Florence G. Swenor
BRANDON - Florence Genevieve Swenor, 83, died November 6, 2000, at the Porter Hospital in Middlebury.
She was born April 29, 1917, in Shoreham daughter of Leon and Sadie (Duffany) LaDuc.
Mrs. Swenor attended school in Shoreham and graduated from Montpelier Seminary in 1934.
She married
Stanley Swenor on May 15, 1934. He died in 1968.
Mrs. Swenor was a telephone switchboard operator, from her home, for the Shoreham Telephone Co., for several years. She later worked at Van Raault Shirt Manufacturing Co. in Middlebury and later for Brown's Novelty. She retired in 1975 due to ill health, after several years at Shoreham Co-op.
She enjoyed cooking, sewing and reading.
Mrs. Swenor was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brandon.
Survivors include a son, Reginald J. Swenor of Starksboro; three daughters, Elizabeth Audet of Orwell, Nancy Miller of Niantic, Conn., and Patricia Lamoureux of Whiting; a brother, Allan LaDuc of Brandon; 16 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; a niece; and several nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a son, Robert Swenor.
The funeral Mass will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brandon by the Rev. Albert "Skip" Baltz, pastor. A graveside service will follow in St. Genevieve cemetery in Shoreham.
There will be no calling hours.

Marshall F. Bruce
BRANDON - Marshall F. Bruce, 85, died November 6, 2000, at his home in Brandon.
He was born January 7, 1915, in Tupper Lake, N.Y., son of Marshall J. and Elizabeth (Fitzgerald) Bruce.
He earned a bachelor's degree from Fordham University and a master's in business administration from New York University.
Mr. Bruce was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and served as captain of a P.T. Boat in the South Pacific.
He married
Florence M. Ellwager on June 7, 1941, in New York City.
Mr. Bruce was a corporate executive and in 1972 moved with his family to Rutland, as it was the central location of the chain of stores he purchased. He retired in 1981. After the death of his wife in 1987, he began a career as a funeral director. He was associated with the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home for the past 13 years.
He enjoyed reading, history, refinishing furniture and traveling.
Mr. Bruce was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brandon, vice president of the Brandon cemetery Association and a corporate vice president of Miller & Ketcham Inc.
Survivors include three daughters, Carolyn Martin of Rockport, Mass., Nancy Akerley of Gloucester, Mass., and Marsha F. Bruce of Mendon; three sons, Marshall T. Bruce of Rutland, Mark M. Bruce of Naperville, Ill., and J. Dennis Bruce of Clear Brook, Va.; 13 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a cousin.
The funeral Mass will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brandon by the Rev. Albert "Skip" Baltz. A graveside service with military honors will be held in Pine Hill cemetery.
A reception will follow at St. Mary's Church parish hall.
Friends may call today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

Arthur F. Heitmann
EAST MONTPELIER - Arthur F. Heitmann, 94, died November 3, 2000, at his winter home in South Venice, Fla.
He was born Feb. 10, 1906, in Philadelphia, Pa., son of Hedwig (Grambow) and Frank Heitmann.
He left school at the age of 13 to support his family and later graduated from Penn State University.
Mr. Heitmann was a World War II U.S. Navy officer during the Aleutian Campaigns.
He came to Vermont in 1933 and married
Theodora Marceau, of Rutland, on April 22, 1934, in Manchester. She died in 1986.
As a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps, he was responsible for the supervising of a variety of projects. His experiences led to a 42-year career as a Vermont State Forester. He retired in 1976 as Commissioner of Forest and Parks and executive officer of the Agency of Environmental Conservation. He maintained an active role in conservation issues in Vermont, Florida and nationally.
He was a member of the Lake Mansfield Trout Club, American Tree Farmers Association, the Society of American Foresters, Lemon Bay Conservancy and the Florida Nature Conservancy.
Survivors include a son, Peter A. Heitmann of East Montpelier; and a granddaughter, Ellen F. Heitmann of East Montpelier.
A reception will be held Saturday, November 18, 2000, from 2 to 6 p.m. at his home in East Montpelier.

Raleigh M. Jasmin Rites
PITTSFORD - The funeral for Raleigh M. Jasmin, 50, who died Nov. 3, 2000, was held Monday at the Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford by the Rev. Bruce Bishop, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Rutland. Burial followed in Evergreen cemetery in Pittsford.
Words of remembrance written by his daughter, Jennifer, were read by James Jasmin.
Bearers were Bill Hemple, Art Hemple, Jay Blanchard, Pat Loughan, Jim Jasmin and Craig Jasmin.
Bertha A. McGee Rites
NORTH CHITTENDEN - The funeral for Bertha A. McGee, 85, who died Nov. 1, 2000, was held Saturday at the Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford by the Rev. Edward Elliot, pastor of the North Chittenden Wesleyan Church. Burial followed in Horton cemetery in Chittenden.
Members of the Marble Chapter #80 OES of Brandon conducted a prayer service Friday evening at the funeral home.
Bearers were all grandsons, Brian Soulia, Chris and Kevin Philipsen, Dean and Mark McGee and Michael Meiman.
Helen E. Keats
MANCHESTER - Helen Elizabeth MacConnach Keats, 84, a former resident of Manchester, died Nov. 4, 2000, in Sebring, Fla., where she had lived for the past year.
She was born Nov. 27, 1915, in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of George M. and Mary E. (Gleason) Breen.
She attended local schools and moved with her family to Long Island, N.Y.
She married
Alfred John MacConnach and moved to Manchester in 1953.
She and her husband owned and operated the Bromley Sugar House in Peru until her husband's death in 1963. She later married
William Keats and moved to Florida, where she worked as a realtor in the Fort Lauderdale area. Mr. Keats died in 1996.
Her hobbies included drawing birds and flowers.
She is survived by a daughter, Jerilyn MacConnach of Arlington; a brother, George B. Breen of Sebastian, Fla.; a sister, Dorothy Toole of Melbourne Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, Jeffrey MacConnach; and a sister, Anne Seipp.
There will be a memorial service at Brewster Funeral Home in Manchester followed by a graveside service of committal. Burial will be in Peru cemetery.

