Adelaide Graf
NORTHFIELD — Adelaide Graf, 97, formerly of Randolph, died June 19, 2003, at Mayo Healthcare in Northfield.
She was born Nov. 5, 1905, in Caplan, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Timothy and Rachelle (Bourdage) Garant.
She attended Caplan, Quebec, schools, and later moved to New York to study hairstyling.
She married
Ernest Graf in the early 1940s. He predeceased her.
Mrs. Graf and her husband owned and operated a watch-making business in New York City for many years.
After the death of her husband, she moved to Vermont where she was a member of the Chelsea Woman’s Club.
She enjoyed gardening, walking, crocheting, knitting, and doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles.
Survivors include her daughter, Luise Graf of South Rygate; three sisters; a brother; and a grandson.
A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.
William B. McQuillen
William Bryant McQuillen, 54, of Rutland died June 20, 2003, at his home.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Aldous Funeral Home in Rutland.
Dolores B. King
NORTH CLARENDON — Dolores B. King, 74, died June 20, 2003, at her home.
She was born Feb. 11, 1929.
She married
Daniel King in 1947.
Survivors include four sons, John of Visalia, Calif., David of Colorado Springs, Colo., Marcus of Biscoe, N.C., and Dean of Proctor; a daughter, Alicia Smith; 14 grandsons; four granddaughters; and many great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband and a grandson.
Friends are invited to stop at her home Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Southwestern Vermont Council on Aging Inc., 1085 Route 4 East, Rutland Town, in care of Helen Hill, to purchase equipment for the handicapped.
Clarence S. Bishop
POULTNEY — Clarence S. Bishop, 76, died June 22, 2003, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

Marjorie E. Robertson
The graveside service for Marjorie E. (Horne) Robertson, 77, of Rutland, who died March 8, 2003, will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in St. Joseph’s cemetery in Rutland.

Shirley K. Boylan
PITTSFIELD — The graveside service for Shirley K. Boylan, 84, will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Pittsfield Village cemetery with the Rev. Ron Sherwin, pastor, officiating.

Stanley A. Pyenta Rites
POULTNEY — The funeral Mass for Stanley A. Pyenta, 93, who died June 20, 2003, was celebrated Monday at St. Raphael’s Church in Poultney with the Rev. Richard Tinney officiating. Burial followed in St. Raphael’s cemetery in Poultney.
Organist was Cathy VanGuilder.
Bearers were Michael Novia, Richard Novia, Derek Perry, Scott Perry, Michael Novia and Richard Novia Jr.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home in Poultney.
Andrew E. Grover
Andrew Earl Grover, 43, of Rutland died June 19, 2003, at his residence.
He was born March 8, 1960, in Bellows Falls, the son of Earl Grover and Frances Renaud.
He attended Brattleboro Union High School.
Mr. Grover relocated to Rutland in 1999 and worked for Martin Grover Roofing.
He was a collector of comic books, baseball cards and antiques. He enjoyed fishing, skiing, and driving and working on his 1968 Plymouth Satellite.
Survivors include his companion, Denise Martelle, a daughter, Misty Martelle and a son, Michael Martelle of Rutland; his mother of Westminster; his father and stepmother, Julia Grover of Brattleboro; seven sisters, Carrie Phelps of Concord, N.H., Pamela Blanchette of Rutland, Lynne Bonnette of Chesterfield, N.H., Michelle Grover, Heather Grover, Melissa Grover and Chanel Grover, all of Brattleboro; three brothers, Martin Grover of Wallingford, Justin Grover and Julian Grover, both of Brattleboro; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Ker-Westerlund & Fleming Funeral Home in Brattleboro.
Calling hours will be held Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Windham County Humane Society, 916 West River Road, Brattleboro, 05301.

