Leta M. Wade
POULTNEY — Leta Mae Wade, 69, of Poultney, died Monday, June 2, 2003, at home following a courageous battle with leukemia.
She was born October 13, 1933, in Middletown Springs, the daughter of Harry G. Kenyon Sr. and Rose (Carter) Kenyon. She graduated from Middletown Springs High School in 1952. She was a delegate to Girls State in 1951 and received the DAR Good Citizen Award. She excelled in softball, basketball and table tennis. She was employed at the Brattleboro Retreat, Green Mountain College at “the Buttery” and more recently, by the Poultney School System, where she retired in 1993 after serving as a cook for 23 years. Maurice H. Wade of Poultney on April 24, 1955. They moved to East Poultney in 1960. Leta was a former member of the Poultney Valley Snowmobile Devils, the Poultney Valley Grange and the Friendship Circle of the East Poultney Baptist Church. She was a participant in the Relay for Life in 2002.
Leta is survived by her husband, “Moe” of Poultney; her daughter and son-in-law, Dale Susan and David Hughes Jr. of Poultney; her son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Stephanie Wade of Wells; her three grandsons, Timothy, Alexander and Christopher Wade of Wells; her sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Cecil Miller of Norwood, N.C.; her brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Cathy Kenyon of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents of Middletown Springs; three brothers, Wayne, Harry Jr. and Clifford Kenyon Sr.; and one sister, Elsie Kenyon.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 6, at 11 a.m., at the United Baptist Church of Poultney with the Rev. Stephen R. Payne, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Poultney cemetery.
Visiting hours for friends and relatives will be on Thursday, June 5, 2003, from 1 to 3 p.m. and from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Durfee Funeral Home, 119 North Main Street, Fair Haven.
In Lieu of Flowers, Memorial Contributions in memory of Mrs. Wade may be given to the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life 2003, or to the United Baptist Church Steeple Renovation Project, through the funeral home office at P.O. Box 86, Fair Haven, Vt., 05753.
James C. Stelzer
EAST POULTNEY — James C. Stelzer, age 48, died on May 31, 2003, at his residence in East Poultney. Mr. Stelzer was born on Nov. 15, 1954, the son of the late George and Billie (Churchill) Stelzer. He was a graduate of Poultney High School. Mr. Stelzer enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also an avid gardener.
James is survived by his wife, Michelle (Dore) Stelzer; two sons, Chad E. Stelzer and Christopher J. Stelzer, both of East Poultney; two sisters, Jacqueline Baker of Southold, Long Island, N.Y., and Linda Mary Piermont of New Hampshire; one brother, Robert Stelzer of Poultney; and four nephews, Ivan Stelzer of Poultney, Jason Stelzer of Pennsylvania, Ben Gitchel of New Hampshire and Keith Baker of Long Island, N.Y.
There will be a memorial service at the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home in Poultney on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Ruth D. Ziesse
FAIR HAVEN — Ruth D. Ziesse, 92, a former resident of Hebron, N.Y., died June 3, 2003, at Mountain View Center Genesis Elder Care in Rutland.
She was born April 2, 1911, in New York, N.Y., the daughter of Herman and Marie (Smith) Mann.
She graduated from Northfield Mount Hermon School in Massachusetts.
She worked at Pember Museum in Granville, N.Y., for several years.
Mrs. Ziesse attended South Granville (N.Y.) Congregational Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Gretchen Barrett of Levittown, N.Y.; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her two husbands, Milfred Dietz and Ray Ziesse.
Mrs. Ziesse donated her body for anatomical studies at the University of Vermont Medical College in Burlington.
There will be no calling hours or funeral services.
Memorial contributions may be made to a local county Humane Society.

Albert J. Remes Sr.
BOCA RATON, Fla. — Albert J. Remes Sr., 61, died May 24, 2003, at his home.
He was born July 23, 1941, in New York City, the son of John and Priscilla (Oakman) Remes.
He worked for the Long Island (N.Y.) Railroad for 11 years, and later as a carpenter and cabinetmaker in Mount Holly, Vt., for several years. In the late 1970s he became a long distance mover until his illness in 2002.
Survivors include his wife, Mary of Boca Raton; two daughters, Tina Walters and Eva Wooden; a son, Albert Remes Jr.; and several stepchildren and grandchildren; two sisters, Bobby Oakman of Florida and Patricia De-Amico of Long Island; four brothers, Richard and Frank of Pennsylvania, Thomas of Fair Haven, Vt., and Robert of Long Island.
He was predeceased by his mother in 1998 and his father in 2002.
The funeral service was held May 28 in Palm Beach.
Verona I. Snow
The funeral service for Verona Iris Snow, 79, of Rutland, who died Monday, June 2, 2003, at Rutland Regional Medical Center following a long illness will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Aldous Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Riverside cemetery in Swanton.
