Joan J. Brown
BETHEL — Joan Jensen Brown, 67, died Dec. 27, 2002, at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.
She was born April 2, 1935, in New York City, the daughter of Svend and Rachel (Swanson) Jensen.
She graduated from Eastchester (N.Y.) High School in 1953.
She married
Robert Brown on Oct. 15, 1957, in Yonkers, N.Y. He died in 1998.
Mrs. Brown worked at the Fred F. French Co. in New York City and later at the New York City Spa. Later, she and her husband owned and operated Trader’s Wharf and Antique Business and the Sachem Motel in Ogunquit, Maine, for many years. She also worked at Royal Towne Gifts in Royalton and had her own antique space at the Quechee Gorge Village.
She was a member of the Ogunquit Baptist Church in Maine and the Order of the Eastern Star in Ogunquit.
She enjoyed traveling to Disney World and collecting Disney paraphernalia.
Survivors include two daughters, Leslie Brown and Sandra Brown, both of Bethel; two brothers, Robert Jensen of Montauk, N.Y., and Irv Jensen of Des Moines, Iowa; six grandchildren and one great-grandson.
The memorial service will be held at a later date.
Friends are invited to visit with her family Sunday, Jan. 5, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the home of her daughter, Leslie Brown, 183 River St., Bethel.

Virginia S. Farnum
Virginia Sawtell Farnum, 79, died Dec. 29, 2002, at Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington.
She was born Nov. 29, 1923, in Pawlet, the daughter of Pearl and Glennie (Crawford) Sawtell.
She graduated from Burr & Burton Seminary in 1942 and St. Joseph’s Business College in Bennington.
She married
Edward Farnum on Aug. 29, 1943, in Miami, Fla.
Mrs. Farnum worked for the United States Postal Service in Manchester Depot and Manchester Center Post Offices for 23 years, retiring in 1983.
She was a member of American Legion Post 38 Auxiliary of Manchester.
Survivors include her husband of Manchester Center; three sons, Joseph Farnum of Essex, Conn., John Farnum of Manchester Center and James Farnum of Middlebury; a daughter, Barbara Fournier of Swanton; a sister, Myrtle Greene of Wells; a grandson, a step-grandson and two step-granddaughters; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased a brother, Wilson Sawtell; and a sister, Myra Williams.
The memorial service will be held Friday at noon at the Brewster Funeral Home in Manchester Center with the Rev. Steven Berry, pastor of the First Congregational Church of Manchester, officiating. Burial will follow in Factory Point cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.

Theodore DeMarco
BENNINGTON — Theodore “Ted” DeMarco, 95, died Dec. 29, 2002, at Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington.
He was born Feb. 6, 1907, in North Adams, Mass., the son of Paul and Rose (Siciliano) DeMarco.
He was educated in the North Adams (Mass.) schools.
He married
Alice Blanquart on April 15, 1930, in North Adams, Mass. She died in 1992.
Mr. DeMarco worked for his uncle at the Venetian Dairy in North Adams, Mass., and for various shoe companies there. After moving to Bennington, he and his wife operated a grocery store, and later he founded DeMarco’s Sporting Goods, which he operated until his retirement in 1982.
He was a Bennington County Deputy Sheriff for more than 30 years, a life member of Bennington Elks Lodge 567 and the Stamford Fish and Game Club, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1575 in Johnstown, N.Y. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington.
Survivors include a sister, Elizabeth Paquin of Williamstown, Mass.; a brother, Louis DeMarco of North Adams, Mass.; a great-great-niece and his caregiver, Jennifer Free of Bennington; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was predeceased by four sisters, Irene DeMarco, Mary Folino, Rita Abuisi and Theresa Babeu; and five brothers, Paul, John, Angelo, Lawrence and Thomas DeMarco.
The memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Shrine in North Adams, Mass. Burial will be private in Southview cemetery in North Adams.
There will be no calling hours.

