Jeffrey L. Cray
SAN DIEGO - Jeffrey Lee Cray, 55, died Oct. 15, 2003, at his home.
He was born April 26, 1948, in Hartford, Conn., the son of John and K. Estelle Cray.
He received his education in Santa Ana and San Bernardino College.
He worked as a certified integrated office systems field engineer for Northern Telecom in San Diego. He also worked for Motorola and Pacific Telephone.
Mr. Cray was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Vietnam.
He was a member and past commander of Pacific Beach Post 5985 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his mother of Montpelier; a sister, Merill Cray of Eugene, Ore.; and a brother, Edward Cray of Newport, Ore.
He was predeceased by his father; and a sister, Laura Hutchins.
A private graveside service will take place at a later date in St. Mary's cemetery in Brandon, Vt. The Rev. Albert Baltz, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, will officiate.
Local arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
Eunice M. LaJoie Rites
ORWELL - The funeral Mass for Eunice Mary LaJoie, 68, who died Dec. 13, 2003, was celebrated Wednesday at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Orwell with the Rev. Albert Baltz officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Mountain View cemetery in Orwell.
Organist was Michael DeLucia.
Pallbearers were sons, Donald, Ronald, Michael, Robert, Billy and Mark.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Sanderson Funeral Service in Middlebury.
Doris Smith Van Buskirk
Doris Smith Van Buskirk, 93, of the Meadows at East Mountain, died peacefully Thursday, Dec. 17, 2003, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Jan. 12, 1910, in Rutland, the daughter of Jay W. and Golda (Blanchard) Smith.
Doris graduated from Rutland High School in 1927, from Roosevelt Hospital School of Nursing in New York City in 1934, and the Maine Medical Center School of X-Ray Technology. She worked as head technician at the X-Ray School at the Maine Medical Center and the Rutland Hospital, as well as a registered nurse in New York City, N.Y.
She was a member of Grace Congregational United Church of Christ.
Doris, affectionately known as Phoebe, enjoyed knitting, gardening and spending time with her family and many friends. She also loved the New York Yankees.
Doris was predeceased by her husband, Robert Elmer Van Buskirk on July 18, 1978; a stepson, Alden Van Buskirk; a sister, Florence "Dimp" Smith Wormwood Reilly; and a brother, Charles "Nick" Smith.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Lauren Pike of Mendon; a stepson, Robert Van Buskirk of Apalachin, N.Y.; step grandchildren, Dana, Alden and Jeremy Kent, Heather Danziger and Stephanie Bruinooge, and Martha and Lauren Van Buskirk; three nephews, Richard Wormwood, Thomas Wood and Robert Smith; her aunt, Florence Terrill of Rutland; and several great-grandchildren, a great-grandnephew and two grandnieces.
The memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Mary K. Onion
Mary K. Onion, 83, of Rutland, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at the Meadows at East Mountain.
She was born Feb. 27, 1920, in Rutland, the daughter of Prentiss H. and Gertrude (Horning) Kent.
Mrs. Onion graduated from Rutland High School in 1938, and from Russell Sage College in 1942. She taught foreign languages at Pittsford High School from 1942 to 1947.
She married
Hugh D. Onion in 1947. He died in 1999.
Mrs. Onion was a 70-year member of Grace Congregational United Church of Christ, and served many years as a deaconess and chairman of the Flower Committee. She was a member of the Vermont State Garden Club, the Rutland Garden Club, and the Union Book Club. She served as a board member of the Rutland Missionary Society (the Sunset Home) and the Vermont Arthritis Foundation.
Survivors include a daughter, Holley O. Moran of Rutland, and her husband, Terence J. Moran Sr.; two grandsons, T.J. Moran of Rutland and Duffy Moran of Boston, Mass.; several nieces and nephews.
The memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at 11 a.m. in the Grace Congregational United Church of Christ with the Rev. Jerry Handspicker, interim pastor, officiating.
There will be no calling hours.

Charles Foster Harper
DAVENPORT, Fla. - Charles Harper passed away peacefully on December 9, 2003. One of his daughters was with him for his final days.
He was born in Campbellton, N.B., Canada on January 21, 1924, the son of George and Helen (MacKenzie) Harper. He graduated from Athol (Mass.) High School in 1942 and served three years in the Army Air Corp during World War II.
On March 30, 1946, he was married
to Emily Chiasson. He predeceased his wife of 56 years.
He is survived by two daughters, Susan Champine and husband Carl of Rutland, Vt., and Jean Cram and husband Alan of Green Valley, Ariz.; a son, Scott Harper and wife Carol of Mill Valley, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Harper of Rutland, Vt.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also predeceased by an infant son, Glenn David.
He was a former resident of Rutland, Vt., for 38 years where he was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
A memorial of the celebration of his life will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in the spring.

