Eleanor W. Carbine
Eleanor Weaver Carbine, 84, of Rutland, died Dec. 16, 2003, at the Meadows at East Mountain.
She was born Aug. 17, 1919, in Hardwick, the daughter of Henry and Jessie (Corrow) Weaver.
She was a member of Rutland Country Club.
Mrs. Carbine enjoyed golf.
Survivors include two sons, John Downey of Cornwall and Tim Downey of Hinesburg; three daughters, Bridget Downey-Meyer of Essex Junction, Cricket Downey of Cornish, N.H., and Dorcas Downey of Clearwater, Fla.; a sister, Grace Bottamini of Vergennes; and 12 grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Carbine in 1998; and a grandson.
There are no services planned.

Frances K. Handley
Frances K. Handley, 88, of Rutland, died Dec. 15, 2003, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
She was born May 29, 1915, in Hampton, N.Y., the daughter of Adam and Vincenta (Dmuchowski) Stokowski.
She graduated from Granville (N.Y.) High School and Rutland Business College.
Mrs. Handley was manager of the Mayfair Millinery in Rutland for several years, retiring in 1973.
She was a member of St. Peter's Church, Rutland Council of Senior Citizens and Vermont State Council of Senior Citizens.
Survivors include two sons, Edward Handley of Plymouth, Mass., and John Handley of Milford, Mass.; a daughter, Joan Goodell of Cottonwood, Ariz.; a sister, Betty Burke of Florence; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Handley in 1996; a brother, John Stokowski; and three sisters, Stacia Boguski, Irene Kennedy and Helen Stokowski.
The funeral service will be held Monday, Dec. 22, at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Church. A private burial will take place in Calvary cemetery.
Friends may call Monday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Clifford Funeral Home.

Eugene E. LaFountain
CASTLETON - Eugene Earl LaFountain, 73, died Dec. 14, 2003, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 8, 1930, in Montgomery, the son of Mildred (Tracey) Lyman.
He received his education in Castleton schools.
Mr. LaFountain was a woodsman and logger. He worked at Vermont Structural Slate in Fair Haven from 1956 until 1969, and retired from Telescope Furniture in Granville in 1988 after 19 years.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include three sons, Charles LaFountain of Rochester, Allan LaFountain of Hubbardton and Thomas LaFountain of Castleton; a sister, Janice Cull of Castleton; a grandson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins;
He was predeceased by a brother, Wesley LaFountain.
The funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Mallory Funeral Home in Fair Haven. A private burial will take place at a later date.

POULTNEY - Winston L. Lapell, 80, died Dec. 15, 2003, at his residence.

POULTNEY - Fred C. Parker, 91, a former resident of Poultney, died Dec. 16, 2003, at Hallmark Nursing Center in Granville, N.Y.

Edward L. Prinsen
SPRINGFIELD - Edward L. "Ted" Prinsen, 60, died Dec. 12, 2003, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
He was born May 17, 1943, in Springfield, the son of Raymond and Martha (Locke) Prinsen.
He graduated from Springfield High School in 1961 and the Culinary Institute of America in Connecticut in 1963.
Mr. Prinsen served in the U.S. Navy.
He worked as a chef at the Hartness House for many years and more recently at Royal's 121 Hearthside Restaurant in Rutland for many years.
He was a member of American Legion Post 26 in White River Junction.
Mr. Prinsen was an avid fisherman and hunter.
Survivors include a son, Edward Prinsen III of Southbridge, Mass.; two daughters, Shelina Lord of Haverhill, Mass., and Jessica Bessette of Southbridge, Mass.; his mother, Martha Bibens of Englewood, Fla.; a sister, Kathy Fenwick of Pickens, S.C.; two brothers, Karl Prinsen of El Cajon, Calif., and Clayton Prinsen of East Swanzy, N.H.; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his former wife, Cheryl (Gordon) Prinsen.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Davis Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Patience Stoddard, pastor of Unitarian Universalist Church, officiating. Burial will take place in Amsden cemetery in Reading at a later date.
There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel.
Eugenia M. Woodard
WEST ARLINGTON - Eugenia May Woodard, 81, died Dec. 15, 2003, at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Aug. 17, 1922, in Arlington, the daughter of John and Lulu Hoyt.
She attended schools in West Arlington.
She married
Douglas Woodard on Aug. 4, 1940, in Manchester. He died in 1974.
Mrs. Woodard helped her husband in the operation of their family farm for many years. She also had worked as a housekeeper and caretaker of second homes for many area families.
She was a former member of Chapel on the Green and had taught Sunday school there in earlier years.
Survivors include two sons, Edgar Woodard of West Arlington and Donald Woodard of Jonesboro, Ga.; two daughters, Joyce Metcalfe of Bennington and Carolyn Tobin of Havelock, N.C.; three brothers, Bill Wilcox and Stuart Wilcox, both of West Arlington and Paul Wilcox of Arlington; two sisters, Betty Perrott of Bennington and Mildred Neron of South Dakota; eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a granddaughter.
The funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Arlington Chapel of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Truscott, interim pastor of Federated Church of East Arlington, officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen cemetery.
Friends may call Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

HANCOCK - Gordon E. Boutwell, 78, died Dec. 15, 2003, at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.

E. Maynard Hall
GRANVILLE, N.Y. - E. Maynard Hall, 83, died Dec. 15, 2003, at Indian River Nursing Health and Rehabilitation Center in Granville.
He was born Jan. 26, 1920, in Thurman, N.Y., the son of Hial and Mable (Ellsworth) Hall.
He worked at Dairylea for many years and was a self-employed electrician.
Mr. Hall was a member of the Henry Hose Fire Department and Modern Woodmen of America.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine (Bemis) Hall; a son, Donald Hall of Salem; a daughter, Melanie Shevil of Granville; a brother, Hial Hall Jr. of West Fort Ann; a sister, Doris Baker of Thurman; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at a later date. Burial will take place at a later date in Our Lady of Mount Carmel cemetery in Middle Granville.

Hazel M. DeCoursey
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Hazel M. DeCoursey, 86, died Dec. 15, 2003, at Bennington (Vt.) Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born June 3, 1917, in Schenectady, the daughter of John and Lucille (Coughlin) DeCoursey.
She graduated from Pleasant High School in Schenectady and attended secretarial school in Albany.
Miss DeCoursey worked for the U.S. Air Force, Air Material Command in Binghamton and later for the U.S. Department of Defense, Defense Contract Administration Services in both Utica and Johnson City.
She was a communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Schenectady.
She enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles.
Survivors include two nephews, Michael McGarrahan of Bennington, Vt., and Gerald McGarrahan of Millersville, Md.; and several grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a sister, Virginia McGarrahan.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Schenectady. Burial will take place in Most Holy Redeemer cemetery in Niskayuna.
There will be no calling hours.
