Phillip C. Murray Rites

The graveside service for Phillip C. Murray, 59, of West Rutland, a former resident of Shrewsbury, who died Sept. 26, 2001 at his home, was held Monday at East Clarendon cemetery. The Rev. Thomas V. Mattison, assistant pastor of Christ the King Church, officiated.

Honorary bearers were members of American Legion Post 31. Flag folders were Paul Poljacik, Lowell Wheelock and John Manning, with James Burke making the presentation to the family.

On Sunday American Legion Post 31 held a service at Aldous Funeral Home.

Arlene M. Dutelle Rites

The funeral service for Arlene M. Dutelle, 79, who died Sept. 28, 2001, at Eden Park Nursing Home after a brief illness, was held Monday at Christ the King Church, with the Rev. Thomas V. Mattison, associate pastor, officiating. Burial followed in South Street cemetery.

Vocalists were Cynthia Wierzbicki and Louis St. Cyr. Organist was Sister Pauline Gratton.

Readers were Adam Fiske and Christopher Fiske, both grandsons.

Words of remembrance were given by the Rev. Lee Fiske, a grandson. Nathan Fiske, also a grandson, offered a eulogy at the cemetery.

Bearers were Christopher Fiske of Signal Mountain, Tenn., Lee Fiske of Milford, Mass., Nathan Fiske of Fairfax, and Adam Fiske of Huntington, all grandchildren; Francis Loso of West Rutland and William Bullock of Rutland.

A prayer service was held Sunday at Clifford Funeral Home by the Rev. Mattison, Pastor Duane Hodgeman of the United Christian Assembly of Jericho, and by the Rev. Agnes Fiske, a daughter, of St. Albans.

Contributions may be made to Sisters of St. Joseph Retirement Fund, Convent Avenue, Rutland, 05701.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.

Lawrence E. Bridgewater

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Lawrence E. Bridgewater, 65, of Fort Wayne, formerly of Brazil, Ind., died July 17, 2001, at Parkview Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Brazil, Nov. 20, 1935, the son of Harold and Anna M. (Garrigus) Bridgewater. He graduated from the Midwestern School of Evangelism in Ottumwa, Iowa, and moved to Nappanee from Brazil in April.

Mr. Bridgewater was an evangelist in Missouri for 13 years and in Vermont for 14 years, as well as in Phoenix and Aurora, Ind.

Survivors are his mother of Brazil; three sons, Donald Bridgewater of Boxboro, Mass., Steven Bridgewater of Topeka, Kan., and Alan Bridgewater of Redmond, Wash.; two daughters, Brenda Bonilla of Rutland, Vt., and Amy Severy of Nappanee; five grandchildren; four sisters, Mary Ellen Cunningham of Topeka, Judy Conaway of Nebraska, Janice Piatt and Elaine Bridgewater, both of Brazil, and a brother, Darrell Bridgewater of Brazil. He was predeceased by two sisters, Bonnie Lewis and Marilyn Tallman.

A memorial service was held July 21, 2001 in Brazil, officiated by his brother-in-law, Richard Piatt.

The graveside service will be Saturday, Oct. 6, at 4 p.m. at The Church of Christ in Rutland. Richard Merrill will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be given to any charity of your choice or The Church of Christ, 67 Dorr Drive, Rutland, 05701.

Elizabeth A. Moore Rites

WEST BRATTLEBORO — A remembrance service for Elizabeth A. (Green) Lake Moore, who died Aug. 18, 2001 at Harborside Westwood Nursing Home in Keene, N.H., was held Sept. 9 at West Brattleboro cemetery. Pastor Jay Sabine of West Brattleboro Church officiated.

Mrs. Moore was born in Poultney on May 18, 1915.

Reminisces were offered by her sister-in-law, Mabel L. Wescott of Poultney, who also recited the 23rd Psalm.

A granddaughter, Debbie Zacheeo, played guitar and sang a song that she wrote, accompanied by Mrs. Moore’s niece, Velma Reed of Poultney. Other selections were rendered by them and nieces, Pauline Wescott and Phyllis Reed.

Words of tribute were also offered by Patti Knights, Denny Bills, Karen Russell and Elizabeth Doody, all granddaughters.

Andrew S. Berky

DORSET — Andrew S. Berky, 79, died Sept. 12, 2001, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center after a long illness.

He was born in Boyertown, Pa., and attended Blair Academy and Williams College.

After serving as a Navy flier during World War II, he graduated from Franklin and Marshall College in Pennsylvania.

Author and editor of a number of historical books, Mr. Berky served as headmaster of the Perkiomen School in Pennsylvania. He left Perkiomen to serve as a national Peace Corps coordinator in the African nation of Lesotho.

Soon after leaving the Peace Corps, he moved to Dorset where he was president of the Dorset Historical Society for four years.

Survivors include his wife, Edith; a son, Chris; two daughters, Melissa and Rebecca; and a granddaughter.

Beryl I. Palmer

BENNINGTON — Beryl I. Palmer, 83, died Sept. 30, 2001 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center after a long illness.

The funeral will be held at Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Friends may call Wednesday from noon until the time of the service.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Park Lawn cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to either the Pownal Valley Fire Dept., or Special Olympics through the office of Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington 05201.

The Rev. Casimir J. Cichanowicz

ENGLEWOOD, Fla. — The Rev. Casimir J. Cichanowicz, 87, died in Englewood on Sept. 30, 2001.

He was born Nov. 2, 1913, in Montreal, Canada, the son of John and Helen (Stankiewicz) Cichanowicz, and moved with his family to Springfield, Vt., where he spent his early years.