James G. Dehler
RANDOLPH CENTER — James G. Dehler, 71, died June 21, 2003, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in White River Junction with cancer.
He was born Jan. 15, 1932, in Troy, N.Y., the son of George and Alice (Reid) Dehler.
He was educated in Troy schools.
He married
Gloria Dickinson on Nov. 26, 1977.
Mr. Dehler worked for the Biddeford (Maine) Fire Department for 15 years and was also a carpenter in Maine. He later worked for Ethan Allen in Randolph, where he retired from the pattern department in 1986 due to ill health.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife of Randolph Center; two daughters, Shari MacAskill of Williamstown and Shelly MacDonald of Randolph; two sisters, Jean Powalysk of Troy, N.Y., and Alice Thompkins of Arizona; a brother, George Dehler of Troy, N.Y.; two grandsons; and nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Vermont Veterans Memorial Chapel in Randolph Center with the Rev. Ronald Rilling officiating. Burial will follow in Vermont Veterans Memorial cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, White River Junction, 05001.

Marilyn D. Emerson
WELLS RIVER — Marilyn D. Emerson, 67, died June 22, 2003, at her home.
She was born June 29, 1935, in Newbury, the daughter of Ralph and Kate (Spear) Emerson.
She was educated in Groton and Newbury schools.
She was married
to James Brown, who predeceased her. She married
Raymond Downing Sr. on Feb. 28, 1958. They were divorced in 1969.
Survivors include a daughter, Tina Deas of Wells River; a son, Raymond Downing Jr. of Saxtons River; four brothers, Ira Emerson and Richard Emerson, both of Springfield, Claude Emerson of New Jersey and Tedric Emerson of New York; two sisters, Helen White of Saxtons River and Gloria Simons of North Carolina; a granddaughter; a grandson, a great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place in Saxtons River cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Hale Funeral Homes of Bradford and Thetford.
Althea L. Slocum
WINDSOR — Althea L. “Abbie” Slocum, 63, died June 20, 2003, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
She was born Aug. 3, 1939, in Bridgewater, the daughter of Harvey and Edna (Stevens) Balch.
She graduated from Woodstock High School in 1957.
She married
Gene Slocum on Dec. 25, 1977, in Northfield.
Mrs. Slocum worked as a child-care provider at the Windsor 5-C Head Start Program for 16 years, and later at Cedar Hill Healthcare in Windsor until her retirement.
She enjoyed flower gardening and bird watching.
Survivors include her husband of Windsor; three sons, Bruce Colby of Charlestown, N.H., Todd Slocum of Newport, N.H., and Robert Slocum of Windsor; a daughter, Nancy Lebeau of Windsor; a stepson, Christopher Slocum of Orlando, Fla.; two brothers, George Balch of Raeford, N.C., and Donald Balch of Windsor; three sisters, Katherine Blanchard of St. Johnsbury, Blythe Shockley of West Point, Ga., and Joyce Harlow of Windsor; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents and a son, John Colby.
The memorial service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor with the Rev. Daniel Kelin officiating.
A reception for family and friends will follow the service at the home of her daughter, Nancy Lebeau, 21 Channing Drive, Juniper Terrace, Windsor.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to a trust fund for her grandchildren to be set up at Mascoma Savings Bank, in care of Nancy Lebeau, 21 Channing Drive, Windsor, 05089.

Fred O. Stearns Jr.
LYME, N.H. — Fred Orren Stearns Jr., 74, died June 22, 2003, at his home.
He was born Feb. 6, 1929, in Lebanon, N.H., the son of Fred and Doris (Hazelton) Stearns Sr.
He worked at Trumbull-Nelson Construction Co. of Hanover as a heavy equipment operator for 44 years. After his retirement he worked part time for the town of Lyme Highway Department.
Mr. Stearns was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Edna (Hutchins) Stearns of Lyme; four sons, David Stearns Sr. of Rutland, Vt., Fred Stearns III, Denzil Stearns and Russell Stearns, all of Lyme; three daughters, Sylvia King of Lyme, Ruth Dunkling of Sharon, Vt., and Elaine Hill of Enfield; two brothers, Eli Stearns of Fairlee, Vt., and Paul Stearns of Grantham; four sisters, Maxine Preston, Madeline McGonis and Jean Arsenault, all of Lebanon, and Beverly Elliott of Marlow; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by four brothers, Raymond, Ralph, Reggie and Robert Stearns; and three sisters, Ruth Auclair, Bernita Plume and Marjorie Hines.
The graveside service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in Highland cemetery in Lyme with the Rev. Edward Condict officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
