LEONARD J. BROUILLETTE
SHELDON SPRINGS -- Leonard J. Brouillette, age 82, husband of Audrey (Spicer) Brouillette, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.
He was born June 2, 1919, in Sheldon, the son of the late Leopold and Helena (Juaire) Brouillette.
He was a resident of Sheldon most of his life and was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was employed at the Missisquoi Pulp Mill for 35 years, retiring in 1978.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey Brouillette, and a son, Alan Brouillette; one brother, Paul Brouillette of Enfield, Conn.; two sisters, Rita King of Enfield, Conn. and Antoinette Clements of Hinesburg; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Gerald Brouillette.
Funeral services were to be held this Monday morning at 11 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Sheldon Springs. Interment will be held at a later date. There were no visiting hours.

MANVILLE CONWAY
KOKOMO, IND./ST. ALBANS -- Word was received on Dec. 26, 2001 of the death of Mr. Manville Conway, age 92, on Dec. 23, 2001 in Kokomo, Ind.
Mr. Manville Conway was born on June 28, 1909 in Greentown, Ind. He is survived by his wife Laura Sanders Conway, currently of Augusta, ME and formerly of Greentown, Ind. Mrs. Conway is the former Laura Sanders of St. Albans.
Mr. Conway also leaves behind his daughter Susan Clauser of Greentown, Ind. and her family; and his son Larry Conway of Fla. and his family; three step-children, Patricia Sanders Desrochers of Augusta, ME and her three children Kevin Desrochers of Burlington, Joseph Desrochers of Swanton, and James Desrochers of Winooski, Pamela Desrochers West of St. Albans, and Lisette Desrochers Trippany of Swanton and their spouses; and all ten step great-grandchildren.
Carole Sanders Jakes of Oakridge, Tenn., her son Ronald Jakes Jr. and his wife Dhruti, both of Atlanta, Ga. John Sanders of San Francisco, Calif., his sons Nicholas Sanders of Cambridge, Mass., and Jonathan Sanders of San Francisco, Calif.
A funeral service was held in Greentown, Ind. on Dec. 28, 2001.

LOUISE MARY PLAYFUL
ST. ALBANS - Louise M. Playful, 81, a resident of St. Albans died early Tuesday morning Jan. 1, 2002, in the Redstone Villa Nursing Home in St. Albans.
Louise was born in Swanton, Aug. 16, 1920, the daughter of the late William and Edna (Benway) Lackey. Louise was pre-deceased by her husband Clifford Playful on May 11, 1999.
Louise is survived by four sons, Daniel Shedrick of Highgate, Larry Shedrick, Carlton Shedrick and his wife JoAnn, Terry Shedrick all of Swanton; two daughters, Sherry Decell and her husband Norbert of St. Albans, Cheryl Jordan and her husband Michael of Reno, Nev.; and two stepdaughters Carol Guillmette and her husband Roger of Colchester, Nancy Smith and her husband Edson of Canada. She also leaves several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Louise was one of Jehovah's Witnesses in the Swanton congregation. She was a loyal and active member in her faith and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
The family wishes to extend their thanks and appreciation to the physician and staff at Redstone Villa for the wonderful care provided to her.
There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on Route 7, Swanton, Vt. A private burial will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Louise's memory to the Watchtower Society of New York, 25 Columbia Heights, Brooklyn, N.Y. 11201-2483. BARBARA MARY LYMAN
ST. ALBANS BAY - Barbara M. Lyman, 76, passed away Dec. 31, 2001 at the Northwestern Medical Center following a short illness. She was born in Rutland on Dec. 23, 1925.
Barb was an avid bingo player who also loved puzzles, music and spent many hours sewing pillows for friends. She was a member of the Franklin County Senior Center, Vermont Special Olympics and had recently retired from the Vermont Republic Industries.
Barb is survived by close friends, Charles and Karen Shadle and their family of St. Albans Bay whom she made her home with, also Kathleen Berard-Brown, Tina Cross, Barb Paradee, Carla Walton, Heather Barrette, her two cats, Duke and Lily, and dog, Rylee.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Roland Ludlam of the Church of the Rock officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Barbara's name may be made to the Franklin County Senior Center, 75 Messenger St., St. Albans, Vt. 05478 or the Vermont Special Olympics, 368 Avenue D, Suite 30, Williston, Vt. 05495. PHYLLIS LASHWAY PFANSTIEL
SWANTON -- Mrs. Phyllis Lashway Pfanstiel, 75, a longtime resident of 8 Pine St. in Swanton Village and more recently a resident of the Holiday House Nursing Facility, died Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 1, 2002 in the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.
Phyllis was born in Quebec, Canada, May 21, 1926, the daughter of the late Wilfred and Evelyn (Johnson) Fortier. In Sept. of 1946, she married Davidson Lashway, who predeceased her on Oct. 30, 1967.
She was associated for several years with A&P, Prouty's IGA, Blouin's IGA and the Softlite Company all in Swanton, as well as serving as the Jewelry Department Manager for Ames Department Store and also worked at the former Anne's Bake Shop both in St. Albans. She was a member of the American Legion, Green Mountain Post #1, and Ladies Auxiliary in St. Albans.
Phyllis leaves her daughter, Debbie Reynolds and husband Tom, and granddaughter Katie, all of Highgate; two sisters, Theresa Gregory of Fla. and Loretta Turner of Calif.; a brother, Michael Fortier of Conn. Also surviving are close friends Angie and John Elliott of Swanton, as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
At Phyllis' request there will be no calling hours or funeral at this time. A private committal service and interment will take place in the spring in St. Mary's Cemetery. Gifts in Phyllis' memory may be made to the American Lung Association of Vermont, 30 Farrell St., So. MARION L. LUMBRA
MONTGOMERY -- Marion L. Lumbra, age 85, widow of Eugene Lumbra, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002 at the Roncalli Nursing Home in St. Albans.
She was born in Montgomery Center March 14, 1916, the daughter of the late Harry and Mary (Demar) Elkins.
She was a resident of Montgomery Center most of her life and was a member of St. Isidore's Catholic Church where she was an organist for 15 years, a member of the Ladies of St. Ann and St. Theresa Societies and was on the Parish Council. Mr. and Mrs. Lumbra lived in Burlington from 1957 to 1975, at which time she was employed at UVM and Forest Hills Factory Outlet.
Marion will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. She was a devoted wife to her loving husband of nearly 45 years, a cherished mother to her children, and a loving "Grandma, " "Gram, " and "Great" to her grandchildren. Everyone knew her as a woman of tremendous religious beliefs and values and one who exuded such great inspiration to all.
She loved to crochet and with that great skill created such beautiful afghans. Her house was always so homey and filled with such wonderful smells of homemade cooking and baking - a culinary skill that was second nature to her and a delight which she so proudly shared with all.
Marion was a self-taught organist and could play any tune that she heard - all by ear, not by note. Her organ playing was a big part of her life with her favorite times being those with her family around the organ singing many beautiful hymns and songs that she wonderfully played.
She is survived by a son and his wife, Reginald and Geraldine Lumbra of Richford; three daughters and their husbands, Jeannean and Larry Sylvester of Montgomery Center, Paulette and Carey O'Bar of South Richford, and Linda and Ronald Viau of Underhill; three sisters, Mary Soule and her husband Arthur of Montgomery Center, Evelyn Barron and her husband Arnold of Spring Valley, Calif., and Eleanor Delaire of Burlington; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Eugene, she was predeceased by three brothers, Clayton, William, and Charles Elkins.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at St. Isidore's Catholic Church in Montgomery Center with Rev. Frank Eksterowicz celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be next spring in St. Isidore's Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours.

