at St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church, at the Round Barn in Waitsfield, on Sunday, November 7 at 9:30 a.m., with a reception following.
Hermina Otten
November 4, 2004
Hermina Otten, 97, of Fayston, passed away at Rowan Court Nursing Home in Barre on Saturday, October 30, 2004. Born in Bremen Germany on November 16, 1906, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Wilhelmina (Horns) Wetzel. On November 30, 1929, she married
Henry Otten in West Germany. Mr. Otten passed away on January 2, 1989.
On January 13, 1930, Hermina and her husband came to the United States where her husband established his own business machine supply company in New York City, retiring in 1968 to Vermont. Hermina was busy as a homemaker and raising her family. Her leisure time was filled enjoying knitting, crocheting, bird watching, ice skating and enjoying all of the nature that surrounded their home in Fayston.
Hermina is survived by a sister, Ida Schmidt of Germany; her close friends and caregivers, Betty and George Armstrong; as well as nieces and nephews. Her son, Paul Otten predeceased her on April 23, 2001. She is also predeceased by several brothers.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. For those who wish, gifts in her memory would be appreciated to the Mad River Valley Ambulance Service, PO Box 305, Waitsfield, VT 05673, or to the Mad River Valley Senior Center, 5308 Main Street, Waitsfield, VT 05673. Richard Charles Wein

Richard C. Wein, 84, long time resident of Warren, passed away Sunday, October 17, 2004 at his home in East Warren. Born on July 28, 1920 in Boston, MA he was the son of Abner Wein and Bessey Cooper.
Richard was a World War II veteran flying 36 missions with the 5th Air Force, receiving the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He attended the University of Alabama, University of Michigan, and graduated from Boston University Law School in 1947. He practiced law in Boston for 23 years and was a member of the Massachusetts Bar as well as the Federal Bar followed by his retirement to Vermont.
Richard married
Anne Pratt on August 21, 1970 in New Hampshire. Richard was pre deceased by his wife, Anne and brothers Herbert and Ira Wein. He is survived by two nephews Brent Wein and his mother Cally Wein, and Benjamin Wein and his mother Anne Wein, also stepchildren David and Elizabeth Pratt.
An avid artist, Richard's talent and love of his surroundings are captured in his many paintings. He enjoyed old movies, music, good food, and conversation.
Richard also leaves "Norman Wein" his faithful canine friend and constant companion who dedicated years of love and adoration. Richard's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all those who knew him. His large network of friends in and around the Mad River Valley will remember and miss him.
Friends are invited to a celebration of Richard's life at the Warren Town Hall on Sunday, October 24, 2004 from 1 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions can be sent to the Mad River Community Fund P.O. Box 353 Waitsfield Vermont 05673.
Jonathan Barns Goodwin
Jonathan Barns Goodwin, 53, of Burlington, passed away at the Vermont Respite House in Williston on Monday, October 11, 2004. Born in Harvey IL on June 9, 1951, he was the son of Jane (Allen) Goodwin and the late Charles S. Goodwin.
Jonathan was a 1969 graduate of Garden City (NY) High School and continued his education at the University of New Hampshire where he graduated cum laude in 1973. At the age of 23, Jonathan was diagnosed with schizophrenia. With the help of his family, friends and care givers, he enjoyed a creative and fulfilling life. An artist, Jonathan enjoyed painting in water colors, photography of which some of his photos were shown at the Round Barn in Waitsfield, as well as spending time in the outdoors, particularly on the Mad River where he hiked, went swimming and fished. An avid bike rider, he also enjoyed going for walks and hiking, particularly on the Long Trail.
Jonathan worked as a chef at a community care home and was a volunteer at Recycle North.
He is survived by his mother, Jane Goodwin of Waitsfield; a sister, Sarah Holler and her husband, John of Inverness FL; as well as a niece, Elisabeth Holler of Orlando, FL.
A service celebrating Jonathan's life will be held from the Warren United Church on November 13, 2004 at 2 p.m. Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers would be appreciated to NAMI - National Alliance for the Mentally Ill of Vermont, 132 South Main Street, Waterbury, VT 05676, or to the Vermont Respite House, 99 Allen Brook Lane, Williston, VT 05495.

Pedro J. Pick

Pedro J. Pick, 69, of Warren and the Czech Republic, passed away on October 4, 2004 at his home in Warren. He was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia and was educated at NYU and Harvard University. He was a consultant and former owner of Warren Partners in Warren.
Services were held in Skaneateles, NY with interment there in Lake View cemetery. For those who wish, memorial gifts would be appreciated to Vermont CARES, 361 Pearl Street, Burlington, VT 05401. Local arrangements were made through the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home in Waterbury.
Joseph Brouillard

