Donald C. Tyler
FORT ANN, N.Y. — Donald C. Tyler, 70, died Feb. 3, 2003, at his residence.
He was born March 29, 1932, in North Granville, the son of Charles and Mabel (Simpson) Tyler.
He was a self-employed farmer.
He enjoyed watching sports, woodworking and hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Janet (Grimm) Tyler; two sons, Peter Tyler and Gary Tyler, both of Fort Ann; two sisters, Thelma Parry of Poultney, Vt., and Jean Whitney of North Granville; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Carlton Tyler; a sister, Ruth McCaughin; and a grandson.
There will be no funeral service.

Rogers Infant
Fiona Skye Rogers, infant, died Feb. 3, 2003, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
She was born Jan. 26, 2003, in Rutland, the daughter of Marc and Megan (Weinbaum) Rogers.
Survivors include her parents of Center Rutland; maternal grandmother, Linda Weinbaum of Egg Harbor, N.J., and maternal grandfather, Stuart Weinbaum of Vineland, N.J.; paternal grandmother, Dorothy Graves of Weston, and paternal grandfather, Bruce Rogers of Nottingham, N.H.; maternal great-grandfather, Jules Weinbaum of Brooklyn, N.Y.; paternal great-grandmother, Beatrice Spreadbury of Lynn, Mass.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
The memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 15, at 1 p.m. at the Clarendon Congregational Church.
There will be no calling hours.

Anna Fredette Rites
WEST RUTLAND — The funeral Mass for Anna Fredette, 80, who died Feb. 1, 2003, was celebrated Tuesday at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church with the Rev. Frank Warzocha, pastor, officiating.
Walter Kulig and Joseph Czachor assisted at the Mass. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Stanislaus Kostka cemetery.
Organist was Dorothy Blicharz.
Bearers were Louis Frac, Edward Frac, Mark Frac, James Jones, Thomas Rajda and Jack Wasik.
A prayer service was held Tuesday at the Aldous Funeral Home by the Rev. Warzocha.

Dr. McFarlin
SPRINGFIELD — Dr. Rodney H. McFarlin, 70, died Feb. 3, 2003, at Springfield Hospital.
He was born May 25, 1932, in St. Johnsbury, the son of Raymond and Mildred (Hardy) McFarlin.
He graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy, Lyndon Teacher’s College, and received a master’s degree from the University of Vermont and a doctorate from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio.
Dr. McFarlin was a teacher and coach at Williston Central School in Williston, a teaching principal at Westford Village School in Westford, supervising principal at Williston Central School in Williston, director of the Action Center in Essex Junction, teacher of graduate courses at St. Michael’s College in Winooski, superintendent of schools Essex-Caledonia Supervisory Union in Concord, adjunct assistant professor of education at the University of Vermont in Burlington, director of admissions and development at St. Johnsbury Academy in St. Johnsbury, superintendent of schools for Rutland Northeast Supervisory Union in Brandon, superintendent of schools at Peru in Cumberland, R.I., and principal at Chester-Andover Elementary School in Chester.
He served as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte (Fink) McFarlin of North Springfield, whom he married
on July 10, 1954; three sons, Michael McFarlin of Peru, N.Y., Patrick McFarlin of Newport, N.H., and David McFarlin of Brownsville; a daughter, Laurie Hudson of Pittsford; a sister, Malva Lavigne of Shelburne; eight grandchildren; and two nephews.
The memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ in Springfield with the Rev. William Nelson officiating.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Meals on Wheels of Springfield, or First Congregational Church of Springfield.
Paul M. Smiley
WINDSOR — Paul Milton Smiley, 89, died Feb. 2, 2003, at Mount Ascutney Hospital and Health Care Center in Windsor.
He was born May 21, 1913, in Somerville, Mass., the son of Edmund and Ruth (Hart) Smiley.
He graduated from Winsted (Conn.) High School in 1932, attended University of New Hampshire, and graduated from Plymouth State in 1950.
He taught elementary school in Washington and Sherburne, and was principal at Conway (N.H.) Elementary School. He also worked as a production control manager at the Torrington Co. in Litchfield, Conn., for 18 years, retiring in 1971.
Mr. Smiley was a member of Plymouth State College Alumni.
He enjoyed outdoor sports, history and travel.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma (Webster) Hoisington Smiley of Windsor, whom he married
on June 22, 1985; a son, Douglas Smiley of Lunenburg; two grandsons, two granddaughters and two great-grandsons; nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Norma (Lane) Smiley in 1980.
The memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Old South Congregational Church in Windsor with the Rev. Amanda Lape-Freeberg, pastor, officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Stringer Funeral Home and Crematorium in Claremont, N.H.
Daryl J. Gourley
POMFRET — Daryl John Gourley, 43, died Feb. 1, 2003, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
He was born Sept. 5, 1959, in Hanover, N.H., the son of Daryl and Jensine (Maxham) Gourley.
He enjoyed farming and forestry, and helping people with their haying, firewood, logging and sugaring. He trained and cared for oxen, and won many ribbons at local fairs.
He was a member of the Teago Fire Department in South Pomfret for 23 years.
Survivors include a brother, Peter Gourley of Hartland.
He was predeceased by his father in 1996 and his mother in 2002.
The memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Town Hall in Pomfret with the Rev. Sami McRae, pastor of the Congregational Church in North Pomfret, officiating.
Burial will take place at a later date in Burns cemetery in Pomfret.