ALMA CURTIN BENOIT
ENOSBURG FALLS -- Alma Curtin Benoit, age 93, widow of Elzear Benoit, passed on to a better place Tuesday morning, Jan. 1, 2002, at the Holiday House Nursing Home in St. Albans.
She was born in Enosburg Falls, Dec. 31, 1908, the daughter of the late William and Julia (Duso) Curtin.
She was a life long resident of Enosburg Falls. She was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and a member of the Ladies of St. Ann. She graduated from UVM Normal School in 1930 with a degree in teaching. She taught second grade at Enosburg Elementary School for 39 years, retiring in 1970. Alma will be remembered for her tireless dedication, her interesting classroom environment, her quiet but firm discipline. She was a proud member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society where she was able to meet and socialize with other teachers.
Her camp at Lake Carmi brought her many joyful experiences. She never tired of watching the lake or the beautiful sunsets there, and captured many beautiful scenes on film. She was an avid bird watcher, and could often be found surveying the bird feeders at camp or from the kitchen window. Her love of animals provided a long succession of dogs and cats with a life of luxury. They were pampered beyond imagination.
She was very dedicated to her family and friends and took great enjoyment from babysitting her grandchildren. She often said that her reason for retiring from teaching was to become a full time babysitter.
She is survived by one daughter, Nancy Simmons and her husband Scott of Essex Jct.; her grandchildren, Julie Rand of Richmond, and Catherine Sage and her husband Andrew of Langdon, N.H.; five great-grandchildren, Molly, Jake and Gabe Rand, and Hannah and Ian Sage; one brother, William Curtin of Enosburg Falls; a stepdaughter, Kerneth Gardner of Colchester; seven step-grandchildren, Phyllis, Bradley, Paula, Cathy, Paula, Gail and Karen, and their families; several nieces and nephews. She is now at rest with her husband, Elzear, who predeceased her in 1955. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Irene Barter and Molly Murray; a stepdaughter, Jean Cotter; two step-grandchildren, Marie (Cotter) French and Becky Gardner.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. Gerard Leclerc celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home on 96 Dickinson Ave. in Enosburg Falls.