Joseph Brouillard, age 80, of Warren, VT, died at home on Friday, September 24, 2004.
Born in Holyoke, MA he was the son of the late Joseph and Joselyn (Bergeron) Brouillard. Joe was educated in Holyoke and Chicopee, MA. He left high school in October 1942 (his senior year) to enlist in the U.S. Coast Guard, and served mainly aboard Coast Guard cutters doing convoy escort duty in the North and South Atlantic. He was present at the D-Day Invasion of France and survived being shipwrecked by a hurricane off the coast of North Carolina. He obtained his high school diploma while on active duty.
In 1946 Joe enrolled in Suffield Academy preparatory school in Suffield, CT and in 1947 entered Columbia College in New York City. He graduated from Columbia in 1951 and remained active in Columbia College alumni affairs throughout his business career and retirement. After graduation he started his business career with RCA in the U.S. and Canada. In 1956, he left RCA and joined Bruce Payne Associates, an international management consulting firm as a Senior Associate.
After ten years in the field of marketing, advertising, and public relations he joined J. Walter Thompson Company as Vice President and Director of Strategic planning.
In 1966, he founded a J Walter Thompson division that specializes in corporate communications serving major U.S. clients in the field of Corporate Communications.
In 1980 the name of the division was changed to Brouillard Communications.
In December 1984, Joe, at age 60, retired as Chief Executive Officer of Brouillard Communications, executive Vice President and member of the Board of Directors of the J Walter Thompson Company.
Joe and Virginia left New York City and moved to their home in Warren, VT where they enjoyed The Valley, skiing, tennis, biking, restaurants, and many friends. He became an avid road bicyclist and in his later years a devoted snowshoeing enthusiast. During his retirement he had four Bernise mountain dogs as pets. Joe and a group of friends and business partners built the radio station that continues to transmit from the summit of Lincoln Peak (Sugarbush mountain).
Joe is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Virginia, his son Jeffrey, and daughter-in-law Nancy and two granddaughters, Tessa and Alexa, all of Nashua, NH. He was pre-deceased by his daughter Lisa in 1995.
In lieu of flowers, Joe had requested that memorial contributions be made to Columbia College Fund, 475 Riverside Dr. Suite 917, New York, NY 10115 (memo: Memory of Joseph Brouillard 51C).
Following Joe's wishes the family is hosting a gathering to celebrate his life on 16 October 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the family's Warren, VT home; contact Jeff and Nancy Brouillard at 603-880-3152.
Philip Spaulding Chapell
Philip Spaulding Chapell, age 74, of Fairfield, CT, beloved husband of Allison Barker Chapell, died on Wednesday, September 22, 2004 at his home.
Born in Hartford, CT, he was the son of Mildred and Earle Chapell. He was a 1948 graduate of Kingswood Academy, and a 1952 graduate of Dartmouth College. An executive for the General Electric Company for many years, he worked for G.E. in Schenectady, NY from 1952-1968; G.E. Housewares in Bridgeport, CT from 1968-1976, and the General Electric Corporate Headquarters, Fairfield from 1976 through 1995 as a tax specialist.
An active member of the community, Mr. Chapell was a former member and past President of Fairfield Beach Club; former head of the Board of Trustees of Greenfield Hill Congregational Church, where he was also a past Treasurer; Elfun Society Member; Men's Investment Group; and an original board member of the MICHA Housing and Greenfield Hill Improvement Society.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his son, Philip S. Chapell Jr. and his wife Marinell of Shelburne, VT; two grandchildren: Philip S. Chapell III and Sarah Chapell; and two brothers: Richard Chapell of Andover, MA, and Ward Chapell of Hartford, CT; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2004 at 9:00 a.m., in Greenfield Hill Congregational Church, Fairfield, CT. Interment will be private in the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church Memorial Garden. In addition to flowers, contributions can be made to the Dartmouth College Scholarship Fund, and sent to: Dartmouth College Fund, 6066 Development Office, Hanover, NY 03755.

Cynthia A. "Cindy" Lehman
Cynthia A. "Cindy" Lehman, 52, passed away at her home in Warren on September 2, 2004. She didn't fight a brave fight nor did she do battle with cancer. Rather, she ran from it, finally finding the gentle arms of death.
Cindy was born in Norwood, MA on June 15, 1952, the daughter of Janice (Baldwin) Waters and the late Cornelius Martin Walters. On April 1, 1986, she married
Robin P. Lehman in Santa Barbara, CA.
A 1970 graduate of Santa Barbara (CA) High School, Cindy successfully avoided working "normal" jobs. Moving to the Mad River Valley with her husband in 1996, she co-owned and managed the PowderHound Inn and Condominiums in Warren. Her leisure time was spent enjoying sewing, knitting, gardening and crafts.
Cindy is survived by her husband, Robin, of Warren; her mother Janice of Santa Barbara CA; her two sons, Robbie Reeves of San Francisco CA, and Patrick Reeves of Waterbury; two sisters, Diane Abajian of Burlington, and Judy Paciano of Berkley CA; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A reception to celebrate Cindy's life will be held from the PowderHound Inn on Route 100 in Warren at 6:30 p.m. on September 15. Private inurnment will take place in the Warren Village cemetery. Contributions in Cindy's memory would be appreciated to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre VT 05641.

Richard A. Harendza
Richard A. Harendza, age 49, passed away Wednesday morning, August 25, 2004, at the Willow Point Nursing Home;, Binghamton, NY. He was predeceased by his father, Michael L. Harendza. He is survived by his mother, Maisie Harendza; one son, Ian; one daughter, Morgan; three grandchildren, Jordyn, Nathan and Amaya; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Susan Smarr, Westminster, CO, Judith and James Rawson, Silver Springs, MD; two brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Sharon Harendza, Ocean Springs, MI, Christopher and Elizabeth Harendza, Philadelphia, PA; nieces, Rebecca (Harendza) Young, Alisa (Harendza) Galarneau, Jennifer Smarr; also several aunts and uncles and nieces and nephews.
Richard attended Binghamton Central High School. He was a member of the local Roofers Union and worked for Binghamton Slag Roofing and also worked for Service Master. He was a member and past chaplain at the American Legion Post #1254. He enjoyed fishing, music and volunteering his time to the American Legion.
Family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Lourdes Hospital Oncology Ross 1 as well as the staff at Willow Point Nursing Home North 2.
The family would also like to thank all our wonderful friends for their kindness and generous assistance during Richard's illness. We are deeply grateful. The family will receive friends at the Sedlock Funeral Home, Inc., 161 Clinton St., Binghamton, on Friday evening, September 10, from 4 to 7 p.m. at which time a funeral service will be held with father Jim Fukes, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those wishing may make memorial contributions in Richard's name to the Lourdes Hospice Program, or the American Cancer Society. At the request of the family burial will be private.
