Ronald L. Bacon
SPRINGFIELD - Ronald L. Bacon, 63, died Jan. 2, 2004, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
He was born Aug. 18, 1940, in Windsor, the son of Leonard H. Bacon Jr. and Fanny (Whittier) Bacon.
He graduated from Essex High School in Essex and from Vermont Technical College in Randolph, and most recently received a bachelor's degree in environmental science from Johnson State College.
He worked as an engineer for the state of Connecticut Department of Transportation for 11 years and for Dufresne-Henry Inc. as an engineer for 30 years, retiring in January 2003.
Mr. Bacon was on the local and regional planning boards and the Ag Fair Committee for the Windsor County Agricultural Fair.
He volunteered his time as a consultant for the Springfield Family Center renovation project and the Springfield Bike Path, and worked as an advisor for the Holy Family Catholic School during the expansion project.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Springfield.
Survivors include his wife, Carole (Stone) Bacon of Springfield; three daughters, Anita Fraser of Chester, Bonnie Bacon of Oakdale, Conn., and Patti Bacon of Weathersfield; a brother, Van Bacon of Windsor; a sister, Belva Rietta of Baltimore; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by an infant grandchild.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Springfield. The Rev. William Nelson, pastor, will officiate.
There will be no calling hours.

Harvey G. Turner Jr.
MANCHESTER CENTER - Harvey Gay Turner Jr., 88, a 40-year resident of Manchester Center, died Jan. 2, 2003, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.
He was born Aug. 25, 1915, in North Reading, Mass., the son of Harvey Gay Turner and Anne S. Hackett Turner. He was a graduate of Philips Academy, Andover, in 1933 and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in 1937, majoring in dairy industry and bacteriology.
After four years of training in ROTC at the university, he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Cavalry Reserve and promoted to first lieutenant in 1940.
From 1937 to 1941 he was a dairy technician at United Farmers of New England, headquartered in Morrisville, where he met his wife, Hazel. They married
in 1938.
He was called to active duty with the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1941 as a first lieutenant. He retired in 1975 with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
His business career in management started in 1946 with Sheffield Farms, a part of Kraft Inc., in New York City. For five years he was general manager of the Connecticut Division, headquartered in Stamford. He was later general manager of the Long Island Division, headquartered in Richmond Hill, Long Island.
He was past president and honorary life member of the New York State Association of Milk and Food Sanitarians. While living in Stamford, Conn., he was past president of the Suburban Stamford Kiwanis Club and president of the district Republican Club.
He and his wife, Hazel, bought the Stamford Motel in Manchester, Vt., in 1963. In 1977 they sold the motel.
In retirement, his activities included the Manchester Lions Club, of which he was president in 1970; Greens Committee chairman and member of the Board of Governors of the Manchester Country Club; chairman of the District 1 Committee of the Vermont Travel Information Council; and member for eight years and chairman for three years of the Manchester Zoning Board of Appeals.
Survivors include a son, William Turner of East Haven, Conn.; a daughter, Judith Geriak of Manchester; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife in 1996.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Manchester Village.

Charlotte Sears
BENNINGTON - Charlotte Sears, 93, died Jan. 2, 2004, at her home. She had moved to Bennington from Satellite Beach, Fla., in 2001.
She was born in Southboro, Mass., Sept. 4, 1910, the daughter of Harry and Charlotte (Lincoln) McMaster. She received her education in the Southboro schools and was a graduate of Southboro High School.
She married
Richard W. Sears Sr. on Aug. 23, 1934, in Southboro. He died in 1990.
In earlier years, Mrs. Sears worked as a secretary at Deerfoot Farms in Southboro. Most of her life was spent as a homemaker.
She enjoyed playing bridge, poker and bingo.
Survivors include a son, Richard Sears Jr. of North Bennington; a sister, Virginia Derosia of Marlboro, Mass; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a sister, Edith Ward; and a brother, Austin McMaster.
The funeral will be held at the Mahar & Son Funeral home today at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Morneault officiating. Burial will take place in Wildwood cemetery in Ashland, Mass., at the convenience of the family.
Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home today from noon until the time of the service.

Hazel G. Hart
BENNINGTON - Hazel G. Hart, 83, a longtime local resident, died Jan. 2, 2004, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation following a brief illness.
She was born in Bennington Aug. 5, 1920, the daughter of Adelbert and Sarah (Elwell) Greene. She received her education in Bennington and was a graduate of Bennington High School.
She married
Donald Hart on June 1, 1940, at St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington, Mr. Hart died in 1983.
For several years, Mrs. Hart worked at Atkins Jewelers in Bennington. She also worked at several area restaurants and was a volunteer grey lady at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.
Survivors include a son, Peter Hart of Harwington, Conn.; a daughter, Kathleen J. Keith of Pittsford; a sister, Helen Randall of Bennington; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and an aunt. She was predeceased by a son, David Hart, as well as her husband.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Second Congregational Church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Mary Lee Clark, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Park Lawn cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.

