Kenneth M. Ransom
RUTLAND — The memorial service for Kenneth M. “Mike” Ransom, 80, of Rutland, who died June 2, 2003, was held Saturday in the Church of the Wildwood in Chittenden. The Rev. Shirley Oskamp, pastor, officiated.
Burial was in Hillside cemetery in Castleton.
Kenneth H. Fredette Sr.
Kenneth H. “Red” Fredette Sr., 75, of Rutland, died Sunday, June 8, 2003, at his home. Mr. Fredette was born on January 28, 1928, in Fitchburg, Mass., the son of Wilbert F. and Doris (Farrar) Fredette.
Kenneth was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict.
He was formerly employed for many years as a stock chaser/foreman at the Howe Richardson Scale Company and later by the Rutland Public Schools, retiring in 1990. He was a resident of Rutland Town for over 50 years before moving to Rutland City. He was a member of the United Mendon Methodist Church, American Legion Post 31, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1122, VFW Post 648, Loyal Order of Eagles 1001 and AARP. Red enjoyed hunting, fishing, the Boston Red Sox and watching the Ice Hawks at Glens Falls Civic Center.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn J. (Sharp) Fredette of Rutland; one son, Kenneth Fredette Jr. and his wife Kate of Wallingford; two daughters, Carol and her husband Roger Mitchell of Rutland and Karen Fredette of Rutland; six grandchildren, Donna Streeter of Rutland, Joseph Marro of USN, Rachel, Lisa, Caleb Fredette, all of Wallingford; two great-grandchildren, Daniel and Amanda Streeter of Rutland; two sisters, Ruth McGinnis of Rutland and Beck King of North Clarendon; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; one brother, Wilbert H. Fredette; and two sisters, Pauline Fredette and Eleanor Crowell.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 12, at 1 p.m. at the United Mendon Methodist Church in Mendon. Burial will follow in Evergreen cemetery in Pittsford. Friends may call on Tuesday, June 10, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford.

Ellis A. Anderson
CASTLETON — Mr. Ellis A. Anderson, 83, died suddenly Sunday evening, June 8, 2003, in Castleton.
Ellis was born April 28, 1920, the son of the late Fritz and Grace (Ransom) Anderson.
He attended local schools in Castleton and was a 1938 graduate of Rutland High School. Together with his brother Chester, they owned and operated the Ransomvale Farm, which has been in the family since 1803.
Ellis was a former Selectman in Castleton for many years. He was also a former member of the Castleton cemetery Commission, local Agway Committee and the Soil Conservation Committee.
Ellis loved spending quality time with his family and loved woodworking and trout fishing. In his younger years, Ellis enjoyed playing baseball in local leagues. He also enjoyed playing practical jokes on his friends, family and neighbors.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Eleanor (Toth) Anderson, whom he married
October 12, 1952, in Castleton. By his two sons, Mr. Eric Ellis Hon-Anderson and his wife Ali of Bedford, Mass., and their children Maxfield and Isabel, Mr. Karl Chester Anderson and his wife Carolyn of Rutland and their children David, Stephen, Elizabeth and Joseph.; his brother, Mr. Chester Anderson and his wife Marjorie of Castleton; many cousins; and his dog, Oreo.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Helen Marion Anderson and Linnea Anderson.
A special thank you to Peg Wilton and other caregivers over the past several years that helped Ellis and his family during his illness.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at 10 a.m. at the Ducharme Funeral Home in Castleton. The Rev. Thomas Zelker, parish priest of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Granville, N.Y., will officiate. Burial will follow in Hillside cemetery in Castleton.
Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, June 10, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contribution in memory of Ellis may be made to the Rutland County Humane Society, through the office of the funeral home at P.O. Box 474, Castleton, Vt., 05735.

Alice Brown Cook
WATERVLIET, N.Y. — Alice Brown Cook, age 69, of First Avenue in Watervliet, surrounded by hundreds of Christians during the Albany Episcopal Diocesan Annual Convention in Camp-of-the-Woods in Speculator, N.Y., entered into the glorious presence of her Lord on June 6, 2003. Beloved mother of Deborah (Ringer) Edwards of Hudson, N.Y., Melanie (Ringer) Combs of Castleton, Vt., Meredith Cook VanDuyne of Aurora, N.Y., and Susanna (Cook) Ruiz of Troy, N.Y. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Charles J. Bauer IV of Rochester, N.Y., Michael Adam Corey of Hudson, N.Y., Matthew Richard and Kathryn Alice Combs of Castleton, Vt.; and three great-grandchildren, Michael Adam Kraft, Sariah Faith Corey, and Duncan Enering. She was predeceased by her first husband, Samuel Ringer and her second husband, the Reverend Robert M. Cook.
Born May 14, 1934, in Hudson, New York, Alice was the daughter of lifelong Hudson residents, Floyd and Ruth (Neill) Brown. The 1951 Hudson High School valedictorian, Alice completed her formal education with a B.S. from Union University at Albany College of Pharmacy before embarking on a career in laboratory technology and advancing to management level at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, N.Y.
Throughout her life, Alice followed a path of service to family, community, and most importantly the Lord Jesus Christ. This was characterized by ministering as Director of Religious Education at Trinity Church, Watervliet, N.Y., participation in the charismatic renewal of the Church, serving on the vestries of several churches, being an active member and leader of church programs including Cursillo, Alpha, Discipleship Training, Faith Alive, singing in church choirs, teaching Sunday School and leading a Girl Scout troop.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 13, at the Morris-Stebbins-Miner and Sanvidge Funeral Home, 312 Hoosick Street in Troy, N.Y., from 6 to 8 p.m. followed by a celebration of life from 8 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services are on Saturday, June 14, at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral of All Saints in Albany, N.Y.
Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

The graveside service for Elaine L. Davis, 98, of Rutland, who died Feb. 15, 2003, will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph’s cemetery. The Rev. Francis Privé, pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, will officiate.

