Martin E. Devlin
POULTNEY — Martin E. Devlin, age 49, passed away at his home in Poultney on Thursday, September 5, 2002, after a courageous seven month battle with a brain tumor.
Born in New Haven, Connecticut, September 12, 1952, he was the son of the late Edmund R. Devlin and Ann (Bradley) Devlin of Hamden, Connecticut.
Mr. Devlin was a graduate of Hamden High School, the American University, and the Yale University Physician Associate Program.
He was employed by Hudson Headwaters Primary Care on Broad Street in Glens Falls prior to his illness. He was also the former Health Officer of Poultney, Vermont.
As a loving father, Mr. Devlin took great pride in sharing activities with his three sons. He was an avid runner and ran in the New York City Marathon three times.
He very much enjoyed maple sugaring at his home in Poultney.
Survivors in addition to his mother, Ann B. Devlin of Hamden, Conn., include his wife, Kerin (Kerry) Devlin of Poultney, Vt.; three sons, Timothy P. Devlin, Dylan M. Devlin and Daniel M. Devlin, all of Poultney, Vt.; and one brother, Daniel R. Devlin and his wife Lisa of Silver Spring, Maryland.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home, 266 Allen Avenue, Poultney, Vermont.
A Memorial Mass will take place Monday, 10 a.m. at the Church of St. Raphael the Archangel, Poultney, Vermont. The Rev. Adam J. Krempa will officiate.
Interment will follow at the family plot of the Poultney cemetery.

Eleanor M. Waite
PAWLET — Eleanor M. Waite, 83, died Sept. 6, 2002, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
She was born June 10, 1919, in Hudson Falls, N.Y., the daughter of Howard and Gertrude (Gray) Roblee.
Mrs. Waite had been employed by the United States Postal Service in the Pawlet Post Office.
She enjoyed reading and writing letters.
Survivors include a son, Roblee Waite of Pawlet; a daughter, Susan Smith of Grand Isle; one grandson and two granddaughters.
She was predeceased by her husband, Percy Waite in 1992; a daughter; and a granddaughter.
The funeral service will be held Monday at 4 p.m. at the Robert M. King Funeral Home in Granville, N.Y. Burial will take place at a later date in Mettowee Valley cemetery in Pawlet.
Friends may call Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert M. King Funeral Home.
Normand Croteau
WEST DANVILLE — Normand Croteau, 44, a former resident of Brandon, died Sept. 4, 2002, at his home.
He was born Sept. 19, 1957, the son of Normand Sr. and Pauline (Lanoue) Croteau.
He graduated from Rhode Island College with a bachelor’s degree and Norwich University in Vermont with a master’s degree.
Mr. Croteau was a licensed clinical psychologist, and was currently employed at Northeast Kingdom Mental Health. He had previously opened his own practice in Brandon and Rochester.
He was a member of St. Agatha’s Church in Woonsocket, R.I.
He enjoyed helping people, and had been an active member of Youth Ministry in his parish where he played guitar and ministered to the young.
Survivors include his wife, Susan whom he married
on June 25, 1977; a son, Jason Croteau of West Danville; two daughters, Bethany Croteau of Steubenville, Ohio and Amy Croteau of Putney; his father of Woonsocket, R.I.; a sister, Debra Conley of Seekonk, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother; and two brothers, Bobby and Tommy.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated today at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church in St. Johnsbury with the Rev. Patrick Forman officiating.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 14, at St. Agatha’s Catholic Church in Woonsocket, R.I.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the children’s services at Northeast Kingdom Mental Health, in care of Carol Boucher, P.O. Box 724, Newport, Vt., 05855.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Sayles Funeral Home in St. Johnsbury.
James A. Jennings
SOUTH WOODSTOCK — James A. Jennings, 71, died Sept. 6, 2002, at Mount Ascutney Medical Center after with cancer.
He was born in Burlington.
He graduated from St. Michael’s High School in Montpelier in 1948, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute of Troy, N.Y., in 1953 and Western New England College in 1967 with an master’s degree.
Mr. Jennings was employed by Hamilton Standard/United Technologies of Windsor Locks, Conn., for nearly 30 years. He holds patents for aircraft propeller design and was a pioneer in the use of wind turbines. After retiring from Hamilton Standard, he worked for IBM in Essex Junction for six years.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in the Korean War.
While living in Suffield, Conn., he was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and taught religion classes. He was the vice president of National Alliance for the Mentally Ill in Vermont, and a member of the Vermont Board of Mental Health and the Department of Mental Health Standing Committee.
He had coached Little League in Suffield, Conn., for seven years, and was an avid skier, bicyclist and outdoorsman.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Patricia (Holland) Jennings of South Woodstock; a son, Thomas Jennings of Springfield; two daughters, Anne Soucy of Granby, Conn., and Mary Hoyt of Seattle, Wash.; two brothers, David Jennings of Charlestown, N.H., and Terrance Jennings of Vergennes; seven grandchildren; and 17 nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Mark Jennings; and a son, Michael Jennings.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Woodstock.
Burial will take place at a later date in Fairview cemetery in Hardwick.
Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock.