Margareta L. Schenk
BRATTLEBORO - Margareta "Meg" Schenk, 85, of Brattleboro and Moultonboro, N.H., died Jan. 2, 2004, at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Orange, N.J., Oct. 15, 1918, the daughter of Hilda (Anderson) and Reinhold Lindstrom. She graduated from West Orange High School and attended Upsalla College in Montclair, N.J., before going to work for Standard Oil.
She married
Everett M. Schenk on June 24, 1944.
She was a homemaker and volunteer.
After living for a time in Cranston, R.I., and later Winchester, Mass., the Schenks moved to Glen Rock, N.J., where Mrs. Schenk was active in the PTA, Girl Scouts, the College Club of Ridgewood and Kurth Cottage at Valley Memorial Hospital.
She enjoyed skiing.
In 1969, the Schenks moved to Princeton, N.J., where Mrs. Schenk worked as a Realtor with Houghton Real Estate until moving to Brattleboro in 1995.
She was a member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Brattleboro.
Survivors include her husband; two brothers, Kenneth Lindstrom of Tricky Pond, Maine; and Sven Lindstrom of Seal Beach, Calif.; a daughter, Marcia Steckler of Brattleboro; a son, Everett Schenk Jr. of Stamford, Conn.; five grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held today at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Episcopal Church. Burial will be at a later date.
There will be no calling hours.

Clayton A. Rogers
MANCHESTER - Clayton Allen "Pat" Rogers, 90, a resident of Manchester since 1958, died at her home following a short illness.
She was born in Kentucky and attended schools there.
She lived in Detroit before moving to New York, where she worked as a clerk for Hammacher Schlemmer Co.
She married
Francis Rogers in 1940. He died in 1984.
She enjoyed reading and worked for 15 years as a librarian at Mark Skinner Library. She was also a longtime dispatcher for the Manchester Police Department.
Survivors include a niece and a nephew.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Brewster Funeral Home in Manchester. James Hardman will lead the service. Burial of her cremated remains will be in Dellwood cemetery in Manchester Village.

Morton H. Howe
NORTH BENNINGTON - A memorial service for Morton H. Howe, 81, who died Dec. 7, 2003, will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Jinno, pastor, officiating. A reception in the church hall will follow.

Ernest J. Bashaw
WEST LEBANON, N.H. - Ernest Joseph Bashaw, 49, died Jan. 3, 2004, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.
He was born June 5, 1954, in Bellows Falls, Vt., the son of Ernest John and Pauline (Blanchard) Bashaw. He attended schools in Bellows Falls and Keene, graduating in 1972 from Keene High School.
Mr. Bashaw served in the U.S. Air Force.
He married
Helen (Butters) Bashaw on May 30, 1981, in North Fryeburg, Maine.
He worked in police and security work for many years. He was chief of police in Marlboro for eight years, with the Hookset police for three years, and with the Alstead police for one year. He also worked for AMSA in Londonderry.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife of West Lebanon; his mother, Pauline Bashaw of Keene; a son, Tony Bashaw of Walpole; two daughters, Jennifer and Shannon Bashaw of Arkansas; two brothers, David Bashaw of Keene and Scott Bashaw; a sister, Linda Bashaw of Keene; and a granddaughter.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart cemetery in Westminster.
Friends may call Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Ida M. Caslin Rites
BENNINGTON - The funeral of Ida M. Caslin, who died Dec. 31, 2003, was held at St. Francis de Sales Church Saturday with the Rev. Robert Lozinski, pastor, officiating. Burial took place in Park Lawn cemetery with the Rev. Lizinski offering the committal prayers.
Organist was Donald McMahon. Soloist was Monica Murray.
Reader was James Kemp
Bearers were Stosh Caslin, Zachary Caslin, Shawn Mould, Ronald Liporace. Honorary bearers from the Court of St. Andrew were Nancy Donlon, Edith Prandini, Mary Morrissey, Theresa Long, Geraldine Sausville, Virginia Shea and Rita McCann.
A reception followed at the Bennington Elks Club.
A prayer service at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home preceded the funeral Mass. The Rev. Lozinski offered the wake service Friday, when members of the Catholic Daughters Court of St. Andrew offered a prayer service.