Janet B. Wilcox
POWNAL — Janet Baker Wilcox, 67, died Dec. 28, 2002, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington with cancer.
She was born May 28, 1935, in Pownal, the daughter of Henry and Alta (Niles) Baker.
She received her education in North Pownal and Hoosick Falls, N.Y.
She married
Robert Wilcox on Feb. 9, 1957, in North Pownal. He died in 1992.
Mrs. Wilcox and her husband owned and operated various businesses in Pownal. She had also worked at Thomson Mill and Mount Anthony Union High School in the attendance office, the guidance office and for the athletic director.
She enjoyed gardening, the family camp on Lake St. Catherine and auto racing.
Survivors include a son, Robert Wilcox of Pownal; two daughters, Brenda Lawson of Bennington and Patty Levesque Jr. of Shaftsbury; a brother, Harvey Baker of Pownal; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Pownal with the Rev. Gaylord Campbell, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Park Lawn cemetery in Bennington.
Friends may call Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington.

Leslie Crossman Rites
SPRINGFIELD — The funeral service for Leslie Crossman, 90, who died Dec. 27, 2002, was held Monday at the Adams & Kenney Funeral Homes in Chester with the Rev. Earle Bishop officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Simonsville cemetery.
A reception was held at the American Legion in Chester following the service.
Honorary pallbearers were Robert Crossman, Donald Crossman, Rick Crossman and Douglas Guy.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Adams & Kenney Funeral Homes in Chester.
Catherine W. Campney Rites
BENNINGTON — The funeral service for Catherine Wilma Campney, 72, who died Dec. 28, 2002, was held Monday at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington with the Rev. Amy Arnold, pastor of the Church of God, officiating. Burial followed in White Chapel cemetery in Bennington.
Joseph Krawczyk of American Legion Post 13 of Bennington and Louis Levine of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1332 of Bennington presented the flag to the family.
Pallbearers were Earl Bump Jr., Shannon Sherwood, Michael Sherwood, William Kapusta, Richard Taber and Daniel Taber.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington.
Maxwell W. Sanderson
SHREWSBURY — Maxwell W. Sanderson, 87, died Aug. 12, 2002, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 18, 1914, in Shrewsbury, the son of Allen and Maude (Blanchard) Sanderson.
He was a self-employed farmer on the Sanderson farm in Shrewsbury.
Mr. Sanderson was a charter member of the Mount Holly Grange since 1933, a member of the Vermont State Grange, the National Grange and the Killington Pomona Grange. He was a former member of Mount Holly Baptist Church.
Survivors include a brother, Lee Sanderson of Shrewsbury, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Fordice Sanderson in 1983 and Cecil Sanderson in 2000.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland with the Rev. Edward Hackett, pastor of United Methodist Church in Rutland, officiating. Burial will follow in Northam cemetery in Shrewsbury.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m.

Ann Zawistoski
WEST RUTLAND — Ann Zawistoski, 92, died Aug. 12, 2002, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Mullin-Clifford Funeral Home in West Rutland.
David M. Cheseldine
MIDDLETOWN SPRINGS — David Malcolm Cheseldine, 73, died Aug. 6, 2002, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
He was born April 16, 1929, in Middlesborough, England, the son of John and Mabel (Beanland) Cheseldine.
He graduated from Birmingham University and emigrated to Canada in 1958, and later moved to Bennington.
He married
Christine Wilson in 1958.
Mr. Cheseldine worked as a research chemist for Sprague Electric in Canada and North Adams, Mass., for 28 years, retiring to Middletown Springs and Tyson, N.C.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Andrew of London, England, Stephen of Philadelphia, Pa., and Neil of Montpelier; a brother, Patrick of Ross-on-Wye, England.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Priscilla’s Inn in Middletown Springs on Aug. 24 from 3 to 5 p.m. followed by a memorial service at St. Anne’s Church in Middletown Springs at 6 p.m. A graveside service will be held in Middletown Springs cemetery at the convenience of the family.