Walter A. Hersom
MANCHESTER — Walter Atkins Hersom, 67, died Sept. 5, 2002, at his home.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Manchester with the Rev. Claire Longtin North officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Brewster Funeral Service in Manchester Center.
Kenneth L. Holmquist
BRATTLEBORO — Kenneth Leroy Holmquist, 75, died Sept. 5, 2002, at his home.
He was born Sept. 1, 1927, in Brattleboro, the son of Carl and Beatrice (Williams) Holmquist.
He graduated from Brattleboro High School in 1945.
He worked in the automotive trade for many years and received many awards for his salesmanship.
Mr. Holmquist was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in World War II.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars 1034, American Legion Post 5, the Brattleboro Lodge 102 F&AM, Cairo Shrine Temple in Rutland, Brattleboro Shrine Club and the Shrine Skimobile Unit in Brattleboro.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Eloine (Foster) Holmquist; four sons, Duane Holmquist of Vernon, Bruce Holmquist of Boyds, Md., Scott Holmquist of Rutland and Craig Holmquist of Waxahachie, Texas; two daughters, Brenda Johnson of Colchester and Susan Kapral of Brattleboro; two brothers, Stanley Holmquist of Rochester and Phillip Holmquist of Brattleboro; 14 grandchildren an one great-granddaughter.
He was predeceased by a sister, Vivian Benjamin.
Calling hours will be held Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. at the Masonic Temple in Brattleboro, with a service to celebrate his life following at 2 p.m. Burial will take place at a later date in Meetinghouse Hill cemetery in Brattleboro.

Jennifer R. Hector
NEWPORT, N.H. — Jennifer Reilly Hector, 38, died Sept. 3, 2002, in Ticonderoga, N.Y., as a result of a car accident.
She was born Aug. 25, 1964, in Newburyport, Mass.
She graduated from Newburyport High School in 1982 and Clarke University in 1986 with a bachelor’s degree.
She married
Eric Hector on May 31, 1997.
Mrs. Hector worked for Youth With a Mission in Springdale, Ark., as a missionary from 1986 to 1990, and then became director of Dayspring Pregnancy Care Center in Lebanon until 1998.
She enjoyed sewing and made quilts for everyone she knew. She was an avid gardener and a creative decorator.
Survivors include her husband and two sons, Samuel and Josiah, all of Newport; her parents, Ann and John Wood of Fair Haven, Vt.; two sisters, Jeannie Hanson of Winchester, Va., and Wendy Chace of Lebanon; two brothers, Sean Reilly of Haverhill, Mass., and John Wood Jr., of Pennsylvania; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held today at 1 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Windsor, Vt.

Oscar V. Johnson Jr. Rites
MANCHESTER — The funeral service for Oscar Victor Johnson Jr., 90, who died Sept. 2, 2002, was held Friday at the First Congregational Church in Manchester with the Rev. Steven E. Berry, pastor, officiating.
Burial followed in Dellwood cemetery.
Organist was Linda Hueckle.
Pallbearers were George Williams, David Pardo, Terry Bruce, T.J. Lillie, Hamilton Hayes, Jake Petrovsky, Howard Bleakie and Lynn Holton. Honorary bearers were Raymond Koch and Don Keeland.
A reception was held in the gardens of Hildene following the service.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Brewster Funeral Service in Manchester Center.
Dorothy M. Gibson Rites
SPRINGFIELD — The graveside service for Dorothy Mary Gibson, 91, who died Aug. 30, 2002, was held Friday in Cavendish Village cemetery with the Rev. Abraham Gross, pastor of the Cavendish Baptist Church, officiating.
A reception was held in the vestry at the Cavendish Baptist Church following the service.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel.

GRANVILLE, N.Y. — The funeral service for Michael S. Mulhull Sr., who died Sept. 6, 2002, will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Robert M. King Funeral Home in Granville.
