John L. Benincasa
John L. “Sonny” Benincasa, 73, of Rutland, died April 17, 2003, at his home with cancer.
He was born June 21, 1929, in Rutland, the son of Charles and Jennie (Narcisco) Benincasa.
He graduated from Mount St. Joseph Academy.
He married
Nancy Vitagliano on May 14, 1983, in Rutland.
Mr. Benincasa worked at General Electric Co. for many years, and in earlier years played drums with various orchestras in the Rutland area.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was also a member of the National Guard.
He was a member of St. Peter’s Church and the Parish Council and American Legion Post 31.
Mr. Benincasa enjoyed woodworking and playing his keyboard.
Survivors include his wife of Rutland; three sisters, Laura Benincasa and Mary Mirti, both of Boca Raton, Fla., and Jeanne Zingale of Rutland; nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Annie Frappier and Muffy Lemmo.
The funeral service will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at St. Peter’s Church. A private burial will follow in Calvary cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Monday from noon to 2:30 p.m. at the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.

Geraldine M. Cichon
WEST RUTLAND — Geraldine Marie Cichon, 81, died April 17, 2003, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 21, 1921, in Rutland, the son of Palmer and Alma (Burditt) Munger.
She worked for Stanley Components in Forestville, Conn., retiring in 1977.
She was a member of St. Bridget’s Church and the Moose Club.
Mrs. Cichon enjoyed bingo, knitting and crocheting.
Survivors include a daughter, Florence Tyminski of West Rutland; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Bronislaus Cichon in 1980; a son, Joseph Cichon in 1990; and a sister, Eunice Morris in 1976.
The funeral service will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at St. Bridget’s Church in West Rutland. Burial will follow in Evergreen cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. and Monday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Mullin-Clifford Funeral Home in West Rutland.

Gertrude Ramson
HYDEVILLE — Gertrude C. Ramson, 92, died peacefully at Misty Heather Morn with family by her side on April 18, 2003.
She was born Aug. 7, 1910, in Bethlehem, Pa., the daughter of Henry and Rosa (Fox) Berninger.
Gertrude was owner, operator of Roxie’s Fries for 43 years and was one of the founders of Radio Station WVNR in Poultney. In the late 1940’s, Gertrude and her husband owned and operated one of the first Harley Davidson shops in the area.
Surviving are a daughter, Virginia Prescott and her husband Donald of Rutland; a son, Richard Ramson and his wife Dorothy of Wells; 10 grandchildren, Sandi Rivers and her husband Tony and their children, Nancy Amerio, Jason Church, Amanda Church and Joshua Church; Kelley Ramson and her children, Samuel Ramson and Maitland Pike; Thomas Prescott, Cathy Friend, Steven Prescott, Suzzette Chevette, Jennifer Burge, Todd Ramson, Todd Prior and Joy Brown; 21 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Norval Ramson in 1991; two sisters, Anna Lewis and Frances Diebert; six brothers, Paul Berninger, William Berninger, Frederick Berninger, Otto Berninger, Edwin Berninger and Alexander Berninger; and a grandson, Bradley Ramson.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland. Burial will follow in Cheney Hill cemetery in Rutland Town.
Friends may call at the Clifford Funeral Home Monday from 4 to 7 p.m.

William M. Cressy
DANBY — William M. Cressy, 74, died April 18, 2003, at his residence.

Barbara C. Erickson
CHENANGO BRIDGE, N.Y. — Barbara C. Erickson, 65, died April 17, 2003, at Wilson Hospital with cancer.
She was born Oct. 31, 1937, in Rutland, Vt., the daughter of Rocco and Eunice (Scrime) Cioffi.
She was a member St. Catherine of Sienna Church and the Chenango Bridge Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Harry Erickson of Chenango Bridge; two daughters, Linda Genna of Mansfield, Texas and Susan Salinkas of Chenango Bridge; a son, Mark Erickson of Chenango Bridge; three grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. at the William R. Chase & Son Funeral Home in Port Dickinson, and continue with a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine of Sienna. Burial will follow in Holy Spirit cemetery.
Friends may call Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Beatrice Hebert
YORK, Maine — Beatrice (Hawker) Hebert, 93, died April 17, 2003, at Sentry Hill Nursing Home in York Harbor.
She was born Jan. 3, 1910, in Montreal. She was a resident of Cuttingsville, Vt., and later Rutland, for many years before moving to Maine.
She was active in Girl Scouts, various booster clubs, and the Immaculate Heart of Mary St. Ann’s Society.
She enjoyed sewing, knitting and gardening.
Survivors include a son, Nelson Hebert of Tucson, Ariz.; two daughters, Mary Gaynor of Houston, Texas and Carol Poirier of South Berwick, Maine; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Alfred Hebert; and a daughter, Claire Janes.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Raphael’s Parish in Kittery. Burial will take place at a later date in Holy Cross cemetery in Franklin, N.H.
Calling hours will be held Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home in Kittery.

The funeral service for Maddison Bryce McPhee, infant daughter of Rodney and Nicole (Peck) McPhee, who died April 11, 2003, was held Friday at the Aldous Funeral Home.

Earl O. LaFountain Jr.
QUECHEE — Earl O. LaFountain Jr., 72, died April 17, 2003, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
He was born Feb. 9, 1931, in Ellenburg Depot, N.Y., the son of Earl and Ora (Clark) LaFountain.
He attended school in Newport, N.H.
He married
Leona Wilson Stetson in 1988.
Mr. LaFountain worked at various jobs as a “jack of all trades,” and for the past 20 years, as a caretaker for the Teagle’s in Woodstock.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and canoeing.
Survivors include his wife of Quechee; seven daughters, Linda McCarthy of Tyngsboro, Mass., Mary Fillault of Martha’s Vineyard, Mass., Laurie Garen of Twin Falls, Idaho, Mellissa LaFountain of Hartford, Barbara Chamberlain of Woodstock, Donna Arnold of Berlin and Lynn Stetson of Boston, Mass.; six sons, Keith LaFountain of Clarendon, Jimmie Hewitt of Bridgewater Corners, Mike Hewitt of North Bridgewater, Earl LaFountain of Rutland, Bill Stetson of Woodstock and Ronnie Stetson of Fair Haven.; four brothers, Gerald, Douglas and Gary La Fountain, all of Newport, N.H., and Keith LaFountain of Claremont, N.H.; 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
There will be no calling hours.

Jean M. Marsh
WINDSOR — Jean M. Marsh, 51, died April 18, 2003, at Mount Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor.
She was born April 9, 1952, in Windsor, the daughter of Arthur and Nylene (Hodgdon) Monteith.
She received her education in Windsor.
She married
Stephen Marsh on June 14, 1969, in Brownsville.
Mrs. Marsh worked at the Weathervane Restaurant in West Lebanon, N.H., for many years, and most recently at Jesse’s Restaurant in Hanover, N.H.
Survivors include her husband of Windsor; her stepfather, Robert Turgeon of Windsor; a daughter, Wendy Marsh of Windsor; two sons, Stephen Marsh II and Scott Marsh, both of East Plainfield, N.H.; a sister, Beth Quimby of Windsor; two brothers, Kirby Monteith of Unity, N.H., and Dana Monteith of Windsor; two grandchildren and two step grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her mother, Nylene Turgeon; a sister, Connie Kniffen; and a brother, Arthur Monteith.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor with the Rev. Dale Nicholas, pastor of the United Church of Cornish, officiating. Burial will follow in Ascutney cemetery in Windsor.
Friends may call Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