Nellie H. Cadwell
EAST THETFORD - Nellie Harlow Cadwell, 95, died Dec. 17, 2003, at her home.
She was born March 6, 1908, in East Boston, Mass., the daughter of Benjamin and Audrey Harlow.
She married
Louis Cadwell on Dec. 22, 1928, and they resided in East Thetford.
Mrs. Cadwell did laundries at home and housework for Hanover (N.H.) and Norwich residents. She held various cooking positions throughout her life. These included the Polka Dot Restaurant, the Country Fare Restaurant, Thetford Elementary School hot lunch program, the Orford Inn and the Hanover Convalescent Center.
She enjoyed her flower gardens, leaf peeping, crocheting and knitting.
Survivors include six daughters, Beverly Hill of Vershire, Dorothy Pero of Thetford Center, Patricia Blake and Wendy Cook, both of East Thetford, Nancy Palm of Amesbury, Mass., and Susan Brown of Windsor; four sons, Louis Cadwell of Thetford Center, Benjamin Cadwell of Lebanon, N.H., Charles Knight of Newbury, Mass., and Peter Cadwell of West Fairlee; a sister, Doris Cleverly of Plymouth, Mass.; 21 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband; a daughter, Dolly Gingras; a sister, Audrey Harlow; and a grandson.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at East Thetford Baptist Church with Pastor John Hartley officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in East Thetford cemetery.
Calling hours will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hale Funeral Home in Thetford Center.

Ethel L. Gates Rites
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - The funeral Mass for Ethel Louise Gates, 94, who died Dec. 13, 2003, was celebrated Wednesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Castleton, Vt.
The Rev. Charles Danielson, parish priest, officiated. Burial will take place in St. Raphael cemetery in Poultney, Vt., at the convenience of the family.
Organist was Hazel Beals. Eulogy was given by Cindy Rabideau, Mrs. Gates' granddaughter.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Durfee Funeral Home of Fair Haven, Vt.
Leo M. Bradley
SPRINGFIELD - Leo M. Bradley, 94, died Dec. 18, 2003, at his home.
He was born Oct. 2, 1909, in White River Junction, the son of Leonard and Florence (Shattuck) Bradley.
He graduated from Springfield High School in 1927 in the co-op course.
He married
Roxana Abbott on Sept. 9, 1932, in Weathersfield.
Mr. Bradley worked as general foreman of assembly department at the Fellows Gear Shaper in Springfield for 45 years, retiring in 1972.
He was a member of the North Springfield Baptist Church, Hit or Miss Club in Rockingham, the Springfield Grange, and the Springfield Odd Fellows.
He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing and summers at Lake Seymour.
Survivors include his wife of Springfield; three half brothers, Tom Bradley and Jim Bradley, both of Woodstock and Phillip Bradley of Bridgewater; a stepsister, Arlene Grover of Bridgewater; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Samuel Bradley; a half brother, Robert Bradley; a half sister, Catherine Fish; and two stepsisters, Hildreth Parchak and Frances Robinson.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at North Springfield Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Cederholm, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Pine Grove cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.

Angela Ellen (Gaiotti) Coolidge
DORSET - Angela Coolidge, age 42, a lifelong resident of Dorset, died suddenly at her home on Wednesday, December 17, 2003.
She was born July 4, 1961, in Bennington, the first daughter of Eugene and Audrey (Gleason) Gaiotti.
She attended local schools and graduated from Burr & Burton Seminary as class valedictorian and member of the National Honor Society in 1979. She went on to graduate from Cornell University in 1983.
She married
Howard Coolidge on August 31, 1985, in Dorset and together raised a loving family. Angie managed several farms in Vermont and New York including Wilcox Dairy in Manchester and Bob Graft's in Rupert. She also worked for Treats Vet Hospital for four years.
For the past 18 years she has managed the office of Country Business Inc. She was on the Dorset Planning Commission for nine years and six years on the Select Board. Angie was the cornerstone of the rebuilding of the United Church of Dorset and East Rupert Church School.
She also served as church moderator for three years and was on the Board of Trustees. She was instrumental in the development of the Dorset Education Foundation in response to Act 60.
She was president of the Bennington Marauders Swim Team and was an advisor to the Burr & Burton Community Service Club. Her favorite pastimes were cooking for her huge family, reading anything she could get her hands on and most of all, taking care of her family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her mother, Audrey Gaiotti of Mount Tabor; her son, Bryce and daughters, Brynn and Erika, all of Dorset; her brother, Bill Gaiotti of Mount Tabor and sisters, Gene Ann Kinney of Brownsville, Vt., and Colleen Gaiotti of Fair Haven, Vt.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at the United Church of Dorset and East Rupert on Saturday, December 20, at 11 a.m. The pastor of the church, the Reverend Dr. James Hopkins Grey, will officiate.
A reception will immediately follow in the church hall. There are to be no calling hours.
