Josephine A. Harlow
Josephine A. Harlow, 84, of Rutland, died Dec. 31, 2003, at her home.
She was born Dec. 6, 1919, in Schnectady, N.Y., the daughter of Joseph and Jane (Tyralski) Bialczak.
She graduated from Nott Terrace High School.
Mrs. Harlow worked at General Electric Company for more than 33 years prior to her retirement.
She was a former member of Immaculate Conception Church in Schnectady.
Survivors include a daughter, Gail Neuffer of Rutland; two sisters, Helen Couture and Sandra Plog, both of Schnectady; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Harlow Sr. in 1997; a son, John Harlow Jr.; a sister, Regina Armstrong; and a brother, Edward Bialczak.
The funeral service will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Bond Funeral Home in Schnectady, N.Y. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's cemetery in Schnectady.
Calling hours will be held Monday from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Local arrangements are under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.
Francis W. Johnson Sr.
WEST RUTLAND - Francis W. Johnson Sr., 76, of West Rutland, died January 1, 2004, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
He was born July 27, 1927, in Rutland, the son of Clifford and Matilda (Faignant) Johnson.
He was a graduate of Mount St. Joseph Academy Class of 1945.
Mr. Johnson was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater of Operations.
Fran was married
June 8, 1952, at St. Bridget's Church to Rosemary (Dwyer) Johnson, who died Jan. 5, 1999.
Mr. Johnson was the owner of Petroleum Suppliers Co., and later Johnson Energy Co., retiring in 1992.
He was a member of St. Bridget's Church and served on the parish council and finance committee. He was also a member of American Legion Post 87 and the Knights of Columbus.
Fran was one of the original organizers of West Rutland Little League and the West Rutland Recreation Department. He served on the West Rutland school board.
Survivors include a daughter, Patti Johnson of West Rutland; two sons, Bill Johnson and his wife Patricia (Nash) of Ashburnham, Mass., and Thomas Johnson and his wife Eileen of Castleton; a sister, Rose Loso of Rutland; five brothers, Joseph Faignant of Hamden, Conn., Richard Johnson of Worcester, Mass., John Johnson of Concord, N.H., Thomas Johnson and Robert Johnson, both of Rutland; five grandchildren, Kyle Johnson, Meggin Johnson, Lindsey Johnson, Christopher Johnson and Joshua Carter; nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, James Johnson; and three sisters, Betty Johnson, Marie Johnson and Catherine Johnson.
Funeral services will be delayed due to family circumstances until Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 2 p.m. at St. Bridget's Church in West Rutland with the Rev. John Herbert officiating.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, Jan. 13, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Mullin-Clifford Funeral Home in West Rutland.

Jennie Johnson
HYDEVILLE - Jennie Johnson, 88, a former resident of Hartford, died Dec. 30, 2003, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 26, 1915, in Shrewsbury, the daughter of Elmer and Eva (Blanchard) Johnson.
Survivors include her brother-in-law, Bernard Rogers of Hartford; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters.
The memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Durfee Funeral Home in Fair Haven.
The Rev. Gordon Naser, pastor of the United Church in West Rutland, will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date in Hartford.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
Cecile C. Mudd
Cecile Claire Mudd, 86, of Rutland, died Friday morning, January 2, 2004, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
She was born on March 21, 1917, in Canada, the daughter of Placide and Mary (Pichette) Duval.
Mrs. Mudd graduated from Rutland High School in 1935.
As a child she grew up around her father's bakery, the Marble City Bakery, where she first started working. She had been employed by several companies in Rutland including the Paramount Theater, Evergreen cemetery and Howard Johnson's where she was a bookkeeper and by the Rutland Herald as a typesetter for 22 years prior to her retirement in 1979.
She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, AARP and the National Council of Senior Citizens.
Mrs. Mudd enjoyed local sports and was an avid Red Sox fan.
