Jean H. Ryan
BENNINGTON — Jean H. Ryan, 59, died June 2, 2003, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, N.Y.
She was born April 20, 1944, in Bennington, the daughter of Earl and Helen (Ryan) Hurley.
She graduated from Bennington Catholic High School in 1962 and St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Pittsfield, Mass.
She married
Thomas Ryan on Oct. 24, 1970, in Bennington.
Mrs. Ryan worked on the nursing staff of St. Luke’s Hospital in Pittsfield, Mass., Southwestern Vermont Medical Center and Putnam Memorial Hospital as head nurse of the Intensive Care Unit. At the time of her illness she held the position of financial analyst.
She enjoyed reading.
Survivors include her husband of Bennington; a daughter, Jennifer Ryan of Shaftsbury; her mother of Bennington; a sister, Julianne Shea of Ballston Lake, N.Y.; a grandson; two nieces, four nephews, three great-nieces and cousins.
The funeral service will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home with a prayer, and continue at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church with a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will take place in Park Lawn cemetery.
Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. The wake service will be offered at 4 p.m.

Matthew L. Harris
BENNINGTON — Matthew L. Harris, 14, died June 1, 2003, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.
He was born Aug. 11, 1988, in Bennington.
He was currently attending Mount Anthony Middle School.
He enjoyed swimming, camping and listening to music.
Survivors include his mother, Robin Andrew; his maternal grandparents, Wayne and Linda Andrew of North Petersburgh, N.Y.; his maternal great-grandparents, Harold Andrew of Eagle Bridge, N.Y., and Bruce and Audrey Bracken of Florida; an aunt and uncle, great-aunts and great-uncles; and a cousin.
A celebration of his life will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington. Sue Maguire, his former principal at Molly Stark Elementary School, will officiate.
Friends may call Wednesday at the funeral home from 6 p.m. until the time of the service.

BENNINGTON — Bradford Jones, 83, died June 2, 2003, at his residence.

Dorothy M. Mayette
LACONIA, N.H. — Dorothy M. Mayette, 76, formerly of Wilder, Vt., died May 31, 2003, at Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia.
She was born Sept. 13, 1926, in Wilder, the daughter of Albert and Rachel (Gunn) White.
She graduated from Hartford High School in 1945.
She married
Raymond Mayette on June 15, 1951, in Portsmouth. He died in 1970.
Mrs. Mayette worked as a cashier at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover for many years, retiring in 1989.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Martin of Bristol and Debbie Seace of Virginia; four granddaughters and a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Clifton White; and a sister, Chestine Gardener-Ducharme.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Church in White River Junction, Vt. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet cemetery in White River Junction.
Friends may call Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction.

HARTLAND FOUR CORNERS — The graveside service for Madeliene Hilliker, 80, who died Nov. 17, 2002, will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Maple Hill cemetery in Washington, Vt.
A potluck luncheon will follow at the Washington Baptist Church.

WILDER — The graveside service for Anita Warburton, 66, who died March 5, 2003, will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mount Calvary cemetery in St. Johnsbury.

GRAFTON — A private graveside service for Mabel Brown Wright, 84, who died March 5, 2003, was held Saturday in Houghtonville cemetery. The Rev. Lynda Hadley, pastor of the Grafton White Church, officiated.

Francis R. Betit Sr.
HAMPTON, N.Y. — Francis R. Betit Sr., age 63, of Hampton, N.Y., passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2003, at his residence.
Mr. Betit was born on June 25, 1939, in White Creek, N.Y., son of the late Adjutor and Bertha (Monroe) Betit. He served his country honorable in the United States Army. After returning from the Army, Francis married
his wife, the former Jean A. Gould on April 28, 1962. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid motor sports fan.
Mr. Betit is survived by his wife, Jean A. Betit of Hampton, N.Y.; three sons, Steven M. Betit of Poultney, Vt., Francis Raymond Betit Jr. of Granville, N.Y., and Timothy W. Betit of Columbia, S.C.; two daughters, Karen Jean Young of Bennington, Vt., and Tina Marie Daigle of Granville, N.Y.; two sisters, Rita Kittle of White Creek, N.Y., and Patricia Ellis of Hudson, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Francis is predeceased by one grandson, Joseph W. Betit; four brothers and two sisters.
Relatives and friends may call at the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home in Poultney on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, 10 a.m., at the St. Raphael’s Church in Poultney with the Rev. Adam J. Krempa, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Rosewood cemetery in White Creek, N.Y.

Kenneth M. Ransom
Kenneth M. “Mike” Ransom, 80, of Rutland and formerly of Rutland Town, died June 2, 2003, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center. He was born Dec. 31, 1922, in Rutland Town, the son of Elihu and Ethel (McCarthy) Ransom.
Mr. Ransom worked as a carpenter for John Russell Corporation for many years, and later as a self-employed carpenter.
He was an active member of the Church of the Wildwood.
Mr. Ransom was an avid bowler with the Sr. Citizen’s league, and enjoyed playing the accordion in the Cady Band.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene (Smith) Ransom of Rutland; two sons, Matthew Ransom of Ethel, La., and Glenn Ransom of Rutland; a sister, Veralyn Fryzell of Bomoseen; a brother, Elihu Ransom Jr. of Pittsford; a granddaughter, Alison Perry of Tinmouth; a grandson, Elijah Ransom of Rutland; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by four brothers, Charles Ransom, David Ransom, Robert Ransom and Joseph Ransom.
The memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Church of the Wildwood in Chittenden with the Rev. Shirley Colletti, pastor, officiating.
Friends may call on Thursday, from 2 to 3 p.m., at the Tossing Funeral Home. Burial will follow on Thursday in Hillside cemetery in Castleton.
