Roger W. Walker
SPRINGFIELD — Roger W. Walker, 72, died Jan. 25, 2003, upon arrival at Springfield Hospital.
He was born Jan. 18, 1931, in Marlboro, Mass., the son of Oren and Hilda (Holdsworth) Walker. He attended schools in Massachusetts and later served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
He lived in Massachusetts and New York most of his life, and worked as a meat cutter at several grocery store chains for many years.
On Nov. 20, 1976, he married
Barbara Fairbanks in Worcester, Mass.
Since 1998 he had made his home in Springfield.
He was an avid gardener, and enjoyed raising horses and cattle.
Survivors include his wife of Springfield; two sons, Stephen Walker of Sherborn, Mass., and Joel Walker of Barre, Mass.; two daughters, Shirley Chalmers of Spencer, Mass., and Susan Derrick of Oakham, Mass.; a stepson, Mark Booden of Brimfield, Mass.; and two stepdaughters, Heidi Bourgeois of Canaan, N.H., and Pamela Booden of Charlton, Mass.; and 10 grandchildren.
A funeral service will take place on Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Davis Memorial Chapel with the Rev. William E. Scherwerts, pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Gill and Walker cemetery in Springfield.
There will be no visiting hours.
The Davis Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Willis H. Harris
SPRINGFIELD — Willis H. Harris, 77, died Jan. 24, 2003, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., following a brief illness.
He was born May 14, 1925, in Springfield, the son of Harold and Mildred (Clogston) Harris. He attended schools in Weathersfield and Springfield.
For many years, he was self-employed carpenter and contractor, and his work took him all over New England.
Since 1977, he has made his home in Springfield and continued his contracting work until the time of his death.
His hobbies included fly fishing and hunting.
Survivors include two sons, David Harris of Proctorsville and Mark Harris of Springfield; a brother, Harold Harris Jr. of Walpole, N.H.; two sisters, Gertrude Harris of Springfield and Mary Vittum of Charlestown, N.H.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife, Miriam J. (Lee) Harris in 1997 and by a sister, Josephine Curtis.
A funeral service will take place on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the West Townshend Seventh-Day Adventist Church with Mr. Harris’ son, Mark Harris, officiating, Burial will take place in Oakland cemetery in Springfield at a later date
Friends may call at the Davis Memorial Chapel on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Arvid B. Carlson
MANCHESTER CENTER — Arvid Bruce Carlson, a resident of Manchester and Hilton Head, S.C., died while vacationing in Mexico on Jan. 24, 2003.
The funeral service is pending with the Brewster Funeral Service in Manchester Center.
Margaret Ann Stanchfield
GOSHEN — Margaret Ann “Peg” Stanchfield, 61, died Jan. 25, 2003, at her home in Goshen.
She was born in Manchester, Conn., on July 31, 1941, the daughter of William and Anna Karvelis. She was a 1959 graduate of Manchester High School.
She married
Edwin Stanchfield on May 21, 1983 in Tampa, Fla.
She had worked as an executive secretary for Walkins Furniture in Manchester for more than 17 years.
She had been a resident of Goshen since 1985, moving from Tampa, Fla.
She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, cooking and her flower garden.
Survivors include her husband of Goshen; her mother, Anna Karvelis of Ellington, Conn.; a son, Dean Stanchfield of Ludlow; a daughter, Donna Fisher of Storrs, Conn.; six grandsons; and several nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by a brother, William Karvelis Jr.
A private graveside committal service and burial will take place at a later date in the Goshen Community cemetery.
Friends may call at the family home at 184 Hayes Road in Goshen on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m.

Mary Elizabeth Rielley
Mary Elizabeth (Fox) Rielley, 85, of 420 Bay Avenue, Clearwater, Florida, died after a short illness on December 30, 2002.
She was born in Whitehall, N.Y., on August 27, 1917, the daughter of Charles and Margaret (Greenough) Fox. She married
George Sutherland Rielley at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria, Virginia, on July 12, 1942.
Mrs. Rielley grew up in Rutland, Vermont, and attended Mt. St. Joseph Academy. She moved to Washington, D.C., in 1940 where she was in the employ of the federal government for 28 years, working first for the Washington Navy Yard during World War II. In 1943, Mary went to the Census Bureau where she worked until 1948 at which time her employment transferred to the Naval Ordinance Lab. In 1952, her federal employment took her to the Office of Price Stabilization; and, finally, in 1956, Mary was transferred to the CIA. While at CIA, she received a major award, which, at the time, was one of only five given by the CIA. She received the award for developing a logistics system which is still in use internationally by the Agency. Mrs. Rielley retired from CIA on September 16, 1968.
Mrs. Rielley was very active in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Moose and became President of the College Park Moose after having served in many different positions in the Lodge. She never tired of her many charitable activities including, lastly, delivering for Meals on Wheels and acting as a volunteer driver taking neighbors to the doctors, to dialysis, shopping, etc.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, George on January 11, 1981; and a sister, Rita (Fox) Rizzico on December 23, 1980.
Surviving family include a brother, John Fox and his wife Mary of Forest Dale, Vermont; a sister, June Parker and her husband Walter of Clearwater, Florida; a brother, Wayne Fox and his wife Elizabeth of Westport, N.Y.; a sister, Theresa Cummings of Ashland, Massachusetts; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Rielley was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She was a special lady.
A private memorial service will be held at a later time.

