Alden L. Currier
Alden L. Currier, 82, of Rutland Town died May 13, 2003, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 10, 1920, in Sherburne, the son of Robert and Edna (Boutwell) Currier.
He was a self-employed builder and contractor.
Mr. Currier was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II.
He was a life member of the Mendon United Methodist Community Church, St. Paul’s Lodge 25, F&AM, of Brandon and its past master, the BPOE 345 of Rutland, Cairo Temple Shrine, and American Legion Post 31 in Rutland.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening, and was a Boston Red Sox fan.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine (Whitney) Currier of Rutland Town; two daughters, Kathleen Samler of Brandon and Maureen Wilcox of Mendon; a son, Alan Currier of Rutland Town; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three sisters, Lucy Powell, Lois Haven and Clara Phillips; two brothers, Andrew Currier and Alec Currier; and a great-granddaughter.
The funeral service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Mendon United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Boutwell, pastor of the Pawlet Community Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Cheney Hill cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Vermont Division Inc., 13 Loomis St., Montpelier, 05602, or the Shriners Hospital, 516 Carew St., Springfield, Mass., 01104.

Johnston Infant
HUBBARDTON — Katilyn E. Johnston, infant daughter of Roger and Crystal (Webster) Johnston, died at birth May 14, 2003.
Survivors include her parents of Hubbardton; her brother, Fletcher Johnston of Hubbardton; her paternal grandparents, Ronald and Marinell Johnston of Ira; her maternal grandparents, John Webster of Winchester, N.H., and Connie Hill of Castleton; her great-grandparents; and many aunts and uncles.
The memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Rutland County Humane Society through the office of the Ducharme Funeral Home, P.O. Box 474, Castleton, 05735.

SUDBURY — The memorial service for Edward James Woodbury, 63, who died May 9, 2003, will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Mallory Funeral Home in Fair Haven with the Rev. Noreen Carter, pastor of the Castleton Federated Church, officiating. A private graveside committal service will take place at a later date.

The graveside service for Edna Mae Pelkey, 76, of Rutland, who died Jan. 20, 2003, was held Friday in Tenney cemetery in Mendon. The Rev. Reid Mayo, pastor of Christ the King Church in Rutland, officiated.
Bearers were Neil Crossman, Dean Crossman, Thomas Tardiff and Brian Pelkey.

The U.S. Army 86th Brigade of Northfield provided military honors.

WHITEHALL, N.Y. — The graveside service for Carol Ann VanGuilder, 61, who died May 12, 2003, was held Wednesday in Cedar Grove cemetery in Fair Haven, Vt. The Rev. Richard Tinney, parish priest of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Fair Haven, officiated.

Orville A. Curtis
BRAINTREE — Orville A. Curtis, 87, died May 13, 2003, at Rowan Court Nursing Home in Barre.
He was born July 18, 1915, in Hanover, N.H., the son of Edgar and Marion (Osceola) Curtis.
He was educated in Chelsea and Northfield schools.
He married
Elizabeth Rennie on June 22, 1945. She died in 1995.
Mr. Curtis worked for Claflin’s Store in Randolph, and later owned and operated the Curtis Real Estate Agency, retiring in the early 1980s.
He was a member of the Randolph Rotary Club and the Randolph Senior Center.
He enjoyed deer hunting, traveling, reading and gardening.
Survivors include his adopted daughter, Janice Northrup of Randolph; a sister, Arlene Sears of Northfield; a brother, Edgar Curtis of Rochester, N.Y.; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Glenn Curtis.
The graveside service will be held Friday at 9 a.m. in East Braintree cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Day Funeral Home.
Edward C. Gallett
SHAFTSBURY — Edward C. Gallett, 63, died May 13, 2003, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.
He was born April 19, 1940, in Bennington, the son of Chester and Gladys (Zepka) Gallett.
He graduated from Bennington High School in 1958.
He married
Kathleen King on June 29, 1963, in Bennington.
Mr. Gallett worked at Cushman Manufacturing Co. in North Bennington and later at Globe Union, Bennington College and Stratton Mountain Corp. at the Long Trail House until his retirement.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, tennis and biking. He was an avid downhill skier.
Survivors include his wife of Shaftsbury; three daughters, Theresa Smith of Bennington, Linda Bow of Bellows Falls and Michelle Gallett of Winooski; his mother of Shaftsbury; a brother, Donald Gallett of Shaftsbury; three grandchildren; and aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Elrod.
The funeral service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Park Lawn cemetery.
Friends may call today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. All members of the Norshaft Lions Club are asked to meet at the funeral home at 6 p.m.