He was a professed member of the Society of St. Edmund for 64 years and an ordained priest for 58 years.

The Rev. Cichanowicz graduated in 1939 from St. Michael’s College in Colchester, Vt., and pursued the continuing education program for priests in Rome in 1975.

Most of his Edmundite life was devoted to ministry in parishes of the Edmundite Southern Missions. His parochial assignments included All Saints parish in Anniston, Ala. (1943-1946 and 1980-1981), St. Martin de Porres parish in Gadsden, Ala. (1946-1952), St. Elizabeth parish in Selma, Ala. (1952-1958), St. Philip Neri parish in Bellefontaine, Ala. (1958-1966), St. Edmund-by-the-Sea parish on Dauphin Island, Ala. (1966-1971 and 1984-1993), Our Lady of Lourdes parish in Mobile, Ala (1971-1974), St. Catherine and St. Elizabeth parishes in Elizabeth City, N.C. (1975-1980), Queen of Peace parish in Selma, Ala. (1981-1982), and Immaculate Conception parish in Orville, Ala. (1982-1984). He also served as local superior in Selma from 1952 to 1958. Since retiring in 1993 he had resided at the Edmundite residence in Englewood.

In addition to his brothers in religion, the Rev. Cichanowicz is survived by four sisters, Mary Stankiewicz of Oneonta, N.Y., Julia Olney of North Springfield, Vt., Bea Sawicki of Southold, N.Y., and Josephine Parmenter of Brattleboro, Vt.

Visiting hours will be Wednesday, Oct. 3, at the Edmundite Memorial Chapel, 1401 Broad St., Selma, from 7 to 9 p.m. with a wake service at 8 p.m.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday at Queen of Peace Parish in Selma at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Fairlawn Memory Gardens cemetery in Selma.

A memorial service will also be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. in the chapel at the Edmundite residence on West Harvard Street in Englewood.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be sent to the Edmundite Southern Missions, 1428 Broad St., Selma, Ala., 36701.

William D. Walker

SPRINGFIELD — The memorial service for William D. Walker, 85, who died Aug. 22, 2001, will be held Saturday, Oct. 6, at 11 a.m. in Davis Memorial Chapel.

Officiating will be a son, Peter Randall, Robert Forguites of the Springfield Rotary Club and Bruce Corwin of the Grafton Cornet Band.

Arrangements are under the direction of Davis Memorial Chapel.

John B. Harte

BENNINGTON — The Honorable John B. Harte, 83, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Mahar and Son Funeral Home.

Simone Quesnel

MIDDLEBURY — Simone Quesnel, 86, died Oct. 1, 2001, at Porter Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 3, 1914, in Caselman, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Clovis and Amelia (Mon Petit) Faubert.

She married Ernest Quesnel on Aug. 23, 1937, in St. Genevieve’s Church in Shoreham.

She was a homemaker and farmed with her husband in Whiting until 1959. The couple then moved to Middlebury where Mr. Quesnel worked as a carpenter and the couple raised their children. He died Sept. 27, 1983.

Survivors are her children, Roger Quesnel of Middlebury, and Jeanne Laroche of Salisbury; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by three children Roger, Madeline and Roland; and her siblings, Armand Faubert and Fernande Quesnel.

The memorial service will be celebrated on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Middlebury. The Rev. Denis Breton, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Middlebury Volunteer Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 504, Middlebury, 05753; Porter Medical Center, South Street, Middlebury, 05753; or to a favorite charity.

The Sanderson Funeral Service is in care of arrangements.

Irene E. Baker

BENSON — Irene Evelyn Baker, 93, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, in Rutland.

She was born in Goshen, May 22, 1908, the daughter of Henry O. and Ida (Trombley) Jones.

She had worked as a cook at the Brandon Inn and also at Keewaydin Camps on Lake Dunmore.

Later she worked at the former Brandon Training School before her retirement.

Mrs. Baker was a member of Brandon United Methodist Church and Benson United Methodist Church where she enjoyed playing the organ.

She took up painting in her later years.

Survivors include two sons, Lawrence Baker of Pittsford, and Norman Baker of North Clarendon; a daughter, Gertrude Hathaway of Benson; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, George A. Baker in 1992; four brothers, Frank, Ranny, Stewart and William; and three sisters, Nettie Devino, Myrtle Bissette and Ada Bassett.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Pine Hill cemetery in Brandon. Officiating will be Bertram Coolidge. A reception to receive family and friends will follow in the fellowship hall of Brandon United Methodist Church at the corner of Franklin and Carver streets.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Brandon United Methodist Church, 38 Carver St., Brandon, 05733.

Arrangements are under the care of the Sanderson Funeral Service, Middlebury, 05753.

Jessie K. Dahlin Rites

SALISBURY — The memorial service for Jessie Kirby Dahlin, who died Sept. 26, 2001, was held Monday at East Middlebury Methodist Church. The Rev. Richard Neal, pastor, officiated.

Organist was Ann Rowell.

Burial followed in Prospect cemetery in East Middlebury.

Following the service the family received friends at a reception held at Ernest and Jessie’s home on Upper Plains Road.

The Sanderson Funeral Service in Middlebury was in charge of arrangements.

Marion A. Duncan

The graveside service for Marion A. Duncan, 83, of Rutland, who died Nov. 16, 2003, will be held Monday at 2:30 p.m. in Evergreen cemetery. The Rev. Daniel VanLuven, pastor of Assembly of God, Roadside Chapel, will officiate.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rutland County Humane Society Inc., P.O. Box 558, Pittsford, 05763.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Aldous Funeral Home in Rutland.