She was born November 23, 1923, in Swanton, the daughter of Percy and Lena (Blodgett) Medor.
Mrs. Snow was a longtime resident of Rutland, and member of the Rutland Senior Center and the RSVP program.
She loved her family and home and had been employed by the Grand Theatre and Metro Mail Co.
Survivors include two sons, Harold E. Snow of Rutland and David R. Snow of Bennington; a brother, Kenneth Medor of New Hampshire; four grandchildren, Kim Lewis, Paul Snow, Lynn Evans and Traci Thomas; four great-grandchildren, Colby Evans, Caitlyn Evans, Brandon Jenkins and Reily Lewis.
Her husband, Sgt. Paul Snow VSP Ret. predeceased her.
Friends may call on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Aldous Funeral Home, 44 North Main Street, Rutland.

Harry L. Waterhouse Rites
FAIR HAVEN — The funeral Mass for Harry Leroy Waterhouse, 88, who died May 31, 2003, was celebrated Tuesday at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Fair Haven. The Rev. Richard Tinney, parish priest, officiated. Burial followed in St. Mary’s cemetery.
Organist was Nancy Wetherby.
Bearers were Stephen Waterhouse Jr., David Waterhouse Jr., Jim Hall, Tom Coloutti, Robert Coloutti Sr. and Christopher Coloutti.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Durfee Funeral Home in Fair Haven.
Agnes H. Herschel
WINDSOR — Agnes Hannah “Nan” Herschel, 90, died June 2, 2003, at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Conn.
She was born Dec. 23, 1912, in Kildonan, Manitoba, Canada, the daughter of John and Margaret (Hoome) Hannah. She moved to Vermont when she was 2 years old.
She became a U.S. citizen in 1942.
She attended school in Brownsville.
She married
Clarence Herschel on June 24, 1931, in Claremont, N.H.
Mrs. Hershchel and her husband owned and operated Herschel’s Trucking and Delivery from 1947 to 1956. She handled the customer service and payroll aspects of the business. They later moved to Connecticut where she worked for Whitney Chain Co. in Hartford, and later held positions as a nanny for several families in the West Hartford and Farmington areas.
She enjoyed cooking and was known for her desserts, especially her apple pie. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and needlework.
Survivors include a daughter, Pauline Wentworth of Enfield, Conn.; two grandsons, two great-grandsons and a great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1974; five sisters, Margaret Mackay, Jessie Davignon, Sarah Morrison, Isabelle Worthington and Mary Worthington; three brothers, William Hannah, John Hannah and Andrew Hannah; and a grandson.
The funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor. Burial will follow in Ascutney cemetery in Windsor.
A reception for family and friends will be held at the Elk’s Lodge in Windsor following the service.
Arrangements are under the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor.
Christine E. Nowlan
WEST WINDSOR — Christine E. Nowlan, 87, died June 3, 2003, at Mount Ascutney Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility in Windsor.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor.
Bradford G. Jones
BENNINGTON — Bradford G. “Brownie” Jones, 83, died June 2, 2003, at his residence.
He was born June 14, 1919, in Manchester, the son of Bert and Helen (Grey) Jones.
He received his education in Manchester.
He married
Amy Bennett on July 31, 1965, in Cambridge, N.Y.
Mr. Jones worked at William E. Morse Construction Co., and later at BenMont Paper Corp., retiring in 1981.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars 1332, American Legion Post 13, the Bennington Club, AARP Chapter 269, and the Bennington Moose Lodge 1233.
Mr. Jones enjoyed hunting, fishing and dancing.
Survivors include his wife of Bennington; a son, Klaus Jones of Petersburg, N.Y.; a brother, Albert Jones of Bennington; a grandchild and one great-grandchild; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a sister, Catherine Stratton; four brothers, Forrest Jones, Gordon Jones, Paul Jones and Stanley Jones.
The funeral service will be held Friday at 4 p.m. at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Head of Tide cemetery in Newry, Maine, at the convenience of the family.
Friends may call Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mary H. Flynn
BENNINGTON — Mary H. Flynn, 80, died June 3, 2003, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 28, 1922, in Champlain, N.Y., the daughter of Albert and Mary Jane (LaVenture) Sanchagrin.
She received her education in Rouses Point, N.Y.
Mr. and Mrs. Flynn were married
on May 7, 1945, in Plattsburgh, N.Y. He died in 1992.
She worked at Frost’s Pharmacy and M.H. Fishman’s Department Store.
She enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan Flynn of Bennington and Janice Flynn of New York; and several cousins.
The funeral service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Lozinski of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church officiating. Burial will follow in Park Lawn cemetery.