Survivors include two daughters, Deidre (Dee) Carey and her husband Doug of Rutland, and Carolyn Marvelley and her husband Brian of South Hamilton, Mass.; two sons, Major Duval of Lytle, Texas, and Theodore Mudd and his wife Marilyn of Mississippi; two sisters, Jennette Earle and Margaret Kapitan, both of Rutland; a brother, Louis Duval; five grandchildren, Ben Carey and his wife Gail, Candice Moran and her husband Bill, Alicia Mudd, Jacob Marvelley and Jillian Marvelley, two great-grandchildren, Alyssa Cheyenne Carey and Michael Mudd; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at a later date in St. Joseph's cemetery.
Honoring Mrs. Mudd's wishes there will be no funeral service or calling hours.

Mary Caryl
SUDBURY - Mary Dorothy Caryl, age 76, died Wednesday, December 24, 2003, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.
Ms. Caryl was born in Sudbury on April 8, 1927. She was the daughter of William and Myrtle (Burt) Caryl. She received her early education in local Hubbardton schools. She was graduated from Point Pleasant Beach (N.J.) High School. She received her degree from the University of Vermont Class of 1949. She had worked for Union Carbide as a purchasing agent and in accounting all of her professional life. She retired and returned to the old family home on the Sudbury/Hubbardton town line in 1989. In her earlier years she served in the Peace Corps in Nigeria, Africa from 1964 until 1966. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brandon.
She is survived by a brother, Howard B. Caryl of Longwood, Fla.; her first cousin, Lyle Burt and his wife Jean of Hubbardton and Fred Chadwick of Sudbury and sister-in-law, Pam Caryl of San Bruno, Calif.; and several other cousins, nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 5, 2004, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brandon. The Rev. Albert "Skip" Baltz, pastor, will be the celebrant. A private graveside committal service and burial will take place at a later date in Lake View cemetery in Hubbardton.
Following the funeral Mass the family will receive friends in the church parish hall for a time of fellowship and reflection.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
Ian J. Holt
WOODSTOCK - Ian James Holt, 18, died Jan. 1, 2004, in Woodstock.
A memorial visitation will be held Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Cabot Funeral Home.
The memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Woodstock.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Union Arena Community Center, P.O. Box 246, Woodstock, 05091.
Mildred E. Chamberlain
MOUNT AUBURN, Ind. - Mildred Ewing Chamberlain, 97, formerly of Rutland, Vt., died Dec. 27, 2003, at her daughter's home in Auburn.
She was born Oct. 7, 1906, in Newton, N.J., the daughter of Floyd and Mary (Weinwright) Dickison.
She graduated from Montclair (N.J.) State College, and taught elementary school primarily in Rutland for 46 years.
She was married
to Manford Ewing and Orlo Chamberlain.
Mrs. Chamberlain was a member of the Methodist Church in Satellite Beach, Fla.
Survivors include two daughters, Marion Cesarski of Mount Auburn and Marge Wilnot of Essex, Vt.; a son, Ross Ewing of Wilmington, N.C.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by both husbands; a brother, Sidney Dickison; and two sisters, Ruth Snook and Pearl Rodimer.
There will be no funeral service or calling hours.
Burial will take place at a later date in Wallingford, Vt.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home in Hope.
Fannie M. Aho
CHESTER - Fannie Marie Aho, 93, died Jan. 2, 2004, at Springfield Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Adams & Kenney Funeral Homes in Chester.
Charlotte Sears
BENNINGTON - Charlotte Sears, 93, formerly of Satellite Beach, Fla., died Jan. 2, 2004, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 4, 1910, in Southboro, Mass., the daughter of Harry and Charlotte (Lincoln) McMaster.
She graduated from Southboro High School.
She married
Richard Sears Sr. on Aug. 23, 1934, in Southboro. He died in 1990.
Mrs. Sears was a homemaker and had worked as a secretary at Deerfoot Farms in Southboro in earlier years.
She was an avid card player, and especially enjoyed playing bridge, poker and bingo.
Survivors include a son, Senator Richard Sears Jr. of North Bennington; a sister, Virginia Derosia of Marlboro, Mass.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a sister, Edith Ward; and a brother, Austin McMaster.
The funeral service will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Morneault officiating. Burial will take place in Wildwood cemetery in Ashland, Mass., at the convenience of the family.
Friends may call Monday from noon until the time of the service at the funeral home.
