WOODSTOCK — The graveside service for George E. Wright, 71, who died March 30, 2003, was held Thursday in Highland cemetery in Woodstock with the Rev. David Armstrong and John Martens officiating.
American Legion of Chester and Ludlow and the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Springfield provided military honors.

PROCTORSVILLE — The graveside service for Mary E. Palmer, 97, who died Jan. 5, 2003, was held Friday in Hillcrest cemetery in Proctorsville with the Rev. Richard Bower officiating.

CHESTER — The graveside service for Morris Glidden, 77, who died Feb. 23, 2003, was held Friday in Pleasantview cemetery in Chester with John Spaulding officiating.

Julia A. Litevich Rites
SPRINGFIELD — The graveside service for Julia A. Litevich, 79, who died Dec. 28, 2002, was held Friday in Oakland cemetery in Springfield with the Rev. Peter Carmichael, rector of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, officiating.

Harry M. Allen Rites
NORTH SPRINGFIELD — The graveside service for Harry M. Allen, 76, who died Feb. 11, 2003, was held Friday in Oakland cemetery in Springfield with the Rev. Thomas Hiltsley, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating.
Members of the Robert L. Johnson Post 771 of Springfield and American Legion Post 67 of Chester provided military honors. Elmer Kruse presented the flag to the family.

Thomas J. Zovistoski
GRANVILLE, N.Y. — The graveside service for Thomas J. Zovistoski, who died Jan. 20, 2003, will be held Saturday, May 17, at 8:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel cemetery.

Lorraine F. Lewis Rites
SUDBURY — The funeral service for Lorraine Frances Lewis, 78, who died May 7, 2003, was held Saturday at the Brandon Congregational Church. The Rev. Richard White, pastor, officiated.
Pallbearers were Dale Harris, Ron Euber, Jim Sherwin, and Gary Stanley.
Members of Brandon American Legion Post #55 accorded military honors graveside. Chaplain Norman Reed conducted the Legionnaire’s Service and presented the American flag to the brother, Jerry deLancey.
Following the service, the family received friends at the church hall.
Thomas D. Wilhelm Rites
CHESTER — The funeral service for Thomas D. Wilhelm, 60, who died May 5, 2003, was held at the First Baptist Church in Chester on Saturday. The Rev. Thomas Charlton officiated.
Burial followed in Pleasantview cemetery in Chester.
Edward J. Woodbury
SUDBURY — Edward James Woodbury, 63, died May 9, 2003, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.
Mr. Woodbury was born in Castleton on Oct. 23, 1939, the son of Frank A. And Hazel (Delorm) Woodbury. He received his early education in Castleton schools and attended Fair Haven High School.
In his earlier years, he worked on the family farm in Castleton. He later worked at General Electric, at Pratt-Whitney in East Hartford, Conn., at Rutland Foundation and Pyramid Concrete Foundations. He retired in 1984 from Russell Corp. due to a disability.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose.
Survivors include his companion, Mildred Ricketts of Sudbury; a daughter, Hazel Hillier of Benson; two sons, Edward Woodbury Jr. of Benson and Michael Ricketts of West Rutland; two brothers, Francis Woodbury and Thomas Woodbury, both of Castleton; a sister, Lucy Kookluger of Castleton; four grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, John Woodbury and Frank Woodbury; and a sister, Rose Woodbury.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Mallory Funeral Home in Fair Haven. The Rev. Noreen Carter, pastor of the Castleton Federated Church, will officiate. Private burial will take place at a later date.
There are no public calling hours.
Joseph A. Barrows
BRANDON — Joseph Arthur Barrows, 41, died May 10, 2003, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Barrows was born in Middlebury Oct. 29, 1961, the son of Clifford and Linda (Blanchard) Barrows. He received his education in Brandon schools and attended Otter Valley Union High School.
Following school, he joined the Vermont National Guard. He had worked on a local farm for several years.
He married
Laurie Pond on Sept. 21, 1991, in Brandon. He moved his family to Morganton, N.C., where he worked as a machinist for Morganton Tool & Die. He returned to Brandon in 1995 and worked at Rutland Plywood and later Keith’s Machine Shop.
Survivors include his wife of Brandon; two daughters, Paula Barrows and Kristina Barrows, both of Brandon; his mother of Brandon; his father of Vergennes; two sisters, Lucy Barrows of Leicester and Amy Barrows of Brandon; a brother, Robert Barrows of Brandon; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, James Barrows.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon. The Rev. Albert Baltz, pastor of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, will officiate. A private burial will take place later in Pine Hill cemetery.
There are no public calling hours.

