Veontha W. White Rites
CHESTER — The funeral service for Veontha W. White, 85, who died June 3, 2003, was held Sunday at the Masonic Hall in Chester with the Rev. Nick Boke officiating. Burial followed in Pleasantview cemetery in Chester.
A reception was held at the Masonic Hall following the service.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Adams & Kenney Funeral Homes in Chester.
Elaine B. Keinonen
BRANDON — Elaine Blanche Keinonen, 79, died June 12, 2003, at the home of her daughter in Brandon.
Funeral arrangements are pending for Tuesday at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
Beth Bruce
EAST ROCKAWAY, N.Y. — Beth Bruce, 88, formerly of East Rockaway and Pittsford, Vt., died June 5, 2003.
She was born Dec. 29, 1914, in Middleboro, Mass.
Survivors include a son, Donal Bruce; a daughter, Susanne Nanka-Bruce; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Bruce.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Thomas A. Glynn & Son Funeral Home in Rockville Centre.
Friends may call Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Thomas A. Glynn & Son Funeral Home.
Bertle P. Johnson
The memorial service for Bertle P. “Shorty” Johnson, 83, of Rutland, who died April 25, 2003, will be held Saturday, June 14, at 1 p.m. in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. The Rev. Sharon Hughes, pastor, will officiate.
Burial for Mary F. Johnson, who died Oct. 6, 1994, and her husband, Bertle P. “Shorty” Johnson, will be in Evergreen cemetery.
Following the graveside service Saturday, there will be a reception at the family homestead at 246 Barrett Hill Road, Center Rutland.
Tossing Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Elna D. Gallo
SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The memorial service for Elna D. Gallo, 88, formerly of Rutland, Vt., who died Feb. 5, 2003, will be held Saturday, June 21, at 3:30 p.m. at the Rutland United Methodist Church Chapel. Burial will follow at 4:30 p.m. in Calvary cemetery.
Kenneth H. Fredette Rites
The funeral service for Kenneth H. “Red” Fredette Sr., 75, who died June 8, 2003, was held Thursday at the United Methodist Community Church in Mendon. The Rev. Raymond Lex, pastor, officiated. Burial followed in Evergreen cemetery in Pittsford.
American Legion Post 31 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 648 of Rutland provided military honors. Jack Allen presented the flag to Mrs. Fredette. Patrick Melvin sounded taps.
Bearers were Michael Cameron, Edward Congdon, Robert Congdon, Rick Fredette, Jeff King and Robert Sharp.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford.
Elinor A. Smith
BRADFORD — Elinor A. Smith, 88, died June 12, 2003, at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, N.H.
She was born Nov. 2, 1914, in Walden, the daughter of Frederick and Annabelle (Graham) Allen.
She was educated in Walden schools and attended Bradford Academy.
She married
Merlin Blake in 1933. He died in 1961. She later married
Elwin Smith in 1963, and he died in 1992.
Mrs. Smith worked at Gove & Bancroft Pharmacy in Bradford.
She was active in the Grace United Methodist Church, the Wesleyan Guild of the United Methodist Women and the Christmas Club.
Survivors include a son, E. Wayne Blake of Brattleboro; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Graham Blake; five sisters, Lolabelle Hood, Alzada Osgood, Helen Thorburn, Edna Hatch and Gladys Dunbar; three brothers, Winfield, Clifton and Granville Allen; two half sisters, Ruth Lanpher and Flora Brown; and two half brothers, Harold and Forrest Allen.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 25, at 11 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church in Bradford. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bradford Public Library, Bradford, 05033.

Mary M. Whitney
LEBANON, N.H. — Mary Morton Whitney, 81, died June 11, 2003, at Genesis Elder Care in Lebanon.
She was born Jan. 12, 1922, in Mechanic Falls, Maine, the daughter of Charles and Florence (Gatchell) Morton.
Survivors include four sons, James Whitney of Ventura, Calif., Thomas Whitney of Lacey Spring, Ala., Timothy Whitney of South Woodstock, Vt., and David Whitney of Dover; a sister, Rachael Wright of Florida; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Clifford Whitney, in 1979; and a sister, Ruth Williams.
The graveside service will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Ashuelot cemetery in Dalton, Mass., with the Rev. Mary Schriber officiating.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The graveside service for Gregory Earl Varney, the son of Gilbert and Beverly (Sayre) Varney, who died Aug. 4, 2002, will be held Friday, June 20, at 2 p.m. in Pleasant Ledge cemetery in East Thetford, Vt.
Gina M. Vigo Rites
SPRINGFIELD — The memorial Mass for Gina M. Vigo, 67, who died Dec. 8, 2002, was celebrated Thursday at St. Mary’s Church in Springfield with the Rev. Peter Williams, pastor, officiating.
Organist was Jerry Grimo. Canter and soloist was Harry Smith.
A reception was held in the parish hall following the service.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel.
Kathryn J. Shubiak Rites
BENNINGTON — A prayer service for Kathryn June “Kay” Shubiak, 79, who died June 9, 2003, was held Wednesday at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington with the Rev. Michael DeMasi officiating. Burial will be private.
Special musical selections were offered by grandsons, David Hollister Jr. and Steven Hollister.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.
Margery Warren
FAIR HAVEN — The graveside committal service and burial for Margery Hyde Warren, 88, who died Dec. 30, 2002, in Lenox, Mass., was held Saturday at the family lot in Hillside cemetery in Castleton.
Mr. Charles Smith, a deacon of the First Congregational Church, UCC of Fair Haven, officiated.
Michael Warren, a nephew, delivered the eulogy.
Alice G. Burton
Alice Emma Elizabeth (Gutzwiller) Burton, 78, of Rutland died June 14, 2003, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Rutland July 27, 1924, the daughter of Joseph and Louise (Barnes) Gutzwiller.
She was a 1942 graduate of Rutland High School and a 1944 graduate of the Albany School of Nursing.
She worked as a nurse at Rutland Hospital for several years and later at Tambrands Inc. for several years.
Mrs. Burton was a Boston Red Sox fan and enjoyed collecting antiques.
Survivors include a daughter, Jacquelyn Czachor of Rutland; two sons, Chester Burton of Hyde Park and Craig Burton of Rutland; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Gutzwiller.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Clifford Funeral Home. The Rev. Edward Hackett, pastor of the United Methodist Church, will officiate.
Friends may call today at the Clifford Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m.

Morris Krupnick
BURLINGTON — Morris “Murray” Krupnick, 78, of Burlington died at his home on June 13, 2003.
He was born in Boston on May 10, 1925.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving two Purple Hearts.
He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois and a master’s degree from San Diego State University.
He worked as an aerospace engineer for 40 years, completing his career at Grumman Corp. in Bethpage, N.Y.
He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed gardening.
He is survived by the mother of his children, Claudette Krupnick of Mendon; a son, Dr. Kurt Krupnick of North Chittenden; a daughter, Kara Krupnick of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sisters, Miriam Abromson of Florida and Rose Willner of New York; and two grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held for the immediate family.
There will be no visiting hours.
