Irene Byrne

STOCKBRIDGE — Irene Byrne, 97, a former resident of Randolph, died Feb. 7, 2003, at Gifford Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 17, 1905, in Gaysville, the daughter of Arthur and Katherine (Flint) Wright.

She married Thomas Byrne on Sept. 23, 1928. He died in 1990.

Mrs. Byrne worked for the Brigham Candy Co. of Boston for many years.

She enjoyed cooking and watching television.

Survivors include her cousins, Ramona Adams of Stockbridge, Rhoda Jarvis of Braintree and Geneva Allen of St. Cloud, Fla.

She was predeceased by a sister, Ivy McDonald.

The funeral service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Day Funeral Home in Randolph with the Rev. Kathy Eddy officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Mount Pleasant cemetery in Stockbridge.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Joslyn House, 16 Maple St., Randolph, 05060.

Donald R. Kendall

WOODSTOCK — Donald R. Kendall, 76, died Feb. 7, 2003, at his home.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock.

Richard R. Rumboldt Sr.

BENNINGTON — Richard R. Rumboldt Sr., 81, died Feb. 6, 2003, at Bennington Health & Rehabilitation Center.

He was born July 9, 1921, in Bennington, the son of Richard and Eva Arthens (Harvey) Rumboldt.

He received his education in Bennington.

He married Elizabeth McDonald in 1975. She died in 1996. He later married Frances Campbell.

Mr. Rumboldt worked as a truck driver for William E. Morse Construction Co., the Pownal Tanning Co. in North Pownal as a machine operator for more than 40 years, and retired from Davis Construction in Arlington.

In earlier years, he was a stock car driver. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a wrestling fan.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Rumboldt of Bennington; a daughter, Roseina Dean of North Pownal; a son, Richard Rumboldt Jr. of Bennington; a sister, Irene Barbeau of Woodford; four grandchildren; aunts and uncles; nieces, nephews and cousins.

The graveside service will be held at a later date in Woodford cemetery in Woodford.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Vermont Heart Association, through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, 05201.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.

Irene E. Desautels

WINOOSKI — Irene E. Desautels, 84, died Feb. 6, 2003, at Starr Farm Nursing Center in Burlington.

She was born May 26, 1918, in Winooski, the daughter of Albert and Roseanna (Gauthier) Paquette.

She married Leonard Desautels on Aug. 22, 1942, in Winooski. He died in 1988.

She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish, the Society of St. Ann and the Daughters of Isabella. She was also a volunteer for the American Red Cross and RSVP.

Mrs. Desautels enjoyed oil painting and playing cards.

Survivors include two sons, Russell Desautels of Belmont and Richard Desautels of Milton; six daughters, Maryrose Evens of East Windsor, Conn., Pauline Sliker of Burlington, Elaine Barrigar of Goshen, Conn., Dianne Foote of Colchester, Jo An Duggan of Milton and Nancy Corbin of Essex Junction; 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Lucille Lavigne.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Winooski. Interment will follow in St. Francis Xavier cemetery.

Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the LaVigne Funeral Home in Winooski.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Francis Xavier Renovation Fund, St. Peter Street, Winooski, 05404.

Arrangements are under the direction of the LaVigne Funeral Home.

Clinton G. Carpenter

CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. — Clinton G. Carpenter Sr., 82, died Feb. 3, 2003, at the VA Medical Center in Albany.

He was born July 19, 1920, in Randolph, Vt., the son of Arthu and Grace(Buzzell) Carpenter.

He graduated from Randolph Technical College.

H married Ruth Beckley on Aug. 30, 1942.

He worked as a dairyman, retiring in 1985 from Daiylea in Syracuse as a senior quality area supervisor.

Mr. Carpenter was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon and the American Theater Campaign Ribbon.

He enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include his wife; a son, James Carpenter of Cambridge; a daughter, R. Arlene Carpenter of Cambridge; two brothers, Arthur Carpenter II of Texas and Leo Carpenter of Georgia; a sister, Mildred Hill of Wilder, Vt.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Clinton Carpenter Jr., in 1995.

Services were private. Burial, with military honors, was held in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cambridge Valley Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 52, or the Cambridge Fire Department, Cambridge, 12816.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Ackley & Ross Funeral Home in Cambridge.

Anna Quesnel Rites

SALISBURY — The funeral Mass for Anna Quesnel, 70, who died Feb. 4, 2003, was celebrated Friday at St. Mary’s Church in Middlebury with the Rev. Justin Baker officiating.

Organist was Kevin Parizo.

Pallbearers were Mike Dame, Paul Dame, Rick Quesnel, Randy Quesnel, Sam Quesnel and Jed Quesnel.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Sanderson Funeral Home in Middlebury.

Patricia McCullough

ST. ALBANS — Patricia Anna McCullough, 77, died Feb. 7, 2003, at Haven Health Care Nursing Home in St. Albans where she resided for the past several years.

Ms. McCullough was born on April 3, 1925, in Florence daughter of Eugene and Anna (Nelson) McCullough.

She is survived by two sisters, Doris Kennedy of Fairhaven, Mass., and Beverly Woodcare of Bradenton, Fla.; a stepsister, Edith Kosher of Port Charles, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents and stepmother, Edna McCullough; four brothers, William, Robert, Lloyd and Harry L. McCullough; and two stepbrothers, Kenneth and James D. McCullough.

A graveside service will be held at the family’s convenience in Evergreen cemetery in Pittsford.

Memorial contributions may be made to ARC, 128 Merchants Row, Suite 302, Rutland, VT 05701.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford.

Donald Crandall

RUTLAND — Donald C. Crandall, 61, died Feb. 8, 2003, at Mountain View Genesis Center.

He was born June 3, 1941, in Rutland, son of John and Blanche (Matt) Crandall.

He attended Rutland High School.

Mr. Crandall married Theresa McLaughlin in 1981.

He was employed by Metromail Corp.

Survivors include his wife, Theresa Crandall of Rutland; three brothers, Jack, Wayne, and Thomas Crandall, all of Rutland; and a sister, Connie Brown of Hydeville.

Friends may call 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Clifford Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Clifford Funeral Home.

Alice Traynor

RUTLAND — Alice E. Traynor, 72, of Rutland, died Feb. 8, 2003, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center.

Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Clifford Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Clifford Funeral Home.

Anita McCourt

RUTLAND — Anita A. McCourt, 76, of Rutland died Feb. 7, 2003, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Hospital after a brief illness.

Mrs. McCourt was a resident of Philadelphia, Pa., before moving to Vermont in 1992.

Survivors include a daughter, Lucia McCourt of Rutland and a grandson, Williams Wlodarczyk.

Visiting hours and funeral services will be held in Philadelphia.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Clifford Funeral Home.

Alice E. Traynor

Alice E. Traynor, 72, of Rutland died Feb. 8, 2003, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Rutland Nov. 20, 1930, the daughter of James and Aura (Cote) Courcelle.

Mrs. Traynor worked at the Palms Restaurant for 22 years, retiring in 1988.

She enjoyed cooking.

She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.

Survivors include a son, James E. Traynor of Rutland; four daughters, Karen Banks of Pittsford, Nancy Traynor of Rutland, Jennifer Rogers of Memphis, Tenn., and Allison Battles of Rutland; two sisters, Anna Mae St. Peter of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Margaret Ross of Salton City, Calif.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by an infant son, Bruce Traynor.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland. Officiating will be the Rev. Andre Houle, pastor of St. Peter’s Church in Rutland. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery.

Friends may call Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.