Paul E. Bashaw
WALPOLE, N.H. — Paul E. Bashaw, 65, died Feb. 3, 2003, at Cheshire Medical Center in Keene.
He was born Dec. 20, 1937, in Bellows Falls, Vt., the son of Ernest and Mary (Golec) Bashaw.
He graduated from Bellows Falls High School in 1957.
He married
Sandra Hill on May 11, 1963, in Walpole.
Mr. Bashaw worked for Standard Paper in Bellows Falls, and Hubbard Farms in Walpole.
He was a grand knight at the Knights of Columbus in Bellows Falls and a longtime member of the Boy Scouts of America.
Survivors include his wife of Walpole; two sons, Christopher Bashaw of Rochester and Daniel Bashaw of Swanzey; a daughter, Candace Brault of Walpole; two sisters, Lois Frohock of Charlestown and Brona Bilodeau of Swanzey; two brothers, Charles Bashaw of Bellows Falls and Richard Bashaw of Morrisville, Vt.; and seven grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Catherine Bashaw; and a brother, Ernest Bashaw.
Calling hours will be held Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls. The funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church in North Walpole.

Viva F. Rilling
ZEPHYRILLS, Fla. — Viva Flint Rilling, 89, formerly of Randolph, Vt., died Feb. 4, 2003, at Sunbelt Health Care Center in Zephyrhills.
The funeral service will take place at a later date with burial in South View cemetery in Randolph.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.
Nancy Snow Kurrelmeyer
Nancy Snow Kurrelmeyer, of Whiting, Vermont, died unexpectedly at home Saturday, February 1, 2003, at the age of 40. She was born in Burlington, Vt., on August 31, 1962, the daughter of Louis H. Kurrelmeyer and Phyllis A. Damon.
She attended The Brearley School in New York City, and graduated from Rice Memorial High School in Burlington, Vt. She was a graduate of the University of Vermont, B.S. in Mathematics, and of Ohio State University, M.S. in Mathematics.
Nancy worked as a Scientist, Mathematician, Economist and as a Technical and Business Analyst for the Central Intelligence Agency and a variety of Fortune 100 corporations including Exxon, ADP and Schering-Plough.
After leaving Schering-Plough, Nancy worked as a Senior Technical Consultant in the bio/pharmaceutical industry with a variety of distinguished organizations where she was responsible for many successful projects. She was an accomplished technologist, system implementer and instructor. Nancy had a unique gift of making people feel at ease and comfortable and for presenting complex technical matter in a refreshing and logical light. Her commitment as a teacher was always to focus on the success of the individual. Her clients valued her technical experience and skills as well as her gentle manner. Nancy gave her time and talents to the DIA (Drug Information Association) as a tutorial instructor and conference contributor. She will be sorely missed within her professional community.
Nancy was a member of the UVM and Rice Mem. H.S. Golf Teams, and was, for many years, a member of Kwiniaska Golf Club in Shelburne, Vt.
Nancy was a writer of poetry and is the author of five yet-to-be published spy novels, writing under the name of L.J. Hayner.
Nancy had a lifelong passion for camping and hiking, especially in the White Mountains of N.H., and was moving forward with plans to build a self-sufficient house — ‘off the grid’ — in Guildhall, Vt., on her land which faced her beloved Presidential peaks.
Nancy shared her love of mathematics by teaching and mentoring students of all ages.
Nancy is survived by her grandmother, Laura Damon of Burlington, Vt.; mother, Phyllis A. Damon of New York City; stepmother, Martina K. Kurrelmeyer of Shelburne, Vt.; sister, Ellen L. Kurrelmeyer and her husband John S. Travis of Whiting, Vt.; a brother, Louis H. Kurrelmeyer Jr. and his wife Kelley of Brewster, N.Y.; and by her niece and nephew, Amy Kurrelmeyer of Brewster, N.Y., and William Kurrelmeyer of Forrest City, Ark.
Visiting hours will be from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Sanderson Funeral Home, 115 South Main St. in Middlebury, Vt., with a memorial service following immediately. Her ashes will be scattered at a later date, at the discretion of the family, in Guildhall, Vermont.

Elsie Rice Rites
SHOREHAM — The funeral service for Elsie Rice, 79, who died Jan. 31, 2003, was held Tuesday at the Congregational Church in Shoreham with Randy Rice officiating.
Burial will take place at a later date in Lakeview cemetery in Shoreham.
Pianist was Gail Wood.
Pallbearers were Myles Rice, James Robideau, Steve Brileya, Dana LaDuke, Troy LaPell and Tim Deering.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Sanderson Funeral Service in Middlebury.