Walter C. Perry Sr.
HAMPTON, N.Y. — A graveside committal service for Walter C. Perry Sr., 81, who died March 3, 2003, will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Poultney cemetery in Poultney, Vt. The Rev. Stephen R. Payne, pastor of the United Baptist Church of Poultney, will officiate.
The Durfee Funeral Home of Fair Haven, Vt., is in charge of arrangements.
Carol Ann VanGuilder
WHITEHALL, N.Y. — Surrounded by her family, Carol Ann VanGuilder, 61, passed into the arms of the Lord at her home in Whitehall, N.Y., on Friday morning, May 9, 2003.
Carol was born in Low Hampton, N.Y., on May 14, 1941, the daughter of the late Robert and Myrtle (Munger) Crawley. She was educated in the Fair Haven school system and graduated from Fair Haven High School with the Class of 1959.
She was employed at the Staco Thermometer factory in Poultney for a total of nine years and later as a machine operator for the Aircraft Engine Division of General Electric Co. in Rutland for several years, retiring due to her illness.
Carol is survived by her five children, Diane Wescott, John VanGuilder and Jeffrey VanGuilder, all of Whitehall, N.Y., Michael VanGuilder of Saginaw, Mich., and Keith Van Guilder of Tinmouth, Vt.; her five grandsons and three granddaughters. She is also survived by her sister, Joyce Kilburn of Fair Haven, Vt.; her niece, Sally Corey, and nephew, Robert Kilburn, both of Fair Haven, Vt.; her great niece, Denise Navarrete, and her great-great nephew, Jesse Navarrete, both of Mechanicville, N.Y.
There will be no visiting hours.
Graveside memorial services will be conducted on Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at 10 a.m. in Cedar Grove cemetery in Fair Haven, Vt. The Rev. Richard W. Tinney, parish priest of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Fair Haven, will officiate.

Henry L. Merritt
HARTLAND — Henry L. Merritt, 80, died May 9, 2003, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
He was born Sept. 23, 1922, in Claremont, N.H., the son of Lewis E. and Della (Dunsmoor) Merritt. He graduated from Windsor High School in 1940. He attended Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H..
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy as a sonar specialist in North Africa. He was honorably discharged in 1944.
He married
Cordelia P. Newton in Hartland on Oct. 5, 1990.
He worked at Hubbard Farms Hatchery in Walpole, N.H., keeping chickens at his farm in Hartland for hatching egg production for several years. He was an original partner of Vermont Log Buildings in Hartland. He later worked for several local construction companies and was a self-employed carpenter until his retirement.
Mr. Merritt was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church of Hartland, where he held many offices, including moderator, trustee and life deacon. He was one of the initiators of the roast beef suppers in Hartland and was instrumental in the planning and construction of the church fellowship hall addition. He served as sexton of the Hartland Village cemetery Association for many years, a job he inherited from his father.
He was a member of American Legion Post 26 in Hartland and an incorporator of the Hartland Volunteer Fire Department and had served on the Hartland Select Board. He was also a member of the Hartland Nature Club and began the Hartland Cross Country Ski Trails Association. He developed building lots in Hartland for Habitat for Humanity.
In 1946, he planted 800 sugar maples in Hartland. As the trees matured, he built his sugar house and became a maple sugar producer.
He was an avid bicyclist, once riding 800 miles through the Canadian Rockies. He enjoyed gardening, canoeing, camping, hiking, reading and traveling.
Survivors include his wife of Hartland; two daughters, Pamela Merritt of Rutland and Martha Coutermarsh of North Hartland; three stepdaughters, Courtenay Newton of Seattle, Wash., Amy Benton of Fort Collins, Colo., and Jane Kunin of Hinesburg; a granddaughter; and a niece and a nephew. He was predeceased by a daughter, Jessica Merritt; and two sisters, Geneva Merritt and Rebecca Merritt.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Hartland with the Rev. Robert W. W. Moyer, pastor, officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow at the church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Hartland Village cemetery at a later date.
Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor today from 6 to 8 p.m.