Genevieve Bioty Jarosz
Genevieve (Jean) Bioty Jarosz, 85, of Boca Raton, Florida, and formerly of Ontario St. Cohoes, died January 18, 2003, at the Boca Raton Community Hospital in Florida. Born and educated in West Rutland, Vt., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Theofila Bioty and wife of the late Edward Jarosz Sr.
Jean owned and operated the Golden Krust Bakery in Cohoes with her husband, Ed, for many years, retiring 25 years ago and relocating to Boca Raton, Fla. She was a member of St. Michael’s Church in Cohoes and also a member of the Ladies Rosary Society. Jean was a member of the Slovenian Society in Boca Raton.
Mrs. Jarosz is survived by her loving son, Edward J. Jarosz and his wife, Donna, of Clifton Park, her sisters, Frances Sienkiewicz of Proctor, Vt., and Celestine Wrobel of Cohoes, seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, John J. Jarosz, her sisters, Clara Croghan, Stella Eaton, Alice Bioty, Mary Orlyk, Helen Smyrski, and her brothers, Marian, John, Maxmillion and Joseph Bioty.
Funeral Services are private and at the convenience of the family.
The Rev. Irving E. French
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — The Rev. Irving E. French, 90, formerly of Rutland, Vt., died Jan. 26, 2003, at Saratoga Hospital.
He was born March 26, 1912, in Lynn, Mass., the son of Frank and Effie (Batcheller) French.
He graduated from Henry Woods High School in 1929 and Northeastern University in 1936.
He married
Ruth Miller on June 8, 1940, and they lived in Rahway, N.J. She died in 1996.
While living in Rahway, he was active in the Trinity United Methodist Church, and received a local preacher’s license in 1937. In 1966 he graduated from Boston University of Theology.
He was an analytical chemist with Merck & Company Inc., and became chief of the analytical chemical testing section of the quality control division, retiring in 1967. The Rev. French then became co-pastor of United Methodist Parish in Lyndonville, Vt. In 1968, he was transferred to the yoked churches, Mendon (Vt.) United Methodist Community and West Rutland (Vt.) United, and in 1976 became assistant pastor of Grace Congregational United Church of Christ in Rutland.
He volunteered and continued his pastoral duties at Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs until 2003.
Survivors include a son, David French of Clifton Park; two daughters, Janet Picard and Nancy Smith, both of Plano, Texas; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The memorial service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Embury Commons in Saratoga Springs with the Rev. William Lasher officiating.
Another service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Grace Congregational United Church of Christ in Rutland with the Rev. Robert Curry, pastor, officiating. Following the service, the family will receive friends in the church parlor. Burial will take place at a later date in Evergreen cemetery in Rutland.

Chester T. Sharon
WELLS — Chester T. Sharon, 98, of Wells and Oak Island, N.C., died Jan. 25, 2003, in North Carolina.
Funeral services are pending at the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.
Mark T. Cameron
WALPOLE, N.H. — The funeral Mass for Mark T. Cameron, 43, who died Jan. 24, 2003, was celebrated Monday at St. Peter’s Church with the Rev. Andre Houle, pastor, officiating.
Organist was John Riddle and soloist was Elise Cassarino.
Bearers were John Cameron, Roger Louiselle, Richard Anderson, Richard Guerriero, Gerald Neiman and Daniel Tully.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home.
Herman L. Butron Rites
PITTSFORD — The funeral Mass for Herman L. Butron, 95, who died Jan. 24, 2003, was celebrated Monday at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Pittsford with the Rev. William Morgan, pastor of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Proctor, officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Alphonsus cemetery in Pittsford.
Organist was Stu James.
Bearers were John Murphy, Mark Blaum, Peter Freeborn and David Barnard.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford.
Dan Clifford Harvie
LUDLOW — Dan Clifford Harvie, 45, died Sunday, January 26, 2003, at his home in Ludlow. He was born on October 17, 1957, in Quincy, Mass., the son of Fred and Jean (Giddings) Harvie.
He was a former resident of Hingham, Mass., and attended Hingham High School until 1975. He then moved to Pittsford and graduated from Otter Valley Union High School in 1976. He attended Castleton State College and graduated in 1980 with a B.S. degree in Criminal Justice. He then served with the Brandon, Ludlow and Bellows Falls Police Departments. He became Chief of Police in Ludlow in 1987 and served there until 1991, when he was forced to resign due to heart disease.
He owned Iron Masters Gym in Proctorsville and then in Ludlow for many years.
He loved football, soccer and many other sports and won many weight lifting competitions.
He is survived by his parents, Fred and Jean Harvie of Pittsford; a son, Curtis Clifford Harvie of Proctorsville; a daughter, Reneé Lee Harvie of Proctorsville; a brother, Mark R. Harvie of South Burlington; two sisters, Lethea and her husband, Roy Pollard, of E. Weymouth, Mass., and Linda and her husband, Bill Drummond, of Pittsford; his former wife, Janet (Adams) Harvie of Proctorsville; a good friend, Brenda Boylan of Springfield, Vt.; his great aunt, Lethea Carlson of Poultney; four nephews, David Ware, Craig Drummond and Collin and Tristan Harvie; five nieces, Michelle Ware, Laura and Emily Drummond, Brynn and Shea Harvie; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2003, at 3 p.m. at the Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
Burial will take place at a later date in Evergreen cemetery in Pittsford.