Janice M. (Keyes) Felion
MANCHESTER - Janice Mable (Keyes) Felion, 54, a longtime resident of the Manchester area, died Nov. 6, 2000, in Middle Granville, N.Y., at the home of her brother, Tom Keyes. She died of cancer.
She was born April 18, 1946, in Manchester, daughter of James Edmond and Virginia Irene (Robert) Keyes.
She attended local schools and graduated from Burr and Burton Seminary.
She worked as a waitress for many years at the Bromley Mountain Resort and Mrs. Murphy's Donuts in Manchester.
Survivors include three sisters, Linda Bushee of Mount Tabor, Joan Dyke of Middle Granville, N.Y., and Bernice Felion of Arlington; four brothers, Thomas Keyes of Middle Granville, N.Y., Harvey Keyes of Louisville, Ky., Jack Keyes and Michael Keyes, both of Manchester; and nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles and aunts.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Richard Keyes Sr., William Keyes Sr., and Robert Keyes.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Manchester. Burial will follow in Factory Point cemetery in Manchester with the Rev. Betty Wright Riggins, pastor, officiating.
Friends may call Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brewster Funeral Home in Manchester.

Laura R. Scoville
BENNINGTON - Laura Richardson Scoville, 93, died Nov. 6, 2000, at Crescent Manor Care Centers, where she had been a resident since 1992. She moved to Bennington from New York City in 1984.
She was born March 16, 1907, in Omaha, Neb., eldest child of Forrest and Laura Morse Richardson.
She attended elementary schools in Omaha and graduated from St. Timothy's School (Stevenson, Md.) and Bryn Mawr College in 1929 with a bachelor's degree in French. She also studied at the Institute of Musical Arts (now Julliard School) in New York, and for several years gave private piano lessons.
She married
Samuel Armstrong Scoville; the marriage ended in divorce. He predeceased her.
Mrs. Scoville pursued a career in alumni relations and development work at Bryn Mawr College, Packer Colligate Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y., Cancer Center Inc. in New York City, and the National Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation in Washington, D.C. She served as foundations staff director in the capital fundraising campaign that established the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City.
Survivors include two daughters, Virginia Scoville Sandy of North Bennington and Sarah "Sally" Scoville of Cornwall, Conn.; three grandchildren; and a niece.
She was predeceased by a sister, Virginia Richardson; a brother, Charles Forrest Richardson; and a son, Jonathan Armstrong Scoville.
There will be a memorial service Saturday at 4 p.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 200 Pleasant St., in Bennington with the Rev. Arthur Kingdon officiating. Burial will be private in Trinity Church cemetery in New York City.
There will be no calling hours.

Maurice R. Menard
SPRINGFIELD - Maurice R. Menard, 91, died Nov. 6, 2000, at Springfield Hospital.
He was born Nov. 21, 1908, in St. Johns, P.Q. Canada, son of Arthur and Delina (DeMeules) Menard.
He attended schools in St. Johns and later in Hardwick.
He married
Aurore Renaud on June 1, 1936, in Hardwick. They have resided in Springfield since 1941, where Mr. Menard was employed at the Jones and Lamson Machine Tool Co., retiring in 1973 after 32 years of service.
He was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where he was a member of the church choir for many years. He was a 4th degree member of the Sullivan Council Knights of Columbus 2628. Mr. Menard served as both the past grand knight and the past faithful navigator for the organization. In 1998 he received an award for being the oldest active 4th degree knight in the state of Vermont. He was also a member of the Springfield Senior Center, the RSVP, the Senior Meals Program and the Crown Point Country Club.
He enjoyed gardening and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife of Springfield; three sons, Andre P. Menard of Nashua, N.H., Pierre A. Menard of Massena, N.Y., and Denis P. Manard of Winter Park, Fla.; two daughters, Louise R. Therrien of Cape Coral, Fla., and Elaine A. Lynch of Pepperell, Mass.; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by nine brothers; and a sister.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Springfield with the Rev. Douglas Hawkins, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's cemetery in Biddeford, Maine, at 3:30 p.m.
Friends may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Davis Memorial Chapel.