Jennie H. Pecor Rites
WEST RUTLAND — The funeral Mass for Jennie H. Pecor, 87, who died June 5, 2003, was celebrated Monday at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in West Rutland. The Rev. Frank Warzocha, pastor, officiated. Burial followed in St. Stanislaus cemetery in West Rutland.
Organist was Dorothy Blicharz.
Bearers were Thomas Pecor, Gordon Sheldon, Jennifer Sheldon and Brian Shaw.
A prayer service was held Monday at the Mullin-Clifford Funeral Home in West Rutland by the Rev. Warzocha.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Mullin-Clifford Funeral Home.
Evelyn M. Hier Rites
MIDDLETOWN SPRINGS — The funeral service for Evelyn M. Hier, 57, who died June 5, 2003, was held Monday at the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home in Poultney. The Rev. Stephen Payne, pastor of the United Baptist Church of Poultney, officiated. Burial will take place in Poultney at a later date.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home in Poultney.
Michael P. Corologos
RANDOLPH — Michael Peter Corologos, 74, died June 8, 2003, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
He was born Oct. 11, 1928, in Barre, the son of Peter and Thersa (Bizzezero) Corologos.
He graduated from Spaulding High School.
He married
Judith Finnie on Aug. 3, 1963, in Barre.
Mr. Corologos worked for his parents at the Candy Kitchen in Barre, and at Sprague Electric and Howard’s Market, both in Barre. He later worked at Merrimaids as a supervisor, retiring in 1993. After his retirement, he worked part-time at Grand Union and Champlain Farms in Randolph.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War.
He was a member of the Middle Branch Grange.
Mr. Corologos enjoyed playing baseball with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of Randolph; two sons, Jason Corologos, serving with the Special Forces in Okinawa, Japan and Damon Corologos of Brookfield; a daughter, Cassandra Blanchard of Randolph; three brothers, James Corologos of Long Island, N.Y., Andrew Corologos of South Burlington and Paul Corologos of Essex Junction; two sisters, Irene Abbott of South Burlington and Paula Riggie of Nevada; eight grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 9 a.m. at Sts. Donatian and Rogatian Catholic Church with the Rev. John Milanese officiating. Burial will follow in the Vermont Veterans Memorial cemetery in Randolph Center.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Day Funeral Home.
Mildred T. Butterfield
STOCKBRIDGE — Mildred T. Butterfield, 83, died June 6, 2003, at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.
She was born Nov. 19, 1919, in Bethel, the daughter of Charles and Queenie (Harlow) Townsend.
She attended Lympus School.
She married
Earle Butterfield in 1942 in Bethel. He died in 1996.
Mrs. Butterfield worked as a professional cook for several ski clubs and helped care for the Stockbridge Common cemetery.
She was a member of the Mayflower Descendants and the Harlow Family Organization of Plymouth, Mass., and a past member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonel Israel Converse Chapter and a past board member of the Quin-Town Senior Center.
She enjoyed gardening, genealogy, cooking and baking, and collecting salt and pepper shakers and trivets.
Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Marsh of Ludlow; a son, Kent Butterfield of Stockbridge; two granddaughters and one great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, Ted Butterfield; three brothers, Dwight, William and James Townsend; and two sisters, Queenie Bird and Zelda Seymour.
The funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Day Funeral Home in Randolph with Chaplain Christopher Junker officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview cemetery in Bethel.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kathryn J. Shubiak
BENNINGTON — Kathryn June “Kay” Shubiak, 79, died June 9, 2003, at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Jan. 3, 1924, in New York City, the daughter of Jack and Helen (Ivory) Walters.
She received her education in New York.
She worked as a registered nurse in several health care facilities throughout the area.
She was an avid bingo player.
Survivors include three sons, Stephen Shubiak of Bennington, Paul Shubiak of Santa Monica, Calif., and John Shubiak of Staten Island, N.Y.; two daughters, Nancy Hollister of Bennington and Jane Byers of Tualiton, Ore.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Goggy Shubiak in 1969.
A prayer service will be held Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington with the Rev. Michael DeMasi officiating. Burial will be private.
Friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — The funeral Mass for Evelyn M. Smith, 84, who died June 4, 2003, was celebrated Monday at St. Anthony’s Church in White River Junction. The Rev. Richard Tinney, pastor of Our Lady of Seven Dolor’s Church in Fair Haven, officiated. Burial followed in Thetford Center cemetery in Thetford.
Organist was Beatrice Gyra.
Bearers were grandsons, Michael Knowles, Patrick Knowles, John Smith, Joseph Smith, Rusty Johnson, Randall Johnson, Ryan Johnson, James Smith and Edward Smith.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction.
