Esther M. Perkins

The funeral service for Esther M. Perkins, 81, of Rutland, who died Dec. 24, 2002, will be held today at 9 p.m. at the Aldous Funeral Home.

Burial will take place at a later date in Evergreen cemetery in Rutland.

Friends may call today from 7 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Vermont Memorial Processing Center, P.O. Box 31160, Hartford, Conn., 06150-1160.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Aldous Funeral Home in Rutland.

George L. Minshull

FAIRLEE — George L. Minshull, 84, died Dec. 19, 2002, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

He was born March 20, 1918, in Newbury, the son of John and Margaret (Telford) Minshull. He attended schools in Newbury.

He married Janet Carr on Oct. 29, 1938, in Newbury. She died in 2000.

Mr. Minshull worked as a farmer, as a track foreman for Boston and Maine Railroad for 10 years, and as a self-taught carpenter. He was responsible for building and maintenance at the Norwich Inn, Montpelier Tavern, Bonnie Oakes and Lake Morey Inn for 20 years.

Survivors include three daughters, Nancy Underhill of Lancaster, N.H., Marion Ransom of Barrington, N.H., and Diana Stoddard of North Haverhill, N.H.; a son, George Minshull of Ryegate; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a granddaughter and a great-grandson.

There will be no funeral service. Burial will take place at a later date in Fairlee Village cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hale Funeral Homes of Thetford and Bradford.

Roger W. McGrail

WILDER — Roger William McGrail, 75, died Dec. 25, 2002, at Genesis Eldercare Lebanon Center in Lebanon, N.H.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction.

Ruth B. English

WOODSTOCK — Ruth Berry English, 90, died Dec. 25, 2002, at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

She was born April 16, 1912, in St. Johnsbury, the daughter of Charles and Clara (Nixon) Berry.

She graduated from Windsor High School in 1931.

She married Elmer English in April 1934. He died in 1957.

Mrs. English worked as a bookkeeper for F.H. Gillingham and Sons and later for the Woodstock Pharmacy for many years.

She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Woodstock and the Ascutney Chapter OES.

Survivors include a son, Charles English of Taftsville; two grandsons, three step grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church in Woodstock with the Rev. Christina Brannock-Warner officiating. Burial will take place in Riverside cemetery in Woodstock at a later date.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. James Episcopal Church, the Green, Woodstock, 05091, or the Woodstock Visiting Nurses, 32 Pleasant St., Woodstock, 05091.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock.

William A. Slade

WINHALL — William Albert Slade, 85, died Dec. 26, 2002, at his home.

He was born April 16, 1917, in Manchester, the son of Albert and Jessie (Beattie) Slade.

He married Eva Holton on Aug. 31, 1949, in Bondville. She died in 2001.

He worked as a logger, a mechanic for Manchester Wood and later as a gas station attendant.

Mr. Slade enjoyed deer hunting and fishing.

Survivors include five sons, Ronald Slade of Dorset, Lloyd Slade and Steven Slade, both of Manchester, Richard Holton of Schenectady, N.Y., and Jerry Stevens of Bondville; five daughters, Brenda Hewes of West Pawlet, Pat Grant and Linda DeLong, both of Manchester, Judy Bogart of Hampton, N.Y., and Cindy Slade of Bondville; and a sister, Marion Bourn of Rutland.

He was predeceased by two sons, Roger Slade and David Slade.

The graveside service will take place at a later date in Middletown cemetery in Winhall.

There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are under the direction of the White Funeral Home in Townshend.

Bela Danville

SHAFTSBURY — Bela Danville, 71, a former resident of Hazlet, N.J., died Dec. 21, 2002.

He was born Jan. 30, 1931, in Dusseldorf, Germany, the son of Eugene and Hildegard (Ingerfeld) Danville.

He received his education in New York City.

He married Florence Miles on June 15, 1952.

Mr. Danville worked as manager of the graphics services department at Pace University in New York City, retiring in 1989, and moving to Shaftsbury.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving during the Korean War.

He enjoyed woodworking, vegetable gardening, cooking and classical musical. He was an avid reader of mysteries and history.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Andrew Danville of Port Monmouth, N.J., and Eric Danville of New York City; a daughter, Arlene Danville of Bennington; and four grandchildren.

Services will be private, and there will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the National Organization for Rare Disorders or the Second Chance Animal Center, in care of E.P. Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, 05201.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington.

Ruth F. Tripp

BENNINGTON — Ruth R. Tripp, 86, died Dec. 24, 2002, at Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington.

She was born Feb. 26, 1916, in Cavendish, the daughter of Fred and Florence (Burdick) Wilkins.

She graduated from the former Bennington High School.

Mrs. Tripp worked at Woolworth’s in Bennington and later at W.T. Grant store in Bennington, retiring as manager.

She was a member and past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary and American Legion Post 13 Auxiliary in Bennington. She also had held several state offices in the Eagles Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband, Earl Tripp of Bennington; a daughter, Beverly Young of Geneva, N.Y.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Forrest of Bennington; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by two sons, Donald Peacock and Earl Peacock.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in All Faiths Chapel at Vermont Veterans Home with the Rev. John Foster, chaplain, officiating. Interment will take place in Park Lawn Chapel with burial in Woodlands cemetery in Cambridge, N.Y., at a later date.

Friends may call Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the Vermont Veterans Home.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary, through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, 05201.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington.

Mary S. Moyer

LAKEPORT, N.H. — Mary S. Moyer, 71, died Dec. 25, 2002, at her residence.

She was born Aug. 30, 1931, in Ludlow, Vt., the daughter of Fred and Lora (Manley) Snow.

She worked in human resources for the state of New Hampshire at Laconia Developmental Service for 20 years, retiring in 1996.

She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Lakes parish.

Mrs. Moyer enjoyed traveling with her husband.

Survivors include her husband of 46 years, John Moyer; four sons, Matthew Moyer of New Hampshire, Gregory Moyer of Gilford, Michael Moyer of Belmont and Randall Moyer of Port Arthur, Texas; three daughters, Michele Horner of Richmond, Sandra O’Riordan and Nicole Murray, both of Laconia; a sister, Irene Merrill of Rutland, Vt.; 13 grandchildren and a great-grandson; nieces and nephews.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lakes Church in Lakeport. Burial will take place in Sacred Heart cemetery at a later date.

Calling hours will be held Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Simoneau & Lambert Funeral Home in Laconia.

Memorial contributions may be made to Community Health & Hospice, 780 North Main St., Laconia, 03246, or the Lakes Region Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 7312, Gilford, 03247-7312.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Simoneau & Lambert Funeral Home in Laconia.

Donald Newton

NISKAYUNA, N.Y. — Donald Newton, 85, died Dec. 25, 2002, at Northwoods Rehabilitation in Niskayuna.

The funeral service will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington.

Friends may call Sunday from noon until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Hazel C. Hazelton Rites

BRATTLEBORO — The funeral service for Hazel C. Hazelton, 102, who died Dec. 23, 2002, was held Thursday at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home in Brattleboro.

The Rev. William Warriner, pastor of Dummerston Center Congregational Church, officiated. Burial will take place at a later date in Dummerston Center cemetery.

A reception was held at the home of Philip and Betty Bolster in Dummerston following the service.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Atamaniuk Funeral Home in Brattleboro.
